In the morning I woke gently, I felt Eric's arm across my waist. "Morning." Eric smiled, and kissed my head. "Hi. How are you feeling?" I said "I'm okay. What time is it?" I yawned. "A little after 9." Eric replied. "Wait what?! We've overslept!" I sat up immediately. "Hey easy. It's okay. I texted Four saying you were still asleep, and I didn't want to leave you yet." I leaned against the headboard, placing a hand on my head. "Whoa." I whispered. "Tris?" Eric asked, gently putting a hand on my head. "Sorry... I'm fine... Just got a little dizzy..." Eric frowned. "I don't like that." "I'm fine... I might just need to eat something... I probably moved to fast." I stated. "Alright..." He opened the snack drawer and handed me something. "Here honey." Eric said, as I took the granola bar. "Thank you."

Four: No problem. I can handle everything. Just come when you can.

Eric: Hey Marlene, any chance dizziness could just be caused by her just needing to eat and moving too fast?

Eric: I'll get there as soon as I can, man. I'm sorry, I'll explain when I get in.

Eric: Max, can you come and stay with Tris today so I can go to the office? I normally wouldn't ask, but...

Max: I'm on my way, son. Be there in ten. Code still the same?

Four: Is everything okay?

Marlene: Yeah, that's a huge possibility... But it also could be something more... Just keep an eye on it. Keep me updated.

Eric: Yes, the codes the same.

Eric: No... I'll explain in person.

Eric: Thanks Marlene. I'm having Max come stay with her, so I could head into the office today...

"Eric?" I called, causing him to kiss my head. "It's Okay. I have to go to the office, today, But I want you to stay home. I made a little work area for us yesterday, for these moments. I'd prefer you work from home today..." "But..." He shook his head. "No. No But's. Max is going to come stay with you." I said "I want to go into the office." Eric sighed and said "Tris. You got dizzy, more than once today. I think we need to be smart about this...I want you and the babies to be safe. It's really better if you stay home, just one more day..." I sighed but agreed. "Thank you." He whispered. "Eric? Tris?" I dressed quickly, while Eric went to talk to Max.

Once I was set up, Eric went to work. I spent the day working from home. It was a little after 2, when I went to the bathroom. Max kept trying to cheer me up. "Ugh... What's wrong little ones?" I said gripping the counter bringing my eyes to the mirror. "Tris?" Max called, knocking on the door. "I'm Fine..." I whispered. I couldn't tell what he did, but I heard a ding of his phone.

Max: Eric, I'm sorry... I don't want to be a burden... But she's been in the bathroom for over an hour... She looked pretty weak...

Eric: I'm on my way, Max. My husband senses tingled.

I wasn't sure how long it was, but I heard the door open. "Hey Max... Still in there I see..." I must've slid down to the ground and slumped over.

~Eric's Prov~

I walked over to the door and knocked, but no answer. "Tris? Honey?" I heard a soft moan, of my name. I tried to open the door. "Damn it..." Max handed me a key, which I smiled gratefully, before I unlocked the door, and went in. "Tris. Damn it. Max! Call Marlene!" I knelt down beside Tris. "Eric..." She moaned. "Shh. It's Okay. I'm here. Arms around my neck." I lifted her up carrying her to our bed, laying her down. Max came in and said "Marlene wants to talk to you." I took the phone, before I said "Can you get a bowl of water and a cloth? Thanks." I then said into the phone. "Marlene. I don't know what happened. I left her with Max while I went to work... I had a feeling something was wrong, then Max asked me to come home, so I did. Tris is in and out of consciousness... She must've hit her head when she dropped down, because she's got a nasty gash... I wouldn't ask if it was important... I'm worried about her and the babies... Thank you. I really appreciate it."

