Washington DC was not the most relaxing place to live in America. He had worked that one out the moment he had moved into his new apartment on the East side of the city. He had never expected to end up working out of the headquarters of the FBI but here he was. A newly appointed federal agent. He smiled to himself, after everything that had happened, from finishing high school, college, finding out he was adopted to his adoptive parents disowning him for his less than conventional look on the world. He tugged on his tie self consciously as he saw his partner walk towards him.
"You sure about this?"
"Using my birth name rather than my adoptive one?" He looked up as the young man nodded. "Yeah. Feels like a new start."
"William Mulder." The other man tried the name. "Suits you, Billy."
"Not Billy." William shuddered. "Not that."
"No, I think you are definitely not a Billy." The blonde man laughed before kissing him. "You know I love you, whatever name you use. Your parents."
"They say they aren't"
"Homophobia is something people have to unlearn. Give them time. The first reaction is not always the best or final reaction. My grandpa had a fit but he loves you now. You know that."
"He's a great man and he has never disowned you."
The blonde man smiled. "Well, Agent Mulder."
"Ohh I like the sound of that." He laughed as his boyfriend sighed. "I'll see you tonight? Yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Right then." William got to his feet. "And I love you too, James." He walked away leaving the high school teacher to watch him go.
