So, I've been planning this story for a while, but there were some things and details I wanted to work on, since I've always wanted to do a BTVS/Charmed crossover.
And before we get on with it, I'd rather if I didn't have to deal with power level comparisons and suggestions, since it's just grating and a waste of time to take that anytime someone does a Buffyverse crossover and has to deal with these comments, frankly, I'm not intending to make this crossover a large scale one in the measures of magic and supernatural, but we'll see. Takes place two years after Chosen, after Charmed Forever and Willow and Kennedy are broken up, since Kennedy sucks, nuff said, despite being more tolerable in comics and I'm ignoring the events in follow-up comics, both BTVS and Charmed, since they were off to a good start, but they went to hell later and ruined the characters in one way or another. There will be references to some events here, but among other things, the love triangle between Buffy, Angel and Spike that got dragged out annoyed me.
I've got the basic idea planned out but I'm not sure how often will I update this story and I don't plan on making it very long story, just a few chapters, but who knows. I usually take my time with planning out before getting to writing, but I'm busy with work and personal life, so expect at least one chapter every week.
Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy: The Vampire Slayer or Charmed.
Willow Rosenberg was in the loft pulling the dishes out of the cupboards, when the door opened and a dark-haired woman with emerald green eyes entered with a bag of groceries, taking off her coat and putting it on the hanger.
"Hey, Willow." The woman greeted.
"Hey, Melinda." Willow smiled. "How was work?"
"Ah, a bit hectic." Melinda said.
"So, the usual." Willow nodded, when Melinda noticed the set table.
"Your friends are already coming?" Melinda asked.
"We still got an hour. Haven't seen them in a year." Willow said with a smile, but a saddened look as well.
"Yeah, a lot can change in that time." Melinda said as she went to put the groceries on the counter and pulled out a knife and a chopping board, pulling the meat and vegetables out of her bag. "Best prepare the dinner. Can't wait to meet them after all the stories you've told me about them, especially Buffy and her sister."
"I think they're gonna love your cooking skills." Willow said and Melinda smiled.
"Well, I'm not my mom, but I've learned from the best." Melinda said as Willow approached her. "I hope your friends like Italian food."
"Well, Buffy and Dawn would love to chomp on pizza." Willow said and Melinda chuckled.
"Tempting, but that's not what I had in mind." Melinda said before she turned on the stove and put the meat onto the frying pan, while Willow began cutting the vegetable.
After finishing cooking, Willow and Melinda were setting the table and placing the dishes, when they heard the doorbell.
"Ah, right on time." Willow said as she approached the door and opened to reveal two women, one with long blonde hair, the other with dark hair and a dark-haired man with an eyepatch and a young brunette girl.
"Hey, Willow." Buffy greeted.
"Hey." Willow smiled before kneeling down a bit to hug the younger girl. "Dawnie."
"It's nice to see you, Willow." Dawn said.
"Hi, Will." Xander said as Willow got up to hug him and Buffy.
"So, these are your friends?" Melinda asked and Willow turned to her.
"Hey, guys, this is my roommate, Melinda. Melinda, these are my friends I've known since high school, the ones I told you about." Willow said as Melinda approached.
"OK, so…" Melinda offered her hand to Buffy, who shook it, while Melinda was eying her. "Buffy, right?" Buffy nodded. "You're exactly like how Willow described you. And that makes you Dawn." She turned to Dawn, who chuckled as they shook hands before she turned to Xander. "And Xander."
"Guilty." Xander quipped as they shook hands.
"And that leaves… Faith." Melinda said as she turned to the dark-haired woman.
"Clever girl, she seems five-by-five." Faith said as Melinda looked confused.
"Five by…" Melinda repeated, a bit taken aback.
"Don't mind her, it's her punchline." Buffy said and Melinda nodded after a moment.
"OK, so… welcome to San Francisco. We've got dinner prepared if you're hungry." Melinda said as she approached the table, while Buffy, Xander, Faith and Dawn were taking off their jackets and coats and putting them on the hanger.
"She seems nice." Buffy said.
"We've been living together for three months. And before you tease me, she's strictly in the friendzone." Willow said with a chuckle, when Xander and Faith were about to open their mouths.
