Disclaimer- I do not own Grey Anatomy or the characters
This is my first time writing Grey's Anatomy fanfiction. I recently started to watch the show and fell in love with Callie and Addison friendship. I feel like they should've done so much more with their friendship.
In this I wanted to show what would happen if Addison was around more. How would she influence Sofia? How would she fit in the dynamic of Mark, Arizona and Callie? I also felt like should've been asked to be Sofia other godmom.
It was a hot day in the town Malibu, California. Addison was enjoying the town heat sitting in her backyard near the pool. Her husband and son went on a guys trip for the weekend and won't be back until Monday. She loved her small family yet the quietness is what she enjoyed the most. The sun hitting her skin, the birds flying above her high in the sky. The smell of the beach water water slightly reaches her nose every time there's a breeze. She relaxed, breathing deeply then exhaling slowly. Taking in mother nature around her.
About five minutes later her quietness was distributed by a young woman whose hair was black with curls falling down her back like her mothers. She had her father's smile yet the brightness you can tell it was from her mother. She got her eyes from her mother yet there was a spark of mischievousness that she got from her father. The strut of confidence which she got from her aunt Addison over the years, as a daughter of two doctors and a niece to a bunch of others, she was force to be recon with. The young woman was wearing a white tank top that was tucked into her boyfriend jeans. With a light brown over jacket and a brown purse to match. With white heels that made a statement to let people know she didn't play any games. "Hola Titi Addy, your favorite goddaughter is here." Sofia said as she held out her arms to the older woman. Addison smirked at the young girl and shook her head remembering the good times she had with the young woman's parents, seeing both of them in her.
Addison got up from her seat to pull the young girl into her arms ``Hey Sof, how are you? How's everything? How's your moms?" Addison asked. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm doing good, I came to visit my favorite aunt and Muy Bien." They break out of the hug "I'm doing alright, med school is a bitch"
"No one said it was easy" Addison tells as she sits back down in her chair.
"True but I'm going to get through slowly but surely. Neonatal is not easy but I know I was raised by the best." Sofia says as she gives props to Addison who smiles at her. "Then we have Zola who can tell you the inside of the brain and heart with no issue" Sofia continues to say "Mom is still in peds, could be retiring soon I'm not sure. And Mama well she'll update you when she comes down in two days for yours, Titi bailey's and mom girl night" Sofia says as she took her jacket and innocently smiled at her aunt.
"Is your mom okay?" Addison asked Sofia her eyes wide with concern
"She's fine," Sofi says as she looks out at the backyard.
"Sofia Robbin" Addison says young woman government causing her to slightly flinch
"Addison Adrienne" Sofia challenges her aunt by saying her government with a raised eyebrow
"Sloan Torres" Addison challenges back
"Forbes Montgomery" Sofia sings as she looks at her aunt with a smirk
"SOFIA!" Addison yelled at the young girl causing her to flinch.
"Mamá se retira del hospital para mudarse aquí."
"Sofia, dear lord, help me now."
"Okay, mama is leaving that hospital and moving here to be closer to her best friend"
"Ohhhh yay!" Addison cheered, Naomi and Addison haven't really talked over the years and she missed having her girl best friend around "why didn't she tell me on the phone"
"Ya know mama likes to tell you things face to face."
"But what about the hospital in New York"
"Yeah, she loves it but with me hardly not home and mom doing her own thing, she needs her person. So she's going to finish them at your practice"
"Que?"
"Yeah that's what she told me" Sofia says as she shrugged her shoulders "don't you just love how us sloan-torres just drop things onto you"
"I blame your father" Addison says as she chuckles and shakes her head.
"Mhm, about him. His anniversary is coming up."
"Yeah, which is going to be hard for mama"
"Has she talked to Arizona about it?" Addison asked the young girl.
"Mom doesn't get the dynamic between mama and him." Sofia says as she looks down at her feet "That's why she only takes about dad to you, Bailey, Meredith, Amelia, Alex, and Yang"
"Makes sense." Addisom takes the young woman hand and squeezes it "He would be proud of you"
"You think so?"
"I know so"
"I hear stories from you, Bailey, mama, Meredith and everyone else but it doesn't feel the same" Sofia says as she runs her other hand through her hair. "Mama gave me his shirts so I can at least have something of him. I'm glad he always took pictures with me. I have his picture as my Screensaver." Sofia says as she wipes a tear from her face.
"I'm going to tell you something that I never told you" Addison says as she looks at the young woman who suddenly looked like she was six "I told your father, he wouldn't be a good father"
Sofia narrowed her eyes at her godmom "Why did you say that to him?"
