Guess what my newest hyper-fixation is XD
And before anyone says anything: yes, this story was inspired by the fic "Amelia Smith: 9th Grade Kunoichi" by Angelxoxo8. I actually got into RC9GN thanks to that fic. I'm going to try to make mine as different as possible from hers
Chapter 1: Last Stall on the Left
For 800 years, Norrisville High has been protected by a Ninja and a Kunoichi. No one knows that, every four years, two new warriors are chosen. A pair of freshmen to fight the forces of evil.
We are the Ninja and the Kunoichi. We are Randy Cunningham and Jade Nagisa.
Smoke Bomb!
OoOoOoO
"Welcome, freshman," Mr. Bannister, the English teacher, said right as the school bell finished ringing. "I'm sure you're bummed to be back in school." His face twisted into a grimace. "Well, so am I!" he yelled into the face of a student, hard enough to send him literally flying out of his seat. Mr. Bannister got behind his desk, sitting down as he orders, "Five-hundred words! What you did on your summer vacation!" He slams his fist on his desk, making everything in the classroom shake for a moment.
The students all took that as their cue to start writing. In the third row were three particular students. One of them was a slim boy with dark purple hair and sapphire-blue eyes. On one side of him sat a short, chubby boy with orange hair and brown eyes. And on his other side was a girl with reddish-brown hair and brown eyes.
Name: Randy Cunningham, the purple-haired boy narrated in his head as he wrote on his paper. Grade: 9. Title: What I did on my summer—
"Cunningham!" the orange-haired boy suddenly popped up in front of him. "Let me copy off ya."
"Howard, we can't turn in the exact same essay," Randy said with a smile.
"But we had the exact same summer," Howard argued. Before either of them could say anything else, a shoe suddenly hit the back of Howard's head. They both looked towards the front of the room, seeing Mr. Bannister sitting with his feet on the desk and one shoe missing.
"No talking!" he snapped.
Howard rubbed his head with a grimace as the auburn-haired girl laughed softly. Randy looked at her with an amused smile for a moment, then returned to his essay, tapping the eraser of his pencil to his bottom lip.
Well…it wasn't the exact same…
OoOoOoO
"I mean, it started out the same."
Randy, Howard, and the auburn-haired girl, Jade, all ran into the purple-haired boy's room. He ripped open a copy of Grave Puncher, tossing aside the instructions and putting in the disc. The three friends sat on the floor side-by-side with Randy in the middle, big smiles on their faces as they quickly started mashing the buttons on their controllers.
A week later, Randy ripped open a copy of Grave Puncher II: Punchocalypse, once again carelessly tossing the instructions in favor of getting the disc in as quickly as he can. This time, the trio stared at the screen with wide eyes and open mouths, all the while mashing buttons.
And a week after that, Randy ripped open his body of Grave Puncher 3: Live and Let Punch, repeating what he did the previous two times with the instructions and the disc respectively. And despite their obvious exhaustion, the three don't dare take their eyes off the screen.
"But then a week ago, something epic happened."
"Congratulations," a voice said as the victory message appeared on the screen. "You have punched all the graves."
Randy and Howard performed their handshake in celebration. And as soon as they were done, Jade quickly got between them and threw her arms around both of them, pulling them into a hug, all three of them grinning.
"And then the day after that, something even epic-er happened."
Randy and Jade are in the latter's house. Both of them are sitting on the living room couch. Jade is playing something on a handheld gaming console, with Randy watching excitedly over her shoulder. The sound of a door opening reaches their ears, and they both look up to see a woman entering the living room, closing the door behind her. The woman is of Japanese descent, with black hair pulled into an elegant bun, sharp black eyes, and wearing a black kimono with a pink obi.
Randy and Jade immediately stand up, with the latter placing her gaming console on the coffee table. A second after she does so, the little character on her screen gets blasted, and the words 'GAME OVER' appear. Jade frowns for a moment, but straightens up as the woman, Nanami, walks past the two teens.
Nanami closes the curtains of the living room window. Then she walked over to the chimney fireplace, which was currently out, crouching down and reaching inside to press one of the bricks. A click filled the air, and Nanami stood up and turned around. She walked towards a hallway, and Randy and Jade took that as their cue to follow her.
The hallway led to the dining room (separated from the kitchen by a breakfast bar). Nanami walked up to one of the room's walls, which had a large vertical oil painting of a Sakura tree. She placed one hand on the frame of the painting, while she used the other hand to count down with her fingers. Three…two…one…
A metallic snick filled the air, and Nanami pulled open the painting like a door, revealing a stairwell behind it. Nanami climbed inside, and Randy and Jade followed her in. The painting-door closed behind them with another snick.
