Episode 5
[(Gameplay starts) Oh! Cult! Magazine is a thing that exists in this universe.]
"And sheep magazine is a thing that exists is a thing that exists in our universe. Oh! Cult! Is much better!" one sin added.
[(You'd do anything for mystic Maya, even walk over burning coals, right?) Semi-accurate foreshadowing. He actually attempts to cross a burning bridge.]
"Okay…so Pearl was semi-correct. What's the issue?" one sin added.
(Just think: the event that sets the entire plot of this case is motion…is that Iris agreed to have her photo taken next to Bikini in an occult magazine. If that hadn't happened and Bikini was photographed alone, Pearl and Maya wouldn't have had an old enough chaperone and therefore couldn't go Hazakura, thereby ensuring both Morgan's and Godot's plans never came to fruition. That's some crazy ass coincidence right there.)
"Do you know what is also a crazy ass coincidence? That you are here writing this. The reason you exist is because your parents happened to be at the exact same place at the exact same time and that a very specific sperm cell happened to manage to enter your mother's ovum first when they had sex. Therefore, the chance you or me or anyone else even exists is almost zero. Do you see my point? Just because something is coincidental doesn't mean it couldn't happen." One sin added.
(Six years ago in February, Dusky bridge had wildflowers, mist and mild drizzle. Present case? Completely covered in snow with impending thunderstorm blizzards. Talk about a climate change!)
"It's 2019. Welcome to climate change! Have you been living under a rock for the past years?" one sin added.
(Bikini laughs at the thought of dead customers. Some business she's running.)
"Pierce has no idea what humor is. I already knew that, but it's even clearer here. Still, dead-people humor does gain a whole new meaning up here." One sin added.
(Maya predicts Phoenix will fall into Eagle river before anyone else does. Go Maya! Still a foreshadowing sin.)
"Pierce sins something she likes cliché." One sin added.
[(Meeting "Elise Deaxnium") Misty Fey returned from hiding not to mourn her eldest-who died in an effort to help her come home-celebrate the truth of DL-6 being revealed or help her eighteen year old youngest and eight year old niece get along after her own sister is found to be a murder accomplice and go to prison…but she does return to become an accomplice in an elaborate "Savior" plot to "Protect" Maya from aforementioned sister's murder plans by aiding a madman obsessed with her dead daughter and those associated with her to the point of changing his career, spying on her relatives and…I'm getting too early into this, aren't I? Point is, Misty may not be an outright jerk, but she does have the same screwed priorities as, say, Zak Gramarye. And that's a sin.]
"Misty Fey could mourn for Mia's death while being away. I don't understand why coming back was related with her mourning her daughter. Also, Maya and Pearl are perfectly fine together. They love each other and Pearl is getting over her mother's crimes. Most importantly, it is stated Misty said she couldn't face her daughter because she was ashamed after her failure in DL-6, which ruined the family's reputation. She would go back into hiding after the plan was carried out. She still loved her daughter no matter how far away she was. If she didn't, you think she would come back after almost 20 years to put her life on the line to protect her? And Zak Gramarye…is a jerk, end of discussion. So…" one sin added.
[(Crossing dusky bridge.) It's been eleven years and at least two incidents and that bridge's condition continues to be outright shit. Bikini and Iris use that bridge to get to the inner sanctum. It's rotting/missing boards could kill them at any moment they are using it. Talk about a safety hazard! Why has no one before now put together the funds to rebuild this thing? Maybe now that's it about to get zapped by lighting and destroyed, they'll actually put in a new one.]
"The family is stated to not have any funds since DL-6 ruined their reputation. Only by the end of the case do they begin to gather money again thanks to the reputation they got by the murder. And I doubt the government will want to put in money for a bridge only two people use. They barely put money for things everyone uses. And the only reason the police fixes the bridge after it gets zapped is because they suspect Maya and a potential murderer are trapped on that side. Otherwise, they couldn't care less." One sin added.
(How closely affiliated are Khurain and Hazakura? I ask because both the statue of Ami Fey and Misty's scroll can be found in this place despite their obvious connection to the Fey family. Did the branch family that owned that statue lend it out to these folks? Is Bikini the person who gave it to the exposition in the first place? That is never really explained.)
"It's clear the temple was founded by members of the branch family. Bikini was obviously one of these members and has been left as the caretaker. If the branch family members who founded it are the same ones who owned the statue and the scroll, they could lend the statue to the exhibition. Done. It doesn't take that much thinking." One sin added.
(Maya sees the master's crest and immediately assumes it's a picture of her mother, but…if she's too young to know either way, couldn't this be her grandmother or great-grandmother or really any of the master of Khurain? We have no idea how old this scroll is. While Maya does end up being right, her reasoning proves nothing.)
"It's called instinct. People "feel" those things inside them. Mayas has been left without a mother most of her life, so when she sees a scroll of the master, she assumes it's her mother, probably because she feels the need of her, but also because something inside her is telling her that's her. It's not a scientific explanation, but it is real." One sin added.
(Phoenix adds evidence to the court record while on vacation. It's like he knew ahead of time thing were all gonna go to shit and wanted to be ready when they do. Is this genre savviness or foreshadowing? I can never be sure on this one.)
"Pierce literally thinks the court record symbolizes Phoenix writing things down on a notebook or something instead of just remembering them. You kinda tend to remember things from trip. If you don't…then don't bother traveling." one sin added.
(The recurrence of Larry Butz) I was actually somewhat okay with the Laurice Deaxnium the first time the series pulled this stunt. The two times after that? Not so much. It might not be quite a sin of this case…)
"No need to say anything further! You just admitted that is not a sin of this case! Laurice is a good bit of character development for Larry." one sin added.
(Larry took "secret photos" of Maya's mother-who's essentially his boss-without her permission, then made copies of said photo that he will distribute to anyone and…no one finds this weird or inappropriate.)
"Why would they? Those photographs are not showing anything strange or inappropriate. It's just her face. It's essentially a bunch of autographs. And besides, she is looking directly into the camera. She knows she's being photographed. Larry says it was secret because…he's still a bit dumb." One sin added.
(How did he get this picture of Misty without her noticing? She is staring right into the camera!)
"Yes…look on the above sin for this one." One sin added.
[(Phoenix and Iris) Both Iris and Phoenix insist they need to use the bathroom, but neither one actually does. I guess Phoenix was right when he said Dollie doesn't poop.]
"Phoenix saw the girl he used to date who he thinks tried to kill him even though she's supposed to be in prison and Iris saw the guy she fell in love with while posing as her sister. Those things tend to make your pee go away." one sin added.
(Did Larry call Edgeworth instead of the police? I…can almost believe that.)
"Larry clearly called the police, since they are already working at the scene when Edgeworth gets there. He then called Edgeworth because he needed a man to defend Iris and Phoenix was out of commission." One sin added.
