Chapter Twenty-One:
The Breaking Point: Great Power Awakens
'...this is why they will never allow you to be a playable fighter in Smash.'
'You have no potential as a playable Super Smash Bros fighter.'
'Do you really think players would be interested? Nobody wants Waluigi in Smash.'
'Honestly, you're not Smash material, nobody cares.'
Waluigi sat behind the seemingly unoccupied house, hugging himself and sulking while another tear ran down his face and the serpent within his soul feasted on his despair, crawling to the surface. All it needed was a little more, then Waluigi would see his true potential. The Wah-man sulked, groaning as he thought of random ideas for his special smash move amongst other things.
In his mind, anything else he could think of were all the times when fans had asked for him to be in Smash along with his every attempt to become part of the roster, only for Master Hand and the other Nintendo staff to turn him away.
Neglected and turned down, over and over, with many others telling him he wasn't a priority, saying he wasn't popular enough to even be in Smash. How he wished they could accept him, how he wished they saw potential in him, and how he could figure out what his move set could be.
Waluigi's only representation in Smash was being an Assist Fighter, which many saw as an insult. Even he saw it as an insult, but it was the best they could do, especially as Master Hand had said he wasn't unique.
For many years, Waluigi had dreamed of entering Smash as a fighter, but that day seemed distant.
And aside from his popularity and lack of a unique special move, the Wah-man wondered if there was another reason why Master Hand and the others weren't so much interested in letting him join the Smash insanity.
To many people, appeal was important. Perhaps, Waluigi wasn't appealing enough.
Wait, hold on, how could he not be appealing? There were fans out there who loved him and he had one of the most appealing appearances and characteristics out of everyone in the world of Mario, not to mention the SMG4 universe and its version of the world of Mario for that matter. SMG4 had let Waluigi appear in his videos, but that was so different compared to Smash.
Even then, despite all the things that he'd done with Wario and some of their achievements, Nintendo still wouldn't say 'yes'.
He continued to sulk, barely noticing that the Mario Brothers had found him and were approaching. Waluigi wasn't sure if he cared about what they had to say or if they were going to comfort him, he even wondered if someone had tipped off Mario about 'that one ridiculous idea' of his yet, the idea that he'd shared with SMG3 before he texted Master Hand.
"It's-a okay, Waluigi." Mario said to the Wah-man in his chipper manner, "Everyone has a special, so do me and Luigi."
Luigi nodded. "Waluigi, your first game was tennis-related, right?" He quipped, making Waluigi remember the day when he met the Mario Bros alongside Wario for the first time, "We've seen you hit baseballs, soccer balls and tennis balls amongst other things..."
"Maybe your special move will be smacking balls at other players." Mario suggested.
Waluigi glared at the fat Italian with shocked disbelief and shot to his feet, his fist shaking and anger boiling to the surface.
"WAAAAAAH, NO, NO, NO!" He cried, the serpent within could sense the inevitable and had wrapped around his heart as it weaved its way through every atom of the lanky Italian's body towards his mind, Mario and Luigi stepped back with shock.
"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!" Waluigi raised his voice, startling a group of Toads passing by and sending birds flying from the trees, "I WANT MY OWN UNIQUE MOVE, ONE THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT WALUIGI AND HOW SPECIAL HE IS! I want it so, when people see the move, they're like, 'Yeah, that's Waluigi's move!'
"Both of you have been in sports games, but there's nothing unique about that, especially when you guys get to be in Smash and I don't! They don't see anything special in me and all they do is relegate me to spin-offs, including party games and sports games, while you get all the recognition and rights to be Smash fighters! DO ANY OF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM EVEN TALKING ABOUT?!"
Luigi was crying, hurt by Waluigi's comment about how there was nothing unique about sports games and their presence in it. However, Mario rolled his eyes dismissively, especially as he took in every word of Waluigi's rant.
"Yeah, I don't get it..." Mario groaned.
"WAH!" Waluigi was taken aback by the plumber's response, his knees trembled and blood boiled in his veins again. He closed his eyes, more tears rolling down his cheeks, and anger overtook the sorrow. Now, he was at the breaking point, his threshold, where his whole life had been building up to, and he could no longer handle it.
Every ounce of rage, every painful emotion, all the fury that he'd bottled up over the years, the dam had burst. Waluigi growled, uttering his famous "wah" with a snarl, and a light-blue aura surrounded him along with dark mist that bubbled up from within his soul.
Mario remarked that Waluigi broke, just as Waluigi began to scream and a light engulfed him. Luigi freaked out, unable to even comprehend the insanity that was happening.
Waluigi found himself floating into the air, shouting with rage, as his very being changed. All the genes in his body had slightly rearranged, making room for the unfathomable power that was awakening.
Fabric ripped, muscles bulged and Waluigi's black eyes glowed blue. He raised his shaking fists and screamed, "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
A burning bright blue hue exploded around him and waves of blackness rolled in like mist, the light settled and Waluigi emerged, staring down upon the Mario Brothers with bright blue eyes filled with rage and energy.
He wasn't so lanky anymore, not with that muscular build, wearing only his gloves, black pants and brown shoes. A headband had appeared around the Wah-man's head and his hair had gotten a little longer, bringing to mind the images of The Messiah, Jesus Christ, himself. Except, the Son of The Lord didn't take on a rageful appearance like that.
Waluigi regarded himself, nearly amazed by the new power that he'd just unlocked. He could see it now, perhaps this was what he was looking for the whole time. Maybe going into half-deity, half-Hulk mode was his special move, it looked... perfect... perfect enough to get him in Smash.
'Wow, Waluigi!' He imagined Master Hand exclaiming, 'I didn't think you had it in you. I, we, we will accept you into Smash. We are so proud of you. Yes, you deserve to be in Smash above all others.'
He saw himself filled with joy, bringing despair to his enemies. Then he snapped back to the present and held out his hand, a beam of light glowed, and a staff appeared in his grasp, a wand with an L symbol on it along with Waluigi's hat and a mustache. Oh, this looked perfect, and Waluigi could see himself as something more than just... Waluigi... or Smash material.
He was the Doctor Manhattan of the Mushroom Kingdom, he was GOD-LIKE!
"Yes, I think I've found my special move!" Waluigi declared, "This is unique, like something the world has never faced before!"
"Is it having a stroke?" Mario asked stupidly.
"No, you fool." Waluigi howled with laughter, "IT IS THE POWER... OF NEGLECT, IT'S THE POWER OF REJECTION!"
He flicked his staff and an orb of energy streaked towards Mario. The fat Italian didn't have time to move out of the way and Waluigi's attack struck true, hurting him and causing Mario to drop to the ground, wailing as he saw what seemed to be black mist surrounding him.
"Oooooh..." Mario groaned, every happy emotion had been sapped out of him and replaced by something else, "What is this, Mario feels sad."
"WALUIGI, WHAT DID YOU DO?!" Luigi screamed.
"I made him feel the pain I've been feeling for my whole life." Waluigi sneered, "ALLOW ME TO GIVE YOU A TASTE OF IT AS WELL, YOU FOOL!"
He struck Luigi with a similar orb of energy, watching as Mario's little brother collapsed, wailing in pain and sorrow. Waluigi cackled, then he took off, flying into the sky as he made his way towards Nintendo's HQ again. Perhaps, this was it, it was time for a new era in Smash history to begin...
