"Isabella, Athenodora that's enough for the day." Sulpicia said calling an end to her daughter and her mate's fun. If it was up to the two of them Sulpicia had no doubt that they would spend all their time in the training rooms. Athenodora was a warrior at heart and over the years she had made Isabella one of the greatest fighters the Volturi had ever seen. Sulpicia and the other queens had never encountered a vampire as dangerous as Bella. Her gift of being a shield alone made her powerful but her added skills as a fighter made her with no other she wasn't the Volturi Princess Isabella would have been sent out on missions constantly but because she was, Sulpicia and her other two mothers kept her in the castle most of the time.
"But mom we were just getting started." Isabella whined.
"Well now you are finished." Sulpicia told her.
"Isabella we can always come back tomorrow." Although Athenodora was also sad they were being told to stop she knew her mate just wanted to spend time with their daughter.
Isabella sighed. "Ok."
"Come along then. Your momma would like to see you. Apparently you promised to watch a movie with her." Sulpicia reminded her.
"Oh yes she got a copy of the lost movie Rough House Rosie." Isabella said excitably.
"Let me guess it's a Clara Bow film." Athenodora never understood her daughter's love of the movie star.
Isabella rushed out of the room calling over her shoulder "Yup."
"She's incorrigible." Sulpicia sighed happily as she watched her daughter leave.
"Did you see how well she handled those five vampires?" Athenodora asked. "They all had different gifts."
Sulpicia reached for Athenodora's hand and started leading them out of the room following the way their daughter went. "Yes you have turned her into quite the warrior."
"She has far exceeded anything I have taught her. As a matter of fact I find it is I who has learned more from her than the other way around." Athenodora was proud of her daughter. When Isabella had first come to the castle she was timid and didn't have a lot of self confidence. Athenodora and her two mates had spent a lot of time encouraging her and showing Isabella their love for her every chance they got. It had taken a while to get Isabella to break out of her shell but once she did she tackled everything that was put in her path with gusto.
"I still worry she isn't ready for what is to come." Sulpicia said.
"Are you having second thoughts about sending her to deal with the newborn army?" Athenodora asked.
Sulpicia sighed. "I have second thoughts every time we allow her to leave the castle. I know she is more than capable of protecting herself and she will have the others there as well but I don't like the idea she will be going into danger."
"I know love but by everything we have heard this needs to be investigated and Isabella is the only one who can go." Athenodora didn't want Isabella to be that far away from them either but knew her daughter was ready for the responsibility.
"I know this as well. Didyme and I have been waiting to see if the situation will change but I know that it won't." Sulpicia sighed. "I think it is time to tell the others of our plans."
Athenodora put her arm around Sulpicia and pulled her close. "You know she will be just as sad to be that far away from us as well."
"I think she will be more excited than sad." Sulpicia knew that her daughter often times felt restless staying at the castle. The queen worried that when Isabella got a chance to see more of the world she wouldn't want to come back.
"She will come back to us." Athenodora easily picked up on her mate's worries. "Yes she may enjoy being away from the castle but she will be missing us just as much as we will miss her."
"I know." Sulpicia did know. Even if Isabella was only gone for an hour she still texted each of her mothers and was not shy about calling them. Isabella was just as devoted to her mothers as they were to her. "I just wish we could go with her to deal with this."
"Do you want me to go?" Athenodora wanted to offer anyway but didn't want it to seem to Isabella that they didn't trust her.
Sulpicia thought about how she would feel if not only her daughter was gone but her mate as well. Although it wouldn't feel good to have both of them away from the castle she would feel better with Isabella having protection. "Would you?"
"I would but we should bring this up to Didyme first." Athenodora had no doubt that Didyme would agree to her going with Isabella. Out of the three of them Didyme was the most sensitive and fussed over Isabella constantly. The queen had been totally against the idea of Isabella learning to fight because she was afraid Isabella would get hurt. It took Athenodora and Sulpicia both to convince her that it would actually make it so Isabella could protect herself better to let her give the go ahead. Didyme was however banned from the training rooms while Isabella was there because of an incident with Isabella fighting a guard without using her shield and getting hurt. The queen had to be held back by Athenodora and two other guard members from killing the poor guy who landed the hit. The vampire had been quietly transferred to a different continent to keep him out of sight from Didyme.