"Here." Max said, as I hung up. "Thanks." I gently soaked the cloth, before placing it on Tris's head, earning a whimper. "I'm sorry babe..." I whispered, as I continued cleaning her wound. "Eric... It hurts..." She whimpered. "I know, sweetie. I know..." I finished, as I said "Do you remember anything that happened?" She looked to me, before saying "No... I'm sorry..." "Shh. It's Okay. Don't apologize." "Eric? Tris?" I heard Marlene call. Max must've let her in. "Bedroom. Right through there." Max instructed. I sat close to Tris. "Hey Marlene." She smiled and said "Hey. So I brought a portable ultrasound machine, and something knew Erudite sent over. We have some in the infirmary, and I brought another one, so I can leave it with you." I nodded and said "Thank you." Marlene gave Tris a head to toe check and stitched up her forehead, before doing the ultrasound. "Alright, so looks like both babies are just fine... Maybe a little dehydrated, Tris looks a little dehydrated too." "I've been drinking..." Tris whispered. "Maybe not enough. I want you to double you water intake, and I want you to eat a little more too, okay? And if it doesn't help come see me and we can check a little more in depth." Tris nodded, as well as myself, then Marlene pulled out a little monitor thing. "Do you know what this is?" Me and Tris looked to each other before we shook our heads. "It's called a fetal doppler, it's a device, that allows us to hear the babies heart beat, Let me show you. Tris, can you lift up your shirt?" I watched Tris try to, but ultimately she looked defeated, so I pulled the shirt up enough to expose her tiny baby belly.

"I'm sorry… I tried…" Tris started. "It's okay, are you feeling weak still and dizzy?" I saw Tris nod. "Why is she feeling like this...?" Eric asked. "I'd say it's still most likely dehydration, but I know that itself doesn't usually cause weakness, especially the kind Tris has been feeling..." Marlene said, sitting beside us, than I realized something. "Tris… Sweetheart, you did get the flu shot like I asked… Right?" Tris looked down feeling ashamed. "Tris… You did that…. Right?" I asked, again. Tris's lifted her eyes to meet mine, tears in them. "That day we got the news of the twins… But what if I didn't get it early enough?" I took a deep breath, trying to calm my rage. "And… I think we have a diagnosis… Our first case of Dauntless flu." Every single year without fail, 90 % of the faction got taken down with the Dauntless Flu. The 10 % that don't get it, usually got the shot, and if they did get it, it was milder. "Eric… I'm so sorry!" I looked to Tris's exhausted weak sobbing form. I couldn't be mad at her, so I carefully slid into bed beside her, putting my arm around her shoulder. "Is that why she's so weak?" Marlene nodded. "I've seen it take down even the strongest women… Let me show you how to use this, and I'll bring some medicine for her, and you. Anyone else that either of you been around, closely within the last 24 hours?" I said "Max, Four, Caleb, Chris, Zeke, and Uriah. Get the medicine over to Caleb and Chris after us… Chris is pregnant…" Marlene nodded, as she showed us how to use the fetal doppler. Woosh Woosh Woosh Woosh. "Two of the strongest heartbeats I've ever heard, with a sick mama. That's an extremely good sign." I felt Tris sniffle, before I said "That's really good news." I rubbed Tris's shoulder. "I'll be right back Okay? I'm going to go get some medicine. I want her at home until this whole Dauntless flu thing is over. Same for you Eric." "We'll do whatever we have to. I have both of set up to work from home if we have too." Marlene smiled. "I'll be back."

Eric: Hey, Guys. Tris is the first victim of Dauntless Flu. Marlene's bringing medicine over for us, as well as you guys, Especially you and Chris, Caleb. I'm so sorry.

Eric: Four, Marlene also said she want's me and Tris home till this Dauntless flu is over, Do you think you can handle running Dauntless in office till then? Tris and I are equipped to work from home..

Max: I'm sorry… She must've gotten it from me… I wasn't feeling 100 % this morning… I just got diagnosed with it too.

Four: Dude, Shut Up! You just worry about Tris and the babies. That's where your needed. I can handle this. You don't have to worry.

Uriah and Zeke: I know, Mar texted us. We're already planning on dropping off some supplies for you guys, we'll leave it outside the door. What about your brother and sister?

Eric: Shit… I didn't think about that… I'll call my mom, and see if she's okay with them coming still, if yes, We'll need to take triple precautions. I'll update you on that soon. Thanks Guys! You got a raise coming. Can you guys also get some soup and bring it?

Caleb and Chris: Us too. We're down for the count.

