Many years have passed since Anne became a Silver Sugar Master. She and her warrior fairy, Challe Fenn Challe, got married when she became eighteen years of age, making them the first human and fairy to ever publicly announce their love to the world. There were still a lot of people in the world who considered fairies to be slaves. Anne's new dream was to show the world that fairies and humans should live as equals. At the age of twenty, she gave birth to their son, Gregory Challe, the first ever human/fairy half breed. He had black hair and amber colored eyes, rounded ears and fairy wings. At the age of ten he was able to fly and use magic.
At the age of fifteen, he met a girl named Clover and fell in love. Clover was the daughter of Jonas, the new Vicount to the future king, Edmund the Third. He followed in Anne's footsteps and became a Silver Sugar Master at the age of seventeen, then married Clover a year later. Two years later, Clover gave birth to twins, a boy, Allen Challe, and a girl, Chloey Challe. Sadly, Clover passed away shortly after childbirth. Allen was born with blond hair, amber eyes, and pointed fairy ears. His little sister Chloey was born with wheat colored hair, rounded ears, her right eye was dark like her grandfather Challe, while her left eye was blue as the ocean, and she was born with only one wing, the right wing.
At the age of three, Allen and Chloey were playing in the King's castle while their father and grandfathers were in a meeting with the young king. Allen was chasing after Chloey when she ran into a large room and tripped and fell on the rug in front of the fireplace. She sat up and was about to cry when she felt a pair of small arms wrap around her shoulders. "No cry sissy! Just tripped on a rug, see? You alright!" Allen said as he showed her the part of the rug she tripped on. She smiled happily and hugged her twin. She looked above the fireplace as sparkles caught her eye. Her brother follows her line of sight as he sees a sparkling red jewel embedded in a golden shield. Chloey sees a sparkling blue jewel embedded in a shiny sword.
Both jewels began to glow as two tall fairies were born. A male fairy was the first to form with long white hair pulled back into a ponytail, wearing a blue outfit, similar to Challe's. Yet looking more regal. The female formed with long braided red hair and wore a red amazoness type outfit. When they opened their eyes, the male's were as blue as sapphires while the female's were as red as rubies. Chloey stared at the white headed male in confusion. The male fairy stared right back at her. "Seems like someone is trapped in a gaze." The female fairy said as she looked at Chloey then at the male fairy.
"Sissy! We gotta tell Papa and Grandma! New fairies have been born from the gems in the sword and shield!" Allen said excitedly as he looked at his sister. He looked back at the new fairies and held out his hand. "Follow us fairies! Oh! I almost forgot. My name is Allen and this is my little sister Chloey! If you haven't already guessed, we're twins. I'm the eldest." He said proudly, pointing to himself with his thumb.
Chloey glared at him. "By five minutes." The little girl mumbled as she pouted.
The female gently took the little boy's hand as he led her out of the room and toward the meeting room where their father and grandfathers were. The male looked at the boy as he and the female left the room then looked back down at the girl. He slowly knelt down to her and held out his hand. "Well then. Shall we go, Lady Chloey?" He said as he gently smiled at her.
She stared into his eyes before she smiled and nodded her head. "Yeah!" She said as she happily took his hand. When they caught up to Allen and the female fairy, she looked up at them. "Do you guys have names? I heard from Grandpa that all fairies are born with fairy names." She asked.
"That is true, young one. My name is Rubina Tan Ian, but if you'd like you may call me Rubi for short." The Female called Rubi said.
"What about your name Mister?" Allen asked as he looked up at the male fairy.
"Unfortunately, I do not have one. If I do, then I don't remember it." He said.
"Surely you must have a name. All fairies have one, even you." Said Rubi.
He nodded his head no. "If I do have one then I don't remember it." He said again.
"Well, if he doesn't have a name then we should give him one. Right, sissy? I'm thinking of Albert" Allen said.
"Azure…. Azure Sid Ian. That's your name!" Chloey said as she looked up at the male fairy. "And the two of you would be cousins, since the two of you were born at the same time, yet Rubi from the shield, and you from the Sword."
"ALLEN! CHLOEY! WHERE ARE YOU!" They heard Mythril's voice from the other room.
"Uncle Mythril's calling for us Chloey. That means that Grandma is looking for us again." Allen said.
"Take Rubi to Grandma…. I'll take Azure to Papa and Grandpa Challe. Then we'll all meet up in the dining room. I'm curious to know what kind of jewels they were born from." She explained as she gently took Azure's hand and dragged him towards the meeting room.
"Okay!" He said before they walked towards the room Mythril and Anne were.
