Eren was up early in the morning as the sun was just beginning to appear in the east.

The silhouettes of still Titans were off in the distance. They felt even more creepy when they were standing perfectly still. Despite how far away they were, Eren couldn't help but feel nervous. Instead of the 50 meter walls lined with cannons and soldiers, all they had were a few meters of tree trunks to separate them.

"Nice sunrise isn't it?" Annie said from behind him.

Eren was surprised. "What are you doing up? You always struck me as the type to sleep as late as possible if you could."

"Usually I would." She sat down on the branch next to him. Just her being next to him made his heart rate go up. On top of that no one else was up yet it was just him and her.

"We're so close to our goal, I guess I'm too excited to sleep." she said.

"Yeah, same here." Eren said.

They sat in silence for a few minutes watching the sun rise. The others would be awake soon. If he wanted to make any progress with her, now was the best chance.

"Hey Annie, I have another question. Why did you save me?" He said. Annie looked surprised "You were so close to getting that easy life in the interior you always wanted, why throw it all away for me."

He was secretly hoping she'd say something like she has feelings for him, though he knew the chances of her saying that were next to zero.

"Maybe its what you said got to me." she said quietly. "About us just sitting in the walls waiting for death to come. After seeing you actually save the day in Trost, I think with our powers, we may actually be able to push out the titans."

"I'm glad you see the light." Eren said. "The only thing worrying me is…well I'm sure you know the armored and colossal are probably like us, right?"

"Probably."

"It just doesn't make sense, if they're human why are they trying to wipe us all out?"

"Who knows?" She said. "With any luck the info in your dads basement will tell us, but otherwise there's no point in trying to guess their motives."

"Yeah, you're probably right. It just makes me angry that another person would do this to us."

"When are you not angry Eren?"

"When I'm with you." The words came out of his mouth without thinking. Annie quickly turned her head away and looked out into the distance.

"You know, I may not show it, but I hate Titans just as much as you do Eren." She said, not acknowledging his comment.

Eren was surprised. It would make sense she hated them, she just played it so cool all the time it never registered in him.

"Who'd you lose to them?" he said.

She was quiet for a while. Eren was beginning to think he shouldn't have asked that. He was about to apologize, but then she spoke. "My dad."

Eren felt a surge of rage come through him. Titans took her dad the same way they took his mom all those years ago. "Sorry."

"Don't apologize." She said, "You lost your parents too… It's not your fault."

"We'll get revenge. Together, we'll kill them all, so that they never hurt anyone again, I promise." Eren said.

"Yeah, sure." she said.

The sunlight began to break through the tree line and illuminated Annies face. Eren couldn't help but realize how beautiful she was again. To him she looked like the angel that everyone said Krista looked like.

Eren couldn't help himself. Even with their powers there was no guarantee they would live to see tomorrow, so why wait. He leaned in and kissed her, right there. It only lasted for a moment before Eren felt her push him away. She looked shocked, embarrassed, and angry all at the same time.

Eren was about to apologize, but she got up and used her ODM gear to grapple away deeper into the forest without saying a word.