Jade and Randy followed Nanami down a few flights of stairs…
"See, my friend Jade and I have known each other since we were kids."
…And into a large room with a large carpet and a large overhead light. There were four mats on the floor, and some lit candles neatly arranged around them.
There was a Japanese man sitting on one of the mats. He had black hair and calm black eyes, glasses on his face, and wearing a black kimono with a red obi.
And in front of the man was a wooden box with a golden circle and a matching 9 on top.
"And ever since we were kids, whenever I come over, Jade's parents have had us play these games. Games like 'who can swim across the lake and back again the fastest?' and 'hide and seek in the woods' and 'see who can climb a steep hill with a backpack full of rocks first'. And they even let me practice gymnastics and play sword-fighting with Jade a few times. All in good fun. But they said we couldn't tell anyone about these games."
Nanami sat on the mat next to the man, Masaki, while Jade and Randy sat on the two mats across from them. Nanami and Masaki exchanged a quick glance, then looked back at the two teens, who were waiting for something to happen. Masaki opened the box, revealing a black and reddish-pink book inside with a note attached to it.
And on the note were the words 'The NinjaNomicon'.
Nanami took the book out, placing it on her lap. And underneath the book, two items were revealed. Jade and Randy looked inside. One of the items was a plain, thin gray digital watch with a red button on one side. The other looked like a black hair tie with a single pink strawberry pin on it.
And sitting between those two items was another note.
A note with the words, 'You are the Ninja and the Kunoichi'.
Jade gasped and covered her mouth with both hands, while Randy grabbed the watch and cheered as he stood up, "Oh my sweet!" he turned to Jade with a grin. "We have to tell Howard!"
A loud "Ahem!" drew their attention to Masaki and Nanami, who were glaring at them, sending chills down the teens' spines. Without breaking eye contact, Masaki reached in the box and flipped the note over, revealing more words on the back.
'You can't tell anyone!'
"Aww, that's wonk!" Randy complained. Jade grabbed the hair tie, examining the strawberry pin for a moment. The teens glanced at each other, then at Nanami and Masaki, who both nodded once in unison.
Jade stood up. Randy put the watch on his left wrist, while Jade pulled her hair into a bun using the hair tie. And at the same time, Randy pressed the red button on the watch, while Jade pressed the strawberry pin like a button.
And within seconds, with red and pink glows, their bodies were covered in their new suits. Randy's Ninja Suit was black and red, while Jade's Kunoichi Suit was black and pink. Jade's Suit had a few differences from Randy's including the pink paint over her eyes and the hood.
"Listen, I don't know how it works—I think Jade's parents said they're some kind of 'quantum devices'—but these Suits are the straight-up cheese!"
Later that night, the new Ninja and Kunoichi could be seen running through the woods, leaping over tall rocks and kicking branches off of trees. The two eventually come to a clearing and high-five each other. And from a nearby cliff, Masaki and Nanami both observe them from above with small smiles.
The Ninja and the Kunoichi stand side-by-side, looking into the distance as their scarves flow in the wind.
"I am Randy Cunningham. I am the Ninja."
OoOoOoO
'It's pretty much the coolest thing ever,' Randy continued writing. That same gray watch is on his left wrist, hidden by his hoodie sleeve. He paused his writing to look over at Jade, who had finished up her own essay and was now doodling on the paper. The strawberry hair tie was around her left wrist like a bracelet. 'Plus, my partner is one of my best friends, which is so Bruce. Only bummer is, we can't tell anyone. Not even our other friends.'
Randy frowned and looked over at Howard, who is scratching his armpit with his pencil and then sniffing it.
"Pencils down!" Mr. Bannister shouted. He started grabbing papers from the students.
Randy gritted his teeth, staring at his paper with wide eyes. And now I'm realizing this probably wasn't the best topic for my essay.
Right as Mr. Bannister got to his desk, Randy rapidly shredded his paper into several pieces and dropped it into the teacher's waiting hand with a grin. Mr. Bannister looked at the pile, then at Randy. "What's this supposed to be?"
"Uh, my commentary on the fleeting nature of summer?" Randy said, giving the teacher a nervous grin.
Mr. Bannister hummed for a moment as he looked back at the pile. "Excellent use of metaphor!"
