something something = Zehuti speaking
{something something} = Kyros speaking to Zehuti
Gods of Ma'at, a race of divine beings once worshipped on the land called Egypt. They were beings of order(except for one of them) and their existence was about protecting Ma'at(order). Fighting against Apophis(or Apep in some texts), the serpent of chaos every night in order to protect the world less the snake would swallow the sun and sent whole world into chaos. Or so it is said. Speaking of which?
{Zehuti, how are gods of Ma'at suppose to deal with Medea while they have to fight Apophis every night?}
The battle between the demon Apophis and gods of Ma'at ended twenty two centuries ago.
Wait what?
{How did that happen?}
As both sides realized that their battle would one day eventually destroy them all, lord Amun Ra made a deal with Apophis. Apophis would be free to roam the universe and eat other suns as long as doing so would not cause any harm to living and sentient species. Both sides then swore upon concepts of order and chaos to uphold their sides of the deal.
{I am guessing going back on that promise would not be nice.}
Going back on it would cause the very concepts of order and chaos residing within them to devour them. It has been only seen once when Balor of Fomorians tried to reignite the war of Celts and his Essence devoured him from within.
Well, that at least showed Kyros that there was a limit for every being. But now he had more important concerns.
The gods he would follow.
{How does following a god work anyway? Is there something I have to do? Some sort of sacrifice?}
Negative. As you already have been chosen as a champion, you will not have to sacrifice anything to them. You just have to be strong as their incarnation on this world.
Well that was convenient for him.
{What about my followers? You said that they too could follow a god? And what does following do for our development?}
Your followers are held to the same standards as you with only difference being that they have to see you as the pharaoh, they would not be able to follow a path otherwise. And the effect of the paths will be that you will have easier time in anything that is connected to the god you follow. You will also be given a skill by the gods you choose to follow along with the ability to learn magics connected to them.
Yeah ok he really could work with this.
He had three open slots for gods and once he decided to follow them, he can't change his decision. Though for him, his choices were obvious.
A pharaoh is the representative of the very gods on the earth. Therefore a pharaoh must be strong, smart and majestic. To be like the Sun itself. Which meant the first god was a simple choice…
Amun Ra, the lord of Sun and Order.
He knew that he would also need a god who was smart to follow and he had thought about Isis but she was also a goddess who had thought that poisoning Ra was a smart thing to do. In other words she was smart but not wise. So his second choice was...
Thoth, the lord of wisdom and the god who taught humanity how to write.
Last choice was difficult. He had already Choosen Amun Ra so technically the power department was taken care of. So the choice was based on his future actions. The fact is no matter what, gathering enough power to be able to go against the rest of the world if needed(and Kyros definitely would need to since the people of this world were stupid enough to declare war when a literal Apocalypse was happening) would cause chaos and the only god who governed over chaos was...
Set, the lord of the red land, general of Ra and the god of chaos.
Accepted. The response is being downloaded. Downloaded?
You paths have been accepted. You have gained skill 'Thought Acceleration' from lord Thoth, skill 'Monstrous Strength' from lord Set and skill 'Aura of King' from lord Amun Ra.
That sounded good to him. Though he did not know what Aura of King did. Other two were pretty self explanatory.
Skill, 'Aura of King' allows one to use their presence as a weapon against enemies and boost the morale of followers.
So it was pretty much Conqueror's Haki with friend boost ability.
Notice, the skill 'Aura of King' and skill 'Charisma' have similar purposes to each other. Therefore they have been combined into skill 'Presence of the Supreme Ruler'.
What…
Skill 'Presence of the Supreme Ruler' possess the ability of both skills used in its creation along with sending the 'Charisma' over enemies in order to either tame them in case of beasts or break the will in case of humans whose wills are not strong enough to resist.
So a low balled mind control skill?
Affirmative.
Kyros has been thinking the same line a lot in this conversation but he could REALLY work with that.
"My lord."
"Mogamett." the old wizard he had sent to find talented magicians in order to strengthen their land.
"I found two impressive recruits my lord." that was fast.
"Tell me about them."
"One of them is the daughter of a minor noble house that has collapsed a few months ago. She is a bit shy and not sure how to act around others but her talent in curses and bounded fields are extraordinary!"
"And what about the other one?"
"This one is a commoner, but his talent is anything but common. I haven't seen anyone with such aptitude for earth magic since the war though he seems to focus mostly on golem creations." Mogamett scratched the back of his head with puzzlement on his face.
Though, golems… nah no way right.
"How would they react to our new arrangements?" Kyros asked but what he meant by 'arrangements' was clear to the old magician.
"You mean slaves. While they won't be exactly thrilled about the situation, they don't exactly have many opportunities due to girl's status as a FORMER noble and boy's as a commoner. So they will be wary of you for employing such services but won't cause problems." That was a relief to hear, the last time someone with seemingly magical powers had problems with the pharaoh having slaves was pretty well known after all.
He didn't want to explain why every firstborn suddenly died.
"So what are their names?"
"Nitocris Sneferu and Avicebron, my lord."
…
The world was definitely laughing at Kyros, or at least the gods were.
