Hello everyone, hope you are all well. I'm excited to translate my story and share with you a mixture of two very different universes that I wanted to write about since a long time. Please don't hesitate to share your reviews. My dms are also open for any conversation. Thank you for reading and I wish you all a good lecture :).

In penance for their uprising, each district shall offer up a male and a female between the ages of 12 and 18 at a public "Reaping". These tributes shall be delivered to the custody of the Capitol. And then transferred into a public arena, where they will fight to the death until a lone victor remains. Henceforth and forevermore this pageant shall be known as "The Hunger Games".

CHAPTER 1 : PAYBACK

"Please come in," whispered the woman at the door.

This man entered the house for the first time. As the daughter of the family was watching them from under the kitchen table, he slowly closed the door. He looked suspicious, dressed in the same white uniform as the others. He asked the mother if she was alone. Ignoring her response, he carefully checked the room. Then, he saw her. She could feel his sudden anger in his eyes. He turned abruptly towards her mother before grabbing her arm.

"She won't say anything ! panicked the woman. I swear it, she is only six."

The girl did not move, still starting at the now violent man. Fearful, she bit her finger. The man, while looking annoyed, urged the mother to hurry up. Whispering inaudible words to the stranger, her mother finally walked towards her daughter.

"Faye," she called her. Why don't you go play outside for a bit ?"

She showed a fake smile to reassure the child. Facing her lack of response, she grabbed her hand. She guided her to the garden and asked her to wait here. Faye was, back then, an obedient child. That day, she sat in the grass for hours without never knowing what was really going on inside her house.

Over time, she grew accustomed to the man's presence. She had never seen him without his helmet. Why was he hiding his face ? Why was he visiting them every week ?

A year later, her mother gave birth to another daughter. Faye loved her sister, she made her feel less lonely. When her mother was absent she had someone else to spend her time with. Faye thought she would not see the man again for a while after her sister Rika was born. However, the following week, he did not miss the opportunity to show up.

One day, Faye was in the garden with her sister when she heard a noise from her mother's room. Asking Rika to stay away, she slowly approached the window. She could hear a mixture of crying and moaning. Embarassed, she put her hand over her mouth. She was petrified and terrified to finally understand the harsh reality.

Years passed and for the umpteeth time, Faye closed the door behind her. She was an adult now. She knew a peacekeeper had an intimate relationship with her mother. Peacekeepers served as the principal law enforcement agency throughout the nation, tasked with maintaining order. So far, they were just destroying families according to Faye.

She grabbed the wicker basket in front of her house and walked through the village. She tried to avoid the looks of the other residents. She thought they were looking at her that way because they knew.

Quickly, she faced an electric fence. She turned around, checking that no one was watching her. The sign indicated the area was strictly prohibited. Faye passed under it without hesitation.

She entered the forest and started picking up berries. Her berries were the best. She knew the plants grew earlier around here. It was a risk she was willing to take, to help her family. The market was tough in district eleven. Agriculture was the specialty after all.

Once her basket was full, she cautiously returned to the village. She saw her mother in the distance, cleaning laundry in front of the house. Faye avoided her gaze and entered the house ignoring her. She placed the basket on the kitchen table before cleaning the berries inside a bucket of water. She was planning to make a fortune with those fruits.

"You were again in the forest ?" her mother asked, coldly.

"You were again with that peacekeeper ?" Faye replied irritated.

"You know very well why I do this. I try to protect us and to prevent your names from.."

"..being chosen for the Games, I know. And yet, Rika still died."

Faye violently dropped the berries she had in her hands into the bucket. She gripped the table, suddently upset. In exchange, the peacekeeper made a promise : the names of her daughters had less chances to be picked up during the Reaping. A useless strategy because Faye was lying about her age to still participate in the Games to get food and money. Faye still wondered if he really had that power. Rika's name ended up on the paper last year. She was just a child, she never had a chance to survive.

"It was bad luck," her mother repeated. He could not intervene."

Faye was still gripping the table when tears fell onto it. Her arms were shaking and she started giggling instead. She bit her finger so hard that she could taste the blood coming out. She turned to her mother, making fun even more at her naivety but at the stupidty of the Games too. The system was a vulgar farce. Faye suddently grabbed the bucket and dropped it on the ground. She pushed the table away and threw the berries she had left at the window. All this while screaming about how much she hated everything about her life. Her mother rushed towards her. As she was hugging her, Faye sat on the floor. She was repeating in her head how tired she was of living.

A week later, Faye was sitting in her room when she heard a knock on the door. She jumped, knowing very well who was on the other side. Her mother was not home so she decided to ignore it. More firmly, he knocked on the door again and Faye could now feel his annoyance. Doubtful, she got up and walked slowly towards the door. When she opened it, she came face to face with the same white helmet.

