Amira had taken the role of hero seriously. After putting her little sister to sleep and doing her homework, she'd take a few hours to go on patrol. A fact that she learned about the Mirculous Squad is that none of them came out after 8pm or went out on patrol. It was strange she used to accept that as fact as she assumed the heroes had lives out of superheroing, but now this wasn't the case. She'd seen them running across rooftops or taking photos before but it seemed like they were more like costumed attractions for people to gawk and awe over.

She started doing more patrols during the night so she wouldn't run into any of them. Not only did she get to rough up some muggers/criminals but there was a tranquility to seeing the city at night. She was taking a break, leaning against a chimney and looking out towards the bright stars and lights that flickered from various buildings.

"What a view. I don't know how someone could get bored of this." Miss Chance internally groaned as she heard the familiar voice of Carnivore Reign.

"What do you want, tiger?"

"What? I can't stop by and see my favorite bug?"

"I'm busy, doing patrol." She stood up and faced the tiger hero, "Not that you would know what that is, since you and your squad can't get off your lazy butts."

"Of course, little Miss Chance is doing her heroic duties. It's one of your many talents." He purred.

"Are you just here to annoy me?"

"No, actually I thought I would try my luck again to convince you to join the Miraculous Squad. Our manager very much wishes to meet you and is offering a spot among our ranks."

"And my response is the same as before: no."

"Really? I thought you would be more hesitant, considering how overwhelmed you seem the last few days." He smirked, "The solo act not working out for you, bug?"

"Me overwhelmed?" She laughed, walking towards him."Seems like you and that dysfunctional group you call a team are the ones overwhelmed. Or did you think no one would notice how distracted the Miraculous Squad has been lately?" She had seen how their popularity had fallen. Many were still loyal to the MS but some were starting to notice and point out certain cracks. She may or may not fuel said flames anonymously, but since becoming Miss Chance she had begun to see past her own rose colored glasses. She might as well do the same for others.

"Well, I may have been a little distracted, but I can't help it when a vision of beauty like yourself finds her way into my territory."

"Charming, you say that to all the girls, kitty?"

He leaned in close, lifted her chin with his golden claw, forcing her to look up at him. Her strong pur white gaze met his alluring gold stare. She was grateful he couldn't see her hazel eyes, they would be terrified.

"Only to the cute and bold heroines like you." He smirked, showing off his fangs to the spotted girl. At this range, she could see how his usually sharp pupils were now dilated, focused solely on her. His other hand was around her back, holding her close to him.

"You really have an ego, don't you?"

"Guilty, but picture it Chance. You and me as the power couple of Paris, everyone looking at and up to us. Our spots and stripes would look good together wouldn't they?" Oh, he wants to play that way, huh?

"Sure, but you forget something, your highness." He purred as her fingers grazed his cheek. "Ladybugs are just as much predators as tigers are."

She punched him in the face and then kicked him in the crotch for good measure. He stumbled back a few feet, cradling his bruised face and ego.

"Why don't you take your offer and shove it up your ass?" Miss Chance glared at him, "I'm not some doll you can just walk around town with or a trophy to show off. If you're so desperate for a girlfriend, why don't ask Honeycomb or Mischief? They seem pretty eager to get in your pants."

He coughed then let out a laugh, "You sure about that, Missy? You wouldn't last a week without us."

"I don't need you or your little squads' help!" She went to kick him in the face, only for him to catch her foot before it made contact. He let his claw linger on her before she pulled it away quickly.

The two holders circled each other, Miss Chance taking out her yoyo while Carnivore Reign flexed his golden claw in a 'bring it' motion. The two began to fight along the rooftops, he took on a more offensive front while she was on the defense.

"I'm surprised you haven't used Clout yet." She used her yoyo as a shield against his swipes

"Please, I know better than to use it carelessly." He threw some punches her way.

"Oh, so nearly taking out two kids with it during Mother May I wasn't being careless?"

"I didn't know they were there and even if I did, you could've just brought them back."

"My cure isn't an excuse for you to be reckless!" She shouted, bringing down a right hook to his face, "I will not have anyone's deaths on my conscience, especially when I could've saved them."

