Hyo Kan
*Snap* *Snap* *Snap*
I clicked my fingers by my side to the beat of my music, walking in tune with the rhythm of the drums. Suddenly, my feet stopped moving and I looked to my left to see a huge pillar of wind spinning violently towards the sky. After a couple of seconds, rain started to pour down on top of me as I ducked under a bus stop.
"Oi, Hyo, did you see that?" I turned to see my friend Kagame. He was a loyal guy, one that had stayed by me throughout the entirety of my school life.
"Yeah, I did. Do you think that was a villain?" I replied.
Kagame waved his hand. "Nah, there's no way. By the way, didn't you say you weren't taking the bus today?"
I sat down and quirked an eyebrow. "Yeah, I'm not. Just hiding from the rain."
He deadpanned towards me. "Then why are you sitting next to me?" He pointed my face outside of the glass. The glass of the bus window.
"Ah shit." I mumbled, quickly picking up my books and pressing the stop button. "Thanks for the lift!" I shouted back to hte bus driver, tagging off the vehicle back down the street.
"Shit, shit, shit! Kyoka's gonna lose it!" I quickly wrapped up my headphones and shoved them into my bag, ducking into the cafe where we were supposed to meet.
Kyoka was waiting there at a table, sipping a milkshake. "Haha hey! Crazy story Kyoka, there was this huge tornado and-"
"Hyo, this isn't working." She responded coldly, fiddling with the straw absentmindedly.
I quickly took a seat and placed my bag next to me. "What do you mean?"
"Today was supposed to be a night out between us. Since it was the last day of school. Not only did you get here–" She picked up her phone. "- 3 hours late, you came up with some lame excuse."
"It won't happen again, I promise!" I put my hands together and bowed but Kyoka sighed.
"No, there won't be a next time. I need to focus on the UA entrance exams, and there is no way I'm letting you mess this up. We're over." She picked up her bag and left.
My head swiveled around to watch her leave, but I only caught the pitying gazes of other patrons in my view. "Do you think this is some kind of drama?" I asked rhetorically, causing them all to turn away.
I picked up a pastry before paying the bill for my food and Jiro's drink. "Thanks!" I called out, walking out before the manager could give a response.
With my bag attached to my hip, I slowly reached into my pocket and plugged in my ear buds, slowly playing the air guitar as I imagined the artist doing the same.
*Now playing, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen*
I silently sang the lyrics to myself while walking towards the arcade, if Jiro wasn't with me, I wouldn't be held back right? I could do whatever I want!
'And yet, it's so boooring.' I stared at my reflection in the crane game's glass, not paying attention to the beeping sounds asking for a token.
"U-Um, excuse me." I looked to my left to see a young girl with bright red hair.
"Huh?" I responded.
"C-Can I please play the game?"
"O-Haha, yeah sure!" I backed off and lifted my bag onto my shoulder. 'Because nothing really matters…'
I slowly hopped between each of my feet in between piano key presses, being careful not to step on any cracks. I didn't really have a goal in mind, my Mum expected me home around 9, and it was only 6:30.
A lightbulb popped into my head. 'That's a good idea!' I thought, pulling out my phone and quickly opening google. 'UA entrance exam, I'll go and prove myself to her. So she can see what she's missing out on!'
I admired my own devilishness before turning off my phone and shoving it back in my pocket. 'Oh, the look on her face is gonna be priceless.' I thought, quickly making my way back home to write up a proper plan.
'The website says I have 10 months, that's plenty of time for me to bulk up!'
I turned off my music as I rubbed my shoes on the doormat, quickly heading up to my room before even saying hello to my mother.
I shut my door and pulled out a sheet of paper with a pen, quickly writing down my plans for the next few months, my 'training arc' so to speak.
'Well, I need to be physically strong, and I'm not that right now. Another thing I need is intelligence!' I scribbled the two things down on my page. 'My quirk, I need to train it somehow. And then, I need to innovate it!'
My quirk: Rhythm, was quite simple in writing, but incredibly complicated in real life scenarios. All I needed was to hear a song, and as long as I moved to the beat, or the 'tempo' I would progressively grow stronger. If I used it for too long, I would get a headache or a torn muscle or whatever.
The complicated part comes in with my selection of music. To effectively make use of my quirk, I need to be ready with a new playlist for the fight, because if I'm not enjoying the sounds, I'll block them out naturally.
I constantly have to innovate and change my playlist for each new day, and it gets tedious to say the least. Another restriction is, my body needs to be capable of handling the constant tempo switch or the strength I'm gaining, because, by my calculations, for each time I miss a tempo, I lose approximately 80% of my previous stacks. That would be mega bad in a fight, going from superhuman to athlete level in a millisecond.
My fingers flicked the page into half and I shoved it into my desk, standing up to face my mirror. I had purple hair in a ponytail, with jasper eyes and a sharp chin. Pretty handsome in my opinion. I struck a pose before taking off my shirt and inspecting my figure, lightly poking at my stomach.
'Ah, that's no good.' I thought, watching my finger sink into my belly. 'I haven't been eating properly lately.' I remembered the pastry from earlier in the evening and began to salivate before I shook my head.
'No! Only chicken and vegetables from now on!' I smirked, stretching my back until I faced my door, where my little sister had walked in. "How long have you been standing there?"
A devilish smirk spread over her face as she shut the door and ran down the stairs. "Mum! Hyo's doing weird stuff in front of his mirror again!"
I swung open my door. "The hell I was!"
"Hyo honey, I told you to stop doing that. You won't get any more muscular by staring at your stomach. Go do some exercise instead."
I blushed and peered my head down the stairs. "Real supportive Mum!" I slammed my door shut.
"That's what I'm here for honey!"
I swung back into my chair and stared at my plans, my plans for success. I scribbled down a couple more ideas before grabbing a ball of putty and sticking the page to my door, right where I could see it.
Prologue Complete.