I sighed. I replied to Caleb, and texted Marlene the code to get in before dialing my moms number, as Tris laid her head on my lap. "Hey Mom. It's Eric… No we're not 100% okay… Tris is one of our victims of Dauntless Flu… She's okay, just tired, weak, and maybe a little dehydrated, but she's trying to stay strong… But the reason I'm calling, is I know Jensen and Cami are supposed to come over, and stay the week with us, But I wanted to make sure you and dad were Okay with it still. I can have one of nursing staff give them preventive medicine, since me and Tris have it, at least Tris does, I may too, but not symptomatic… You sure? Sounds good Mom. I'll have either our co-head leader Four meet you at the guest entrance, or one of our two other leaders, Uriah or Zeke, what time? Sounds good. Love you too mom." I hung up before carefully moving Tris's now sleeping form, to a more comfortable position, before I got up, and went to the door, seeing Uriah, Zeke, and Four. "Hey. So My mom and dad really need us to watch Jensen and Cami. They're dropping them off in 20. Which one of you wants to meet them at the guest entrance, and which one of you want to tell Marlene we need 2 courses of preventive antibiotics?" Four said "I'll meet them." I snapped a picture, as Uriah said "I'll go talk to Marlene, Here's some supplies for you guys." I smiled gratefully, bringing in the bags.

Eric: -Attaches a picture of Four.- Hey mom, I just talked to the three people I told you about, and Four will meet you at the entrance. Since you probably don't know many of the leaders here apart from Tris and I, this is what he looks like.

I quickly put everything away before I quickly finished assembling Jensen's things and Cami's, even if I didn't feel quite myself. "Eric?" I heard Marlene say as she entered. "Hey." I said, exiting the room. "Here's some medicine for Tris, it's the strongest one we have that's safe for her, and the twins, There is one for you in the bag as well, and ones for your sister and brother." I smiled with relief. "thank you." I took the bag as she said "You don't look well…" I shrugged. "I'm fine… I got the flu shot a month ago, I'm more worried about somehow managing to cook for Tris, Myself as well as Jensen and Cami." "Uriah's on his way over, that spot there…" Marlene pointed to an empty space, with only a fridge, and microwave. "…Is supposed to be a kitchen, so He's going to make it into a functioning one." I said "That actually works." Marlene said "And if you need anything at all, You can just shoot one of us, Me, Uriah, Zeke, or Four a list of things you need, and one of us will get it for you. I also want to see Tris weekly, until this Dauntless Flu is over, if that helps, you better plan, on a list of things." I said "Marlene, I seriously don't know what we'd do without you. You are a gift. Thank you. I swear Between you, Uriah, Zeke and Four, I don't think Tris and I have anything to worry about, Even Caleb and Chris," "Speaking of them, Zeke is heading over to theirs as well to fix their kitchen area up to be a functioning one, as well." I smiled. "We don't deserve all this help."

"Of course you do. After everything you and Tris have done for this faction, you deserve the world." I smiled, before excusing myself to check on Tris, who was still sleeping. When I exited I saw Uriah getting the kitchen set up. "I brought 6 cans of soup, some bread, crackers, ginger ale, and some adult vitamin C pills and chewable vitamin C for kids, for your sister. Marlene said that those were safe for Tris, and it wouldn't hurt for her to continue taking them for the duration." I said "Thank you, let me get some money..." I went to the lock box Tris and I kept in the living room, pulling out a couple of 20's, before handing them to Uriah. "I insist." I said, as Uriah tried to refuse. "Thanks Man." He said tucking them into his pocket, before finishing the kitchen up. "Alright. You two should be all set." I smiled, thanking him once more. "I'll text you a list of things, we'd need for the kids or ourselves, tomorrow." Uriah clapped a hand on my back. "Sure thing, man. You and Tris, even Caleb and Chris easily became our family, and I'll be damned to hell if I let you guys struggle." I laughed. "go on Pedrad! Get out of here now." He laughed, before leaving. I quickly made some soup, as I heard Tris's voice, call my name.

"Coming Love!" I said, covering the soup before going over to Tris, wrapping an arm around her waist seeing her trying to get up. "Thanks… What smells so good?" She asked, as I walked with her to the kitchen. "Just some Chicken and Dumpling soup. I know it's your favorite, Uriah brought that and Chicken noodle for us, and some vitamins that Marlene wants you to take." I saw Tris nod as I sat her at the table. "Uriah also set this up for us, so I could cook here at home, whenever we're stuck at home." She smiled, as I served up the soup, and sat the bowl in front of her, before getting her ginger ale, crackers, medicine for the flu and vitamin C, before getting my stuff. We ate, quietly, before there was a knock on the door. "I'll get it honey." I said, as I got up, going to the door, opening it. "Hey Four. Jensen! Cami! Come on in guys." They came in looking around. "Here are their things." Four said, wheeling in 2 huge suitcases. "I did get some news from your mom, she wrote it down for you." He handed me a note, before walking away promising to check in. Once I got the kids settled in bed, and Tris was settled, I cleaned up the dishes, before sitting next to my sleeping wife. I took this time to read the first note. The second one was to be read if something happened to mom.

