Okay, so we meet some of the friends Grissom and Sara have.

To end the suspense, they're meeting with CSI NY. Not a crossover, just a visit.

The plan to leave Boston for a four day vacation seemed to be perfect for them. It would give them a very short 'babymoon' before they had to return to the students and their final few days away from Vegas for what would probably be years. Sara had been surprised when Grissom suggested they visit New York as he knew a few of the personnel at the New York Crime Lab and they'd be able to see the city. So, the two had packed a shared suitcase and left early on Friday morning, the students instructed to work on their projects and volunteer at Walden Pond if they so wished. Sara knew some of the students were happy to have the weekend off.

They decided to take the Amtrak to New York since it would be about the same amount of time to drive and driving in New York City was debatable. Sara enjoyed the view out of the train window while Grissom sat beside her reading Thoreau. It was a fast train but there was vast changing scenic views. Her hand ran over her belly, which seemed to grow a bit over the week she'd been in Boston. She had officially hit twenty weeks, the halfway mark of her pregnancy.

"Did you call your friends?" Sara asked as they neared New York, Penn Station was only twenty minutes ahead.

Closing his book, Grissom took off his glasses and turned his attention fully on her. "I did, they're working but insisted we come to the lab. Detective Mac Taylor and I have had to consult on some cases together in the past and have met at a couple conferences. He always said if I got to New York, to call him."

Sara's brow furrowed. "He's a detective and a CSI?"

"It's the way the New York Crime Lab is run. I asked the same question and it has to do with the way the NYPD formed and the criminalists within its structure."

"Well, they are in the top ten oldest law enforcement system in the United States. Makes sense their structure would be different from the modern ones." Sara ran her hand over her belly. "Any particular thing you want to do in the city? Other than museums and famous buildings."

Grissom reached out and took her hand, running his thumb over her knuckles. "I had thought we'd walk around Central Park. Perhaps see the Bronx Zoo, it is one of the oldest zoos. I also was going to see if our friends have any suggestions since they are native New Yorkers."

"I like the idea of seeing and experiencing something that tourists don't usually experience." Sara thought for a moment, "you may also like to visit the rollercoasters at Coney Island. I can't ride but I know you'd like that and I'm sure I can find something to occupy my time while you do."

Grissom chuckled. "You know me so well."

"I should." Sara smiled at him before turning her attention towards the window. "I wonder what the New York Subway is like." She looked at him after a moment, "I've heard good and bad about it."

"I'll hail us a cab to the hotel before we head to the Lab. I'd prefer not risking our personal items on the train. Your bag is small enough not to interest people."

Grissom reached out with his free hand to place it against her belly. Sara spoke as he did so. "You're going to be a great father. I can already see how much you love this baby." It was truth and Sara smiled for him. "I also know you can't wait to feel the baby kick."

"Are they active?"

Sara shook her head a fraction. "Not right now, which is a reprieve. I called the OB just to run the movement by her again and she called me back saying that me feeling movement at sixteen weeks was unique, twenty weeks is normal." She placed her hand over his, "give it time, soon you'll be able to feel the movements."

"My mother inquired whether we had decided on names already. She commented that she and my father had names rather early on. I told her we had names but we're not saying anything to anyone until the birth. She wasn't happy about that."

"Why?"

"I expect because she wants to know everything as soon as we do. I told her that it was a choice we made to keep the name between us given that there was no way to keep the gender a surprise. She still wasn't happy."

Sara chuckled, "we can't make everyone happy."

"That's reality, my dear."

New York was loud compared to Las Vegas, and given all the casinos, it was impressive. They'd caught the subway after checking into their hotel; it was already three in the afternoon when they arrived in New York, likely due to them swinging by the campus to check on the students before leaving Boston. The subway from hotel to the New York Crime Lab was a straight shot on one of the lines, so they got to the building without issue. Getting into the building was the issue, due to security. A quick call up to the lab and security had been called to let them in.

Sara found it interesting that the crime lab was in a building but she figured it made sense due to New York being New York. As soon as the elevator opened, they were met by man who Sara guessed was older than her but younger than Grissom. He smiled at them as the elevator doors closed behind them. He immediately held out his hand to Grissom.

"Welcome to New York." Mac Taylor told them. "Good to see you again Dr. Grissom."

Grissom shook his hand. "Gil, please. It's good to be here. I remembered your invitation when we were trying to decide on a vacation destination."

