It was the final murder that made no sense. There was no motivation for it, and the whole investigation had Marin struggling for breath at every discovery, and every glance sent them spiralling back into panic.
Emma had died.
Marin, of course, was the top suspect for a while, but was quickly written off by everyone else when they found them wheezing in an empty corridor and ugly sobbing their heart out.
Emma may have been their least favorite character, but Marin didn't want her to die, they didn't want her gone.
The trial was the worst part. Because out of everyone still there, Marin could never have guessed that the murderer was MK.
They voted for MK like they voted for Millie, Jo, Wayne, Raj, and Nichelle.
MK walked towards her death calmly, but not the same way Jo had. Jo had been upset, but MK walked with the attitude of a respectful loser. It was the first time she'd ever been caught.
And just for kicks, Mono-Chris decided to execute Topher, too.
MK was brought to an enclosed room, at first it was pitch black save for a dim lamp above her head. Then suddenly, the entirety of the room blinked with red spots. Soon enough, the room lit up all of a sudden and it was revealed to both the girl and the audience the real identity of those red dots.
Bombs.
Topher was tied to a chair, blindfolded, and had a gag shoved into his mouth.
The room was filled with them, all over the place. On the ground, laying on a shelf, resting on a poltroon; everywhere you looked. A threatening sight they made. Yet, Marin could only stare stoically as MK's terror increased exponentially.
At the ceiling of the room, Mono-Chris popped his head through the hole and dropped a pair of scissors and a screwdriver, not before saluting the girl with a malicious smirk;
The severity of the situation descended upon MK as she desperately dived to get her hands on the tools and started working through the first bomb she could get his hands on. The girl had only five minutes, nothing more nothing less.
Marin knew it would be impossible for the girl to accomplish anything, not in so little time. The girl seemed to realize that as well, instead of examing the bomb more thoroughly, she merely cut one of the wires, the blue one, in the hopes she would be lucky enough to not explode it.
It turns out it worked.
Gasps filled the courtroom with the unlikely feat. MK herself couldn't believe her eyes as she turned the bomb around and watched as its timer froze. Not wasting a single second, she dived into the floor and gathered a bunch of bombs near her, cutting the blue wire in all of them as quickly as she possibly could.
Marin noticed before anyone else. A minor detail that would cost MK her life.
An acid smile plastered on her face as she sighed indignantly.
Indeed, this execution was nothing but that = an execution.
MK had no chance from the very beginning. She already knew that; all of them knew - yet, Mono-Chris created a pretense that would bring a thin sliver of hope, just to be crushed when the timer inevitably reached zero.
And it would reach zero, regardless of how much effort MK put into disarming the bombs.
When MK had finally cut the last blue wire, with a healthy 15 seconds left, a sob of relief wracked through her body.
That happiness was short-lived as he took notice of the still pepping engulfing the entire room. As it was, it seemed that contrary to MK's belief, the blue wire was not the universal disarming mechanism for all the bombs. Despite closing their eyes moments before the timer reached zero, Marin still witnessed the look of pure terror preceding the ringing sound of explosions.
Everyone watched in shocked amazement.
" What has happened?! What's happened?! " Mono-Chris growled.
"Did the execution fail...?" Zee asked hopefully.
"It did! It must be thanks to Topher!" Axel exclaimed.
"Suck it, Mono-Chris!" Bowie grinned at the man.
"Nah, MK was blown the hell up!" Mono-Chris said.
"What about Topher?" asked Damien.
"Relax, please relax," Mono-Chris said. "Topher won't die. The bomb opened a trapdoor. He was deposited down the garbage chute because of it."
"So he'll meet the same fate as the flushed people in TDAS." Marin said.
"No," Mono-Chris shook his head. "Topher's a bit sticky, which would cause his experience in the garbage chute to be long-lasting. This means that he'll be like a magnet for garbage in the garbage chute. It might be a bit hard for him, but that's what you get for trying to steal my job in TDPI."
"When we're done with this game," Bowie threatened.