"I'm straight, anyway." Melinda said, smiling as she looked at them. "Though there was one incident a couple of weeks back, when there was a storm and fuses went out and she bumped into me, when I was getting out of the bath. Didn't even have enough time to get something to cover myself, when Willow knocked me down the floor. Awkward."
Buffy, Faith, Dawn and Xander laughed, while Willow blushed in embarrassment, all of them trying to imagine the situation, while Willow looked away, trying to make sure they wouldn't see her mortified reaction.
"I wanted to check in on you, it's not my fault you didn't lock the door!" Willow reminded, struggling between laughing or feeling embarrassed. "Besides, it's not like I saw anything private of yours in the dark!" She gestured at Melinda's body awkwardly.
"You bumped into me and we both fell down, when I was butt naked and wet, same thing. I barely managed to get out of the bath without slipping and falling down and it was too dark for me to find a towel to cover myself!" Melinda cracked, all of them giggling at the mental image. "Don't get me wrong, I love you, Willow, but you're not my type."
Melinda put the food on the table, while Willow filled the glasses with wine, except for Dawn's, with her having a lemonade instead.
"So, how'd you and Willow meet?" Dawn inquired.
"Oh, well, when I moved here after… you know…" Willow trailed off and Buffy, Dawn and Xander nodded, remembering the breakup with Kennedy, which was quite loud and not exactly civil, to put it mildly. "I was looking for a job offer and some place to rent and I got an offer to work at Halliwell's as a waitress. A restaurant here in downtown, which Melinda's mother Piper owns. I take the morning shift there."
"A waitress? Yeah, you and Tara used to make good food." Dawn said as the haunted looks briefly crossed the Scoobies' faces, with Willow's and Dawn's being the most profound, which Melinda noticed.
"She seemed like a nice person." Melinda said. "Willow told me about her and for what it's worth, I wish I knew her."
"Yeah, I think she would've loved you." Willow smiled.
The solemn atmosphere was in the air for a few moments before Faith spoke up. "So, is anyone in the mood to eat?"
They gauged Willow's reaction as she took a breath and her face regained its composure, like if there had never been any hint of her being saddened earlier. "Yeah, I think we can do that."
Convinced that Willow was alright, they all began eating as Melinda looked around. "I'm not making the food as well as mom does, but I hope—"
"It's brilliant." Xander said.
"You gotta teach me how to do that, at least I won't have to keep ordering takeout." Buffy said.
"You still beg for pizza, Dawnie?" Willow asked, turning to Dawn.
"No." Dawn shook her head and Buffy and Willow grinned in amusement, since they knew her far too well. "Oh, just stop." She said, rolling her eyes.
A moment later, the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it." Melinda said as she got up from the table and approached the door and opened it to reveal a man with dark brown hair and blue eyes in black sweater and jeans and Melinda smiled. "Hey."
"Hi, Mel." The man said as they kissed each other on their cheeks.
"This must be your boyfriend, right?" Buffy asked.
Melinda and the man besides her chuckled as they turned to Buffy.
"Uh, gross." The man said.
"I can see why you'd think that, but, no. This is Chris. One of my two older brothers." Melinda said. "What brings you by?"
"Uh, I just wanted to let you know that Wyatt and I will be… out of town for a couple of days at least and that Aunt Paige might want your help with work." Chris said and Melinda nodded, glancing at Willow and her friends.
"Oh, you help your family with work?" Buffy inquired.
"Here and there, when I can, I mostly work in the hospital as a medic part-time. Dad used to be a medic a lifetime ago, now he teaches. My aunt is a social worker and sometimes she needs help with… talking things out and guiding lost souls." Melinda said.
"That's nice." Dawn said.
"Are you gonna stay here for dinner? Meet Willow's friends?" Melinda offered.
"Can't, I gotta leave now. Just went to stop by." Chris said and Melinda nodded before they kissed each other on their cheeks.
"Love you, dummy." Melinda said.
"Love you, brat." Chris said as they chuckled before he walked off and Buffy, Dawn and Willow chuckled.
"Reminds you of something?" Willow asked.