"Casualties are a part of the job, sweetheart." Carnivore growled, "The sooner you learn that, the sooner you get with the program."

"If you truly believe that, then you have less brain cells than I thought."

Soon enough, she had him pinned to a chimney, using her yoyo as a way to wrap his hands together. Both breathing heavily, their masks nearly touching, and their

"I didn't think you were that kinky~" The tiger miraculous holder purred, loving how close her face was to his own.

"Maybe a few hours will give you time to cool off." Miss Chance smirked, stepping back from the tangled up tiger hero, "I've got to keep patrolling, so I'll be back in a few hours…maybe."

"Are you serious?!" His arrogant smile dropped into fury, "You aren't going to really leave me like this, are you?!" Carnivore Reign shouted as he struggled against his restraints.

Miss Chance ignored his pleas and walked away, feeling smug at her victory over him.

After what felt like hours, his voice gave out and he felt the yoyo disappear, leaving him to complain about his sore wrists. Then he began to laugh.

"You want to play? Fine, let's play." He said as he ran off into the night.

"Miss Chance and Carnivore Reign, Paris' new superhero couple?!" Amira nearly choked on her lunch at Lucia's exclamation. The front cover of the article was of Miss Chance and Carnivore Reign on the same rooftop in an intimate position right before their brawl. The photographer clearly didn't see her giving him a right hook and kicking him where the sun didn't shine. Or maybe they just wanted a nice shot of Paris' heroes.

"Aren't you happy? She did save your life?"

"Well, yes, but-but everyone knows Honeycomb is Paris' star heroine!" Lucia huffed, "This article is clearly filled with lies!" Amira didn't think she would ever agree with Lucia, but here she was nodding along with her,

"Looks like she won't hold that spot for long."

Lucia stormed off, clearly not okay with whatever the article had to say.

"Man, people will fish for any kind of gossip these days." Amira said with disgust as she read the article.

"I don't know, they look pretty cozy to me." Arielle peeked at the picture, "Unless Miss Chance or Carnivore comes out and says otherwise, all we got is this picture and looks like it's going to spread like wildfire."

Amira realized Arielle was right, Miss Chance needed to say something before this got out of hand.

An explosion interrupted her thoughts and she turned to see an akuma attacking in a nearby classroom. It was a girl wearing all pink with broken hearts on her dress, black ink streaked down her eyes like tears, and her face was in a permanent smile. The ribbons around her arms, torso, and hair bow acted like tendrils, slithering and moving across the floor.

"Please stop! Just let me explain!" In one of her ribbons, a boy was wrapped and being suffocated in its tight grip.

"But we're perfect together~" The akuma said in a sing songy voice, "I know you feel the same way, I just need to squeeze it out of you!"

"Come on, we need to hide." Arielle turned to Amira, but saw she was already running in the opposite direction.

"An akuma based off love?" Amira whispered to Tikki as they hid behind a classroom door. "As if I have enough problems with being paired with mr. stripes."

"Humans see smoke and they expect fire to follow." Tikki had centuries of holders with love issues.

Well I'm about to smother this flame." She grinned, "Tikki, spots on!"

"I-love you! There I said it!" The boy's voice was slowly being taken from him as he struggled to breath.

"I don't believe you, you're lying." She started to squeeze harder, until a yoyo flew out of nowhere and pulled the boy out of her grasp.

"Haven't you heard of consent?" Miss Chance appeared, putting herself between the akuma and her victim. "You can't make someone love you through force."

"But-but he-he said he loved me." Her voice quivered, "I thought I was special, but then I saw him with that girl!" Her sadness turned to rage.

"It-it wasn't like that, Cora!" The boy tried to shout over the blows, "We were just acting!"

"LIAR!" She attacked them using her ribbons.

"Heartbreak hurts, I get it." Amira used her yoyo to dodge the ribbons, "But taking it out on others, it isn't going to make the pain go away."

"You're just like her, trying to take him away from me!" Seems like there was no use trying to persuade her.

"Hold on tight." Miss Chance grabbed him and swung off, she could hear the enraged and ferallike roars of the akuma behind them.