As Chloey and Azure walked, there was nothing but an awkward silence between them. Chloey tried not to talk about the situation between fairies and humans. "Excuse me, lady Chloey? I can't help but notice that you and your brother have not only human features, but also fairy features. Why is that?" Azure asked.
"Uhh… Well i-it's because we uhhh.…..O-Oh look we're here. Stay right here until I call for you, okay?" She said as she hid him beside the door, quietly shushing him.
He looks at her in confusion then bows slightly. "As you wish, lady Chloey." He said.
They heard muffled talking from the meeting room. 'Sounds like papa is talking to the king about the new Fairy laws again. But Grandpa Jonas is refusing them as always.' She thought to herself in a sad tone.
"Challe, think of all the scorn and backlash Anne has been through since the two of you got married. While I do agree that fairies should no longer be slaves and treated as equals, I don't think it would be wise to make a law for fairies to marry humans!" Jonas explained.
"I think it's a great Idea Jonas. I think it's time Highland enters a new era, where humans and fairies can live amongst each other as equals." King Edmund III said.
Chloey silently opened the door and snuck into the room as the adults were talking. Challe noticed her but didn't say anything, yet sensed that something was off. He noticed that she was about to pounce on Gregory's back. When she did, he gently caught her before landing on his back. "Not so fast, runt. What brings you here? The adults are speaking." He said as he set her down.
"But grandpa I have to show you all something important!" She said as she looked up at him, then at Gregory, then at Jonas, lastly, the King.
"Sorry honey, but can it wait till after our meeting?" Gregory asked.
"No it CAN'T! It's something very very VERY IMPORTANT! So important that if any of the guards find them they'll be put into the dungeon! Or worse, their wings will be taken away and they will be enslaved, sold at the fairy market!" She said as she looked at everyone, holding onto Challe's coat.
"Them? Who's them?" The King asked as he bent down to her.
She knelt down to him. "My King. Two new fairies have just been born in one of the rooms in this part of the castle. I have brought one of the newborns here while Allen went to Grandma to show her the other." She explained.
"Well now, that is some important news. You said you brought one of them here, correct? Why don't you bring them in?" The King said.
"OKAY!" She said happily as she got up and ran out of the room. Seconds later she brings Azure in by the hand. Challe noticed that he appeared to be a companion fairy, but something was off about him. "Your Royal Highness, Grandpas and Papa! Allow me to introduce you to Azure Sid Ian! Made from a beautiful blue jewel on a sword. Sadly we do not know what kind of jewel it was. Allen has his cousin fairy, Rubina Tan Ian, showing her to grandma now." She explained.
"A blue jewel from a sword, correct? He must be a warrior type like father." Gregory said as he looked up in thought.
"Perhaps I shall test his skills in combat." Challe said as he glared at Azure.
"Not right now, Grandpa!" She said meanly.
"If Azure is a Warrior type, then what is Rubina?" Gregory asked as he looked at his daughter.
"Rubina was born from the red jewel that's on the shield that was next to the sword Azure was born from." She explained.
"Which means, she might be a Warrior type as well." Jonas said.
"We won't know until you guys meet her face to face!" Chloey said happily.
"Chloey, you said that the two fairies were born from a red jewel on a shield and a blue gem on a sword, correct? Are those weapons in the room across the hall from the dining room by chance?" The King asked.
"Yeah. At least, I think so." She said.
"I'm just guessing at this point but I think the jewels on the sword and shield are obsidian." The King said as he looked towards Challe.
"What's Obsidian?" Chloey asked.
"One of the strongest minerals in the world. My father was born from obsidian." Gregory said as he smiled.
Chloey's eyes began to sparkle. "Is that true Grandpa Challe?!" She asked excitedly. He nodded his head. "Does that mean that Azure and Rubina are as strong as you?"
"Possible, but I would have to test their strength first." He said.
"Papa! Can the newborns live with us PLEEEEEASE?" Chloey begged.
"Chloey, they are free fairies. We can't hold them down like they're slaves. It would be completely up to them whether or not they want to stay." Her father said as he picked her up.
"I don't mean as slaves, Papa. I mean as a family. We have LOTS of room at the house. It's been just the three of us there since mama died." She replied. "Besides! Why would we enslave fairies when we ourselves are part fairy. You know how much Grandma hates that law."
"I know, my little butterfly. They can stay with us." He said.
"So what do you say, Azure? Wanna stay with us for the time being?" She asked as she looked at Azure, smiling happily.
"It would be an honor, lady Chloey." Azure said as he smiled and slightly bowed towards her with his hand on his chest.