"Aced it!" Randy cheered, pumping his fists.
"I'll give you a B," Mr. Bannister corrected, walking past Randy and Howard's desks.
"B-ced it!" Randy cheered, throwing his arms up into the air this time. Jade laughed into her hand, and Randy smiled at her again.
OoOoOoO
"Go away, Bash!" Bucky yelled, running in the hall past Randy, Jade and Howard as they opened the door and exited the classroom. "I don't want a wedgie!"
"I already gave you a wedgie!" Bash Johnson, the resident bully, announced, twirling a torn piece of underwear around his finger. The three freshmen instinctively flinched away from him. "I just wanna give you your change!"
Once Bash ran off, Randy, Howard and Jade all turned and walked down the hallway side-by-side.
"Can we talk about this Ninja and Kunoichi situation?" Howard asked, oblivious to Randy suddenly tensing up and Jade's eyes widening.
The two quickly glanced at each other, then Randy said nervously, "Uh, Ninja and Kunoichi situation? There is no Ninja and Kunoichi situation!"
"Exactly!" Howard said. "The 'No Ninja and Kunoichi' situation. We've been in Norrisville High for two days, and we haven't seen either of them once!"
"I mean…" Jade started to say, looking everywhere but at Howard. "Don't they have to wait for, like…a monster attack…o-or a robot, or something?"
"Why aren't you guys madder?" Howard practically snapped. "We are their number one fans!"
"I mean, it's not like they can just smoke bomb on by for a meet n' greet," Randy commented. Then, he paused and smirked. "Or…can they?" he asked quietly to himself.
"Hey, Jade!"
The feminine voice made Randy look back up, seeing a familiar girl with violet hair and wearing the Norrisville High's Twirl Team uniform approaching the trio with a smile.
"Theresa!" Jade and Randy both exclaimed in unison, the former out of excitement and the latter out of bashfulness. Jade rushed forward to hug Theresa, while Randy's face turned a bit red.
Once the girls released the hug, Theresa turned to the purple-haired boy, and her smile turned into a bashful one. "Hey, Randy," she said softly, suddenly looking flushed as well.
"Hey," Randy greeted back with a wave, grinning like a dork. Howard smirked and side-eyed his friend.
Theresa glanced away nervously, then cleared her throat. "Good to see you," she said. She turned to Jade. "You wanna walk to class together?"
"Sure," Jade said with a smile. The two girls had math together. The auburn-haired girl waved to Randy and Howard for a moment, who waved back, before she and Theresa made their way down the hall.
Randy watched them leave with a dreamy look on his face. Howard noticed this, and waved his hand in his friend's face, snapping him back to reality. Randy chuckled and scratched the back of his neck, making Howard smirk again.
OoOoOoO
A little over an hour later, Jade was in her orchestra class, sitting in the second violin section. She was in the middle of tuning her instrument like the rest of her classmates, when a buzzing from her gray backpack, resting against her chair, drew her attention. Jade set her violin and bow on her lap and reached into her bag, pulling out her phone and realizing it was a text from Randy.
'I heard a rumor that the Ninja's gonna show up at school today. Do you think the Kunoichi will be with him?'
Jade couldn't help the playful smirk that appeared on her face, and quickly texted back.
'Are you SURE the Kunoichi will show up?'
A minute later, Randy replied.
'Come on, Jade. Aren't you curious what will happen if both the Ninja AND the Kunoichi show up?'
Jade stared at the message for a moment. "I know you're playing me right now," she said quietly, even though the sound of everyone else tuning their instruments drowned her voice out. "But you're totally right."
And with that, she sent another reply.
'So what time did you say they might show up?'
OoOoOoO
Howard finished off his lunch. Theresa sat next to him, working through her own food as well. Howard looked at his clean plate in disappointment for a moment, then glanced up at Randy's mostly full tray across from him. Jade's half-finished lunch was next to his, across from Theresa; in lieu of school lunch, Jade had a bento box that her mother made her. She also brought a bag filled with Japanese treats to share with her friends, but that bag was currently empty and sitting on the table.
Randy and Jade were both absent from the table. Howard glanced at the two bathrooms in the cafeteria. "Cunningham, Nagisa," he called out quietly, climbing onto the table to reach over. "I know you two are in the can, but if you don't want me to eat your lunches, just say so!"
Theresa reached over and yanked on the back of Howard's shirt; not hard enough to pull him back to his seat, but enough to make him stop and glare at her, which she returned.
"Smoke Bomb!"