"So you want to tell me what her deal is?"

"I'm part of the drama club, I'm also the male lead in an upcoming performance. I was rehearsing a kiss scene with the other female lead and-"

"Let me guess? Your girlfriend saw and she jumped to cheating." This was why Amira didn't do relationships, too much drama for her.

"She's a good person and an amazing girlfriend, but…she's been cheated on before by her previous boyfriend." That made sense, doubt can crawl into a person's mind and poison their thoughts from within. "I would never cheat on her, she's the only one for me."

"That's very sweet, but I don't think she's going to listen now." Miss Chance swung down to a concealed alley. "Stay hidden and out of sight. Do you have any idea where the akuma could be?"

"Let me think…" The boyfriend thought for a second then his eyes widened, "Her hairbow."

"Hairbow?"

"Yes, I gave it to her as a present just a few days ago." He explained, "She likes designing accessories and I thought she would like it."

"Thank you, you have been helpful, stay safe and head to the nearest shelter." The heroine sprinted off, pulling out her yoyo to track the akuma. News reports and civilian videos led her to the nearby park where the akuma was destroying everything and anything she could get her ribbons on.

"Where is he?! I need to find him!"

"Hey, baby bug." Oh great, not him. Carnivore Reign was leaning against a tree, boredly browsing on his phone.

"Are you going to help me or just take a cat nap?"

"Why should I? I mean you made it very clear you didn't need my help last night." He wore that smug annoying smirk on his face, "But if you were to accept my offer…"

"I would rather dive into acid than be your girlfrien-AH!" She got hit in the stomach by one of the ribbons and went flying into a tree. Her head was spinning as she was grappled by several of Heartbreaker's ribbons.

"Nowhere left to run."

"Sorry." Miss Chance kicked her in the stomach, which sent her flying into a nearby fountain.

"Could you at least help with civilians?" She eyed the tiger miraculous holder who was watching the battle unfold from his hiding spot.

Carnivore began to think, "Hmmm, no. And if you're wondering about the rest of my squad, I told them to hang back and let me take care of it."

"Fine, don't help, kitty."

"Stop calling me that." She wasn't fazed by his golden glare.

"I'll stop once you drop the baby bug."

He scoffed, "Fat chance, Chance."

"Give him back to me!" Heartbeater was now soaked and enraged.

"Lucky Charm!" Out of the air, a hook with a rope attached to it.

"Good luck, baby bug~" Miss Chance had half a mind to hang him by the hook herself. Whatever, she didn't need him.

The ladybug heroine stood confidently as Heartbeater disappeared to reveal a scared and confused teenage girl dressed in a fashionable pink outfit.

"W-what happened? I-"

"I believe this belongs to you." Miss Chance handed her bow back to her.

"Oh, no. What am I going to do? He probably hates me and thinks I'm-"

"Cora!" It was the boy from before, running towards her with a worried look on his face. 'Are you okay?"

"I-I'm sorry! I was just so scared and then I saw you and her and I thought-" She sniffed.

Miss Chance offered a hand, "I understand your fear, being betrayed by someone you thought loved you can make anyone blind. But talking it out with your partner or a therapist can help."

"Besides I don't think Eliza likes me that way or any guy for that."

"What do you mean?"

"She has a girlfriend."

Cora went red as her boyfriend gently coaxed her away from the park.

"They're cute together, not as cute as us though." Carnivore Reign teased.

"Still not going to drop this, are you?" She clench her fists in frustration..

"I'll win you over, I always do."

"Too bad, the only thing I feel for you is hate."

He gave her a fanged scowl, "Right back at ya, baby bug."

Miss Chance wanted to scream at him as he jumped off, but kept her mouth.

"Did you see that? They really are a couple." She could hear some passerby's whispering to each other.

"I knew it! MissReign for life."

"No, it's CarniChance."

Oh god, people were already shipping them. Amira wanted to hide in a void and never come out.

"Hello? Is it rolling?" A sweet feminine voice moved the camera around for a few seconds before putting it on straight, "Oh, there we go."

A girl with pigtails sat in front of the camera, it focused on her smile. "Hello, my name is Marinette Dupain Cheng and if you are seeing this, then I am dead."

