I do not own Pokémon.
AN: This story while leaning a little bit towards the darker side of fanfic's and being more than a little gritty with a little sprinkling of gore and brutality in the Pokémon fights will not be some angsty edgefic so dw about that.

The Pokémon league are many things but truthful is not one of them, in order to raise the number of trainers joining the league and increase their income, support and necessity they have changed Pokémon's image to the public over the years. In some regions such as Alola where almost the entire region is heavily human occupied it is easy to forget how wild some Pokémon are.
(Introduction)
My name is Soot, I'm what some people call a street rat. This world is inhabited by creatures called Pokémon. For some people, Pokémon are pets, others use them for fights. Myself … I want a Pokémon more than anything else. I've always seen wanted to be a Pokémon trainer to explore this region and more. Become so rich from selling items and rare Pokémon that I would never need to worry about money again. Be able to feel the rush from the fights and have someone I could trust 100% always guard my back. Too bad it's a pipe dream down here in the slums, While the league leads everyone to believe that having a Pokémon is easy and affordable that only goes for the league sponsored trainers and those with parents rich enough to have a Pokémon of their own or give their child one.
(First person)
Running along the tops of warehouse's jumping from one to the next. Feeling the thrum of the city beneath my feet I look over the city of Motostoke its gear's spinning even in the dark of night, the steady stream of people and Pokémon alike pulsating through the streets beneath me. The moon above me gives off just enough light to see the wall leaning over the city keeping it in a shadow, and stopping the many wild Pokémon from getting in. Finding a broken-down warehouse relatively close to the city's edge I carefully make my way to the window looking for an entrance to it's insides. Sliding through a rusted hole in the side being careful to avoid any and all sharp edge's I step onto the platform surrounding the top edge of the factory allowing me to see down to the ground floor noticing the stripped machines I quickly realise that anything worth grabbing would have already been taken and it wasn't worth my time to go looking so I turn over to a larger hole in the warehouse's front overlooking the wild area and settle down on the ground. Taking out and laying atop my sleeping bag I decide to get a bit of rest in and I look at todays spoils, I managed to grab a bag off of a lone young man in the crowd he looked rich I'm sure he won't miss it so opening up the bag I see that it is equivalent to the real space I sigh realising that it wasn't even an expanded bag meaning he wasn't likely to be a Pokémon trainer and just needed the suit for another occasion. Regardless of this I look further into the bag and see inside only a wallet that's nearly empty, a clipboard with a pen tucked through it and some random papers I filled in with squiggles I can't read so it's probably a tourist from Kanto or Johto based on how the writing looks.
I toss the Papers away to the ground of the facility and start to doze resting and waiting to fall asleep, after about 20 minutes the clock tower chimes out over all of Motostoke and the other towers from across the wild area start letting off their 10:00pm signals making any trainers still inside the wild area aware that the gates are now closing and they won't open until 6:00am the next day. Lying in the factory I'm unable to fall asleep so I gaze across the wild area taking in its beauty. Far off in the distance I see the old southern watchtower sticking up through the sky casting shadow across the fields, the giant lake 10's of kilometres away from me now looking more like an ocean with a single island. Suddenly as my eyes are tracing over the field a man burst's from the tall grass sprinting, well less sprinting and more hobbling as fast as he can towards the gate but even from here I can see he's heavily injured not likely to survive the night when even more suddenly than he appeared he collapse's onto the ground. I'm too far away to make out what did this to him but all I can see is opportunity even knowing the danger I realise that this man is almost certainly a trainer and even if I couldn't use his Pokémon due to not having an aura connection with them I could still use any spare Pokeballs he might have had and most importantly his Pokédex and if I got really lucky Rotom phone. With either I could run to den's and collect the watt's from them and sprint back to the gate and trade in some of those watt's for pokéballs or even just a few good Pokédollars.