"Also, Pierce something she agrees with." One sin added.
(Larry brags about graduating from middle school. Did he never finish high school? I…can almost believe that.)
"Pierce sins something she agrees with. Again." One sin added.
[(Phoenix caught a nasty cold) Yeah, it's called pneumonia]
"Pierce yells at the screen cliché." one sin added.
(How does Edgeworth not remember Dahlia even after meeting Iris? That was his first case in court and it ended with him nearly losing. Considering how obsessed he was with winning at the time, I can't imagine it felt his mind very easily.)
"Yes, he is still plagued by that case. But it was still six years ago. And Iris has black hair. He remembers, but he takes time." One sin added.
(Psycholocks.)
"Sinning the psycholocks." One sin added.
(Edgeworth trusts the psycholocks to tell him whether or not a defendant is guilty after possessing the magatama for a total of eight minutes and doubting its powers regardless. It's not like we had an entire case dedicate to why that is a bad idea or anything. This series wants to bake its case and ignore it, too.)
"Well, Edgeworth is seeing chains and locks appear before his eyes. He does not put all his faith in it, but unlike you, he can suspend his disbelief. He has been told it works by his best friend an he knows as a responsible prosecutor he should give new ideas a chance." One sin added.
(Edgeworth sees Gumshoe for the first time in eleven month and his first instinct is to insult him.)
"Which is perfectly in character for him, isn't it? This is Edgeworth's way of showing people he actually likes them." one sin added.
(Gumshoe yells both "hold it" and "Objection" but neither phrase gets a speech bubble. Why is that?)
"Because he is not a prosecutor or a lawyer. And unless you are in court-where witnesses get wild-no one besides them gets a speech bubble." One sin added.
(Madonna references.)
"And? This is neither the first nor the last time this series references pop culture. I see no problem here." One sin added.
(Can attorneys on either side of the courtroom really just request another judge preside over their case?)
"No. Only Edgeworth can pull that. How can you play three games of this series and not get Edgeworth is pulling all the strings around there? Being the prodigy who apparently commited suicide and rose form his own ashes does open a lot of doors for you." One sin added
(Gumshoe the wizard did not make it into the final version of the game.)
"Don't worry. That's why we have fan art." One sin added.
(Breaking Iris' psycholocks.) How is Larry this bad at writing love letters? As far as we know, he's had at least three or four girlfriends up to this point. Sure, none of them lasted very long, but the sheer fact that he was able to land them in the first place proves he should be better than this. I refuse to believe this is his first time trying to woo a girl through mail, so what's up with this bullshit?]
"And when exactly was Larry confirmed to have tried to win girls by mail? Oh, never? He may be good with words and romantic moves-at first-but the fact all his relationships ended in failure means he sucks at something." One sin added.
[(Larry claims he chased a girl to Tibet.) Don't you mean Khura'in?]
"No." one sin added.
(Larry's psycholocks.) It is Edgeworth's second time with the magatama and Larry thinks he's already surpassed Phoenix at using it. I mean, logic chess serves basically the same function without the evidence presenting, so I guess he got in some good practice before…wait, AAI2 takes place after this game, doesn't it?]
"Guys…if anyone ever figures out what the problem here is, please tell me. I see a bunch of statements, but no actual issue." One sin added.
(Larry writes salutation here instead of an actual salutation.) Is this really the first time Larry's ever written a letter? I…have a hard time believing that.]
"Great. Then show us proof that he has. What, the game has to show you how everything works, but you sin the game based on assumptions you have nothing to base on?" one sin added.
[(Larry get more locks and Edgeworth scream.) No.]
"Are you padding the sin count, sis?" one sin added.
(Also, Edgeworth speaks for every player ever at this stage of the case. Now if only we could rage-quit psyche-locks more often.)
"Pierce has no patience. And investigations into murders require tons of patience. In other words, Pierce would suck at murder investigations. But of course…whoever would hire Pierce to solve crimes for them probably deserved whatever crime happened to them." One sin added.
(Bikini's comic shortness. Most people on the stand are visible above the waste, so…is Bikini really about three feet tall?)
"Yes. They were running out of space in the memory card and made her short on purpose to save space." One sin added.
[(Is there some sort of "Kick me" sign stuck to the defense's bench?) Yes, yes there is. Glad you noticed.]
"Pierce talks to the screen cliché." one sin added.
[(There was no complicated setup in this case) Hahahahhahahhahha-breathes-….hahahahhaha.]
"Pierce sins irony. Also, seeing her laugh like this is reminding me of Jeremy's cringey laugh. And…"shudder"" One sin added.
(Franziska offers to massage Bikini's back after the trial. We never see her do this.)
"Did we really need to? The fandom is on enough fire on its own" one sin added.
(Snowmobile tracks contradiction.) Lots and lots of snow puns.]
"Hey, I laughed at them. So did everyone else. You need to have your sense of humor checked out." One sin added.
(Calling Larry to the witness stand) In order to get the court to call this guy as witness, Edgeworth…hammers in what an absolute dumbass he is? If you're so worried about whether or not the witness will be perceived as credible, maybe don't go out of your way to insult him.)
"That is what the court is looking for right now, though. They have all agreed only a complete idiot would go outside on such a cold and stormy night. In order to convince them Larry was actually outside, Edgeworth needs to make it clear he is dumb enough to do so. The fact he is dumb makes him more credible in this case, as it means he saw something." One sin added.
[(In recess) For reasons that are never explained, Iris refuses to tell anyone about Godot's plan, even when her own life and freedom are on the line. We never even find out why she agreed to be his accomplice in the first place, much less why she's willing to go to prison for this guy. She doesn't know Maya, she doesn't know Godot or Pearl…and if you think about it, if she were to confess now, this case would lose half its runtime. Iris may not be the only character to do this in this case, but that doesn't change the fact that her silence, in retrospect is annoying as fuck.]
"You have long missed the plot, my friend. Iris was recruited into the plan because she was staying at the temple, which made her an ideal person for the job. I bet Godot knew about her, he probably came across some reference while looking through the fake kidnapping case, and so he realizes she could help. Iris on the other hand feels guilty for the way she deceived Phoenix five years earlier and she has been looking for a chance to redeem her soul. She thought helping protect the life of the future master and close friend of Phoenix might do that. After it failed, she decided to protect Godot, even at the cost of her own life. She wants to protect him because he put his own life on the line to protect Maya and she believes that she actually does deserve to be punished for what she did to Phoenix. So she is not afraid of prison and she thinks her own life is worth sacrificing to defend a noble cause. And who wants to play a mystery game and have all important clues revealed in the first hour? What's the point then?" five sins added sin added.
(Larry's testimony.)
"You mean the testimony that literally saved Edgeworth's ass and allowed him to earn another day of investigation? That one? Right…cool…" one sin added.
