The Past: Part 2

It was nothing but silence within the class majority of the day, other than the annoying sounds of the birds chirping away outside the window that Amilia continuously stared at. She couldn't get that guardian, Navi, off her mind from earlier this morning.

"Thank you." Amilia said with a small smile, turning around as she came to a halt a bit away from the door of her class to face Navi who placed the rest of her books upon the two she carried in her arms to begin with before placing both hands into the pockets of his robe.

He seemed to say nothing more, but she could see that subtle concern in his eyes like he knew something, so she just decided to just make her way to class as she turned her back to him after thanking him for the day as she was not taking fondness of all the angel's eyes watching her being with a guardian.

"And Amilia…" Navi's voice approached her as she was about to enter the classroom, she came to a halt as she directed her attention at him, she only gave him a confused expression.

"If you ever need some help on that work of y-" Navi began only to be cut off immediately as Amilia had already run up all sparkled eyed into his face, "A tutor!?" She quickly assumed, this surprised Navi as directing towards this normally upset or made people feel bad like they needed someone superior to assist them, a low life.

Amilia noticed his surprised expression, but more so that he slightly leaned back realizing how close she actually got up to him and despite this, he didn't bother fully backing off, this immediately frightened her knowing why and the mistake she made, quickly backing off.

He only gave her a subtle smile, "Look, I'll be in the library all day, even after school hours before heading back. You're welcome to stop by if you want some help on that homework of yours." Navi said, pointing behind him a little as he did so in indication before he took his leave, leaving Amilia with a decision.

A loud yell had interrupted the silence, or more so Amilia's thinking after what Navi offered several hours ago this morning. It was Mrs. Mu who was trying to grasp one of the students' attention after dozing off during a test, yes you heard right, all day was just a test today that Amilia knew she had failed like always despite finishing pretty early.

"Jackson! Doze off again and it'll be more than just a solid F on that paper!" Mrs. Mu growled, pointing a pencil at the poor boy who woke up suddenly in a fright to have his test paper quickly taken away, marked with the usual F she had threatened him with.

Mrs. Mu was the type of teacher that was always having the veins pop out somewhere from seriousness or anger, and overall the type that claims she excuses you, not the bell. This only left Amilia questioning even more, rumors have gone around that Mrs. Mu's guardian was nicer than herself and that 'he' was with her for thousands of years, even some say that they were even together, lovers.

Despite all these rumors, rumors were just rumors, they weren't always true but it sure did leave her curious and just wanting to know the answers right away without having to find them on her own all the time.

Thanks to Jackson pulling off a snooze, the whole class was left to stay an extra ten minutes after the end bell that announced the end day of schooling, or at least studying. Anyone who attempted to doze off themselves again or even close their eyes would add on a five minutes to aftertime and Mrs. Mu was great at noticing this due to her magic apparently, even if you looked away and closed your eyes for a few seconds she would smack that extra time on.

After finally being released within the after minutes of twenty five overtime, Amilia quickly made her way towards the library, remembering the guardians offer and figured she would take him up on it. She could honestly use the help and teachings considering no one else was going to help her out anyway. It seemed the only way to achieve that was by being a goody two shoes and joining the bad ones.

Upon entering the library, she had forgotten how huge this place was, including the library itself, she honestly wondered how she even remembered her way around the building let alone her own class and dorm room, then again it was a back and forth daily routine for the past several years of the same thing.

Upon peering through the large door into the library, Amilia only gave a small annoyed sigh, seeing the dozen staircases that led up to the second and third levels of the building, or to be exact, more within the library levels for more books. This entire school felt more like a mansion built into the actual school building than it did an actual school with teachings and learnings.

Amilia had to wander around the majority of the library with her own stack of books from today's work. The library was surprisingly somewhat active as she noticed some angels who had found some books to read and research into, sitting at the comfortable sofas and tables that rested about the library itself, and of course, majority of these angels were one's that had previously had their past fun with her.

Amilia only ignored them as they sternly glanced, and directed their attention at her as she walked by in search for Navi. Hugging her books closely, she ignored them and continued onward. Eventually she came across an opening area with many couches and a table in the center, along with the familiar seemingly sleeping guardian on one of the couches with a book over his face.

This… honestly left her confused. Was he this trusted to stay here and even fall asleep? She understood the categories of bonding types with guardians and angels, there has been no recorded 3rd category angel so far, so he wasn't really at risk at all.

Approaching, Amilia sat down all her books onto the table before inching closer to him. God he was gorgeous, even though he was the first up close guardian she's seen in her life, he was by far the most gorgeous compared to all the angels she's seen for sure.

"Navi…?" She started, unsure if it was okay to touch or be so close to him or not. Last thing she wanted was to be in huge trouble from the higher ups for accidently bonding with a guardian. Despite her attempt in waking him with her weak voice, he seemed rather out of it, it honestly sorta reminded her of herself with the lack of sleep.

"Wake your ass up you lazy guardian!" A voice approached, spooking Amilia and even Navi as he was smacked with a sudden book, causing him to shoot upward in a small panic and Amilia to fall back a little.