'My dearest Son.

My heart breaks that I have to tell you this in a letter. But you're father died, peacefully last night… In the suitcases, one has both the kids belongings, and in the second one, that I told Four was theirs too, is everything your father and I had left. I needed to make sure you had it before I went into surgery just in case. Also in the second one there is a letter, stating our wishes if something happens to us. I wan… No I need you to raise Jensen and Cami on your own, I need you to teach them to be brave, and strong, without losing their smarts. You're clearly both Dauntless and Erudite, and I speak for both Dad and I when I say, that You are the one we're most proud of. I love you, My son.

Love,

Mama.'

I gave a sad smile. "Eric?" I heard a soft coo, I looked to see Tris's eyes, looking up to me. "Hey, sorry, is the light bothering you?" I asked, setting the letter on the nightstand. "No. Couldn't sleep." I helped her sit up. "What were you reading?" She asked. "A letter from my mom. My dad apparently died, last night, and I think she has her doubts, about the surgery, that she'll live, cause she's given clear instructions. She wants us to raise Cami and Jensen, even if it means they leave Erudite." I handed her the letter letting her read it. "I'll raise them beside you. I love them, just as much as I love our little ones growing inside." I smiled, kissing her head. "Thank you." I whispered, I held her close, fighting the emotions, but that was not in the cards. "Eric if you need to cry, you can." Tris started as my phone rang. I picked up. "Eric Coulter… Wait what?! NO! There must be something!" I felt Tris's hand on my arm. "No… I'm sorry, it's just a tough day… I understand completely… I know she wouldn't want to continue living if she was on a ventilator… I want you to stop all attempts… Let her go." I said into the phone, still pulling my strength forward. "thank you." I hung up, setting the phone on the nightstand, before I broke down sobbing against my wife's lap. I didn't move, I couldn't. I felt like I was suffocating. My parents were gone… I let Tris comfort me, but eventually we ended up falling asleep.

In the morning I made toast, for the family, I also added a little jelly to Jensen's and Cami's, before setting them on the table, along with the medicine. "Morning love." I heard Tris say as she came in, I turned to see her. "Hey. You're looking like you have a bit more energy." I commented. "I do, But Eric. How are you really?" She asked, coming over to me placing a hand on my arm, caressing it gently. "Honestly I feel like a hole has been punched in my chest. If it wasn't for you, Jensen and Cami, I probably would hurl myself in the chasm." I confessed. "I'm so sorry honey. Whatever you need, I'm here." I kissed her lips once, as if to say thank you. "Morning Eric, Morning Tris." Jensen and Cami said, as they entered. "Morning." We ate breakfast, which is when Jensen asked if we heard anything from mom. "We did, and it wasn't good news…"

Jensen said "We're orphans…" Cami said "What does that mean?" Jensen looked to Cami. "that means we don't have a mommy and daddy…" "NO!" Cami screamed. "That's not true. You're going to stay here… With us. We're your family now. You're going to stay with us, here at Dauntless." I heard Tris say. "We're going to figure out the best way to handle this, situation."

I said "I'm going to take them to school today." Once I had everything Tris gave us all a big hug before we left. "I know, this is just as scary for you both, But you aren't alone. Me and Tris love you, and we will protect you." Jensen said "We love you both too." When we arrived at the school, we went in and I lead Cami to her class first. "Hey Cami! I'm sorry I don't believe we met… I'm Miss. Johnson." I said "I'm Eric, Her brother. Can We talk out here… ?" The teacher stepped out, and I said "Just be aware, she might not be herself for a while… We just lost our parents, and Per my parent's instructions, My wife and I are her legal guardians. I don't know how she'll behave, but if you could just kind of keep an eye on her, make sure she's okay, in a sense, I'd appreciate it,.." I handed her a card. "If it gets really bad, this is my cell, and my wife's. I'm going to explain this all to Jensen's teacher, the nurse and the principle too." She nodded, and said "I'm so sorry." I nodded, in appreciation. I made my rounds, before returning home to Tris.