[(Discussing Larry and Iris "Coming" and "Being excited) Sexual innuendo]
"…You know we can see that too, right?" one sin added.
(Larry the alien did not make it…)
"Skip!" one sin added.
(Larry sketch presented to the court) Some awkward shit.]
"Again…this one piece of evidence turns the whole case around. Give poor Larry a fuckin' break. He is a hero in this case!" one sin added.
(Larry's sketch, while bizarre proves vital to solving a complicate cliché origin.)
"Can you really call something that has only happened three times in the same series a cliché? I don't think you can." One sin added.
(If Larry is so insistent the flying in woman was wearing a hood, why did he draw her with flowing hair? That is never explained.)
"That is the hood, girl. You need new glasses! Hoods flow in the wind, too, you know!" one sin added.
(Are…you…high!) The question every player is asking themselves at this stage in the case made it nto the final version of the script. Don't ask me how. I don't know.]
"Yup…she is still shitting on poor Larry. This guy may not be perfect…but his talent in drawing saved this case. When will he get the appreciation he deserves?" one sin added.
(If the crystal sphere is detachable from the stuff, how was it stuck on it in the first place? It doesn't appear to insert anywhere, and it would have fallen off before now if it was balanced on it. So how was this thing constructed in the first place? With glue?)
"Answering your own question cliché. Yes, it was probably glued on it. And an impact equivalent of being dropped off the second floor would be enough to knock it off." One sin added.
(Why is Franziska so pissed about the trial being extended to another day? She hasn't lost yet, nor is she-technically-going to. Did she know ahead of time Godot was going to steal her spot on the prosecution's bench? If not, I thought she'd be happy at the thought she might face off against Phoenix Wright again. If she were to win that case, she could brag about beating both Edgeworth and him. After all, isn't that what she wanted to begin with? I am so confused.)
"Franziska didn't ever care about beating Phoenix personally. She only wanted to beat him to show Edgeworth she was better than him. Now she got a chance to crush Edgeworth himself and she doesn't want to lose it. But Edgeworth says at the trial next day, Phoenix will be back. Even if she wins, it won't count for beating Edgeworth, since he has passed the baton. She wanted to crush him personally while he was there. She will still enjoy crushing Phoenix, but it won't be the same. What is so confusing?" one sin added.
(Also, Edgeworth fully admits he never had any intention of winning this case and wanted to foist it off onto Phoenix for the second day all along. So what was all that pretending he did during the investigation for? Huh, Edgey?)
"Well…when you are defending someone, you cannot flat out say: "I won't get you an acquittal. I'll just stall for time until someone else comes to take over." And besides, Edgeworth did do everything in his power to help Iris like he said. But he knew he couldn't possibly win an acquittal from the first day." one sin added.
(Franziska whips Larry into unconsciousness, screaming about how she demands satisfaction) Well, that was pervertedly worded]
"It didn't have any perverted meaning though. Franziska feels her chance to crush Edgeworth was ruined because of Larry's terrible testimony and wants to satisfy her ego by whipping him. Okay, it sounds weird, but it makes sense in this context." One sin added.
(Judge says we'll get answers to this case the next time these parties gather together in the courtroom, but when the answers are revealed, none of said people are here, not even him.)
"So you think he expected he would catch a nasty cold and be unable to attend? I don't think he did." One sin added.
(Back to phoenix) Piece of narration repeated from the previous case]
"Which is vital to solving this case and some players might have forgotten about, especially if time passed between playing the previous case and this one. When will you realize some things are done for the benefit of the audience?" one sin added.
(Phoenix went to visit Dusky bridge despite still having a 102.2 degree fever and being green in the face. Someone doesn't like healing. Why would the hospital even let him leave in these conditions?)
"His determination to know the truth is stronger than his fever. He has mustered the courage to go there despite feeling weak. And Edgeworth could have check him out of the hospital, saying he will look after him." One sin added.
[(Edgeworth summarizes the trial for Phoenix) Recapping shit we already know. Couldn't they have done this off-screen.]
"They did. Edgeworth is not telling him anything new. He is just reminding him that since the shichishito is not the murder weapon, there has to be another sword somewhere and that they need to find it. It's called priorities, man." One sin added.
[(Gumshoe is setting up rigging so they can get to the other side of the bridge) Yesterday, they couldn't rescue Maya by helicopter because of the wind, What's today's excuse? Need I remind you that's she's been trapped there for almost two days in the cold with no food while channeling her psycho cousin? In a cavern? With a nine tear even more vulnerable than she is outside? And her mother's murderer?]
"Asks what the excuse is for not rescuing Maya by helicopter…immediately after showing the reason why the can't. They said the winds yesterday were too strong to do an aerial rescue. Every person that is not an idiot will realize that the winds are still strong today. Strong winds don't just go away in one day. And the helicopter could very easily crash. That's why you climb the Everest and don't just fly to the top. You add a bunch of unnecessary information to justify your sin, but ignore the fact there was neither a quicker nor a more efficient way to save her." One sin added.
(Larry warns Franzy to star in a book called Franzy's whip lash splash.) Well, that sounds pornographic.]
"It's an illustration book for children. Yes, I know most parents wouldn't buy that for their kids, but it's not porn. But even if it was…why would that be a sin? Many people enjoy that stuff. Not me, but I respect other people's right to enjoy it." One sin added.
(Long sighs.)
"Pierce points out things on the screen cliché." One sin added.
(Phoenix blames Bikini for Maya being trapped at the inner temple, but she hadn't gone back across that night, Bikini would have been stuck there, too. It's not like she can control whether or not lightning will strike. I get he's sick, but Phoenix's reasoning makes no sense here.)
"People tend to blame others when something goes wrong. Phoenix is worried about Maya, who has been trapped for almost two days in the cold with no food. If Bikini hadn't come back, she would at least be over there, to make sure Maya would be safe. There isn't much she could have done, and it's not even her fault, but Phoenix feels the urge to blame her because she was the only one with Maya at the time. Yes, it may make him feel like a dick, but humans are prone to acting like dicks under duress, so…" one sin added
(Bikini says Maya might be trapped with a murderer.) Foreshadowing.]
"Pierce really hates foreshadowing. For no reason. And this is not even correct! Foreshadowing is when a character throws a random line that ends up being a hint for what will happen later. Bikini is stating a very possible fact right now." One sin added.
(Pearl is rescued after being alone and starving for two days, and her first instinct is to run off after a brief conversation. Because that makes sense.)
"You are misrepresenting a scene again. Pearl feels responsible here. She tried to follow her mother's plan, which resulted in Maya's mother getting killed and Maya herself being put in deep danger. Pearl loves Maya and only followed the plan because she thought it was for her own good. Now that she knows what she almost did to her, she feels heartbroken and that everyone will be better if she's not around. You fail to realize people in pain cannot think straight and make proper decisions. They are not robots, gal!" one sin added.