The sudden yell of two voices was followed by two puffs of smoke—one red and one pink—appearing, drawing the students' attention. When the smoke cleared, two familiar figures were standing on the table back-to-back.
"Hello, students!" Ninja yelled out, throwing his arms up, while Kunoichi had her arms crossed. "It's us! The Ninja!"
"And the Kunoichi!" his partner exclaimed, throwing her arms up as well.
The students around them started shouting in excitement. "Yes! Finally! Ninja and Kuno!" Howard turned to the bathroom doors again. "Hey, Cunningham! Nagisa! Cork it, would ya? The Ninja and Kunoichi just showed up!"
OoOoOoO
So far, things have been going well.
Ninja and Kunoichi were having fun, jumping around the cafeteria and entertaining the students. Kunoichi found herself laughing alongside her peers, glad she let Ninja talk her into this.
"Now, as ninjas," Ninja said, both of them on two different tables now. "We must be prepared at any moment to do this!" he punched the air, then glanced at Kunoichi, who got the silent cue.
"And this!" she exclaimed, kicking the air.
"And how could we forget this?" Ninja exclaimed as he and Kunoichi both flipped off their respective tables. Ninja landed back on the table they originally appeared on, and caught Kunoichi, holding her up in the air by her back like an ice skater, complete with Kunoichi kicking up one leg. The crowd of students around them erupted into cheers.
Ninja set Kunoichi down on her feet next to him. "Well, you've been great, everybody," Ninja said, Kunoichi crossing her arms again. "See you next time! Remember to tip those lunch ladies!"
Kunoichi uncrossed her arms, and the two of them looked over and nodded at each other as they both reached into their sashes. They both yelled in unison, "Smoke Bo—"
"No, wait! Ninja! Kunoichi!" their departure was interrupted by Howard lunging forward and grabbing onto their legs. "My buddies and I have been dying to meet you since we were kids! Please, just, hang on until they get back?"
"Aww," Kunoichi said, sounding touched.
"That's really cool of you," Ninja said in a similar tone, then straightened up and continued in a deep, heroic-sounding voice, "But we can't! We must go!"
And as if on cue, one of the walls suddenly exploded outwards. Ninja and Kunoichi both turned to see a monster emerging from the hole it created with a roar. A monster that was a rather disturbing amalgamation of man, machinery, and different animals, complete with six arms, and had an X-shaped scar on his chest.
The students screamed as they ran for their lives, and the monster didn't hesitate to start destroying the cafeteria, slapping things around and throwing tables into the air.
"Our first monster fight," Ninja said, just loud enough for Kunoichi, who was staring at the creature with wide eyes, to hear. "So honkin' cool!" Then in a louder voice, he exclaimed, "Ninja Flip!"
He flipped off the table, spinning through the air, and landing several feet in front of the creature. "Monster," he said, pointing to the creature before him. "Get ready to get—"
He didn't get to finished, as the monster punched him with his middle right arm, sending Ninja flying through the wall behind him.
"Ninja!" Kunoichi yelled, then narrowed her eyes into a glare at the creature. "Kuno Kick!" she sprung off the table and flipped herself over to aim a kick at the monster…only for two of his hands to grab her by the leg once she was close enough, with her letting out a surprised grunt before being held upside down by her leg. She made eye contact with the monster, who glared at her. "Oh no…"
With a growl, the monster rapidly turned himself around over and over again, still holding Kunoichi by her leg and spinning her with him. She yelled in oscillation for a few seconds, before the monster finally let go and stopped turning, causing Kunoichi to go soaring through the air and crashing into the same hole Ninja made.
Howard and Theresa both cringed as they watched this, and the former pulled out his phone. "Cunningham, Nagisa, get back here," he said out loud as he texted Randy first. "The Ninjas are totally getting p'wnd."
Ninja had gone through a few more walls before finally crashing into a locker and falling to the floor. A small ringing filled the air, and Ninja pulled out his phone. "I wouldn't say we're getting p'wnd," he commented, before Kunoichi suddenly crashed into him, making both of them grunt as Ninja drops his phone.
The sound of approaching footsteps made the duo open their eyes and look up to see the monster burst through the hole in the wall with a roar. Ninja and Kunoichi glanced at each other, then narrowed their eyes at the monster. They jumped up and kicked the monster in the face together, causing him to fall onto his back.
But alas, the monster quick stood back up as Ninja and Kunoichi landed on their feet. He turned towards them with a growl.