"What should you bring up to me?" Didyme had heard her two mates as they walked up to the door of the theatre room.
"Nothing my love. We will talk about it later." Sulpicia didn't want to talk about anything in front of Isabella until they had everything completely planned out.
"Come on mom, momma and I waited for you and mother to start the film." Isabella was stretched out on the large couch in front of the screen with her head in Didyme's lap.
Sulpicia smiled at the sight and moved Isabella's body out of the way so she could sit next to her mate with Isabella's body laying over her lap. "Thank you sweetheart."
"Yes thank you. You know how much we wanted to see this with you. It's not everyday we get the opportunity to watch you drool over a woman." Athenodora teased as she sat next to Sulpicia putting Isabella's feet in her lap.
"Leave the girl alone." Didyme scolded. "I think it's sweet she is saving herself for her mate. Just because you conquered as many women as you did villages before you met us doesn't mean our daughter has to follow in your footsteps."
Isabella leaned up and kissed Didyme on the cheek. "Thank you for defending me momma."
"Of course my beautiful girl. Even though she is your mother you shouldn't let her pick on you." Didyme told her.
Athenodora rolled her eyes. "You are to indulgent with her. She has you wrapped around your finger."
"You're one to talk. You who somehow got her hands on that new gaming system Isabella wanted months before it was available to the public." Sulpicia chuckled thinking of all the ways Athenodora spoiled their daughter.
"That wasn't just for me." Isabella said defensively. "Mother likes to play it as much as I do. Besides it was the only console that had that game set in Ancient Greece."
"Of course. She got it for selfish reasons not because you complained to her about having to wait for it to be released." Sulpicia knew that the only reason Athenodora liked to play video games was because it gave her a chance to bond with their daughter. The fact that most of the games they picked out were war and battle themed was just a mate was very competitive and before video games were invented the pair would spend hours playing board games and games from Athenodora's youth. The only game that had been banned was the card game slap jack because of all the tables the pair had broken while playing.
"Do you think you aren't just as bad as the two of us? I saw the shipment of crates you received. I have no doubt that if I look there will be many new additions to your collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts." Athenodora knew that Sulpicia was just as bad as she and Didyme were when it came to Isabella. Thinking about the trip a few decades ago that the queen had arranged for her and Isabella to take to Egypt, Athenodora sometimes thought she was worse than them.
"How about we fight about who loves me more later and watch the movie." Isabella knew if she didn't stop her mothers from arguing that they wouldn't be able to watch the movie for hours.
"Yes, let's watch the film. The film I have spent years looking for that proves I love you the most." Didyme cut off her other two mates from protesting. "Shush you two, don't ruin this for us. Isabella has been waiting almost a century to see this."
"I will let it go for now but don't think I won't be punishing you later for shushing us." Sulpicia sent Didyme a look that would melt a glacier.
"Gross mom." Isabella put her hands over her ears. "I don't want to hear anything about that. Keep it to yourselves."
Sulpicia and the other two queens laughed at their daughter's antics. Prying Isabella's hands from her ears Sulpicia told her. "Just you wait until you get your own mate. You won't be able to stop yourself from trying to get them out of their clothes constantly."
"Don't speak about our baby being like that. She is just a child." Although having a mate was wonderful Didyme hoped it would take Isabella a lot longer to find hers. She already didn't like having to share Isabella with two other vampires so adding another into the mix would be downright depressing.
"She is not a child. She is a 137yr old vampire." Athenodora reminded her.
"Exactly, compared to us she is just a child." Didyme told her.
"Regardless let's watch the film. As Athenodora mentioned we had a few crates delivered and I'm sure Isabella would like to open them with me." Sulpicia had been eyeing the crates since they were delivered to the castle but between their royal duties,Isabella spending time with her friends and her other two mothers they hadn't gotten the chance to look though them. As she motioned to the royal guard to start the film Sulpicia tried to push down her worry about the days to come. Even though with her mate there it was almost guaranteed that nothing would happen to Isabella she was still beyond worried. In all her years in the castle Isabella had never been sent on a mission like this. The extent of Isabella's involvement in Volturi business was standing hidden in the throne room while the queens held court to protect them from gifted vampires because her shield could block not only physical but mental attacks. Hopefully this situation with the animal drinking coven in America would be taken care of quickly so that her mate and Isabella could come home right away.