(Phoenix mentions there was snow on the incinerator the last time he saw it.) It was also an entirely different color. How did that happen?]
"A…are you actually serious? I hope you are lying here, because the alternative is you are blind. The incinerator is the same golden brown color both times we see it. It may look different because the door is now open and its rust is showing .But to say it is an "Entirely different color…" I think you need to see an eye doctor." One sin added.
(Godot randomly shows up at the inner temple days after days of no one hearing from him without anyone else seeing him cross the bridge. He also knows too much about Hazakura for a man who just got here…and absolutely no one finds this suspicious? Okay…)
"So you think Godot being Godot is suspicious. In every case so far, Godot has always been on top of things. He has known everything and waited for the right moment to reveal it. So the fact he is knowledgeable about Hazakura and the Fey family in general is not that odd. You still haven't realized Godot is…that dude! And also, he mentions he had an appointment to the doctor, so his absence is partially explained." one sin added.
(If the bridge was inaccessible until a few minutes ago, how does Godot already know Phoenix wasn't defending anyone in yesterday's trial? Did he see him off the bridge? Is there Wifi on this mountain and Godot just happened to bring his laptop with him? I have so many questions.)
"Yes. Bikini does mention they can get reception even up here in the mountains. And Godot has a cellphone on him, so he has access to the prosecutor's office database with the information on current trials, including the defense and prosecution. How do you think he knows about Iris' arrest to begin with?" one sin added.
('I guess I owe you one, then. But you can go now, princess. It's time for the big boys to take the reins." And "Hey, filly. Know your role and shut your mouth. I can't stand women like you.") Godot isn't whipped for this. Also, this works? This is all it takes to get Franziska to turn a case over to a-by every quantifiable measure-less competent prosecutor, even when she has a vested personal interest in seeing it through to the end? I understand the plot reasons behind it, but Franziska letting this guy take the case from under her makes absolutely no sense.)
"Because you are just plain dishonest right now! Franziska had no intention no turning the case over to Godot. The fact Phoenix thought Franziska would be prosecuting when he was in the lobby the next day means she was supposed to be the prosecutor. But she got tied up by work. She and Bikini were working all night to open the locks and get Maya-or Iris as it turns out-out before she freezes to death. So, Godot has to step in to replace her. Also, you complain about Godot making sexist remarks and getting away with it, but...Edgeworth just last episode called Mia a Bimbo and he is still the most beloved character in the entire series. Let's just say our society has many double standards and this is one of them." five sins added.
(Godot claims Phoenix knows who killed Diego.) Technically, this is true. Bus since Phoenix doesn't know Godot is Diego-how that's possible when he watched turnabout beginnings like the rest of us is anyone's guess-this is just an excuse for Godot to spoon-feed some more foreshadowing to the player. Because this case isn't over-saturated with that as is.]
"Well, Phoenix does figure out Godot is Diego. And he does that thanks to, among other things, this discussion. Which, by the way, is a cornerstone of Godot's characterization. We see his motivations and try to sympathize with his pain. This is necessary for players like you to get why he is the way he is and why he is a tragic character and not a villain." One sin added.
"Also, what sweet irony that you complain about the game spoon-feeding information to the player when you constantly need things explained to you on a five-page essay." One sin added.
(Godot came to Hazakura two day ago to save Maya from a murder plot. Now he openly taunts Phoenix about how Maya is totally gonna die of hypothermia after being locked in the sacred cavern on a block of ice for two days. Talk about a role reversal!)
"This is part of Godot's character. He was in terrible pain after losing Mia and he couldn't come to terms with his failure to stop her, so he turned his hatred to Phoenix, trying to beat him in a vain effort to ease his pain. His failure to protect Maya and the fact he ended up killing her mother is making him feel unable to protect anyone again and feels the need to take it out on Phoenix to get his mind off the fact that all he wants is to throw himself down the eagle river. This seems bad, but don't forget Godot is a broken man. He has been through hell and back. The fact he has the courage to go back to life instead of just choosing death is admirable in itself. He makes a lot of mistakes, but he realizes how much of a fool he's been by the end and decides to make amends. I will stop here, because I'm getting ahead of myself. More on this later." One sin added.
(Also, Godot blames Phoenix for sending Maya to her death when it was her and Pearl's choice to come here and they dragged Phoenix along mostly against his will.)
"Skip! Read my above sin for this!" one sin added.
(Recapping the events of turnabout sisters. Is there anyone who thought it was a good idea to not play the first game before coming here? Even I'm not that stupid.)
"(Trying to stifle laughter) A…are you sure about that...?" one sin added.
(Also, Godot seriously misunderstands the events of turnabout sisters. Phoenix was not with Mia at the time when she was murdered. No one was but her murderer. If you're gonna run around pointing fingers, get your facts straight.)
"Godot does not say Phoenix was literally there and twiddling his thumbs while White killed Mia. He means he was by her side and he should have looked after her just like she looked after him. Again…don't make me say it again." one sin added.
(Going outside to talk with Gumshoe.) Gumshoe tells Franziska and Phoenix to not go to the garden, but…as of now, isn't Franziska still the acting prosecutor on this case? Doesn't he answer to her still? When exactly does the case transfer over to Godot anyway? The first time I played this case, I thought it wasn't until the morning of the trial, because Franziska still wanted to break open the locks to save-who she thought was going to be-Maya, but now you're telling me it was earlier than that? I'm so confused here.)
"Gumshoe telling them not to go in there is not a matter of order. It's a matter of friendly advice towards Phoenix and trying to protect Maya. He looked there and saw her name written in blood. Franziska is still the acting prosecutor, so he knew if she saw it, Maya would become a suspect. Gumshoe is trying to be a good guy here." One sin added.
"Also, earlier Pierce said Franziska immediately handed the case over to Godot because she got scared by his sharp words. But now she shows she knows exactly when, why and how the case transferred to him. So…five sins for hypocrisy." Five sins added.
(The words "Scientifically speaking" uttered by anyone other than E…wait, Rise from the ashes hasn't bee written yet, has it?)
"Nope. So this line might actually be the one that inspired Ema's character. And if that's the case…" One sin added.
(Hey I have a question: if a spirit medium channels someone else and touches something, do they leave their fingerprints or the ones of the person they're channeling? If their body suits to morph the host, wouldn't that include forensic evidence like fingerprints? Considering how much sprit channeling and forensics are used in this series, and how long the series has been running, you'd think someone would have answered the question by now.)
"Do you why it isn't answered? Because it hasn't been relevant up to this point. It may be touched on AA7 or some other future game if it becomes relevant, but right now, it doesn't matter. It would be interesting to get a bit more info on who spirit channeling works, but this is not something really wrong with the game. Games don't have to explain everything. Tell me guys: did not knowing this make this series bad?" one sin added.
(Why were Iris and Edgeworth wasting time talking at the main gate? Di they forget Maya is trapped in an icy cavern and might die? Get a sense of urgency, here!)
