Paralogue Eight: One Missed Call

Markus walked out of the choir room with a smile on his face. The kids were talented, but more importantly they had the enthusiasm Markus had been hoping for. As he tapped through his wrist tablet, he noticed he missed a call from Rui. He hit the button to return her call. It was Wes who answered. "Markus, thank fuck. How fast can you get to Phenac City. I can't find Rui." Markus would have dropped the phone if it weren't strapped to his wrist.

"Can't find her at all? Shit, shit, shit!" Markus tugged his earbuds from his pocket and connected them to his tablet. "What happened? When did you see her last?" Wes was silent for a moment. "Rui got a call approximately thirty-five minutes ago from an unknown number. She left the house, without her phone, apparently, about five minutes later. I wouldn't think anything of it if she hadn't received a bunch of details about Team Rainbow Rocket about four days ago. Do you still have clearance? I don't actually care, anyway, get your ass to Orre. I need help." Markus affirmed he would be there as soon as possible and dialed director Clavell.

"Yes, Mr. Vaughn?" He asked. Markus gave a brief description of the situation and told the director he needed a week away. "And have you phoned the International Police?" Clavell asked. Markus explained that Wes was a fellow officer, and that the department was probably moving into overdrive to find Rui. "I was one of their finest, sir. I'll be back on Monday if you grant my leave."

"Godspeed, Mr. Vaughn." He said as he hung up. Markus made his way to Nurse Miriam's office. As he entered, Nurse Miriam looked up from the injection she was giving. Markus stopped and Miriam turned back to the student. After the injection had been administered, Markus brought Miriam up to speed on the situation. "So now I'm off to Orre to find my best friend. I'll be back Monday. Take care of yourself, Mirri." He kissed her on the forehead and she wrapped her arms around him. "Don't die, Markus."