"The hell!" Navi snapped, placing a hand to his cheek as peering behind him at a familiar girl who stood behind the couch, smirking. "Well hello there! You must be Amilia, yes?" She questioned, using her free hand to push up her glasses.

"Uh… yes, ma'am?" Amilia replied, uncertainly. "You may call me Mrs. Marry! I'm the new librarian teacher here. Well almost not new anymore, been here a few months." She said with a small shrug, "Oh darling. Don't be afraid to be close to him, let alone touch him. You won't bond." She added, standing up straight as she did so.

This left Amilia confused as she glanced at Navi who seemingly gave a small pout, simply rubbing his cheek after the smack. "Not unless he accepts you of course, but if he does… there will be consequences." Marry said, placing a hand to her hip and looking down at Navi.

"Yeah yeah… I know the rules for the hundredth time." He remarked with a small attitude, receiving another smack to his head from Marrys hand. "What did I say about that attitude and falling asleep in my library?!" She stated sternly, causing Navi to slump down in reaction and only give more of an attitude.

Releasing a sigh, Marry glanced back at Amilia. "If I may ask how you know him?" She questioned, "He offered to help me with my work…" Amilia responded hesitantly a little. "Oh, did he now?" Marry began, looking down at him and his tucked close wings.

"Is it… against the rules?" Amilia asked, twiddling her fingers together as she sat there on the floor unsure. "Oh deary. There's no rule about relieving tutoring help, so long as he isn't doing your work for you." Marry said with a wave of her hand in reassurance along with a small laugh, she found it funny how Navi was suddenly offering help to an angel of all people, he normally came here for just the library and its books about angels' history.

This seemed to relieve Amilia as she looked up, a smile on her face. No one has been this kind to her, and now suddenly since a guardian showed up and helped her, things were positively happening today.

"You're bullied, no?" Navi asked, receiving a concerned look from Marry and a surprised one from Amilia as he looked at her seriously. Amilia lowered her head shamefully, folding her hands together as she did so.

"Ever since word got out… about me seemingly having no magical capabilities as an angel…. People saw me as the lowest of low ranked angels, weakest.." Amilia admitted, as much as she hated to do so, but what was the point hiding it when it'd be found out anyway quickly by all other angels. And now if a librarian and guardian here in front of her wanted to shame her too… then it can't be helped.

Marry wanted to say some things but didn't as she glanced at Navi, this was a new generation of angels and guardians. Their actions are what would prove them here, bonds were formed for reasons, they were never performed drastically or without reasons. To this day its still unknown how most bonds work, some say its with sorts of compatibility with magical powers, interests, or other things entirely.

"And?" Navi stated, causing Amilia to look up at him confusingly. "Just because you seem powerless, doesn't justify anything." He started, pointing at her as he did so, a smile forming on Marrys face.

"What…?" Amilia asked, a little confused but also surprised he wasn't out right attacking her due to it like everyone else. "What he means is that you're not alone dear. I've been with this school for centuries now, moving around back and forth with different tasks and assignments and I'll tell you this. You're not the first or only angel who seemed powerless at first, it's either dormant or a late show." She said with reassurance.

"I once knew an angel like you, after many years of schooling and training. They became a powerful angel with a powerful guardian companion. It just takes time dear." She added, smiling at Amilia before down at Navi who seemed a little upset for being interrupted.

"I'm aware… it's just.." Amilia started, sloping down again in sadness. This made Marry and Navi confused, "I keep having the same question occur everyday… and I'm starting to wonder if I even want to be an angel…" she began, looking at Navi as she did so.

"What's the purpose? We gain more than the guardians when a bond is performed… you guardians lose advantages when bonded, it just feels… unfair for you all… so why do you guardians still choose to be with an angel if it only results in deformities?" She added, forming a confused but also somewhat surprised look when Navi simply smiled.

"That's easy. Because we don't feel alone. A bond is more than just powers or faults, it's a relation between the two. We're dutied to protect our angel no matter what, and sure… we get sick when separated, receive the same injuries as our angel and die if our angel dies when it's nothing like the other way around for the angel." Navi stated, shrugging a bit as he did so.

"We're powerful alone, we don't receive those faults if not bonded. But…" He started, glancing at Marry who only smiled, rather proudly. "We gain a companion we can commit to, and trust. We're crucial to angels, and what do we gain out of it? Nothing really…" He added.

"All we want is someone to trust and be close with in the end, really we do in a way gain one thing when bonding…" He started once more, directing his eyes back to Amilia who looked at him rather surprisingly but also curious as she wanted to know what that was already, even if it was one little advantage in the bondage for the guardian, then maybe it wouldn't seem so bad.

"What is it?" She asked, rather intrigued and perked up about it. She wasn't the greatest angel sure, but she did enjoy stories and facts about a lot of things really in the end. It was nice, it really was nice hearing all this being explained to her by the top guardian in the school.

"Sustainment." Navi said finally, Amilias expression dropped some as that word immediately confused her. "Guardians are powerful beings alone, what would be a reason they'd want to bond with an angel dear?" Marry asked, something that would be asked in future tests as well.

