I couldn't believe what the last 3 months included. I was now officially 30 weeks, along in my pregnancy, Cami and Jensen were adjusting well to being raised Dauntless, and slowly coping with the loss of their parents, as well as accepting me and Eric as their parents. Chris was 2 months along in her pregnancy, Will still refused to make peace, with it, But Caleb was already the best dad to that little baby, and I can tell that baby will be the most loved. Uriah, Marlene, Zeke and Shauna all got married, 2 weeks ago, and seriously couldn't be happier for them. Four's seriously really stepped up with helping Eric and I, even Caleb and Chris, Anything Me or Chris needed, He'd get even if Eric and Caleb already insisted, he just started dating a pretty girl, name Carly, she was one of the transfer's from our group.
"Tris? Can you help me with this question please?" I heard Jensen ask, as I stirred the tomato soup. "Sure buddy. What's up?" I usually worked the school hours, so I could be home with Cami and Jensen during the afternoon. I helped Jensen with the problems, before I kissed his forehead. "Thanks." I smiled as I felt a sharp couple of kicks.
"Ow…" I said gripping the chair in front of me. "Tris?" Jensen said as he came over. Cami ran in "Tris! I'm Hungry!" "Cami go play in your room." Jensen ordered, causing Cami to run from the room in tears. "Jensen, you were too harsh…" I said through the pain. I managed to sit, with Jensen's help. "I'm sorry, I know I was. I just didn't want her to see you in pain…" He stirred the soup before going to his sister.
Jensen: Hey Eric… Sorry to bother you during work hours, but I think something's wrong with Tris… She doubled over in pain, not just baby kicks pain or Braxton hicks level of pain… I got her sitting and drinking water, but I yelled at Cami too. I'm trying to juggle a few things, and help Tris… I just can't do everything.
Eric: I've called Aunt Marlene to come over and check her out, thanks Son. I'll be home soon.
Jensen came back in with Cami, who sat at the table. "Here. This should hold you over till dinner." Jensen said, handing Cami a plate of peeled oranges. "Thanks Jensen." I said, as he stirred the soup, and started to prepare the sandwiches. "Don't worry about it." "Tris? Jensen? Cami?" "In the Kitchen!" I called as Marlene entered. "Hey. Eric called me." I looked to Jensen. "I didn't know what else to do." He shrugged. Marlene checked me, and then said "Okay, Tris… I don't like what I'm seeing." Jensen said "Wait, before you say anymore…" He grabbed a pen and Paper. "Okay. Go on."
Marlene chuckled fondly, before she said "The twins are trying to come a little early." I said "they can't." Marlene said "We can stop it, I'll have to bring the medicine, or send Uriah…" "I'll do whatever it takes." "Okay, that also means, bedrest, and you're going to need someone to be here to help take care of things." I said "Shouldn't be a problem." Marlene nodded and said "Alright. So, I'll be back with the medicine, in a bit. Don't move." I nodded. Jensen put the paper down before turning his attention back on the sandwiches and soup, while Marlene left. "Hey I'm Home." Eric's voice filled the apartment. "In the Kitchen!" Jensen called as Eric's footsteps entered, Kissing Cami's forehead, ruffling Jensen's hair, before kissing my lips then belly. "Hi." I whispered. "So, what happened?" I took a deep breath, as Cami continued coloring, and Jensen finished dinner. "The twins are trying to sneak out early…" Eric said "What? Tris, Oh my god…"
Jensen said "Calm down. She's already going on medicine to stop it, and she's going on bedrest." Eric looked to me, and said "Well what can I do?" Jensen said "Nothing. I got everything under control." He sat the plates and bowls on the table, in front of each spot. "What does that mean?" Eric asked, as we ate. "I'm taking the GED and leaving school early. I'll only have to go back for aptitude testing." I looked to Eric. "Jensen that is not necessary." I stated, while Eric said "She's right." Jensen said "I don't have the ambition for school, besides I want to be useful. You guys will need help, especially with you working Eric." After dinner Cami ran to play, which is when Eric said "What's the real reason for this decision?" Him and Jensen were washing the dishes. "The first part is the truth. I don't have much energy for learning, anymore. But the other reason… Is… I want to repay you guys, for everything you've done, for us… For Cami and me. You've been raising us since mom and dad's death, you've taken us into your home, made us feel so loved, safe and secure. You've both given us a family, and one we've been missing… I mean we could never repay you for all this… And… Now with Mom's diagnosis, it's making me even more sure. I'll take care of everything while you work, and I can get a job and help out with groceries. It's what I want." I felt tears in my eyes.
