Kara put Dani down in the playpen where Kalvin and Asher were.
"Okay, all changed, I'm going to go check on your mommy," Kara said to her niece; she had arrived today just after Kayla had brought Caitlin home from an early morning chemo treatment. Kayla then had to take Topar and go to set. The Santa Clause 6 having officially started filming.
"Caitlin?" Kara said heading into the main bedroom. Roxie was on Krypto's bed but Krypto had left with Kayla that day. The bed was messed up and the master bedroom bathroom door was close. "Caitlin...?" Kara knocked on the door.
"Go away," Caitlin said back, and normally Kara would but she didn't like the sound of Caitlin's voice so Kara did something she wouldn't do normally and used her x-ray vision to check inside. Caitlin was fully dressed but sitting on top of the toilet seat with a clump of hair in her hands and was crying.
"Caitlin, I can see you and I'm coming in," Kara said, knowing Kayla was too busy to ask anything through their bond and knew part of the reason she was here was to handle things like this.
Kara opened the door and Caitlin didn't protest, not even when Kara bent down and took the hair piece away from Caitlin. She could see where it had come out from her scalp - a big hole in her hair line. "Caitlin, you knew this was going to happen," Kara said, going to wipe a tear away from her sister-in-law's eyes. "Kayla will buy you the best wigs there can ever be. You won't even notice your hair loss."
"I know… It's just... hard…" Caitlin said and Kara couldn't put herself in the same position; she didn't know how she would react, so Kara did the only thing she could think of. She picked Caitlin up and brought her into the room and onto the master bed. Kara hugged Caitlin close to her and let the woman cry.
"Roxie, go to the kids," Kara said and the dog was obedient and jumped down, running out of the room and Kara could see her joining the three nearly one-year-olds thanks to her x-ray vison.
Kara wasn't sure how long she sat there with Caitlin. She hugged her and rubbed her back as Caitlin cried into Kara's shoulder.
Finally, the tears lessened and Caitlin seemed to calm down. "Thank you, Kara," Caitlin finally said after a moment.
"Any time," Kara said.
"You know I was a little upset at the idea I needed you here to be a nanny when I am home, but Kayla was right and I am happy you're here with me," Caitlin said and Kara nodded as Caitlin got off her lap and sat on the bed. "Having you to cry into felt like having Kayla hold me."
"You know you only had to say the word and Kayla would have moved heaven and hell to get out of her contract for the movie and be here with you," Kara said.
"But I want her acting," Caitlin said quickly. "It gives me comfort with her doing her job."
Kara decided not to argue with that. If Caitlin liked the idea of Kayla being at work, who was she to argue? Besides, Kara had another topic to bring up. "Now, I think you have two choices here," Kara said, making Caitlin pause. "You can wait for more hair to fall out and get upset every single time or we can get a razor right now and shave off the rest."
Caitlin took a breath. She loved her hair, but she knew Kara was right. Her hair would fall out eventually. It might be better to just get it over and done with. Caitlin gave Kara a nod and that was all the confirmation Kara needed.
She and Caitlin went back to the bathroom where Caitlin found the razor and Kara helped her shave off the rest of her hair.
"Don't tell Kayla," Caitlin said when they were done and she was looking a herself, bald, in the mirror.
"Ah, she's a bit busy to even look into my mind right now," Kara said giving Caitlin a wink.

Kayla was busy filming the first meeting between Cal, the future Santa Clause, and her character, Holly along with her character's son - obviously played by Topar.
"You sing beautifully," it was Cal who said it.
"My mommy is the best," it was Topar, who was also in the scene as well.
Kayla smiled and put an arm around Topar, pushing him slightly so he was standing the right spot. Topar was still learning a bit on cues and where to go and how. Kayla helped direct him as best as she could. "I'm alright. My son here thinks I'm amazing at everything," Kayla said. "Nicky, this is Cal. Say hi."
"Hi," Topar said.
"Well, hello," Austin Kane, the actor playing Cal said, giving him a smile. "I didn't realize you were married?" He looked back at Kayla.
"I'm not," Kayla said, acting nervous like her character was supposed to. "Well… not anymore… it's…"
"My daddy is in heaven," Topar said his line. "But it's okay. Santa will bring me something special this year to remember him with."
"I'm sure he will," Austin said, and out of his pocket he took out a toy car. "How about this, a little early?" Topar gave a big smile as he took the toy and ran off, so to play like the script said.