"Well, Edgeworth has been racking his brain for two days trying to remember where he knows Iris from. And now that he has a chance, he wants to get her to talk to him. I think they were talking on their way there and probably just arrived. One or two minutes won't make a difference." One sin added.
(Now Phoenix is wasting time talking to these two? What the fuck?! Haul off, assholes!)
"He is trying to convince them to let him come along to see Maya's rescue and they constantly turn him down. They are not talking." one sin added.
(Regarding Elise's true identity) In some pictures and her sprites, Misty has the same hair color as Maya. In others, it the same as Mia and Pearl. Did she dye her hair? What is this?)
"The photographs we've seen are twenty years old. I bet she did dye her hair in that time. Even women in self-exile need their makeover. And since she was going to interact with Maya as part of the plan, she needed to change her appearance a bit." One sin added.
(Wow! That earthquake has great dramatic timing! Someone get it an acting job!)
"She says the earthquake is a coincidence…but she doesn't realize the earthquake is important because it happens when it does. How can you play his entire series and not get everything in a mystery story happens for a reason? The earthquake serves a narrative purpose." One sin added.
(An earthquake happens, potentially endangering Edgeworth and Maya, and Phoenix and Franziska respond by having a conversation and boding as individuals, instead of, you know, going to make sure everyone is alright. Why does everyone here like to loiter in times of crisis in this investigation?)
"What?! Phoenix and Franziska ran off to check on Edgeworth immediately after the earthquake stops. He is literary the first person Phoenix thinks of. They even stop their conversation with Bikini to do so. You are making shit up, again, to the point Jeremy would be proud!" one sin added.
(Edgeworth plays the pronoun game for the sake of being dramatic.)
"It's not the pronoun game because both Phoenix and Franziska know who he is referring to. The pronoun game is when the listener doesn't know who the speaker is referring to. Don't you know your own-Jeremy's-ruining gags?" one sin added.
(We later find out Dahlia is impersonating Iris while being channeled by Maya. But if she's actually in Maya's body…why does her body show no ill effects from being trapped in a frozen cavern with no food for two days? Does being channeled change the fact she should be weak and hungry as fuck.)
"Yes. A channeled spirit retains their own strength, even if the medium's body is weakened. And after five years of swimming around in the spirit realm, Dahlia has been pretty energetic. Maya has been channeling her for two whole days. That's why she doesn't feel the effects of her weakness. Why do you think she collapses immediately after Dahlia leaves her body?" one sin added.
(Edgeworth hides the fact he met Dahlia before Phoenix did for no apparent reason. Dahlia isn't Iris. All Edgeworth said is he'd seen her face before, not met her.)
"Edgeworth clearly says he is not allowed to divulge information about the identity of that woman unless a connection is established. The case he handled with Dahlia is treated as unrelated right now, and without evidence of a connection, Edgeworth has no right to speak about that case. Police confidentiality is a thing." One sin added.
(Larry and Pearl hanging out at the heavenly hall.) For a guy Pearl's only seen once, she sure is confident going with him alone to an abandoned shack so they can "Lose themselves forevermore." Because that's not a stupid idea. Pearl may be nine, but I giver her more credit than this.)
"Pearl would like to get lost right now. She feels guilt-ridden for what she did, so she wants to get away from the others, thinking they will be better off without her. And Larry is the only one that hasn't been hurt by her actions and the shack is the only place she thinks they won't search for her." One sin added.
[(Recapping turnabout sisters and reunion and turnabout along with DL-6.) We get it. This case is supposed to be finale of the trilogy and the game. Why else would they acknowledge all the cases leading up to it? All the cases except the one that was supposed to change how Phoenix operated as a lawyer forevermore, but go off, I guess.]
"The first part of this in unnecessary information. You said that many cases in the trilogy were leading up to this, which we already know and are perfectly okay with. So you just added that in to disguise the fact all you wanted to do was bitch about farewell, my turnabout for the tenth time! For someone who criticizes all games as repetitive, you sure repeat a lot of the same lines!" one sin added.
[(Iris is Pearl's half-sister.) I feel for Phoenix and his shock, here. I too had trouble believing Morgan got two separate men to fuck her, let alone marry. Power and status only works to describe her first marriage-before Misty became master, then left Khurain disgraced-so…what was Pearl's father getting out of this union.]
"That's very offensive. Morgan is very bitter and evil, but she is that way because two different men left her and she lost the position she wanted. You cannot know what she used to be like. And our suggestion no man in his right mind would marry her without a good reason is wrong on so many levels. He left her because he felt sidelined, as do all men in that village, but that has nothing to do with the reasons why he married her." One sin added.
[(Iris and Dahlia.) Evil twin cliché. Also, I have serious questions about Morgan's first divorce: to start, since when are men capable of winning a custody battle against the biological mother? What did Morgan do to lose that fight?]
"Oh, I don't know. Most courts would not view a remote village on the mountains with no schools, hospitals, police and a dubious connection to the spirit world as an appropriate place to raise children. And jewelers have enough money to buy the best lawyers." One sin added.
(How does Bikini not know Dahlia's name? Iris tells us the two still hang out and met with each other after separation. I find it hard to believe that Iris was willing to hide that from Bikini.)
"Really? The fact she was meeting with her sociopathic, murderous twin sister that almost nobody knows about is something you would say to the woman who raised you like a mother? I've said it before and I'll say it again: Pierce is terrible at keeping secrets!" one sin added.
(Speaking of Phoenix's cold and forgetting things, did the game just forget he had it mid-investigation? Phoenix has been acting perfectly healthy for a while now, even though he was coughing up a storm earlier. The cold should be making his cold worse, not better.)
"Have you heard about self-suggestion? A bunch of shit has been happening over the past hours: Iris escaping and being found again, Maya becoming a suspect, the door to the secret cavern locked with five locks…Phoenix has been absorbed by the events and he has no time to think about his fever. And if you don't think about it, it goes away sometimes." One sin added.
[(Gumshoe: an investigator investigates for the love of investigating! It's a passion!) No, it's your job.]
"The best way to feel you don't work is to make your job your passion. How much do you hate your job?" one sin added.
(Gumshoe's singing.)
"Sinning Gumshoe's reggae." One sin added.
(Also, I just noticed: metal detectors and bug detectors were given the exact same sound effect. Why?)
"Because they were made by the same person made? But who actually cares?" one sin added.
(The reveal of the stuff-sword is cool and all, but…if Misty was always planning to channel Dahlia and he knew Dahlia was planning to kill, why would she bring a deadly weapon with her so her spirit could do just that? Is anyone actually interested in explaining shit in this case, or did Takumi just decide to write whatever sounded cool? At this point, I really have no reason to think otherwise.)