"Jensen you don't have to repay us. You're family. You and Cami. We'd do this for you even if you weren't. We love you, and did you just call me mom?" I said as the tears started cascading down my cheeks. Eric said "She's right you know. You don't have to do this." Jensen looked to Eric, before me. "I want to, and I did. IS that okay?" He said coming over to me and giving me a tight hug. "Of course, it is sweetie. And as long as this is what you want, then…" Eric came over, and hugged us. "We support you. I was thinking of doing half days in the office, and half at home, so if you wanted to, you could get a job in the afternoons." "Thanks dad, and mom." Jensen said hugging Eric, and I once more. "Why don't you go play with Cami? I'll finish up here." Jensen nodded, before running off. Eric returned to the dishes and said "That makes me feel more at ease." I nodded and said "me too. But how do you feel, about him calling you dad and me mom?" Eric dried the last dish before putting it away and coming over to me. "Honestly? I feel proud, and honored. I was hoping he'd call us that, him and Cami… But I didn't want to make them feel obligated. What about you?" I said "I feel the same way you do." I heard the door open, before Marlene came over to us. "Here's the medicine." She gave Eric the run down, before leaving. I took the pill before, Eric carried me to the living room. "Dad!" Jensen called, as he carried a crying Cami over to us. "What happened?!" I said as I pulled Cami into my arms, while Eric checked for injuries. "She was jumping on the bed. I told her not to, I didn't want her to get hurt… She fell off the bed, and broke her arm… I'm…" Jensen explained, as Eric said "It's okay son. I promise. Can you run and get Aunt Marlene?" He nodded and ran out the door. "It hurts mama." Cami cried into me, while Eric held her broken arm. "I know honey. It's going to be okay." I whispered, as Eric made a makeshift splint. Marlene returned with Jensen, and she made a cast, and sling for Cami. "There princess. All better." Cami sniffled against me. "Thanks Mar." She smiled and said "Don't worry about it. I'm here for you guys. It's late though, Get some sleep." She left, after a round of hugs. We read the kids a story, and got them tucked into bed, okay Eric did, before he returned and lifted me into his arms. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked, as I snuggled into him. "No." I whispered as Eric laid me in bed. "Ow..." I moaned a hand flying to my stomach. Eric noticed and placed a hand on my belly. "I'm going to call Marlene." Eric said, as he called Marlene. "Hey it's me... Can you come over? I'm worried about Tris and the babies... She's in a lot of pain... Okay, Yeah, I'll get her there... Let me get Four." He hung up and called Four. "Hey, Four... I hate to ask... But I need a favor... Can you come over and stay with Jensen and Cami? Me and Tris have to go to the Erudite General. Thanks." Eric kissed my head, lovingly. "Hey it'll be alright." When Four came Eric took me to Erudite. Upon entering he sat me in a wheel chair. "Hi, My wife's 30 weeks pregnant... and seems to be in labor." Eric said, while I fought tears. Before I knew it, we were in a room, up on labor and delivery. "There we go. Now let's see what's going on." The doc ran all sorts of tests, while I kept my eyes on Eric. "I'll be back." The doc said, before leaving. I felt Eric sit beside me, as my head fell to his chest. "Did I cause this??" I whispered. "No. They are just excited to meet their mommy." Eric soothed. "We never picked out names..." "I always like Clarissa and Max personally." Eric replied. "I love it, Clarissa Kalli Natalie Coulter, and Max Andrew Jacob Coulter." "And what if it's two girls or Two Boys?" Eric asked. "Then one can be Clarissa Kalli, and the other Natalie Grace, and for our son's Max Andrew, and Jacob James." Eric smiled. "Perfect." He whispered, before wrapping his arms around me, causing me to lay against his chest.
When the doctor returned, he had a solomn look on his face. "What's wrong?" Eric asked, before I could even ask. "I'm afraid, the reason the medicine didn't work, is because your labor, is farther along than it usually works for... You're at 8 cm..." My eyes widened. "You didn't even feel the contractions?" I said "No. Not until our son called Eric..." Eric said "You're tough as nails." We looked to the doctor. "so this is it? They'll be here today?" he nodded. Eric looked to me kissing my head. "We got this."
Jensen: Hey dad, just dropped Cami off at school... are you okay? Is Mom? Why's uncle Four watching us?
Eric: Thanks son! I'm fine, mom's fine. Uncle Four is staying with you because we asked him to and because Mom and I are at the hospital... Don't worry, we're just checking on the babies.