"And scene!" the director called. "Take five, and we're going to do it again."
Topar handed the toy back to Austin who gave him a smile as he walked off to a table that had some food and drinks on it.
"Aunt Kayla, can I get a muffin?" Topar asked.
"Just one," Kayla said, and Topar ran off to the table, Krypto jumping off from his position to the side of the set to follow the boy.
"Must be nice working with your nephew," a familiar voice spoke, and Kayla turned to see Tim Allen standing there. He was dressed up like Santa Clause, so still had the big fake belly on and the white beard. He, too, was filming scenes today with Austin.
"It is," Kayla said giving a smile. She was really glad Topar had wanted the part and gotten it. "Isn't your youngest daughter here, playing an elf?"
"She is," Tim Allen said with a nod. "How's your wife?"
Kayla was getting used to the question. With her fame it had been impossible to keep Caitlin's cancer a secret so they hadn't even tried.
"It's hard but she's a fighter," Kayla said knowing that. "My sister is with her and when not filming, I'm spending every free second with her and our girls."
"Good," Tim said patting Kayla shoulder. "Take it from someone who has been in this business longer than you. Always make time for family."

After shaving her head, Caitlin went to sit on the couch in the living room as Kara got lunch ready for the kids and her.
"Okay," Kara said, sitting down next to Caitlin after giving Caitlin some food she was just playing with - she didn't have much of an appetite, "it's these three first birthday coming up."
Caitlin had to give a smile as she looked at Dani putting food in her mouth with her two cousins. "Halloween," Caitlin said, almost having to laugh; Marley and Ruby's birthdays was on Christmas and Dani on Halloween. There was something about holidays and birthdays on this Earth.
"So we know the girls and Topar will want to do trick or treat. Well, if Topar is not filming," Kara said, almost not believing she had to worry about her son's filming schedule now and tutors for him. "But I was looking... Halloween is a Monday this year and the weekend after is STAR Con Sci-Fi con, but the day before there is no filming anywhere as far as I can tell. Barry will be done. Kayla and Topar have the day off. Not sure about Zari."
"Jurassic World," Caitlin said pointing at a calendar. "Her schedule should be up there." Kara got up at that.
"Yes, she has the day off," Kara said, looking at the calendar. "Seems the world is aligning for us. How about we plan a small party? We can do it at my house. Rae can cook. We can ask Clark, Lois, Uncle Jor, Aunt Lara, and the kids over. Lena and Lex and Lana will want to come. Maybe we can even find Mik and Imra...?" Her brother-in-law and his wife had gone away for a while and were due back soon, she just didn't know when.
"I like," Caitlin said. "Where is Rae anyway?"
"She took Zari to set this morning and is hanging around there," Kara said. "She's also been plotting something lately. I think she will tell us when she's ready to show us. Next Level Chef, which she filmed, starts airing soon and I think whatever she's planning she wants to do around the show airing."
"She got second place there, right?" Caitlin asked, and Kara nodded.
"Mismanaged time a bit in the finale so didn't get the win. According to her anyway," Kara said with a shrug as she heard a noise from the three children. "Well, it seems these three are done eating..." Kara went to take the plates and distract the kids with wooden blocks. It worked as all three started building blocks and then knocking them down and laughing.
Caitlin watching them for a moment. Her eyes on her daughter. "Cait, are you going to eat?" Kara finally asked.
"Maybe later," Caitlin mumbled, not really going for the food. Kara gave a nod. "Kara..." Caitlin said, stopping Kara from grabbing the plate.
"Yeah?" Kara asked, pausing.
"When Mon died, Kayla was there for you, correct?" Caitlin asked.
"Of course," Kara said. "After filming every day she came. Helped with Topar. Took up being Supergirl for me. I don't know how I would have survived without her."
"Then, if the worst happens to me, you need to return the favor," Caitlin said and Kara paused. "Cause if I die Kayla, will be a wreck and she will have five girls who will be depending on her."
"Five?" Kara paused.
"Daphne is included," Caitlin said with a small smile, knowing her younger sister was older now but if she died, Daphne would be just as bad - if not worst - than Kayla. Caitlin had always been the biggest mother figure in Daphne's life. "They will need Kayla to be strong because they will depend on her and Kayla needs you to depend on. You would be her strength. She'll need you to help get her life back in order. Promise me you will be there for her? Promise me you won't let her give up acting too."