"She is not home yet," she simply said. Come back later."

The peacekeeper held back the door, inviting himself into the house. He looked around, checking if Faye was lying. He suddently stared at her. She could not see his eyes and that was what troubled her the most. She turned her head. He was not going to leave so Faye headed to the kitchen, pretending to wash the dishes from the previous meal. She was anxious, wondering where was her mother. Suddenly, she felt something running down her back. She stepped back, directly bumping into his chest. He was standing behind her, she was paralyzed.

"Stop," she whispered in a weak voice.

His breath was heavy, she could feel it in the back of her neck. He put his arm in front of her, touching her stomach. She found it difficult to think or even to act. His touch disgusted her but she was helpless. Did she even have the right to defend herself ? When his hand dangerously moved to her legs, she smashed the plate she had in her hand to his face. His helmet hit the ground. Blood was dripping from his fingers. Faye's heart skipped a beat when her eyes finally met his. She had never seen anyone so angry before. With a quick mouvement, he grabbed his gun and pointed it in Faye's direction. Her mother entered the house at the same time.

"What the hell is happening here ?" she shouted, confused.

She dropped the wood she had in her arms when she noticed the weapon on her daughter's forehead. She immediately asked him to calm down. Slowly, he turned his head towards her, so his gun. He was now pointing it at her. He looked annoyed that anyone would dare to give him an order. Grabbing his helmet, he put it back on his head without a word.

Reaching the door to leave, he threatened :

-You will pay for this.

From that day on, Faye lived in fear. Every night, she wondered if she was ever going to wake up. Every meal, she suspected the food was poisoned. Every person, she thought they were going to kill her. Her days were counted. The peacekeeper never visited her mother again. She even had the audacity to blame her. Her behavior had destroyed any affection Faye had left for her. She had become nothing but a person consumed by grudge.

Today was the Reaping day. Faye had taken several baths and more than enough time to brush her long brown hair. She had been so stressed lately that she had forgotten the real danger : the Hunger Games.

Her mother entered the room. She looked at her daughter before approaching her. She touched her hair, her cheeks then her shoulders. With a hesitant gesture, she hugged her. Faye let her do so, without wrapping her arms around her. It was stronger than her, she could not feel anything positive for her anymore.

Faye was now in line. As before each ceremony, all citizens had to give a blood sample to allow the leaders of the Games to identify and trace them. When she got to the top of the line, a woman asked her to give her finger. Hesitantly, she showed her finger that was in poor condition due to her anxiety over the last few weeks. The woman took a small amout of blood and placed it on her sheet before ordering Faye to join the ceremony.

They were now all standing in front of the stage. Two bubbles made of glass were filled with names. The tension was disastrous, faces were decomposed. Faye stared at her feet, feeling all the sadness of the world burying her under the ground. She jumped slightly when the usual video started on the screen above them. It was here to explain history. The Games consisted of sending into an arena a girl and a boy from each district, aged between twelve and eighteen, who had to survive and fight to the death. The goal was to remind them of the rebellion of the districts during the war but above all it was to punish them. The Games were, in one way or another, a way to show who had power : The Capitol, a technologically advance city where the richest and most powerful people lived.

Once the video over, the district spokesperson stepped in front of the microphone to welcome them. She seemed delighted to be here and did not hide it. She finally wished them all good luck before annoucing that she was going to draw a girl's name first. She faced the bubble, more than enthusiastically. She put her hand gracefully in it, touching the hundreds of papers with every female name. Faye closed her eyes, praying in her head to be safe. She thought about her sister and how hard it could have been for her. Her heart was beating so fast that her legs started to shake.

"Faye Richards."

She did not pay attention to what she had just heard because she thought it was in her head. However, when several faces turned in her direction, she noticed the woman was also looking at her. Her hands became sweaty. She was having a hard time realizing she was the one. The woman, by her unlucky hand, had just condemned Faye to death.

"Can someone show this girl the way please ?" she asked excited.

Stiff, Faye slowly moved to get out of her row. An unhealthy smile appeared on the woman's lips. Two peacekeepers grabbed her ams to encourage her to move faster towards the plateform. Faye almost tripped while climbing the stairs. Once there, she looked for her mother. She was in the first row, crying her eyes out. Faye realized she was about to lose her second child. For the first time in a long time, she felt sorry for her.

"Now let's move on to the boys," indicated the spokesperson.

Faye felt in a nightmare. She could not be a fighter. She knew how to fight, only with her hands. She had never carried a single weapon in her life. She did not have the self-confidence to be a victor.

"Eren Jaeger."

The boy hesitated for a moment before coming to Faye's side. She could not know what shocked her the most about him : his lack of interest in making a good impression or his eyes. He was not scared at all. If anything, he looked ready to fight. His determination further shattered the very weak vision in which Faye was trying to see herself as victorious.