"I'm making this video in the event of my death. " Her cheerfulness wavered, but she held on,."I know now that with the Miraculous Cure, injuries and death seem like a passing thought, but…I rather not take that chance if it fails." She took a deep breath before speaking more, "...I am Ladybug or, I was Ladybug."

"I know it seemed unlikely to those who know me: clumsy awkward Marinette? A superhero?" She laughed, "As much as I want to deny it, it's true. It feels good to get it off my chest to be honest." Her shoulders relaxed, relieving herself of the burden even if it was just for a moment.

"Anyway, the real reason behind this video is to pass on my knowledge as a miraculous holder to the next guardian. I won't say it out loud, but if you are indeed watching this, I'm sure you found this video along with the miraculous box." She gave a knowing wink to the camera as if she could see the person on the other side of the screen.

"I do have some information that will be important for you in the event of my death." Her smile disappeared and her gaze turned stone cold. "Do not trust Chat Noir."

"Yes, he is my partner and my first teammate when it came to the fight against Hawkmoth. Yes, he is the holder of the Black Cat miraculous, The counterpart of the Ladybug Miraculous. But that doesn't excuse his behavior." She said with the same voice she used as Ladybug, emanating the heroine in her civilian form, "He is not worthy of the miraculous, he does not take this responsibility seriously. Countless times, he has left me to fight on my own after I rejected him multiple times, then pouting and getting mad like a child."

"He claims we are soulmates, that 'our love is meant to be." She said with quotation marks, "That's not true. Through research of the miraculous and from the kwami themselves, I have found evidence of ladybugs and black cats forging relationships with other miraculous holders and even civilians. The black cat is meant to balance out the Ladybug, but that does not mean they are meant to be together."

"In the event of my death, I implore you–no I beg you to take Chat Noir's miraculous away from him. He can not be allowed to hold onto the miraculous any longer without me to reign him. Master F-I mean the previous guardian may have made the decision to give it to him, but Chat Noir is no longer a suitable fit for the black cat."

"I also have a list…" She rummaged around her desk before turning back to the camera, "Of other holders that can not be allowed to come back." She looked down at the list then looked back up at the camera. "Rena Rouge, Carapace, Queen Bee, and the other current temporary holders can not be allowed to be holders again."

"Again, I know that this seems unfair but with their identities revealed during the events of Miracle Queen as well as personal matters." Marinette looked disappointed and frustrated, "They can not be trusted and I can not let them run around with such power especially when they are at risk from Hawk Moth. In this list are the identities of the temporary heroes so you know who to avoid." She folded it up, "This will be next to this video and the Miracle Box."

"One last thing before I sign off, whatever you do, whoever you choose, do not take revenge against Lila Rossi." Marinette spat out her name like it was poison, "I know with how things are going that you have every right to take her out, but that is not justice. Revenge is an ocean that will only drown you in its depths. I have had to stop myself from diving into such waters. Please, promise me you will not abuse the miraculous for revenge, we must be better, we can not give in especially with Hawkmoth watching our every emotion. I have evidence that will bring her down once and for all, I just need time."

"Anyway with that, this is my last message to you and I hope to meet you in the next life." The video was paused at Marinette's smiling face.

Chrysalis gazed at her then the crumpled up piece of paper in her hand. Marinette's handwriting was still clear beneath the creases. She had only found the list and the video in the hidden box in the girl's room. It was only later that she found out where the Miracle Box had gone, it was in the hands of that murderer. Marinette may have jumped, but she knew it was Lila who pushed her to the edge.

It had taken her by surprise, seeing a new ladybug holder, but it was inevitable. There would always be a Ladybug to fight against evil, a never ending cycle filled with pain and suffering.

"I'm sorry, Marinette." She said as she looked at the pigtailed girl's face, "I can not keep that promise, not after what she has done to you, to us. I can't let them get away with this, they have to pay, they must pay. And if Paris falls because of it? So be it." She readjusted the brooch, her gaze on the former Ladybug's face.

She may drown herself in revenge like Marinette said, but she had nothing left to lose.