"And…how exactly would Dahlia know that? She didn't and that's why she grabbed a knife. That stuff posed no danger as long as Dahlia was unaware of its true nature. And she was." One sin added.
(Why wouldn't there be any legal record of Iris having a twin?)
"I'm gonna stop you right there because you are sinning the game for something you cannot know! There most likely is a record on her! But so far, there has been no reason to disclose that information. Her twin sister was executed. Why would anyone care to make that piece of info known? Edgeworth already knows, but he doesn't say it because a connection between her and the case has yet to be proven." One sin added.
(I'm late asking this, but how is it Iris and Dahlia were identical in everything expect hair color?)
"Apart from time, hair dye also confuses cinemasins." One sin added.
(Edgeworth explains Dahlia was executed.) Recapping shit from the first case.]
"You know, not everything is done in the perspective of people playing the cases in order. It's been five years and Edgeworth wishes to create context before getting into the details. That's what normal people do when they talk." One sin added.
(Also, Phoenix thinks "Iris" is trying to help Franziska to free Maya from the cavern, but he also thinks it's a good idea to constantly bother her. He can't wait for Maya to be free first?)
"Because he knows it will probably take all night to get Maya out and he wants to get to know the truth from Iris before they go to court so he can defend her? What is so peculiar about that? Besides, "Iris" can still work while they talk. Ever heard of multitasking?" one sin added.
(Morgan told her nine-year old kid to channel her murderess of a sister in order to kill her cousin.) Some messed-up shit. Hold on. I need to go cleanse my soul.]
"Yes. It is really messed-up. But why is that a sin? Have you ever seen mystery stories? Murder is always messed-up. Sure, this takes it to a whole new level, but that is standard for this series by this point." One sin added.
(Where is the guest area at the inner temple that Pearl speaks of? We never see it.)
"Because it is not necessary to see it. We just need to know of it…which is why Pearl brings it up. Would you prefer it if the game made up a half-baked excuse to have us go there for five minutes and never come back? Wouldn't that make it seem like the story was an afterthought?" One sin added.
(Is the inner temple area larger than I think it is? How is it that three people were over there and never ran into each other for two days? I mean, yeah, Maya is in the cavern, but either Pearl is a terrible finder or Godot is awesome at hiding.)
"It's not that hard to hide there. There is entire forest behind the temple. If Godot got in there, Pearl would never find him because she would never dare go in there." One sin added.
[(Godot shows up after Pearl mentions the letter seal being broken when she found it.) foreshadowing.]
"Still no reason to hate it." One sin added.
(How did Godot beat pearl to Morgan's letter without anyone noticing? Pearl wasn't with Phoenix and Maya in January-during the third case-so we have she was living in Khurain then. We have no reason to believe she didn't go straight home after seeing her mother. That means that Godot was eavesdropping on their visit when it happened, drove-if he passed the driver's test in his condition, otherwise he took the same train as Pearl, which makes this even worse-to Khurain and went pilfering through a secret corner in the village without anyone-including Pearl-ever noticing a stranger in their midst. He's…not exactly inconspicuous. This whole scenario is bullshit.]
"Your logic has more holes than swiss cheese. Your are basing everything in the assumption Pearl went to get the plan immediately after speaking with her mother. But you have nothing to base that on. What if Pearl went to speak with her before the stolen turnabout? She could have gone stayed for a bit for the exhibition and gone back to Khurain before recipe for turnabout to get the plan. That gave Godot at least a couple days. More than enough time to get to Khurain. He could have broken into the house through a back window without anybody spotting him, found the plans and left before anyone saw him. This scenario is entirely possible. The only thing bullshit here is this fic has 15 reviews and I am the first one to call you out on this shit!" one sin added.
(Also, let's talk about Morgan's plan for a second.)
"Let's not." One sin added.
[(Franziska and Bikini don't go to trial because they are trying to open the sacred cavern.) This is great and all, but if Maya is considered a suspect in this case, is there a reason the trial can't be delayed until the confirm their condition and clear her of suspicion? You can't very well go to trial with two suspects, can you?)]
"Because "Iris" has decided to confess to her part in the plan. She still has a role in the crime not made clear, so it would be in the interests of the court to hear what she has to say." One sin added.
[(Godot claims "cute girls never lie. Ever") Ironic, coming for you.]
"Pierce talks to the screen cliché." One sin added.
"Also, sinning irony." One sin added.
[(You're in no position to say this witness isn't telling the truth!) isn't he, though? "Iris" is the defendant of this case, with an obvious reason to lie. Did the court just forget that? None of her testimonies have held up to scrutiny. There may be strange sights on the other side of the bridge, but that doesn't change what has proved in court yesterday. The person on trial here is not Maya, but Iris. The only reason she hasn't been declared guilty already is because Godot is more interested in covering for his own ass and torturing Phoenix than he is in doing his job. So she's allowed to keep going into her fourth testimony, because…reasons.]
"Well, "Iris" was denying everything yesterday, but now she is confessing to being an accomplice to murder. She has no reason to do that-or the court thinks so-and even though Phoenix has found issues with all three of her testimonies, Godot has managed to shoot him down every time with strong counterarguments. The court has to hear more if they want to find out what everything is about." One sin added.
[(Exposing Dahlia) This makes for a fun plot twist and all, but isn't there a faster way to prove which twin "Iris" really is? Just take DNA or fingerprints sample. As I understand it, these two things should still identify her as Maya, not Iris. That would prove that Dahlia is being channeled and who is channeling her. But then we would ruin the dramatic scene later, so…fine. Take the long way.]
"Two sins here. One for sinning the great dramatic scene later…and another for again making baseless claims. Are you really trying to apply laws of forensic evidence to spirit channeling without any clue as to how that would work? Get over yourself!" one sin added.
(Godot gives no shits that the woman who murdered him is standing right in front of them all. For perspective, last time he saw her, he killed her spirit medium and his ex-lover's mother with a stab in the back. This time, he's calm and coffee-sipping? The fuck?)
Godot was already aware that she wasn't the real Iris from the moment she told him "the truth" because he knows what happened, so he has decided to roll with it and see if Phoenix will manage to figure it the truth. He is fuming internally right now, but he has to hide it for the sake of the trial. There is something called: "Being the better man." And Godot is a better man." One sin added.
(How does Godot know Iris is the younger twin? This was never told to us before.)
"Two words: Background search." One sin added.
(And how has Phoenix not realized Maya's true location yet? Or Dahlia, for that matter? As of Misty's death, there are two spirits mediums in the entire nation: Pearl and Maya. He saw Pearl as herself this morning before trial started. She's in the gallery right now, and is about to channel Mia. But it takes him time to figure out anyway, because…dramaticism.)
