Chapter 3: Adapted Strength Training
One mild third Saturday of September 2023, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri as well as some of my other best friends Alex Russo, Justin Evans, Max Greenwald, Carly Shay, and Spencer Puckett, as well as Carly's stepdad, Freddie Benson, at LA Fitness in Monroeville for some adapted strength training exercises. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. My stepmother, Arlie, was the instructor. We listened to Kate Bush and Lizzo prior to the workout. "Did you guys know that Dad was going to take me to a baseball game eventually?" I asked my friends. "I did not know that," James stated. "James and I would like to come with you," Sarah stated. "It would be just like the time we went to a baseball game at James's high school." "That was a lot of fun," I agreed. "By the way, how is your ankle doing, Angel?" Sarah asked me. "It is getting much better, Sarah," I replied. "Thank you for asking!" "That's good," Sarah stated. "I can't wait to see what the doctor says on Tuesday," I stated. "I just didn't want summer to end at all because it was so amazing!" "Aw, I love these cooler temperatures," Sarah contradicted. "Besides, it can get unseasonably hot outside of summer." "I remember when we sold lemonade to customers to keep cool and then ordered Chinese food for dinner," Henri stated, licking his lips. "You know, I kind of miss summer, too," James stated. "But, it will be back next year." "Remember how the last weekend of our planned summer activities I was ready to move on to fall?" I asked my friends. "Just 2 weeks later, a disaster happens because I did not want summer to end!" "I broke my arm," Carly glumly stated. "And, I broke my ankle," Alex glumly added. Then, we listened to NSYNC and 98 Degrees while playing some games and doing some crafts after the exercise facility closed. We even ate dinner. "I decided to do something different today to take care of my broken arm," Carly stated. "My arm was swelling up from an art project I did back in middle school, but it was not nearly as bad as my broken arm." "Hope you guys are doing all of the right things," Mr. Benson happily stated. "I broke my arm once as a teenager, but it was able to heal quickly with good care," Spencer stated. "I see the doctor this week, too," Carly stated. "I also see the doctor this week," Alex stated. "I thought that it was fun celebrating our friendship anniversary all last month. I miss August already." "I thought that our Christmas band concert was a lot of fun," Max stated. "Yes, definitely," Justin agreed. "I miss being a part of the band program." "Crafts are another form of art that I like to do besides music," Alex stated. "Earlier this morning, we were tied at the chain with our twin broken ankles on opposite sides," I told Alex. "It is almost like combining colors together, which is something fun that we can do together." We did not want the dinner, as we ate Alex's healthy version of chicken parmesan. Then, it was time for all of us to go home. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
