AN: This is not the first chapter of this story but rather just a part of my headcannon about Pokémon as well as an outline for some of this worlds basic mechanics that differ from the games and anime. This will be a mix of both the anime and the games with a lot of interpretation for how things will work and a lot more focus on aura. This chapter is subject to change and expansion depending on what is added further on in the story, all changes will be dated and stated.

Feel Free to just skip this chapter entirely and go forward onto the first chapter of the fic.

Pd for Pokédollars.

Pokémon, A wide term that applies to the many creatures that inhabit our world. There are hundreds of unique species of Pokémon each with their own traits and abilities able to channel the supernatural into and out of their bodies to perform incredible feats. In this world there are some Pokémon so powerful they can destroy countries in a fit of rage and others so weak they can barely move but all of them have incredible potential when trained properly. Living in that very same world there is a species so universally weak they can't hold up against even the weakest Pokémon no matter how much they train, but this species held one thing the Pokémon didn't, true intelligent co-ordination.

Now co-ordination may seem useless between creatures as weak as the humans for even a single Pokémon can erase entire settlements and they don't even seem to hold co-operation uniquely as between the many species of Pokémon there are several far more intelligent than the human who clump together and form small groups, but the humans move beyond just small groups. Together the small groups connect with other small groups to make larger groups which connect with larger groups to expand like a hive creating many settlements to hold an increasing population as with a high birth rate and the lowering death rate due to the safety brought by the groups, they develop tools.

As the humans continue to develop more tools eventually, they created a mechanical marvel propelling the world forward and it was called a Pokéball. The pokéball was a miraculous invention that when thrown at a Pokémon would 'capture' it inside and establish a level of mental control with the one who caught it. These first pokéballs were unreliable but cheap to make only requiring Apricorn's and a small amount of stone (later fashioned metal). These balls were quickly popularized and spread across the regions starting with Sinnoh and spreading out. These balls take advantage of the space-folding properties of the apricorn* to fit a Pokémon snugly inside of the folded space.

*Most Pokémon are member of the animalia kingdom with only a few exceptions such as Foongus or Sunkern, although even these Pokémon display many animal-like qualities. It is a common misconception that grass type Pokémon are plants, but most are not and simply adopt plant like features and body parts such as Bulbasaur. A few o true plants do manage to channel the supernatural aura into themselves such as berries with unique properties with regards to healing. The apricorn however folds space inside of itself to allow for the storage of a larger quantity of seeds of water. This can be augmented and was made into the first wooden Pokéballs.

These balls while revolutionary were not by any means a perfect process as the stronger and healthier a Pokémon is the easier it is for it to simply "break out" of the Pokéball it was captured inside. Once a Pokémon was captured inside of a Pokéball it is mentally bonded to the trainer who captured it allowing for the trainer to control it both verbally and to some degree mentally. This bond was not absolute and the stronger a Pokémon trainer the stronger the Pokémon they were able to command with anyone being able to control most bugs, while a Dragonite would simply flee or attack its trainer regardless of whether it was captured.

This led to the constant develop of the technology creating many new types specialized for all situations and Pokémon, but beyond that the influx of Pokémon allowed for the human settlements to expand and take more land. The legions of captured ground Pokémon cleared the land the raised materials, The strong fighting types fashioned these materials into houses and walls, the fire fashioned metal into useable material and so on.

Once humanity had settled there was no one big enemy in Pokémon as they were growing domesticated near towns changing the public opinion so there began to be infighting between regions with many great wars leading to the death of Hundreds of thousands of deaths both Pokémon and human. Eventually the governments of the regions formed treaties and alliances in an attempt to stop the fighting while many techniques were lost in the conflict.

In Kanto, the dogfighting continued people had got a taste of Pokémon battles and how rapidly their Pokémon grew stronger, so they created the gym challenge. A It was a set of 8 "gyms" built across the region each themed around a single type of Pokémon and training that kind of Pokémon while the youths of the region would set out as young as 14 to travel across the region capturing Pokémon for their personal team and challenging the gyms to grow stronger*.

It isn't just the Pokémon who grew stronger with training as the connection established between the trainers and their Pokémon while shallow at first only granted small improvements and changes to a persons physiology with the strongest among them changing significantly. This is most often showcased in the elite 4 and gym leaders of a region who specialize in a single type, of these the most well documented case is a member of the elite 4 who trained exclusively fish and gained slight webbed fingers and was able to hold his breath for over an hour.

This was a stroke of genius as it allowed for Kanto to train an incredibly large number of competent trainers to defend their region in the case one of the stronger Pokémon comes from their nest's deep in the wild and to solve the many issues that the smaller town's come across while they are travelling through the bounty system.

This system spreads across the other regions (except for Alola*)

After the third great war the island nation of Alola retreated away breaking its trade lanes and refusing to send ships, supplies or information across the water. The other regions consumed with conflict at the time didn't have the resources to re-establish trade lanes.