"I think this meeting has gone on long enough. We shall continue tomorrow morning. Our next order of business is to teach our new fairies about the world we live in." The King said.
"I agree, you're Highness." Chloey said.
Seven years later, the twins had just turned ten years old. Allen, Azure, Rubi, and Challe, were practicing their sword fighting skills behind the house, while Anne was brushing Chloey's hair by the garden as they watched the boys and Rubi practice. Gregory was in the house making his confections that his customers had commissioned. "Focus, pretty boy. Don't get distracted by your surroundings. Allen, keep your arms straight. Rubi, remember that the bow and arrow are extensions of your being." Challe explained as Azure attacked with a wooden buster sword but Challe dodged it.
"Can we take a break, Grandpa? We've been at this for hours now." Allen said as he dropped to the ground, out of breath.
"Fine. We'll take a ten minute break." Challe said.
Allen and Rubi sighed in relief as they sat back to back. "I can still keep going. I'm not tired." Azure said as he put his wooden buster sword behind his head.
"Az, you have been practicing day and night since Master Challe offered to teach us how to fight. You need to rest." Rubi said.
"I need to get stronger. I have to get stronger, so that I can protect Lady Chloey and her family." He said as he started swinging his sword again.
"Azure, it's my job to protect my sister. As the elder brother, it's my responsibility to look after her. You and Rubi won't always be around to protect us when something goes wrong….. Look, I know you feel bad for what happened two years ago with Chloey and dad, but you can see for yourself that she is fully healed from her injuries, and dad has his wing stored in a special place, so that no one can find it." Allen said.
"And yet, if it wasn't for Rubi and I, then the two of them wouldn't have gotten hurt in the first place." Azure said as he jabbed his wooden sword in the ground.
"What exactly happened two years ago, Allen. Gregory is reluctant to tell us, yet I have noticed that he only has one wing." Challe asked.
"Dad and Chloey were having a father daughter day with just the two of them, dad thinking that they wouldn't need Rubi or Azure, thought he could protect her when they got attacked by Fairy hunters. Azure sensed something was wrong with her and flew off to find them. By the time he got to them, dad's wing was already torn off, Chloey was protecting it from the hunters no matter how hard they beat her up. Azure hasn't been the same since then. I think it's because he saw her get hurt." Allen explained.
"He wants to be the one to protect her when you aren't with her." Challe said as he watched Azure swinging his sword.
"Him and Rubi have been acting like an older brother and a mother to us since they were born. But ever since then, he's been more protective of both of us." Allen said.
"In my honest opinion, I think Master Challe, Azure, and I are a rare or undiscovered type of warrior fairy. A type that appears as companion fairies, but have orders from our masters to protect something that's precious to them. But for us, we are protecting those who are precious to us, which are all of you humans." Rubi said as she looked down at him and smiled.
Rubi and Allen continued their training by sparring against one another. Challe walked over to Azure and blocked one of his attacks. "You're not nearly strong enough yet, but if you're really willing to risk your own life to protect our family, then you must beat me in a duel. For now, train against me and rest when we rest." He began to explain as they sparred. Challe catches Azure off guard and uses his wooden sword to knock his wooden buster out of his hands, knocking him to the ground. He points his sword's tip to his neck. "No warrior fairy can keep training from dawn to dusk without resting, not even you."
He laid down on his back as he panted. "What else can I do, Master? Fighting is about all I'm good for, and I can't even do that right. I must be a defective fairy or something." He said.
"HEY! DON'T BRING YOURSELF DOWN LIKE THAT, AZURE! YOU ARE DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT!" They hear Chloey's voice from behind them. Challe turned around to see her, Anne, and Gregory. Chloey stared at Azure in anger as she crossed her arms. "Aside from Grandpa, you're the best warrior fairy I know. If you keep training as hard as you have been but also rest when you need to, then you'll beat grandpa and even surpass him in no time. It'll take time to get as good as grandpa, but I know you can do it, so don't just give up. You've come so far already." She said as she looked off to the side shyly, a small pink blush appearing on her cheeks.
He looked at her and smiled. "You're right, Lady Chloey. I can't give up now, not when there are still humans I need to protect!" He said as he stood up. He reaches to grab his wooden buster sword but she grabs it before him.
"First you need to rest. You've been training way too much recently and we rarely get to see you anymore." She said, avoiding eye contact with him.
His smile grew as he knelt down, bowing to her. "My apologies, milady. From now on I shall use my time more wisely, rather than use it for just training." He said. She smiles at him and nods her head.