"Caitlin," Kara said, a little sternly now. "I don't need to promise it, because I am always there for her. We've been through everything together. The destruction of our planet; the Phantom Zone; arriving here and seeing the failure in not protecting Kal-El; adjusting to Earth... I am always there for her, always in her head. So if you die, I will be here. I will let her cry into me - and I'll make sure she gets her ass back into acting and on with the life. For herself and for the girls."
"Thank you," Caitlin said, taking a deep breath in and out.
The two sat there for a moment. It had clearly gotten somber quickly.
"So, the party... think we should invite the other Paragons?" Kara finally said, to change the topic and lighten the mood. "I mean they are basically family to Kayla now."
"You know they have a group text message going?" Caitlin responded, and Kara laughed. "I sometimes find Kayla just randomly texting them. They had this whole big thing about Cora and who kept adding her to Earths she wasn't previously on before Crisis."
"Did they come up with an answer?" Kara asked, having known some of this but wanted to keep the mood light and this seemed to work.
"Apparently none of them had a Cora before Crisis so they are all confused," Caitlin said. "They think there may be a higher power than them or the Seven Forces who wanted to add Cora to their worlds. Interesting concept," Caitlin mused, and Kara gave a laugh as she took the food Caitlin had rejected and went to start cleaning up.
-Beautiful-
After she and Topar were done filming for the day, Kayla had gone to pick up Ruby and Marley from their schools, telling Kara through the bond she could handle the school pick-ups. She arrived back at the house at the same time Rae stopped with Zari.
"How was Jurassic World?" Kayla asked as Rae gave Krypto a pet.
"Miss you being there," Zari said back. "And Barry. He was fun last season, getting obsessed with being eaten by a dinosaur."
"Glad I managed to get that written into the script," Kayla mused. "The large T-Rex eating Barry was a priceless memory," Kayla added, remembering some of the robotic dinosaurs that were big enough that they had a compartment in the stomach so the actors were really 'eaten'. According to Barry it had been very comfortable inside, since he had insisted on doing that stunt himself and not get a stunt double to do it.
Rae had already opened the door and walked in with Marley, Ruby, and Topar following. Krypto stayed back to walk in with Kayla and Zari, who were last inside.
"Dinner is ready… I think," Kara greeted them. "Rae grabbed the pot I was about to take out and is inspecting it."
"Our little chef," Kayla said and then heard a little cough; turning, she saw Caitlin had come out of a room and Ruby and Marley were shocked at seeing her. Kayla was too a bit.
She hadn't expected her wife to be bald.
"What happened to your hair?" Ruby said, clearly distress over the fact her mother's hair being gone.
"It was falling out so I had to shave it," Caitlin said simply, and signed for Marley.
"Why was it falling out?" Marley asked and signed.
"Because the treatment I am getting to make me better causes that to happen," Caitlin answered her twins.
"Girls, doesn't your mother look beautiful," Kayla said, deciding to end this questioning. Something about the tone of her voice must have made the two decide to stop talking. Or at least Ruby to stop and Marley followed her sisters example. "Give her a hug and go get cleaned up for dinner." Marley and Ruby hugged Caitlin and then ran up the stairs as fast as they could. "They're just kids..." Kayla sighed, seeing on Caitlin's face it hurt her how the two reacted. They were used to their mom looking one way that such a change like this was difficult.
"You really think I look beautiful like this?" Caitlin asked.
"I always think you look beautiful," Kayla said going over and kissing Caitlin.
"Well Kara and me are going to take the kids out tomorrow and go wig shopping," Caitlin said. "Any requests?"
"Not blonde, I'm the blonde in this relationship," Kayla smirked, and Caitlin gave a laugh at that. Thank you, Kara. Kayla thought to her sister, quickly seeing Kara's memories of the day at the same time.
Of course, Kara thought back. Topar was already randomly chatting to this mother about the day of filming and Kara was smiling and nodding at the boy.
…
Later that night after Kara, Topar, and Rae left, Kayla had went up the stairs to the kids.
"You two finish your homework?" Kayla asked the two girls who were sitting on Ruby's bed.
"Yes," they both answered.
"Good, you can watch some TV or play on the Switch before heading to bed," Kayla said; Marley had been very into her Switch that Kayla had got her a few weeks ago.
"Mama Kayla," Ruby spoke up, and Kayla noticed the look between her and Marley. It seems Ruby had been nominated by the two to talk to her. "Is mommy going to die?"