"Control…?" Amilia tried simplifying the meaning of the word. Marry only smiled at her, a small giggle being released in the process. "Almost. Angels gain power when bonded, and control over the guardian. But the guardian gains sustainment which is like a power node to prevent power loss of their own abilities that could risk sudden and random power imbursements." Marry added.

"I'm still lost…" Amilia said a little unsure, shrinking a little as she hated sounding dumb. "Think of a tie. Without a bond, the tie is broken…" Navi started, relaxing back on the couch and kicking his feet up onto the table. "In half. Guardians alone without a bond are strong, sure, but the reason we need an angel ourselves is because our powers can implode inside of us one day." Navi added, looking her down as he was rather serious.

"Implode?" Amilia asked, Tilting her head some. "Lose control to the point it can harm and damage even yourself." Navi said, making it more clear to her now but even so it still seemed she was rather confused? Or just unsure? He couldn't make sense of her really as he gave her an odd look, he didn't know how to make it any simpler than that.

"Still not making sense…?" Navi asked, receiving a look from Amilia who seemed lost in thought of sorts. Saying that only seemed to perk her up suddenly and snap out of it, at this point Marry took her leave to help some students who arrived while Navi explained.

"Oh-! No no! Sorry… I just think that's, still unfair…" Amilia admitted, hating to do so but it was reality and couldn't be helped really. To think angels grew in power and control over their guardian, only for the guardian in return to receive sustainment and stability of their power to prevent it from imploding one day without a bond while angels were fine alone.

In the end it was a back and forth need or want whether either of them liked it or not it seemed. Guess it just… was something at least for the guardians, though Amilias thoughts once more were interrupted.

"Depending on the guardian and angel. We can break from an angels demands and not be told what to do either." Navi added, giving her a small smile as he did so and Tilting his head a little to look at her slumped one from thinking. "So… in a way it's not too bad for us." He added, shrugging a tad as he did so.

"Depending?" She asked, reaching up and grabbing a notebook. God she really should be noting and writing all this down and that's what she planned on doing now before pulling out a pen from her small bag.

"Whomever is stronger, mentally." Navi stated, pointing to his head in the process. "It's an 'command' so it's triggered through narrow brain cells and nerves. Just like a dog and its bond with its human." He said, pushing himself forward and off the couch as he stood up, releasing a large stretch and yawn.

Amilia was silent for the most part, all this… and she didn't know any of it nor was she taught it in her class, yet at least. It was all just so… exciting honestly, learning all this new stuff about guardians with how the bondage would work in some parts.

Widening her eyes, Amilia immediately took notice of Navi who was now crouched down in front of her at her level. Rather… close to say the least. That same gentle smile he had on his face as his large gorgeous wings were tucked closely to his back, folded neatly.

What surprised her the most was him turning and offering his hands out at her, they were large and only had 3 fingers but in a way they looked soft and gentle. He was a mutant after all… all guardians were usually mutants of their own type of species, human guardians were rare but they existed.

Should she really… be this close to him, let alone touching him. Sure, she heard what Marry said but anything could happen honestly and she sure as hell didn't want to get in trouble with the higher ups for a random bonding happening with a guardian when it was against the rules, heavily.

"It's okay, Amilia." Navi said softly, with reassurance. He knew she was in a decision wheel right now because of the rule, but he was a 2nd category and allowed over for reasons. No 3rd category has appeared in years and there were special scans to indicate category types of both sides, otherwise if there was a 3rd category angel, he wouldn't be allowed over here or even near that said angel.

Hesitantly but slowly and surely, Amilia raised her hands as she released the notebook and pen against her lap. Amilia couldn't help but release a small breath of happiness upon feeling the sensation of her skin touching his, resting her hands above his as this was her first time ever interacting with a mutant in general, let alone guardian.

"See… no bond happening." Navi reassured, receiving a rather cheerful and very happy expression from Amilia. Wow… he never expected an angel to be this, excited? To simply just being able to touch a guardian for the first time ever, it was really no different than interacting and touching with others, but guess everyone believed and saw things differently, or felt differently.

Amilia couldn't resist as she released a giggle, looking up at him with sparkles in her eyes. This confused Navi, but also surprised him as in a way he knew this wasn't anything good, sorta… since she's done this before in a way.

"Can I touch your wings?!" She asked, almost immediately. This most definitely, like he assumed, surprised him for sure as he simply stared at her baffled a little. Well that was quick… and unexpected to say the least.

Unfortunately, as much as he wouldn't honestly mind it. He had a soft spot on his wings that he didn't want touched right now, as it tended to put him to sleep as much as he hated to admit it. Plus… they were here right now for one thing and that was tutoring.

"Maybe another time... Remember, you're here for help." Navi said, removing his hands away from hers before sitting down, giving her his usual soft innocent smile. This caused Amilia to immediately halt and realize how right he was, jumping a little as she did so.

"Oh my- you're right, I'm sorry!" She said almost instantly, he knew she was just fascinated with him since angels and guardians weren't allowed to meet this closely until everything school wise had been completed on every student as the finals were a result of confrontation, the time to meet and choose your guardian and choose your angel.
