Forgive me if my spanish isn't perfect. My parents speak Spanish, but I don't speak it too well. I know a few words, but some I have to research, and since some words used in the Star Wars universe are basically made-up, I have to give my best guess to how they might be said in Spanish for the sake of the story.
I hope you will enjoy anyway.
Please be sure to review, and let me know if you have any ideas for who else Mariverde should target for her mariclavas
While Maraca and Benito went to pick up the package, Fiesta and her oldest brother Sombrero flew over to the market to retrieve the items on the list her masters left.
"What exactly are we looking for?" Sombrero asked.
"Ahsoka said only to get the things on the list." Fiesta explained. "So, rule numero uno, no distractions or treats for us. I just hope Benito and Maraca can remember that too."
While their big brother and little sister were grocery shopping, Benito and Maraca arrived at the IGPS store, where there were a lot of other people waiting to pick up packages.
Maraca got out the device Fiesta gave him and approached a droid for service.
"Perdón? I would like to pick up a package, por favor." Maraca said. "It's for mi amigo, Jedi Master Plo Koon."
Maraca gave the device to the droid, who said they needed to verify the information, so Maraca and Benito would have to wait.
So, the two stallions did, and while they waited, the two of them started chatting with each other in Spanish for a bit, when eventually Benito caught slight sound of some kids snickering at them.
"What could they be laughing about?" Benito wondered out loud.
"Don't worry about them, hermanito." Maraca said. "It's none of their business what we do."
"Keep working on it, and maybe people will be able to understand a word you say," said one boy.
Maraca froze for a moment, and slowly looked at the human who teased him and Benito.
"Excuse me?" Maraca replied.
"Just saying, you got a funny accent right there. I'm guessing Basic's not your first language?"
"No, our familia is from the Caballero district of Equinaro. And Spanish is our first language."
Just then, a droid called Maraca to pick up the package, so he walked over and took it.
"Gracias," said Maraca.
"You might wanna start learning better Basic if you wanna fit in around here."
"Then perhaps you need to learn not to be un fastidio, and improve your modales."
"What?"
"Learn more of our langauge, and you'll understand," said Benito. And he walked out of the post office with his brother.
But, neither of them could get it immediately out of their minds what that boy was saying about them. Sadly, this wasn't the first time they'd been teased about their accents or languages. It happened in Equinaro, and pretty much everywhere they went. People would mock them in all kinds of ways like doing terrible impressions of their accents, speaking Spanish incorrectly (probably on purpose), or saying nasty things like asking them if they got lost on their way to a Taco the Town restaurant or something.
"Can you believe that, Maraca?" Benito said.
"Dejarlo, Benito." Maraca said. "In words these fools can understand, they are just estupido, stupid. We best head on over to meet Fiesta and Sombrero."
So, Maraca and Benito began flying to meet their brother and sister with the package, when Benito's stomach started growling.
"Tengo ambre." Benito sighed.
"When are you not, hermanito?" Maraca chuckled, knowing how Benito loved snacks.
Conveniently, that was when Benito caught a whiff of something cooking.
"Mmm. Something smell delicioso."
"Si. Reminds me of Mami's cooking back home." Maraca licked his mouth, smelling whatever was cooking.
It turned out, there was a market nearby, where folks were selling all kinds of yummy looking stuff. Fruits, vegetables, different kinds of popcorn and candies. Lots of good stuff that folks of all species would like. Even horses.
"I don't think the others would mind if we stopped for a snack." Maraca said. "Especially if we find something to bring the others."
So, the two brothers landed in the path and looked around the market for something good to eat.
Meanwhile, Fiesta and Sombrero were pushing a cart through the store and going over everything that was on the list.
"Is that everything on the list, hermana?" Sombrero asked his sister.
"Let's see." Fiesta looked at the list and the items in the cart. "Leche, frutas jogan, pan multigrano, queso, un variedad de verduras, la mantequilla de mani, y tomates. Si, that's everything."
"Maybe add Basic lessons to the list," said one woman.
Fiesta snorted a gasp as she looked at the woman who said that.
"Maybe add modales, manners, to your list." Fiesta said.