She should have been expecting this question, but even hearing it made Kayla's heart break. Everything in Kayla wanted to just say no, but Kayla knew there was a possibility and she couldn't give false hope to the girls. She paused a moment, taking a chair and sitting down as she started to talk and sign at the same time.
"Your mom is very sick and there's no guarantees, but she's fighting. We just have to be strong and wait," Kayla said.
"Kimmie's mommy looked like mom now before she died," Ruby said, and Kayla had no idea who Kimmie was but she guessed it was some friend or classmate who mother had died of cancer.
"She was probably getting the same treatment," Kayla said. "It's different for everyone how the treatment works. But that is what happens - but the hair falling out doesn't mean death."
"What happens to us if mommy dies?" Ruby asked tears in her eyes.
Kayla moved over to the bed and put and arm around Ruby, bringing her close. Marley came in and Kayla hugged her as well. She let the hug last for a while before parting and began talking and signing again.
"Nothing happens to you. You stay with me," Kayla said and signed.
"Really?" Ruby asked.
"I adopted you," Kayla said, pointing at Ruby at the point, "and you," Kayla touching her finger to Marley's nose. "You are my daughters, legally. No one takes you from me."
"What about Zari?" Marley asked quickly before Ruby could.
"I adopted Zari as well," Kayla said. "She stays too."
"And Dani? Did you adopt her?" Ruby asked.
"I don't need to," Kayla said. "Dani is mine by birth. You are all safe."
"What about Aunt Daphne?" Marley asked.
"Well, she's a little too old to be adopted," Kayla couldn't help but smile at her choice of wording here, "but I'm not sure we couldn't get rid of her even if we tried," this made the twins laugh. Krypto, who had been waiting by the door gave a bark. "Now, I want you two to goof-off and play until bedtime, some mindless fun. No exceptions." The two gave a smile as Kayla got up and, with Krypto, walked to Dani's nursery room. The little girl was already asleep in her crib.
After, Kayla stopped by Zari's room; Zari was sitting at her desk on the computer.
"Are you alright?" Kayla asked.
"Just finishing up an online test," Zari said, "and then I'm going to study my lines for tomorrow."
"Let me know if you need a hand," Kayla said and Zari gave a nod as Kayla headed down the stairs.
Daphne was sitting on the couch, going through her digital camera and looking at the photos she took that day for her job. The two shared a look and a nod as Kayla went to the pool house in the back.
Kayla opened the door and let Krypto in first. "Caity?" Kayla said seeing Caitlin siting at her desk. Kayla pulling a chair out and sat down as Krypto sat on the floor besides her. Caitlin turning to look at Kayla. "I figured out why Ruby and Marley acted so weird about your hair..."
"Oh?" Caitlin asked.
"Apparently some girl named Kimmie's mom looked like you before she died," Kayla said. "I mean, bald."
"Oh, of course,' Caitlin said sighing. "I didn't know they remembered that. Kimmie was a girl in a day camp they went to in the summer before we even met you. Her mom died of cancer and then she stopped showing up to camp. Maybe I should go talk to them."
"I had a long talk with them. I think they are good," Kayla said and Caitlin gave a nod. "What are you working on? The Sci-Fi con is basically set."
"It is, but some last minute guests, plus Musical Con and Superhero Con need more people and for our general con we are always organizing every year," Caitlin said.
"Caitlin, there is something I wanted to talk to you about," Kayla said and Caitlin put the pen she as holding down. "I don't think it's a good idea for you to come to the Sci-Fi con."
"Kayla, I can do my job," Caitlin protested.
"I never said you couldn't but your immune system is weakened and there will be a lot of people there - a lot of germs. I don't think risking your health is a good idea. You can do some of your job virtual from here. Me, Barry, and Harry can pick up the slack in person at the con," Kayla said.
Caitlin wanted to argue, but she knew her wife was talking sense. "Okay," Caitlin said with a nod. "But we're doing a party for Dani and the boys."
"Wouldn't dream of stopping that," Kayla said. "Although you really don't have to invite the Paragons..." Caitlin wasn't sure why she was surprised Kayla knew about her and Kara's conversation. The two did share everything. "Anyway, I'm going to go record some lines for Hermione before bed. Don't work to hard or to late." Kayla leaned over and kissed Caitlin before she and Krypto walked out.
Post Chapter Note: And there you have it. A slightly shorter chapter but it was sweet and is dealing with Caitlin's cancer head-on. Let me know what you think!