"Phoenix is unable to think clearly right now because he is a confused psychological state. Fear and panic aren't just names of cartoon characters. He literally sees the girl that tried to kill him come back from beyond the grave as a ghost and is led to believe his best friend has killed herself. He is not able to think straight. Once he sees the evidence and realizes Maya killing herself is impossible, he composes himself and figures the truth out. And Dahlia is under the impression she is being channeled by Pearl. She never saw Pearl the whole time. Even after she is told, she is in denial because she cannot accept she was played like a fool by Mia and Maya." One sin added.
(Why did Bikini not think it was weird that "Iris" had Misty's staff? You'd think she would have remembered seeing it if it was there. But she didn't, because…plot._)
"Well, it was very dark. Aside from the moonlight, there was no source of light there. And her back was killing her in that moment. She might have just not noticed such a detail." one sin added.
[(Phoenix screams when he thinks Maya is dead.) No.]
"Phoenix is having a nervous breakdown right now and Pierce still feels like sinning him. Talk about kicking a man when he's down." One sin added.
[(Phoenix and Godot both quote Sherlock Holmes-the same quote nonetheless-witihn two minutes nonetheless) Repeated dialogue.]
"Says the girl that constantly repeats the phrases Deus ex Machina and cliché. Hypocrite much?" one sin added.
(Dahlia thinks Pearl is channeling her.) Either Dahlia can't see her own hair color or she has no idea what Pearl looks like.)
"I could say Dahlia has not actually ever seen Pearl…but I would like to point out that she is still in denial!" one sin added.
(Unfortunately, I can't remove sins for this plan. While brilliant, it relies on Maya or Mia knowing that Pearl was trying to channel Dahlia at the time and would eventually try again because her mother told her so. Now tell me: how would either of them have known that? Even if they thought Pearl had channeled Dahlia the first time, there's no way there is no way they should have known the rest. Does death bring Mia omniscience in every case? Spirit of justice tell us that's bullshit, but this game was written before it and by someone else regardless. We're given no indication that Maya found the burnt instructions, so how does the game plan…oh, who am I kidding? They are never going to explain this.)
"Mia figured out what was going on. And she didn't need omniscience. She used a power you do not have: common sense. Tell me: aside from Morgan, who already tried to eliminate Maya, who else would have a motive to have Pearl channel a sociopathic murderer? There is no way she would do it on her own. Once Mia realized Morgan was behind it, she thought it would be part of a plan and Pearl might try again. So she had Maya incapacitate Dahlia by channeling her and locking herself in the cavern. Her plan is very plausible and Mia would be capable to come up with it with the available evidence. You are greatly underestimating the smartest defense attorney we've seen so far." One sin added.
(Return of Maya) Fainting in court cliché]
"Maya has been left in the cold with no food for two days and channeling a spirit non-stop. Wouldn't it be sinful if she was full of energy right now?" one sin added.
(When the judge is about to end the case) Godot goes from trying to protect Maya in a murder plot…to outright trying to pin the blame of his murder on her. You can try and argue he wanted to reveal himself as the killer, but if that were the case, why not just confess? If Godot was right about everyone and Phoenix wasn't capable of figuring it out, Maya would go to jail for matricide. Even if she struck self-defense, that's still a crime in this universe. And again, he seems to have forgotten that the defendant in this case is Iris, not Maya. If he wanted to argue that Iris may still be guilty, he would have to claim nothing at all happened on the inner temple side of the bridge and go back on his own choice of calling Dahlia to the stand and presenting evidence supporting her story. Most notably, how Misty's blood ended up on the lantern. After all, Iris was stuck on the other side the whole time, and it's been proven to death the murder happened after the bridge caught fire. In other words, he'd have to act like this trial day thus far never even happened.)
"Pierce goes on an entire four-paragraph rant about Godot. I am not going to copy all that. And even thought I can respect her opinion about him, and I am not going to sin, I have to respond to her."
"First, you fail to realize the reason behind Godot trying to avert the verdict. He does feel guilty for what he did. He realizes that he allowed his hatred, which has been building up inside him for a long time, to get the better of him. Seeing Dahlia there caused him to lose control and explode in a fit of rage, with devastating circumstances. He wants to be caught, and that's why he gives Phoenix a chance. Even though he is trying to hate Phoenix for failing to protect Mia in his absence, he cannot. Because deep down, he knows he is wrong. That Phoenix has done more for Mia than he ever did and he is worthy of carrying on her legacy. He does trust Phoenix to discover the truth. No matter how much he has reviled him over the past months, he realizes his talent and he knows he is the only one capable of finding the truth. He is disgusted with himself for what he did, but he cannot muster up the courage to admit his folly. Only if he is brought to justice will he face up to his mistakes and let go of his past. And he knows Phoenix is the only one who can bring him down, which is why he is giving him this chance."
"His love with Mia, the fact he lost five years from his life in a coma, the fact he lost the love of his life and could not do anything about it…he has been broken down by all the events. Like Joker said, one bad day is all it takes to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. Godot managed to retain his sanity, but still was mentally-ill. That's why he was obsessively holding on to the past, to the perfect memories of his past life he was so cruelly robbed of. There were probably days he wished the poison had done its work. He would be better off dead. But he goes on living because he feels protecting Maya's life was the only way to make up for his failure to save Mia. That was the last shred of light inside his dark soul, trying to salvage what's left of itself. And unfortunately, another large truth is…if you don't die as a hero, you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Godot, in his blind, misguided request for salvation, lost the path to the light and became the villain of the story. He is not evil by any measure, just a victim of circumstances."
"He knew of the plan and he could have prevented it by going to Phoenix or the police. But he thought this was his chance to make amends for his past follies. You can make a case for this being his biggest mistake…and I agree. But in his warped state of mind, he has lost all sight of his moral compass and allowed the demons inside his soul to take control. He did kill Maya's mother, but he never meant any of it. It was the demon in his soul pushing him to do it. The darkness is inside all of us, even you and me. And we could also do something we never thought we were capable of…just by one bad day. If you lose everything and have no one left to blame but yourself…will you actually admit what you did wrong…or try to foist the blame off on someone else to avoid the terror or confronting your past? Godot is broken and you can blame him for a lot. He did do a lot…but you have to understand he had no way of stopping it. At least no way visible to him. And it's truly admirable how Takumi and the writers team pulled this. They managed to make this character human as well as superhuman, fragile as well as enjoyable, emotionally wrecked, as well as philosophized. A character no more or less human than all of us…a model of how all of us could turn out like if we fell victim's to such a series of tragedies. I respect people's opinions…but there is a reason Godot is so loved. Because, deep down, we can all sympathize and feel for him…and know he is no different than all of us on every level."
"Sounds cool on paper, right? Godot is one of my favorite characters and I have been searching for a chance to express how I feel for a very long time. Thanks for coming to my Ted-talk."
(And, once again, Iris refuses to name Godot, even though she has nothing to gain out of hiding it-or to lose from revealing it-because…reasons. I know I sinned this earlier, but it still pisses me off, goddammit!)