I quickly shove the sleeping bag full of holes barely protecting me from anything, my one spare pair of clothes kept nice just in case I ever need to enter the town without being refused, my small stash of cash even though nearly no stores will take it these days and my single water bottle only half full right now but still better than nothing. Looking down to the factory one last time I see sticking out from the edge of a machine a slightly torn rope, wondering if this factory was originally producing escape ropes for trainers I drop down and grab it before returning to the window. I take a small sip of the bottle and it still tastes just as shit as I remember, shoving it into the side compartment of my bag I swing it over my shoulder. I quickly slip out through the window of the factory scrambling up to the roof watching my hands to avoid injuries even a scratch can be lethal down here. I run from empty building to empty building this whole district is shut down and full of rusting gears and collapsing shed's basically touching he comes to the walls low point. The league doesn't have the resources or time to waste making the wall as high as the gate around the whole city, with only the inner districts protected like that with outer districts having a wall only 6 metres high and constructed using concrete and jagged stone leaving plenty of sizable handholds to climb. Getting closer to the wall I quickly slide down to the street and move towards the wall thanking Arceus that I hadn't encountered any other people so far.
Readying myself for the pain in my fingers I grab the first of the handholds and start to yank myself up cursing my lack of good food. Pushing with my legs to grab another handhold I quickly scale the wall and climb onto the top and quickly press flat against the stone and look for the guard. Seeing that the guards are still in their watch post far from where I am now I continue to move forward crawling across the wall so as not to draw attention from them I tie the rope as tight as I can manage around one of the stones jutting out hoping it is long enough to reach the bottom. Unfortunately it doesn't quite make it to the bottom only going down about 5 metres. Abseiling down the wall by slowly swapping hand I reach near to the end of the rope, letting go I drop to the ground without much of a sound. Dropping to the ground once again I take in my surroundings seeing the field extend out from the wall for quite a few kilometers while being mostly plain with occasional patches of grass. Looking ahead I can see I came across the wall mostly in line with the man and now that I'm a little closer I can make out what got him, it was a Stufful a normally cute and decently weak Pokémon with a powerful evolution I'm willing to bet that the man was trying to catch it and evolve it because even after it evolves he would still keep control of it as he established the initial aura connection.
I push my knees against the soft grass slowly crawling closer while trying to avoid attracting the attention of any of the nocturnal Pokémon in this area, I know that I'm dead if I encounter any ghost types without a Pokémon of my own to defend me or to distract it while I run. Using the shadow from the tower and the wall as partial cover I slowly reach the grass dragging myself through it unable to see much of anything until I see the trail of blood, I'm assuming that this is from the body so I keep pulling myself through the grass until out of nowhere the man, no the boy is laying in front of me and from a quick look I can see that his whole lower body is missing presumably dragged off by the Stufful and from what I can see he has a single pokéball clipped to his belt with his backpack ripped open missing one strap and the other hanging to the bag by a single thread. I go to reach for the pokéball but spot just a metre back hidden from my previous perspective the Stufful. The Stufful looks like something from a nightmare with a red liquid no, blood dripping down from its face onto the ground as it goes in for another bite of the mans leg ripping through its flesh with great ease gorging itself on the plentiful fat coating the leg ripping through sinew and tendons as it feasts on him. Pushing through the fear I reach forward and grab the bag yanking it quickly and snapping the string holding it to the boy it was far louder than I thought and I saw the Stufful look up so I quickly jumped up before turning on my heel and running as fast as possible back towards the wall. From behind I heard the Stufful call out so I accelerated my sprint even further holding the boys backpack by it's open hole as I saw 2 greatballs fall out I knew I couldn't go back for them so I just kept running and while holding the boys bag in my left hand I quickly jumped up to the rope and held on and not a second later the Stufful smashed into the wall underneath me destabilising my balance.
AN: Why only 6 meter's for the wall? Well the Pokémon in the wild area in this universe are going to be mostly the same as the actual Pokémon that spawn there for the most part but you could also find Pokémon that seem to fit in for example you might also find a Shuppet at the even if they don't actually spawn there, either way the tallest Pokémon there is only Golurk standing at 2.8 metre's so there isn't need to build higher than that and the city deters most flying types. Also I personally prefer to use meter's in my writing as it is my countries official method of measurement but if enough people request in the comments (enough being one) for me to add ft and miles in brackets as well for American readers than I will.
Why is Stufful eating a human? Well Stufful is omnivorous and based off of it's Pokédex entry which has it already posed as violent when touched by someone they don't like if a human child went up to it without caution and just tried to capture I think its safe to say it would be pretty pissed and this Stufful just happened to be hungry.
Sorry for the wait between chapters I got pretty bogged down in work and personal stuff and just didn't have the time to work on this story at all but now I have a little more free time with this new job so I can actually put some of my ideas to paper (so to speak)