"Uh-oh…" Ninja said as Kunoichi's eyes widened again. Neither had time to run away before the monster punched both of them in the face, sending them through the wall and down a flight of stairs this time.
Ninja groaned as the two of them finally stopped at the bottom of the steps, laying in a heap on the floor. A buzzing noise filled the air, and Kunoichi pulled her phone out this time. "Aww, man," she groaned. "We are getting p'wnd."
The monster burst through the hole at the top of the stairs. "Ninja Sprint!" Ninja exclaimed, grabbing Kunoichi's arm and running off with her before the monster could stomp on either of them.
The duo ran into the nearest room, the boys' bathroom, and jumped into the last stall on the left right before the monster destroyed the door. The monster punched open each of the stall doors one-by-one, until he finally got to the last one, revealing the Ninja crouching on top of the toilet seat, with Kunoichi clinging to his back like a koala.
They up stared at the monster in silence for a moment. Then Ninja broke the silence with, "We weren't hiding from you, if that's what you think."
The monster roared and ran into the stall, the door slamming shut behind him. A fight quickly broke out, with Ninja and Kunoichi struggling to get out, only to keep getting yanked back in. Until finally Ninja managed to slip out from underneath the door, falling back on his rear with a groan. He looked up as Kunoichi tried to climb over the top of the door again, and jumped up and grabbed her hands to pull her out before she could get dragged back. He succeeded, though Kunoichi fell on top of him, causing them both to collapse to the floor again.
The school bell rang just as the duo sat up. "Now what?" Kunoichi asked, pushing her pink scarf out of her face. Ninja looked down and spotted a lead pipe on the ground, seizing it and thrusting it into the handles of the third and last stalls, trapping the monster inside.
Ninja and Kunoichi both stood up as the monster roared, thankfully unable to escape his prison. They turned to each other. "That could've gone better," Kunoichi groaned dryly.
"Heh," Ninja chuckled weakly.
OoOoOoO
The door open, and Randy and Jade both ran into their history class. Randy skidded into a wall with a yell, causing a few books to go flying, and Jade nearly tripped over herself trying to get to her desk, both of them panting as they finally made it into their respective seats, with Jade sitting in front of Howard.
"Where have you two been?" Howard, who was sitting on Randy's right, asked indignantly, glancing between his two friends as Jade hurriedly dug her history textbook out of her backpack. "We were supposed to meet the Ninja and the Kunoichi together! Man, but between you and me, they were kind of stinkin' it up out there."
Jade bit her bottom lip, while Randy looked annoyed. "Come on, Howard," he said. "We—ah, the Ninja and Kunoichi were trying their best, okay? It's not like there are instructions for being the Ninjas." Both his and Jade's eyes widened in realization. "The instructions." Randy stood up from his desk. "I need. To use. The bathroom!"
Randy hurried out of the room. The students stared after him, but quickly returned to their own textbooks. Jade's gaze remained on the closed door for a moment longer. Her parents had agreed to let Randy keep the Nomicon at his house, and she could only hope he found what they needed to deal with that monster.
The rest of the class was rather uneventful, with the teacher going over one chapter and then handing out worksheets for homework. Jade closed her textbook and put both that and her worksheet in her backpack. As she did so, she caught sight of a familiar book in her backpack. She blinked as a strange feeling hit her, and without a second thought, she pulled the book out, revealing to be a brown leather-bound copy of the Holy Bible.
Jade placed it on her desk and opened it up, flipping through the pages. She wasn't sure what exactly she was looking for; she just knew that she was looking for…something. She finally stopped on one particular page as that same feeling struck her again, and again the moment her eyes landed on a particular verse.
"No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from Me, declares the Lord."
There was something about that verse that just seemed to jump off the page at her. And she couldn't help but feel this…unexplainable peace as she read it.
OoOoOoO
"Hey, Howard," Jade said as she pulled her science textbook out of her locker, replacing her history textbook with it. "After school gets out, you and Randy wanna head to my mom's dine—?" she cut herself off after closing her locker and realizing that Howard was no longer standing next to her. Jade blinked in surprise. "Howard?" she looked around her, but couldn't find the orange-haired boy anywhere in the hallway. "Howard?"
The sound of the wall exploding nearby made her turn to see the same monster from before was now in the hallway, roaring furiously as students ran away screaming. "Oh boy…" she said quietly, running into the girl's bathroom as she hurriedly pulled her hair into a bun with the hair tie. A pink light briefly glowed behind the closed door.
"Smoke Bomb!"