"And, once again, there is a reason for that. Iris was trying to make amends for deceiving and using Phoenix by helping protect Maya and Pearl…and now she wants to punish herself. She believes she does belong in prison. She doesn't care if she goes there and she thinks it is worth protecting the man who she thinks was trying to protect Maya in the process." One sin added.
(Mia is cryptic to put pressure on the player cliché. I get why, and I actually do appreciate letting Phoenix do the work this time, but either don't help him at all, or tell him everything. I never understood why this in-between stage existed.)
"Mia is not helping Phoenix. She is helping him gather his thoughts to be ready to go back in the courtroom. She only tells him two things, which he probably already knew as they are basic bits of deduction." One sin added.
[(It's not good to have too much light around when someone is undergoing spiritual training.) So what was up worth all the candles in the channeling chamber last game?]
"Pierce thinks candles create too much light. Also, Godot said light is not good for when undergoing training. Maya was actually channeling someone last game. There is a difference." One sin added.
[(Maya got hit on the head and was afraid of losing her memory.) Referencing the lost turnabout. Can we not just pretend like that case never happened? Please?]
"No." one sin added.
(Phoenix goes after Godot as the killer) Maya goes from "Convict the killer, Nick, or I'll never forgive you, even at the cost of my life" in the last game to protecting the killer in this game at all costs, even though he killed someone close to her and-if she doesn't fess up-has a reasonable chance of getting away with everything pinned on her.]
"Comparing Matt Engrave to Godot. You cannot be serious right now! Maya believes Godot saved her life. And he did! Sure, he was following a twisted sense of logic, but one of his motivations was saving Maya. She was literally the only reason he was willing to go on living his wreck of an existence. She does not think he does not deserve to atone for his crimes, but she cannot bring herself to testify against him after everything he did for her and her sister. It's called gratitude and loyalty. Even after Godot admits he wasn't actually trying to save Maya, Maya says she believes in him and knows there is good left in him. And she is right. He can find peace now, in more ways than one. This is not out of character. This is actually character development. Maya has become an adult. And being an adult sometimes means taking tough decisions. There may not be obvious right or wrong choice in every situation. And in those cases, you have to decide based on what your heart tells you." ten sins added.
(Also, even if Maya says she thought the killer was male for another reason, that does not spare Godot. Think of all the other male characters in this case for a minute. Does anyone believe for a second that Phoenix, Gumshoe, Edgeworth, Larry or one of the judges was the one who did it? That's ridiculous , you say? Well then. My point is proven.)
"No, it's not. Because Maya's reasoning for why she thought the killer was male does nothing to prove it was a male. A woman could do all the manual labor on her own. So…the suspects still are not a lot, but Godot is not the only suspect." One sin added.
[(Judge allows Maya's hearsay to stand) So if both the prosecution and defense agree, then casual hearsay can be admitted as testimony? That…doesn't sound legal.]
"Pierce acts like she knows shit about law. Let me break it to you: both sides in the courtroom are asking for something to be allowed right now. And that is incredibly rare. The judge has no reason not to allow it. After all, only one of the two sides can object to hearsay. The judge only sustains or overrules objections after they are made. He does not dismiss testimony on a whim even if both sides wish for it be permitted." One sin added.
[(Godot eavesdropped on Morgan and Pearl's visit.) This is probably the least objectionable crime that Godot commits, but it's still not legal. Ass a newly minted prosecutor and former defense attorney, he should know this.]
"Pierce thinks Godot cares about breaking the law to carry out his plan." One sin added.
(How did he spy on the meeting anyway?)
"Pierce here asks an irrelevant question that does not affect the case in the slightest. Look, I'll humor you. Godot bribed the guard who would be watching over Morgan and Pearl's talk. He knew who it would be thanks to his position as prosecutor. The guard let him put a bug in the room and hear their talk in secret. Nobody found out because the guard told nobody. Done! Now…did that affect the case in any way? No? Alrighty then." One sin added.
[(Proving Godot was Diego Armando) Well, I guess no one was waiting for Godot this time. We've strayed quite a bit from the source material, haven't we?]
"Pierce makes a pop culture reference that isn't a sin of the case cliché." One sin added.
[(Godot was able to find Misty because the police were keeping tabs on her.) And they just tell any new prosecutor about this, no matter how mysterious their origin…why again?]
"Why are you asusmign someone told him? When someone starts working at the prosecutor's office, he immediately gets in the system. And that means he gains access to all information on the database, including past cases and people of interest. Like Misty Fey." One sin added.
(Has Misty been keeping up with her spiritual training for the past seventeen years?)
"Yes, most likely. I'm sorry for not writing the entire sin down, but I am not sorry! Pierce makes a valid question and proceeds to write a bunch of shit that would only make sense if the answer to her question is no, with no confirmation of that being the case." One sin added.
(For one scene and one scene only, we can read Godot's thoughts, eve though we aren't playing as him.)
"No, no, no, no, no! You are not getting away with this! Sinning this scene, the greatest sin in the entire franchise, and possibly in the entire history of visual novels, for the nit-pickiest reason possible! What kind of black-hearted, bird-brained, moronic nitwit would sin this legendary scene?! I'm gonna drop a hundred-sin bomb on you! No, I am not changing my mind!" one hundred sins added.
[(Iris tells Phoenix that she's the "Dahlia" he dated) Yeah, my sin from the first case stands. There is absolutely no reason Iris couldn't have simply stolen the necklace back from Phoenix. The very fact she didn't was what put Phoenix in danger in the first place, and we don't even have a clear reason for Iris not doing it, anyway.]
"You are sinning characterization, just like in the first case. Iris fell in love with Phoenix while trying to take the necklace back. She also discovered how much he loved that necklace and the love he thought it represented. She couldn't bring herself to take it back, because she knew it would break his heart if he thought he lost it. She tried to win more time with Dahlia, but she lost her patience and, without even telling Iris, did what she did, and that's how things were knocked outta whack. Iris may be indirectly responsible, the very reason she has been blaming herself all this time, but she is not to blame for anything. All she is guilty of is falling in love with a man who deserved to be loved." One sin added.
(Trial is over) Mia says she and Phoenix will one day meet again. This never happens]
"You cannot be sure. We haven't had a chance, because Maya was absent for two games and was particularly busy in the last one. There is a good chance they will meet again in AA7." One sin added.
(Oh, hey Franziska and Edgeworth are here. Not gonna lie, I kinda forgot they were in this case. Considering they were the defense and prosecution on the first day of the trial, that's not a good thing.)
"Well, since Franziska shows some character development here and even seems to kind of grow to like Phoenix, and Edgeworth has a nice talk with Phoenix before the second day trial-during which he calls him his partner-yeah the sin is on you!" one sin added.
"And that's it. No more sins here. And I couldn't be happier. At least she has a resect for this awesome ending."
Total sin tally: 249