Jensen: Okay…
Eric: Hey Four, Don't let Jensen know, what's going on, But Tris is in labor, and unfortunately, we can't stop it, so we're going to have to stay here, for a few days. I'm worried man… Tris is staying positive, and I'm trying to as well. I'll update you soon.
Four: Hey man. I wont I promise. Him and Cami will be safe. Just focus on Tris for now. She's got this, and so do you. You guys are strong, and if you need anything, You got the entire faction in your corner.
Eric: Thanks man.
When the doctor came back in, he had a nurse with him. Once he checked Tris he said "Alright, Whose ready?" We nodded.
~Eric's Prov~
"Alright. Tris, on the count of three I want you to push as hard as you can." Tris nodded. "Alright. 1… 2… 3." Tris pushed but cried out in way more pain than I expected. I slid behind her, to ease some of the pain. "Good one. Again… 1… 2… 3." Tris tried to push again, but couldn't. I helped her push forward, keeping her secure in my arms. "Good. It'll be okay, Tris. One more push and baby A will be out, then we can get baby B out." Tris nodded, I knew she felt weak. "1… 2…3" I helped her push once more, before cries filled the room. "Baby A is a girl." The doctor held her up so we could see her. I had tears in my eyes, and when I craned my neck enough, to see my wife's face I could see the tears. The doctor handed our daughter to the nurse.
"Alright Baby B, needs to get out now. 1… 2…3" I helped Tris push hard again. I hated feeling her weak body against mine. "Good… again! 1… 2… 3." I helped her again, then once more, before our son's cries filled the room. "Baby B is a boy!" the doctor announced, as He held up our son. I felt tears cascade down my cheek as did my wife. "they're perfect." I heard Tris whisper. I moved from behind her, so she could lay back. "We're going to take them and run tests, we'll update you soon." I nodded, as Tris's exhausted eyes met mine. "Thank you." She whispered. "My pleasure." A few hours later, a young women entered pushing the glass cribs in. "
"Hi, I'm Dr. Jackson. You're Tris and Eric… Couliter?" "Coulter." I corrected. "My apologies. Nice to meet you. Your son and daughter are extremely healthy, despite being 10 weeks, premature, we did give them a couple shots, to help their organs develop quicker, but other than that they are just fine." She smiled. Tris said "thank you." Dr. Jackson said "What are their names by chance? The entire NICU staff have been dying to know."
~Tris's prov~
I couldn't believe that the labor was so hard on me. I didn't expect to feel so weak, but so strong at the same time. It was worth it. They were worth it. Eric's strength behind me kept me going, easier. "Our Daughter's name is Clarissa Kalli Natalie Coulter." Eric said, before handing me our daughter. "And our son is Max Andrew Jacob Coulter." Dr. Jackson said "Beautiful names, and good strong ones too." We thanked her before she stepped out to give us some privacy promising to return in a little bit to check on us.
Clarissa started crying, hungrily. "Awee, are you hungry baby? Don't worry, mommy's going to fix that right up." I smiled, as I pulled my gown down, enough for to help her latch on. "There we go, little princess." Just then our son started crying. "Are you hungry too little one?" Eric cooed, before helping him latch on the other side. "there we go buddy." Eric whispered, helping me hold them. "Great time for the baby shower to be next week…" I sighed.
Eric: Hey Four, I know the baby shower's next week, any chance you could ask the team to bring the stuff they bought, to the apartment and get it set up? Also, can you get the big box in mine and Tris's room, and either bring it up later, or have Max bring it up?
Eric: Hey Dad. Me and Tris are at Erudite General. Can you come up in maybe an hour? We have a surprise for you.
Four: I'm not sure when I'll be able to come up… I'll send it with Max.
Four: Hey Max. Can you come by Tris's and Eric's before you go?
Max: You Got it Four.
Max: Sure, Son. Everything Okay?
Eric: Thanks Four!
Eric: Yes. We'll explain when you get here.
"Hey Eric? Can you…" I started, as Eric came over taking Clarissa, and gently burping her, as a lactation nurse came in. "OH sorry to disturb, I'm Jenna. I'm a lactation nurse. I am here to help you learn how to breastfeed, but I see you're already doing wonderfully." I removed my son from my chest before burping him. "I kind of just did what felt natural." Jenna said "I see that, there is one thing, I would suggest if I may?" I looked to Eric who nodded. "Sure." Jenna said "By chance do you have a nursing pillow? It looks like a half circle with an opening, so it could slide around your waist, It'll make it more comfortable, and relieve some of the pressure on your stomach." I said "Oh, No, we don't have one…" Eric said "I'll ask Dad to grab one."