"Here they are, the tributes of district eleven. Go ahead, shake hands."

The boy turned to Faye, showing his hand directly. She squeezed it, trembling. She had never met this boy before. She had never actually met anyone. This world made her believe no one was good. Who could she trust when her own mother was against her ?

"And don't forget," the woman continud with a smile. Offer your heart and may the odds be ever in your favor."

She encouraged right away the tributes to follow her. Faye pushed away the peacekeeper who was trying to make her move forward. He grabbed her arm violently while Faye was trying to check on her mother. The crowd started to seperate and she lost sight of her. The doors behind them closed and she found herself at the back of the platform. She did not have time to focus on the dozens of heavily armed peacekeeprs that the woman talked again.

"My name is Hange and I will accompany you throughout the organization until the Hunger Games, alongside your mentor."

"Our mentor is the person who will teach us how to survive, right ?" Eren asked.

"Exactly !" Hange replied. He is very happy to receive you. Even though there have not been any other winners in district eleven for years, he will do his best to advice you."

"His advices must not be very good if there were no other winners," Faye whispered.

"I can hear you," she growled.

Faye immediately regretted her words. She was just trying to reassure herself as best as she could. She did not even know her mentor yet that she was already criticizing him. She was scared, she had to blame someone else. She was afraid to accept that she was not capable to win, no matter how much help anyone could give her. Hange, visibly irritated, pointed her finger at me.

"Unfortunately, you can't just win you also need to want it."

Faye did not say a word, knowing well that Hange was right. After this short conversation, the peacekeepers ordered to follow them. They placed Faye and Eren in two different rooms before explaining they had a few minutes to talk to their family. Anxious, Faye sat down on the windowsill. She rested her forehead against the glass, wondering if she was in reality. She closed her eyes, slowly beginning to tap her head against the window. She could feel she was about to die soon and she had no way to prevent it. Without realizing it, her movements became more brutal. She was deeply frustrated. She looked up, checking her own reflection in the glass. Her forehead was completely red.

"Faye."

She jumped, turning towards the person who had just called her. Her mother, in front of the door, seemed empty. She was crying. Her daughter stood up to reassure her. This hug was probably the last.

"I apologize," the woman said between her multiple tears.

She asked Faye to forgive her for her past behavior and the distance she had created between them. Faye remained silent at first, not knowing how to react. She did not want to ruin it so she simply lied. She told her she forgave her.

The visit was short. A peacekeeper entered the room, without knocking, then took her mother away. Few seconds later, Faye was alone again. The peacekeeper told her she had to wait extra time because she only had one visitor compared to the others. Words that only darkened her already very dark thoughts.

The young woman walked around the room in circles, constantly biting her finger. She could not stand being locked any longer. She cautiously walked towards the door and opened it just a bit so she could see what was going on outside. She did not see any guards, no one to stop her. Was this the heroic moment when she tried to escape ? She was no longer thinking correctly, everything was falling apart. Faye left the room, without caring about the consequences. She hurried along the corridors to put as much distance as possible between this place and her.

In front of the curtains from earlier, she did not hesitate for a second. She quickly opened them to end up on that platform again. The crowd had fully left. In a corner, she noticed the presence of a group of peacekeepers near the screen. They had not seen her yet, maybe she had a chance. She quickly rushed towards the stairs. However, when she passed near the bubble containing the girls names, she stopped. Despite her name being already placed on the table, she saw it again inside the glass. Faye suddenly remember the man's words. He said she would pay for fighting back. Her thoughts started to race, the air became unbreathable. With her sweaty hand, she moved closer to the bubble and drowned her hand inside of it.

One paper, then three and finally more than ten. All had her name. She could not believe it, she thought she was hallucinating. Faye backed away violently, dropping all the papers as well as the bubble on the ground.

"You !" shouted a guard. What are you doing ?"

His gun was pointed at Faye. She put her hands in the air, completely panicking. Several peacekeepers rushed towards her direction before crushing her. They pinned her to the ground. She was out of breath, she could not move either. She tried to struggle but ultimately she received a violent hit to the face. She thought her time had come. That was the last words echoing in her head before she passed out.

Faye suddenly woke up. Her breathing was irregular. She looked around her, she was on a train. She touched her right cheek, it was hurting like hell. She suddently realized she was not alone.

"Are you ok ?" the boy asked next to her.

Faye turned her head, meeting Eren's worried eyes. She nodded, not really knowing what was going on. Hange was standing near a counter. She was cleaning her glasses while staring at her. Then Faye looked in front of her. A man, with black hair and a piercing gaze. He was older than her, the position he was sitting in seemed nonchalant. His arms were crossed, he was annoyed.

"Levi," the woman called him. Please give her time to wake up before.."

"You shouldn't have bring me here if you wanted to die before even entering the Games, idiot."