"Last time we called each other names was, when, back in Sunnydale?" Dawn asked.
"Hey, at least we didn't call each other 'bitch' or 'jerk.'" Buffy said.
"Yeah, I love 'Supernatural', but the storylines get weird and boring a bit repetitive." Faith said.
"Hey, it gets better later and regains some steam." Melinda said, turning to them.
"Oh, you watch it too?" Dawn asked.
"Melinda had me on a week binge here, when I was bored and I gotta say, I like Dean, but reminds me a bit too much of…" Willow began.
"Me?" Faith asked jokingly. "Yeah, while I think he's hot, I'm not sure similarities would cut it for me, I think Sam might be more my type. I love Dean as a character, but I don't want to date a guy who's like me, at least he doesn't have the same mommy issues the last guy I dated had."
Buffy, Xander, Willow and Dawn rolled their eyes, remembering Robin. While they liked the guy as a principal, when they learned that his mother was a Slayer, it became clear to them that his fascination with first Buffy and then Faith was because of his mommy issues, not to mention how fast had he moved on from Buffy to Faith and his obsession with them was downright unhealthy.
"So, no boyfriend currently?" Melinda asked.
"No." Faith said.
Melinda turned to Buffy, who nodded. "Yeah, I have someone, but… we've got our ups and downs."
Melinda nodded in understanding, before turning to Dawn, who shook her head. "No, I'm not really interested in dating."
"And I hope you don't mind me asking, Melinda, but do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend?" Buffy asked.
"Buffy." Willow shot her a look.
"No, it's fine." Melinda assured. "I've dated my share of guys, but I'm often so preoccupied with work, I never manage to get things up to the serious stage."
"Workaholic, then?" Xander asked.
"Well, if I could choose to take a break, I would, but there's always something to deal with and it's not like I can just ditch work, at least not as often as I'd like, though I got a time off now, luckily." Melinda said and they nodded in understanding. "My Mom and her sisters found their one true love and I'm happy for them, otherwise me, my brothers and cousins wouldn't be here, but I just don't think it's in the cards for me personally. Most of the time I go out with guys a few times, spend a night or two with them, but then we break apart either because our priorities are a bit different or because we know it's not gonna work in the long-term between us. Plus, my family doesn't really have the best record in dating."
"You really must love them." Buffy said.
"Yeah. I do." Melinda said.
"So, how long are you going to stick around here in San Francisco?" Willow asked.
"We might stick around for a few days, maybe weeks. Catch up with Willow." Buffy said.
"We could go out, like old times." Xander said.
"There's a nightclub P3, downtown. My mom used to own it but she sold it to open up her restaurant. The guy who she sold it to is a friend of hers, though, I got a free pass from him." Melinda offered as she pulled out some rubber bracelets from a nearby drawer.
"Sounds like fun." Faith said.
"You're not coming with us?" Buffy asked.
"No, I'd like to but I'm pretty beat tonight, besides, someone has to clean up the apartment and I need to get some sleep, but you guys have fun." Melinda said.
"Thanks." Xander said as they walked off.
"And stay away from the dark alleys, you never know what skulks around them." Melinda said.
Buffy, Willow, Faith, Xander and Dawn looked at each other for a brief second before glancing at Melinda and then turning to Willow, who shook her head before they walked off as they all began wonder… does she know about…
The door closed and Melinda sighed, slumping onto the couch. A shimmer of blue orbs appeared behind her, materializing into a woman with dark blonde hair in a blue and green dress.
"This isn't going to be easy." Melinda said.
"I know. But I'm sure you can do it and look out for her, when I can't." The woman said.
"I hope so. But we both know I can't do this forever." Melinda pointed out, turning to the woman, who sighed.
"I know. I'm just not sure it's the right time for me to come to them yet." The woman said.
"Just tell me if you trust the Elders. Because after what they put my family through, I sure as Hell don't, but right now, I don't see another way." Melinda said.
"I don't like it either, but I'm not sure if there's another way, or at least the one with a better outcome, if there was, I think we both know we'd be taking it already." The woman said.
Melinda sighed, knowing the woman was right. "I'll be there for her, if she needs me, but honestly, I'm not sure if I'm the person she really needs."