Over time this system has evolved, and Pokémon ownership has become widespread, with more people owning a Pokémon then not. In almost all regions it has developed into two levels, first the 8 minor gyms which are not televised or as popular. This is where Pokémon are trained and trainers assemble their teams similar to the original gym system although the final matches are often streamed and betted upon. This system works similar to a preliminary screening where the best trainer of a region and all of those with talent will clear the weaker minor gyms and be allowed a number of permits for an increased number of Pokémon allowed in storage and item permissions. The second set of gyms were available to those who completed the entire first gym circuit and is incredibly popular and televised across the region allowing for fame popularity and monetary gain. Those that clear all the gyms are known as elite trainers and are far and few between, but the 5 strongest of them all in each region are known as the champion and their elite 4.

Although the tradition of Pokémon gyms and a trainer's journey started in Kanto it is the biggest and brightest in no region other than Galar, with their Dynamax Pokémon making for giant attractions. In the Current time Pokémon training in Galar has never been bigger with giant televised stadiums, trainers streaming their journeys for live audiences and heavy advertising and support for new trainers to build a large support base and find talent.

Despite all this, roughly half of the region is almost completely wild with no human settlements creating a place for Pokémon to go and live while restoring their populations with the large numbers of Pokémon being caught for both commercial and battling purpose's. These wild area's have their own culture surrounding them and many rules and restrictions for entering them with their own currency Watt's*.

Energy in the Galar region is predominantly supplied by the usage of Pokémon to spin turbines or electric Pokémon to charge batteries although there is a second far more potent source of energy called Watt's (not to be confused with a 'watt' of normal energy), these are a by-product of Pokémon dynamaxing and suffuse the dens where wild Pokémon have created dynamaxed as well as the destruction of wishing stars (Stones infused with an extremely large amount of dynamax energy and can be used to channel said dynamax energy into a Pokéball to capture a dynamaxed Pokémon or release a dynamax of your own). These watt's can be collected in special batteries built into the Galarian Pokédex and newly designed Rotom phones to be exchanged for both goods and services within the wild area or sold to the Galarian league for a set rate of pokédollars (Pd)

Having so many children leaving on Pokémon journeys on their own has led to a far more nomadic culture where almost everyone goes on a journey of their own while being given support and a starter from their parents or the trainers school. Not everyone gets this opportunity with most trainers being caught a starter Pokémon by their parents or receiving one from the growing industry of trainer schools. The only issue with this system is the many people who are too poor to afford the price for pokéballs who then must beg and are in many cases unable to receive a starter of their own. These people find work hard as most industries won't hire non-trainers as they are physically weaker than most if not all trainers and can't protect themselves in the case of a Pokémon incident. This leads to a spiral of poverty in the slums of Galar where those without Pokémon are homeless and live between the factories and on the edge of the polluted rivers deep within Motostoke. This is an ignored issue pushed aside and hidden from the public eye so as not to dirty the leagues reputation with no help from the league to afford tuition or obtain a starter Pokémon.

In order to exit through the gates of Motostoke you must have an official trainer license or a citizen ID the same goes for purchasing many item's inside of Pokecentres or even using their facilities. These ID's are stored in your Rotom Phone or Pokédex (held by citizens that aren't trainers too).

In these slums the only way for anyone to escape out of this cycle of poverty is to either get enough money to buy a pokéball (Hard when you have no income and its always getting stolen) and using it to capture a single Pokémon to start you off but getting to that point is nigh impossible and weakening the Pokémon in order to capture it is nigh impossible. Even obtaining a license is difficult out there as many people can't afford to pay the fee for it and buying a Rotom phone or Pokédex is extremely difficult when you have no disposable income or no income at all.

AN: This is my first fic ever so try to be nice, although I would greatly appreciate all constructive criticism so I can make this better/make more sense.

Questions my friends asked:

Q. Why Galar?

A. Well Galar holds a special place in my heart, you see I can acknowledge that sword and shield weren't the best games in the franchise by a long way and had a lot of problems (Framerate, the dex, textures, the wild area(Not that the wild area was an issue but rather that it was heavily underutilized and could have been infinitely cooler), a rather short story, not a lot of post game, a very linear progression and so on so forth) but I feel like a lot of those could be greatly improved upon in a fanfiction because stuff like the linear progression can be explained away as 'The Pokémon league wanting a linear journey for a audience to follow along with' but if we add in a 'minor circuit' and a 'major circuit' then it solves that as the whole idea of an audience watching giant Pokémon battles is cool but at the lower levels it would be kinda lame. This also helps solve the linear progression as in my headcannon the wild area is ginormous and could take potentially weeks to cross with a super metro tunnel taking most people underneath it at super speed so you can have the whole region bigger with the minor circuit being placed in cool OC towns (I mean Original Creation not original character) somewhere else on the edges of the wild area. and that it continues all the way through Galar in one giant strip going from side to side. Within these circumstances Galar stands to be a hell of a lot cooler ya know.

Q. What is your characters start going to be?

A. Why don't you read and see?

Q. Why the bug themes?

A. Because my OC is going to be like a bug small, weak and mostly insignificant part of an extremely large group of a larger species most of which die without achieving anything but with his ambition he will 'evolve' and become a formidable and respected force. No I do not intend on having a bug focused team (sorta).
