After The Storm
Chapter 38
Hours Later
In the morning
I was in the process of making sure. Salem had everything she needed for school that day.
The only way she slept was if I was there next to her.
Which meant I didn't sleep. But even without sleeping in a bed meant for a child.
Last night was alot. I couldn't turn off my mind. My thoughts.
When I heard knocking at the door. I assumed it was Rachel or anyone else from the dinner who didn't like Peyton just dropping in and made their feelings towards her clear.
Lucas being at my door. This early. From the look of it.
He didn't sleep either. (Why are you here?) I asked.
(I should of ended my friendship with Peyton months ago.)
(Various people close to us advised me to do exactly that.)
(But I didn't because I wanted her in my life. I can admit that.) Lucas said.
(I need to talk to Salem.) Lucas explained.
(She's right upstairs in her room.) Brooke replied.
...
(My girl. I'm sorry you got scared last night. It shouldn't of happened.) Lucas said.
(That Peyton lady is you're friend. Last night was supposed to be special.)
(And she ruined it. And so did you.) (She doesn't like me. And momma hates her.)
(Don't you love us daddy?) Salem asked.
Lucas felt his stomach sink.
The expression on his face softened.
(More than anything in the world.) Lucas replied.
(Then choose. Her or us.) Salem said.
Lucas attempted to reach out to his daughter but she turned from him.
When Lucas left the bedroom.
Salem changed back into her pajamas. And grabbed her purple monkey.