"I know. But I trust you will guide her as best as you can and that will be enough to set her on the right path, I know Willow well enough." The woman said.
P3, San Francisco
Buffy, Xander, Willow and Dawn were at the bar in the nightclub, having a drink.
"Dawn, you're not taking a lot of it, do you?" Willow asked.
"I know my limits, I was eighteen, Willow. I know better than to get drunk and screw around." Dawn said.
"Well, at least you do." Buffy said, turning to Faith, who was on the dancefloor jumping and shaking and dancing.
"Some things never change." Willow said with a smile.
"Willow, I need to ask you, does your friend know about…" Buffy trailed off, turning to Willow.
"Yeah, I was wondering the same thing, the way she warned us, when we left…" Dawn said as Willow began thinking. Melinda seemed chill and fine around Willow's behavior and she had more fun comments about Willow studying magic, so Willow had assumed that Melinda was just a fellow geek.
"I don't know. If she does, she never showed it explicitly." Willow said, starting to wonder, whether there was more to her friend than it seemed. "But I don't think she's bad."
"Maybe not… but I think we should keep a close eye on her, it's not that I don't like her or don't trust her but I just have an odd feeling about her. There's more to her than it seems." Buffy said and Willow couldn't deny that Buffy was right, but what it was, neither one of them could put a finger to it.
"She's not a demon or something like that, right?" Xander questioned.
"Xander." Buffy and Dawn glared.
"Well, she's not a vampire obviously. She can walk in the sunlight and not burn." Willow said.
"She's been with you for three months. If she wanted to hurt you, she could've done it anytime. Maybe she's not bad." Dawn said.
"Maybe…" Willow said, though she began to wonder as they drank. Melinda was a sweet and good person, but what secret could she keep from her. Maybe she was also a witch, like Tara, though Willow had to wonder why was Melinda keeping it a secret?
After leaving the club, Buffy, Faith, Willow, Xander and Dawn were walking down one alley before some men approached them and they sighed, the situation was all too familiar to them.
"Well, well, well. What's a bunch of kids doing out here all alone?" One of the men said.
"We're full grown adults." Buffy corrected.
"Really? I wouldn't have known, considering…" The man eyed Dawn with a leery look and she immediately looked annoyed.
Wasting no more time, Faith punched the man and threw him away before she and Buffy began trading blows with them. Buffy pulled out a stake and stabbed the man in the heart as he pulled away, much to her shock.
"Not a vampire. A demon." The man said before he waved his hand, flinging Buffy away and forming an energy ball in his hand.
Faith dodged as he threw the ball at her and they stared in shock. They had never encountered this kind of demons before, so how could they kill them? The demons threw another energy ball at them but next thing they knew, a shimmer of blue orbs appeared in front of the Scoobies, materializing into Melinda, who waved her hand and redirected the energy ball into a wall as it exploded.
"Vanquishing potion!" Melinda cried out as she reached with her hand.
Buffy, Xander, Faith, Willow and Dawn were shocked to see a shimmer of orbs in Melinda's hand before it materialized into a small glass vial. Melinda then threw the vial at the men's feet and the vial shattered with a small explosion going off and the demons suddenly screamed in agony, engulfed in flames, writhing for a moment before vanishing, leaving a scorched spot on the ground before they turned to Melinda, clearly shocked.
"Melinda?" Willow trailed off, lost for words.
Melinda sighed, knowing there was no denying it now. "Willow… there's something else I need to tell you about myself. Something you deserve to know."
Melinda Halliwell is Piper's and Leo's daughter from comics they had after Wyatt and Chris and this is adult Melinda, in her late 20s, played by Katie McGrath, by suggestion from Stand with Ward and Queen and as you've gathered, she's been assigned to Willow as her Whitelighter. I don't have planned for Wyatt or Chris to appear in large capacity here, but we'll see but they will be played by Wes Ramsey and Drew Fuller, the same actors who played the adult versions of them in the show.
As for the woman who Melinda was talking to, I think you can guess who it was.
So, what do you guys think?
Please review and let me know if you have been enjoying this so far.