And with a puff of pink smoke, Kunoichi was standing in front of the monster. Howard peeked through the hole that the monster had made, grinning like a dork. "Yes!" he pumped his fist. "It worked! Cunningham and Nagisa can't miss 'em this time! Now where the heck is the Ninja?"
Kunoichi got into a fighting stance, her eyes never leaving the monster. "I can do this," she told herself. "Just…keep him busy until Ra—er, Ninja gets back. Oh, please tell me he found something useful."
The monster roared again. "Kuno Kick!" she yelled as she ran up and delivered an uppercutting kick to the monster's jaw, a metallic clang filling the air as the monster stumbled back a bit, while Kunoichi flipped back and landed on her feet. She winced, trying not to put weight on the foot that just kicked him. "Okay," she gritted her teeth. "Not my smartest move."
The monster regained himself and growled, roaring again as he ran up and swiped at Kunoichi. She backflipped in time to avoid the bear claws, but the lockers to her right were destroyed in the process. Kunoichi landed on her feet again. "He's gonna wreck the whole school at this point," she said. "And it took both of us to just subdue him…" She straightened herself up, waving her arms around. "Hey, ugly!" she yelled at the monster. "This way!"
The monster roared and charged at Kunoichi, who turned and sprinted down the hallway with the creature right on her tail. "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!" Kunoichi repeated to herself as she led the monster around a corner, which he crashed into before continuing his chase, and eventually to a pair of double doors with an exit sign above it.
Kunoichi shoved one of the doors open, and barely got down the steps before both doors flew off their hinges, landing on the grassy lawn. Kunoichi turned around, backing up as the monster made his way down the steps.
"Ninja," Kunoichi said through gritted teeth, keeping her eyes on the monster. "Get here now!"
OoOoOoO
"Sorry, Howard, but I have to, um—"
"No!" Howard jumped onto Randy, wrapping his arms and legs around his friend. "No! You are going to stick around for this! It's bad enough that Nagisa is nowhere to be seen!" Randy shrugged sheepishly at the other students walking past them. "Yeah, turns out the Ninjas couldn't beat that monster, so they locked it in a basement stall. So I let it out."
"You did WHAT?" Randy exclaimed.
"Yeah," Howard said. "Kunoichi's already dealing with it. And wherever the Kunoichi is, you know the Ninja's not far behind! They'll both be here to deal with it, and once we find Nagisa, we can see them in action together!"
Before Randy could respond, some suddenly crashed through the wall. That 'something' was revealed to be the front half of Principal Slimovitz's car. The crash opened a large hole in the wall, which Randy and Howard both looked through to see Kunoichi dodging another one of the monster's attacks in the parking lot.
"You wanna thank me now, or later?" Howard asked Randy. "I dunno, how should we do this?"
The monster roared again as he grabbed the back half of Slimovitz's car and flung it at Kunoichi. She jumped out of the way in time to avoid it, causing the car to crash into another part of the school.
"MY CAR!" Slimovitz yelled.
Randy and Howard made their way outside, debris crashing on the ground around them. "Ninja action," Howard said. "Courtesy of moi. Who's the best friend ever?" He turned and leapt up to chest-bump Randy…who wasn't there anymore. "Huh? Are you kidding me?!"
Kunoichi backflipped as she avoided the monster's attack again, landing several feet back.
"Smoke Bomb!" the yell was accompanied by a puff of red smoke, and Ninja was standing next to Kunoichi, who looked relieved.
"Ninja! Kuno!" The students, who had gathered around to watch the fight, cheered. "Ninja! Kuno! Ninja! Kuno!" The monster threw his head back with a growl.
"What did the Nomicon say?" Kunoichi asked Ninja, both of them taking up fighting stances.
"Believe in the weapons that are in the Suits," Ninja answered.
"Weapons?" Kunoichi echoed with a raised brow.
"Yeah," Ninja answered, turning to her. "We're in the Suits. We're the weapons. We just have to believe in us!"
The monster growled, making them turn back to him. "Will that work?" Kunoichi asked.
"I'm sure it will," Ninja said. "I believe in us. I believe in us. I believe in us…kicking that thing's butt." He made a 'come at me' gesture to the monster, who grinned at them and slammed three fists into three palms.
Kunoichi closed her eyes. "Lord, give us strength," she whispered, and reopened her eyes.