Mac Taylor turned to Sara. "How do you do, Mac Taylor."

"Sara Sidle-Grissom." Sara told him as she shook his hand. "Thank you for the invitation."

"My pleasure." He chuckled, "at the risk of being slapped, may I ask if you're expecting?"

Rubbing her hand over her belly, Sara nodded. "Twenty weeks, half-way through."

"Well you both have my congratulations. Why don't I show you around." He waved a hand in invitation for them to follow.

Walking around the lab, the two were impressed with the lab's layout. Everything was on display, very little was hidden from view. Lab techs worked without pausing to gawk at the new people, which was very unlike Vegas. A few introductions were made and Sara noticed a familiar yet distant face. The Forensic Academy Conference was very professional, but it was also common to see little groups of students and professionals who formed 'teams' and it usually was made up of five to seven people. It was an unwritten fact about the conference that was never advertised. One of the men working had been part of Sara's 'team', he'd been with her, Fiona, and a few other men and women. A name floated to the front of her mind so she paused in what was the doorway to the lab area. Mac and Grissom paused to see what kept her occupied.

"Danny?"

The man looked up as he spoke. "What's up?" He gazed at her before smiling wide. "Sara Sidle, if it isn't the leader of our academy conference team. What are you doing in New York?" The CSI pulled his gloves off and immediately hugged her before pulling back, her hands had been at her side during the hug. "No, really, what are you doing in my town?"

"Visiting, getting a small vacation in before my kid comes."

"No, really?" Danny grinned, "congrats. So, where are you stationed now? I remembered you mentioned Quantico. Did the feds finally steal you?"

Mac and Grissom walked into the area where they stood waiting. "Danny." Mac spoke and Danny looked up as soon as he heard his boss's voice. "Seems you know Sara, how so?"

"Oh, the Forensic Academy Conference in 1998. She ran out little team, there were five of us and Sara controlled us all." Danny nodded his head toward Sara. "You know everyone breaks off into teams, at least unofficially."

The man nodded. "I remember, it's an unspoken fact and it's an opportunity to learn from each other."

Danny looked to Grissom and pointed. "You seem familiar. I got nothing though, so must have been a while ago we met."

"You were part of my class. Danny Messer, if I'm remember correctly."

"You're correct." After a moment, Danny spoke. "Grissom, I remember now. You taught about entomological timelines and their relation to murder."

Grissom gave a very small nod. "You scored an eighty-seven on the test I gave at the end of the course."

"Well, I mean, I tried." He told him.

"I scored a hundred." Sara interjected.

Danny chuckled, "you would, you studied while a lot of us went out to the bars."

"Getting drunk wasn't a good idea. Especially during a professional conference." Sara stated to defend herself.

After a few moments, he continued. "So, what brings you here, Dr. Grissom? Case?"

"Vacation. I'm lecturing in Boston at the moment but given we probably won't be able to travel or have a vacation after the baby, Sara and I thought we'd take up Detective Taylor's invitation to see the lab and also see various places around New York."

He motioned between the two. "You guys? Well this blows my mind. I mean, you hear about teacher and student relationships but I never met one till now. How long have you guys been together?"

"Since May of 2005." Sara spoke, "I was taken hostage during a case and after it was all over, we knew we'd wasted too much time. Got married in September and now are expecting a baby."

"Congrats." Danny seemed genuine as he spoke. "We should all get dinner. You could meet our team and we could trade some stories." His attention went to Grissom, "I could tell you some stories about Sara, stuff that went down during the conference. You'd be shocked for sure."

Mac interjected. "I can call down to a good Italian place we know, reserve a table if you're up for it. It's off the tourist map and so you'll get fair prices and a taste that I have CSIs and techs swearing by."

"Nico's?" Danny asked, "oh, you haven't experienced New York if you haven't experienced Nico's. That's plain fact."

Grissom looked at Sara and she said nothing, knowing he'd see the answer in her eyes and facial features. After a moment, he turned his attention to Mac. "We'd be honored."

"Alright, I'll give them a call." Mac motioned around, "feel free to glance around. Dinner will be at seven, I'll let my team know."

"Great." Sara replied.

So yeah, they went to New York. This babymoon will be separated into multiple chapters since my computer may break if I try to write it all on one page. Plus, the document manager probably has a word limit.

Little side note, we learn that two other members of the New York team know Grissom and Sara in various ways.

Let me know what you think of this if you so choose.