"During that time he was still immature as much as he wouldn't want to admit it. He needed something to help him mature." Addison says as she looks at the young woman. "Yet once I saw him with you, hearing him talk about you, and the pictures he would send to me of you. I knew he was still Sloan but a matured one. Yeah, he still cracked jokes here and there but if you were around suddenly that stopped." Addison says as she wiped a tear away from Sofia's cheek. "He was the best father to you. Yeah, I was pregnant by him but I wanted Derek's baby and I aborted the baby. In a way I'm happy that things turned out the way that they did. Im not happy he died. At the end he had someone who loved him dearly and gave him the beautiful baby girl and she grew up being the most wonderful woman. Your mom's done a good job with you, and I know you wish you had more time with him. But I know he's always watching over you." Addison says as wiped a tear from her eyes.
"Maldita tía Addie, ¿cuándo te volviste tan genial en los discursos?" Sofia asked her aunt in Spanish causing Addison to laugh.
"I learned over the years that the people I love are my everything." Addison says, answering her question.
"Ohhh your spanish has improved."
"Well ya know, I've been around your mom for so many years that I picked up on understanding it."
"Good but I was thinking of going into plastic surgery like dad," Sofia told Addison.
"Do you want to?"
"Honestly, I've been thinking about it. I don't want to disappoint you, if I didn't go down the same route you did."
"Honey, you wouldn't disappoint me at all. I understand that you wanna do something that brings you closer to your dad. " Addison tells Sofia "As much as I would love to brag about my niece, I'll be okay."
"Titi, you know you can always brag about me" Sofia says as she flipped her hair over shoulder.
"I know, I know." Addison tells the young woman.
"Look if it makes you feel better, I brag about you" Sofia says as she stands up from her chair
"Oh do you now?"
"Hell yeah, of course. Like I was showing my friends pictures of you and mom." Sofia starts to tell Addison "This guy was like who's the redhead. I said the one and only Addison Forbes Montgomery double board surgeon and that's my godmom by the way, he said she's hot, I told him boy bye you wouldn't know how to handle Satan if it bit you in the ass." Addison laughed at her old nickname after years of not hearing it.
"You did not" Addison says in-between her laughs.
"Yes I did. Then everyone was confused on why I called you satan. I said, "Blame uncle derek."" Sofia shrugs her shoulders "Look Titi I can't give them all the family nicknames, they're lucky they got satan"
"Yeah no in Seattle there was a new nickname everyday for someone" Addison states matter factly.
"Plus, Zola and I are definitely going back to Seattle. That's where our parents met and created friendships. We want the same." Sofia tells Addison.
"It was a transformation for me" Addison says as the various memories were floating around in her mind.
"Yeah, and look at where you are in life titi" The two glancing around at Addison home and property. Addison gave herself an invisible pat on the back for working hard in her life.
"You're right."
"I know, but we need to go shopping" Sofia says as she grabs Addison's hand.
"For what?" Addison asked the young woman.
"I'm making Arroz con Pollo for dinner" Sofia says as she drags Addison from her seat causing her to stand up and they start heading towards the house.
"Don't burn down my kitchen" Addison says remembering the last Sofia and Tuck cooked in her kitchen.
"That was Tuck not me" Sofia reassures Addison "And I don't burn water like he does. Who do you think makes his dates dinners when he invites them over?"
"Have they ever caught you?"
"Even though we love the drama." Sofia says thinking about it "Unfortunately no, even though I accidentally left my rings there because I take them off when cooking. I had to run back and get them." Sofia says as she starts smirking at the memory "Titi if only you can see the look on the girl's face when I run in then called Tuck a loser when i left."
"She doesn't know that yall grew up together and call each other family?" Addison says as they reach Addison's room and enter it.
"No, I don't think he mentioned it to her until one day" Sofia says as she sits on Addison's bed and sees her aunt go into the walk-in closet,"I was over at the apartment with Tuck, Ellis, Derek Bailey, Scout, Harriet, Leo, and Zola. She walks in and automatically gives me a stink look"
"Don't tell me you fought her in the apartment?" Addison asked from the closet.
"Tia, give me more credit than that." Sofia says pretending to be hurt "Zola was the one who went off."
"Zola?" Addison asked shocked as she stepped out of the closet wearing a new outfit.
"Yeah exactly, our sweet Zola tapped into her inner Sofia." Sofia says, sounding like a proud parent.
"What did the girl say?" Addison asked Sofia.
"Nada. She was dumbfounded, I was sitting on the couch smirking away and Tuck was just being Tuck."
"Now I gotta have a talk with Zola?"
"No Tia, we needed this character development from Zola. Yeah, she's a Shepard but I needed her to get in touch with her inner Grey" Sofia says as she stood up from the bed and outs both hands on Addison's shoulders. She shakes her head and says "Ya ready to go?" The two of them exit Addison's bedroom and head to her three car garage.