The monster roared again before charging at them. Ninja ran forward, while Kunoichi yelled out, "Smoke Bomb!" and disappeared with a puff of pink smoke. Ninja jumped and catapulted himself off one of the monster's arms, then kicked him in the face as he descended. The monster stumbled, but didn't fall, as Ninja landed on grass behind him.
The monster turned around and started running toward Ninja. As soon as he did so, Kunoichi reappeared behind the monster with another puff of pink smoke. The monster raised a fist, ready to strike once he was close enough. "Kuno Scarf!" Kunoichi exclaimed, swinging her pink scarf like a lasso and wrapping it around one of the monster's legs, causing him to trip just as he was about to swing at Ninja.
"And Ninja Block!" Ninja cried out, delivering an uppercutting kick to the monster's outstretched fist mid-fall, causing the monster to punch himself in the face right before landing hard on his front. His metal jaw was crooked as he laid on the grass.
Kunoichi flipped over the monster, landing next to her partner. "Who's gettin' p'wned now?" Ninja taunted, high-fiving Kunoichi.
"Ninja! Kuno! Ninja! Kuno!" the students around them cheered. Ninja held up a peace sign with one hand, while Kunoichi placed her hands on her hips, both of them practically beaming under their masks.
The monster, however, had other ideas. He pulled himself up enough to fix his jaw and shake his head, then quickly stood back up as the skin around his scar suddenly peeled itself back. The duo barely had time to be surprised before an elongated, muscular arm shot out of the monster's chest. Ninja shoved Kunoichi out of the way right before the hand slammed him into the ground.
Kunoichi regained herself, her brown eyes wide. "Ninja!" she cried out. The monster tried to hit Ninja with his robotic arm, which Ninja barely missed. The monster drew the robotic arm back and raised up the arm with the boxing glove, ready to swing down again, when a pink scarf wrapped around it and stopped him. He turned to see Kunoichi struggling to keep him from striking again.
"I don't get it," Ninja said. "I'm believing! What else could be in the Suits?" He frantically searched through his Ninja Suit with both hands, and ended up pulling out a sword from behind his back. Specifically, a ninjatō with a black and red handle. "Ahh. Believe in the weapons that are in the Suits."
Ninja sliced through the arm holding him down, causing the monster to roar in pain. Ninja was freed. The hand, revealing to be robotic underneath with glowing yellow liquid pouring out, landed on the grass. Ninja jumped up into a crouch. "That makes way more sense," he said.
Kunoichi blinked in surprise. Then, overcome with curiosity, she reached behind her. Sure enough, her fingers brushed against something, and she quickly pulled it out. It was a naginata, with a black pole that had pink markings on the top and bottom. "Ooh…" she stared at it in awe for a second.
Ninja ran forward, kicking the monster in the chest hard enough to send it skidding backwards, leaving marks in the grass. The monster growled at him, glowing yellow liquids flying from his mouth like saliva.
Ninja and Kunoichi both narrowed their eyes. "Let's do this," Ninja said.
The monster charged towards Ninja. But just as he approached him, Ninja suddenly jumped high in the air, as a yell of "Smoke Bomb!" pierced the air alongside pink smoke, Kunoichi appearing where her partner had just been. Then, quicker than the eye could keep up with, Kunoichi yelled as she rapidly sliced her naginata at the monster several times as he ran past her.
The monster suddenly stopped, his expression shifting to one of shock. And one-by-one, all six of his arms fell off.
But he was still standing.
He whipped around, looking infuriated and roaring at Kunoichi.
And as if on cue, Ninja descended and swung his sword down at the monster, again too quick for anyone to see what he did. The moment Ninja landed next to Kunoichi, the monster's expression went back to shock before collapsing to his knees…and splitting it half vertically, revealing a mostly robotic body underneath, those same glowing yellow liquids spilling out now.
The crowd stares with wide eyes. One student audibly retches and runs off.
Somewhere in the crowd, the duo heard a familiar voice yell out, "NOOOOOOO…way, dudes! That was awesome!" However, neither of them could see who yelled it, due to how numerous the crowd was.
"Smoke Bomb! Smoke Bomb!" The students cheered. "Smoke Bomb! Smoke Bomb!"
"Smoke Bomb!" Ninja and Kunoichi yelled in unison, and disappeared in puffs of red and pink smoke.
OoOoOoO
Ninja and Kunoichi both reappeared on the other end of the school.
"That…was awesome…" Ninja panted, slumping against the wall.
"Totally…" Kunoichi agreed, lowering herself to sit on the grass.