"Dejarlo, Fiesta." Sombrero said. "Let's just go before the familia arrives home."
So, the brother and sister moved the cart to the checkout counter, when they started running into a few more customers, some of which were a little impatient. Fiesta and Sombrero got in line and waited.
"So...how do you feel about un nino entering your rider's familia?" Sombrero asked Fiesta.
"Bien. Turha is un nino bonito, and from what I hear, he is un artista." Fiesta said. "Ahsoka is emocionado to meet her new hermano, and her parentes... they are muy emocionado."
"And I'm getting muy annoyed-o hearing that crazy accent of yours." A teenage girl in line said. "Give it a rest, will ya?"
"Perdon? Do I know you?" Fiesta asked.
"No, thank god. But apparently, you can't talk right."
"Hmph... I don't know what I did to offend you, but my accent is just a piece of where my familia comes from, so excuse me if the lingua you understand isn't my first."
"Where did you learn to speak Basic, anyway? You learn by spying on normal folks?"
"Hey, chica." Sombrero said. "That's enough insulting mi hermana. You wouldn't like it if someone made fun of the way you talk, would you?"
"I wouldn't worry about her," said one man. "At least she talks normal, unlike you two."
"What exactamente is 'normal'?" Fiesta said, flying to get higher than the man's height and getting in his face.
Sombrero didn't bother to stop Fiesta this time, because he was busy reprimanding the teen who insulted his sister, and really giving her an earful for mocking their accents.
And, as it turned out, they weren't alone.
Back at the marketplace...
Benito found a place that sold calabacitas, a favorite dish of his, but when he greeted the salesperson in Spanish, they said, "Could you repeat that in normal words?"
"Those are normal words," said Benito. "You could've just said you don't speak Spanish."
"Oh, I get it. Folks like you need everything spelled out for you."
"Folks like me? What exactly do you mean by that?"
Maraca felt a big uh oh happening right as he was finishing purchasing some apples from another stand, and he rushed over to help his brother.
"Benito, what's going on?"
"This mujer is saying I don't talk normal, and people like us need things spelled out for us."
"People? Ha! You are horses. You're just a couple of animals. Even if you were not, no one can understand you beause of that gibberish you call an accent."
"Gibberish?!" Maraca suddenly got angry. He flew up to get above the woman, and so did Benito. "Let me tell you something, Senorita! You are not the first idiota to mock our accents or the languages we speak, but I speak for all my hermanos and mi hermanas in our community when I saw enough is enough!"
"Maybe you need a taste of what it is like to be teased for your voice!" Benito added.
Meanwhile... on Mustafar...
"Four siblings, all being treated as freaks merely for so much as speaking their minds." Mariverde chuckled. "They want others to have a taste of what they experience? My mariclavas can do just the job."
Mariverde summoned forth four butterflies to her hands and transformed them into mariclavas.
"Go, my mariclavas, and transform all four of them into villains!"
And so, the mariclavas each flew to a separate destination in pairs. And each landed on a different object each pony held. One landed on the rose in Fiesta's mane, another on Sombrero's... sombrero, another on the maracas Maraca had hanging around his neck, and one of Benito's bow tie. Soon, all four of the Cantar siblings were under Mariverde's grasp
"Poor souls, you have been taught to express your voices, yet you have suffered so much mockery for them." Mariverde said.
"Who are you?" Sombrero said.
"Mariverde!" Fiesta exclaimed. "Don't listen to her!"
Fiesta held her head, trying to break out of Mariverde's trance, but her grip was really strong.
"Don't be afraid, my dear. I want to help you. Uno, Dos, Tres, and Cuatro. Together, you are Los Voces. I am Mariverde. I give all four of you the power to turn the tables on those who mocked you for your voices. You shall silence them through their own voices with the power of yours. But in return, you must bring me a crown jewel of Solaris' royal family. Do we have a deal?"
The four siblings, at first tried to break out, but Mariverde held her grip, and then brought out a bit of hypnosis to convince them.
"We have a deal!" All four of the Cantars exclaimed, and they were engulfed in Mariverde's magic as they began to change.