Addison and Sofia walked over to her red convertible. "We're taking Red?" Sofia says as she rubs her hand across the hood of the car, her eyes wide with anticipation.
"Yes, I haven't driven her in a while." Addison says as she gets into the car.
"I love her ... .So maybe for a graduation present?" Sofia gets into the car and smiles brightly.
I'll see because Henry is also begging for the car" Addison tells Sofia as she starts the car and puts it in reverse.
"Okay but just remember I'm your favorite."
"He's my son," Addison tells her as she shifts the car into drive.
"True but I'll just have to make a deal with him" Sofia says trying to figure out ways to get the car.
"Good luck"
"Oh he owes me, I hope he hasn't forgotten. " Sofia smirked cockly as Addison drove off into the direction of the supermarket.
The two ladies go to the supermarket and get the ingredients that Sofia will need to make Arroz con Pollo. The two laugh and sing while in the car back to Addison house. These were the moments she loved with Sofia. if you would've told her that she would be hanging out with her ex-lover daughter she would not believe you. She was even elated when Mark asked her to be godmother, she wasn't hurt that it didn't come from Callie yet Callie explained how they both each picked a godmother. Over the years the young woman in her car would made it a thing to call her aunt at least once or twice a week to update her on the daily drama in love, school and life. The secrets she shared with Addison before it hitted the ears of mothers showed how much she trusted the older woman. The guidance and wisdom that the older passed onto the younger woman was a work in progress but it stuck to her effectively.
The two reach Addison's house, grab the grocery bags and head to the kitchen. Sofia puts her phone into the speaker and Spanish music fills the kitchen as Addison sits at the island. Sofia went into the cabinet, grabbed two glasses, went into Addison's wine cellar and grabbed a bottle of wine. She puts both glasses onto the counter of the island and pours the red wine into the glass.
"Salud" Sofia and Addison say as they clink their glasses together. "And to Mark Sloan" Addison adds and Sofia repeats then they both take a sip. "Okay let me start cooking" Sofia says as she puts her hair into a messy bun then goes over to the grocery bags and puts the contents on the counter before moving to the sink to wash her hands.
As Sofia moves around the kitchen, Addison watches her move around. She smiled to herself seeing the young woman dancing as she was cooking in her own little world. In that moment she reminded her of Callie. The amount of times Callie would cook for her and music would be in the background as the Latina was cooking. Addison wasn't surprised that Sofia picked up the trait from her mother. Callie was the life of the party even if there wasn't a party. Everyone knew if Callie and Addison were together both would be up dancing. Sofia then flashed Addison a quick smile that reminded her of Mark, Sofia was charming and snarky yet she had a big heart. Which she got from both of her parents. Addison loves this girl like her own. She promised herself when Mark died that she would always be there for Callie and Sofia whenever they needed it. They might have been her ex-lover people but they were her people as well. She loved them very dearly and wouldn't replace either woman in her life.
"Titi c'mon and dance" Sofia says as she starts to dance to the merengue music.
Addison stands up and gets into the groove of the music. Memories of Callie and Addison dancing in the middle of the kitchen as the food was cooking while Sofia sat in her highchair watching from the island counter. She remembers when Mark and Arizona once walked in and caught the two dancing. Addison had Sofia in her arms while Callie was singing to her. Mark and Arizona would leave the trio in their world as they moved around it. She hears Sofia laughter as she claps to the music matching their rhythm. Callie taught Addison how to dance merengue, bachata and salsa and for that Addison was grateful because she wouldn't have moments like this which she enjoyed. Distance never changed their dynamic over the years and Addison was happy about that.
A few more songs played before Addison decided to sit. "I can't keep up with you anymore" Sofia laughed as she went over to the oven and checked the food. She got two plates from the cabinets, and started to put food onto the plates. She puts two spoons on the plates and puts one in front of Addison and sits next to her.
"Thanks Sofi, I appreciate it" Addison says as she takes a spoonful of food into her mouth.
"You're welcome, I gotta take care of my titi" Sofi says as she smiles at her aunt.
"The door is always open warrior" Addison says as she nudges Sofia shoulder with hers. She remembered giving her that nickname when she saved the young woman when she was a baby.
Sofia puts her head on her aunt's shoulder as she puts food into her mouth. Addison kisses her head and then continues to eat. Another memory comes to Addison's mind. She held Sofia as she ate dinner. Mark, Callie and Arizona would ask her multiple times throughout dinner if she wanted one of them to take Sofia and Addison would reply "no". The little girl reminded her of the baby she yearned for, the baby filled her happiness and gave her a purpose. It was unbelievable how fast those moments went but she made sure that she held onto every moment. Addison loved her goddaughter and she knew that she loved her too.
Let me know how you liked this chapter! I might write more if you enjoy it. I could do the flashbacks of those moments Addison was thinking about or new ones.
Review and Let me know.