They both stayed like that, allowing themselves to recover for a minute. Then, after putting their weapons away and checking to make sure the coast was clear, Ninja pulled at the red lines around his left wrist, lifting it up to reveal the watch hidden underneath the fabric. He pressed the button, and with a red glow, Randy was back in his normal clothes.
Kunoichi did the same. She pulled her hood off, then pulled back the part of the suit that covered her hairline, revealing her reddish-brown hair in a bun underneath. She pressed the strawberry pin, and with a pink glow, Jade was back in her clothes as well.
Jade stood back up as she pulled her hair out of the bun, placing the hair tie back around her left wrist again. "Y'know?" Randy said, making her turn to him. "We're not half-bad." Jade simply chuckled softly in agreement, not sure what else to say, making Randy smile.
OoOoOoO
"Wait, you're the Ninja?" Howard's expression shifted from shock to ecstasy. "My best friend's the Ninja! Oh, this is so incredible! I'm gonna tell everyone!"
"You can tell anyone," Randy—the Ninja—told him.
Howard blinked. "Not even Nagisa?" he asked.
"Er," Ninja avoided his gaze for a second. "No, not even her."
"Aww…" Howard groaned, looking miffed. Then, his eyes widened. "Wait," he grabbed Ninja by his Suit, bringing him closer. "Do you know who the Kunoichi is?"
Ninja debated answering that for a second, humming to himself and looking away, then turned back to Howard. "Yes, I do."
"Awesome!" Howard exclaimed, shaking his friend in his excitement. "Who is she?"
Ninja placed his hands over Howard's wrists to make him stop shaking him. "I can't tell you that," Ninja responded.
Howard looked annoyed again, letting go of the Suit. "Well, that stinks…" he said.
"No, Howard," Ninja said. "This stinks. Smoke Bomb!" A red puff of smoke surrounded them.
"Oh, oh man," Howard coughed. "These things smell like fart."
"You get used to it," Ninja said. "You'd be surprise, you start liking it."
OoOoOoO
"Jade!" Theresa exclaimed, running up to her friend and hugging her.
"Hey, Theresa," Jade said, returning the hug.
They released the hug. "I was so worried when I couldn't find you during that monster attack," Theresa confessed.
"Hey, it's okay," Jade reassured her with a smile. "I'm okay."
Theresa smiled back, then her smile turned to an excited grin. "Did you at least see the Ninja and Kunoichi?" she asked, sounding like a fangirl. "They were so Bruce!"
Jade giggled softly, hoping her cheeks weren't turning pink from the unintentional compliment. "Yeah," she agreed. "Ninja did really good."
"And Kunoichi!" Theresa cheered. This time, Jade actually had to look away so her friend wouldn't see her blushing. Thankfully, Theresa seemed too caught up in fangirling to notice. Then, Theresa cleared her throat and asked, "Do you think we'll see them again?"
Jade turned back, the blush gone by now. "Yeah, I guess so."
OoOoOoO
"Wait, Howard let that thing out?!" Jade exclaimed as she and Randy made their way into the dojo beneath the Nagisa household, which was currently empty.
"Yeah," Randy said. "So all three of us could see the Ninja and Kunoichi fight together."
Jade sighed softly. "That explains it," she said quietly, then cleared her throat and said a little louder, "Well, he's just gonna have to get used to us 'missing' the fights."
Jade waited for some quippy response from Randy…only to be met with silence. She turned to her friend, noticing that he suddenly looked nervous and was refusing to meet her gaze.
"Randy…" she said.
"Uh, about that…" he said, sheepishly scratching his neck. "I kinda…told Howard that I'm the Ninja?"
"You did what?"
The deathly calm voice made both of them freeze, and slowly turn to see Nanami and Masaki in the doorway. Both of them were in their work uniforms—Nanami in a light blue blouse with a long black skirt and a dark blue apron, and Masaki in a white button-up shirt and tan slacks.
To say that Nanami looked furious would be an understatement. Masaki glanced at his wife nervously, though she either didn't notice or didn't care.
"Don't worry, Mrs. Nagisa!" Randy blurted out, holding his hands up defensively. "I made Howard promise not to tell anyone! A-And don't worry, he doesn't know about Jade—"
"You told somebody…" Nanami growled out, cutting him off, "…that you're the Ninja?! You—!" she started taking one of her zori sandals off. And Randy took that as his cue to run away with a yell. "Stupid! Stupid!" she chased after him. Jade and Masaki glanced at each other with wide eyes, and both backed up into the doorway. "Hey, come here!"