Eric: Hey Dad, Can you get a nursing pillow for us, when you come?
Max: A nursing Pillow? Sure, I should be able to find one.
"Good." After an hour, there was a knock on the door, as Eric laid Clarissa and Max down in the crib, before going to the door. "Hey Dad. Come on in." I pulled my gown up, a bit more. "Hey dad." He smiled coming over setting a box and bag down on the table before hugging us. "So what's the surprise?" He said sitting on the bed, facing us.
"Well, We came in last night for Tris when her pain didn't subside, and the doctor's ran tests, and discovered she was almost fully dilated, so we waited a bit longer, before she was ready to push. She gave birth to two perfect healthy babies, naturally… With my help." I smiled to Eric. Max said "and they're okay? And Tris? You're okay?" I nodded, and said "We're all healthy. I've been getting IV fluids, since and a blood transfusion, cause I suffered a bad bleed, shortly after. But I'm feeling stronger than ever."
"I'm glad. So where are they?" I looked to Eric, who lifted our son out and handed him to me, before picking up our daughter. "Meet Clarissa Kalli Natalie, and Max Andrew Jacob." Eric and I chimed. Dad's eyes filled with tears, hearing the names. "You've been a father to me since I arrived. Even when Tris and Caleb came, and Tris and I started our relationship, You never once second guessed us or anything. We wanted to name our children, either middle name, or first after people who made a difference in our lives. You're one of them." Eric said, as Max hugged us tight again, being careful of the babies. "Can I hold one?" He asked, as I nodded. "Just…" Dad quickly washed his hands before I handed him, little Max. "He's perfect." After a few minutes he switched with Eric, and took Clarissa in his arms. He visited for the afternoon, but before he left I said "Wait, Dad. Can you take a picture of us?" I held Clarissa so she was facing him, as Eric settled next to me, holding little Max, in the same position. "Sure." He took a bunch of pictures of us, then sent them all to us before saying he'll take care of Cami on the weekend, since today was Friday, and Jensen might be working. We thanked him before he left.
I nursed the babies again, before we burped them and laid them in the crib, just as Dr. Jackson, and my doctor came in. "Hi, How we doing in here?" "We're good." Dr. Jackson said "Well, the twins are healthy so they won't need a NICU stay, but we don't recommend anyone else holding them, right now." Eric said "What about her father? He visited with us all day, and this was before you told us, this news… He held them…" Dr. Jackson said "He's fine, but really, no one else, but hospital staff, you both and her father. Okay?" We nodded. "Fair enough. When can I take them home?" Eric asked. "Sunday." I nodded. The next few days we became accustomed to being parents, to newborns. Finally Sunday came around and we were discharged. Four was waiting with the car. "Hey Tris. Ready?" I nodded, to Eric, as we left. Once at the car, Eric got in, and I handed little Max's car seat in. Once Eric confirmed it was secure, I handed Clarissa's in, before hopping in. Four had brought our stuff down earlier. "So Are you going to wait to tell us the names till we're home where there may or may not be a big welcome home party?" I looked to Eric. "there's a welcome home party?" He nodded, as he drove home. "Well then we're waiting."
Once we got home, we got out before getting the car seats out. "they're little angels." I whispered, as Eric and I stared at our sleeping babies. Four got most our stuff before locking the car, and letting us into the compound. "Welcome to Dauntless, our loves. This is where your going to grow up, with a whole family who already love you so much." I said, as we walked. Once we reached the house, Eric unlocked the door, and we entered, to see all our friends and family there. "Welcome home!" They whispered, so they didn't disturb the babies. Cami and Jensen ran over and gave us hugs, as we sat the car seats down. "Hey. Thank you guys." I said, smiling. Eric and I unclipped the car seats as Four sat everything down. "So before anyone asks, right now, since they are 10 weeks early, no one can really hold them besides me, Eric and dad… Just to make sure, they don't get sick." They nodded, although we could tell they were bummed. "So What are there names Bea?" Caleb asked. I smiled, as I held our son, and Eric our daughter. "Well, I'm holding Clarissa Kalli Natalie." Eric announced, with a smile, I couldn't help but notice Jensen and Cami had tears in their eyes, proud ones. "And I'm holding Max Andrew Jacob." The cheers were strong. We placed the babies in the swings in our room, before we rejoined the party. We visited with our family, but slowly they dispersed, and Jensen and Cami went to bed. Caleb and Chris were the last ones here. "Hey Bea? Before we leave.. I love the names you chose. Mom and dad would be proud. And they would be so incredibly proud of you too. Both of you." I smiled, hugging him.
