Bardock was coming home after his planet invasion. He could just fly to his house, but decided it was best to walk around, enjoy the peace. After weeks of fighting, he had earned it. He loved fighting. But even the occasional feeling of the warmth of being in your home made him wish for the trip back. In other words, he wanted to see his family. He sometimes wondered if he was a crazy saiyan.

He walked around the neighborhoods, his thoughts racing through his mind. The cerelians, the mother and the baby, that monster... it had brought out a power within him he didn't even know he had. Like an explosion of adrenaline in his veins and energy refreshing him but most of all, determination. Bardock had always been a low class warrior but that power... though no scouter had read his power it probably had surpassed the 15,000s. Maybe that's why Raditz has so much power. What he also didn't know was why he acted in such a way. Saving that child and her mother... it wasn't normal behavior for a saiyan. He risked his life for them. But just seeing those two just reminded him of Raditz and Gine. Of Kakarot and Gine. Maybe he was being soft because of the damn family. That's why most saiyans weren't married and if they had children, it was mostly to make sure the saiyan race and his name kept going. But Bardock had chosen to spend the rest of his life with Gine and in turn, it had made him soft. So soft he couldn't stand to see the suffering of a mother and child. He thought about all of this. What would the king, or worse, Frieza or King Cold do if they found out? Bardock had no idea and no intention to find out.

He knocked on the front door of his home, near the meat distribution center. That's where she worked. Bardock had no idea if she was home or at the meat distribution center. He didn't quite understand her schedules.

"Gine? It's me" The door swung almost immediately, with a very flustered saiyan woman behind it.

"Hey Bardock, back from your mission already?" Asked Gine.

"Yes" Responded Bardock, immediately attracted to the smell of freshly cut meat. Gine always took leftovers from the meat distribution center. Bardock was rejuvenated by it after weeks of living like a savage animal. One of the bad things about a mission is that the food you ate had to be from the planet. You couldn't bring any from planet Vegeta in order to 'not waste any more resources' king Vegeta always says. Bardock already knew the king was kind of an idiot, but he never dared to speak such words out loud.

"Are you hungry? You must be hungry you always are hungry. Come here I'll give you some fresh meat" Said Gine very quickly.

"Okay okay" Said Bardock liking the attention. He sat down to eat. He had a question to make to Gine though she knew she wouldn't like it. She was always very protective. Bardock cut straight to the chase, which was always something that saiyans did.

"Gine, have you seen the news?" He said while grabbing the meat with his hands.

"Seriously Bardock what are the knife and fork for, decoration? No, I haven't seen the news. Why, what's happened?" Asked Gine with curiosity.

Bardock ignored Gine's instructions and gave a bite out of the meat without the need of cutlery.

"Well you see" Bardock said with the steak filling his mouth and speaking in a muffled way "King Vegeta has started a tournament in honor of his son. The winner will get to accompany prince Vegeta to his first mission to another planet. You do know how strong the prince is right?" Said Bardock as he engulfed the whole piece of meat for it to disappear in his mouth.

"I've heard rumors" Said Gine "Rumors that his power exceeded the thousands in power level. But that should be imposible. No saiyan his age should be able to be that strong.

"Exactly" Said Bardock "And that's why I think our son would really benefit from the experience of you know, fighting in the tournament and fighting alongside Vegeta, if he wins of course. That would make him incredibly strong" Said Bardock while closing his eyes to receive the scolding he was going to get. Gine looked incredibly furious, but suddenly, she calmed down.

"Sure, I guess he could come out stronger from that" Said Gine. Bardock gulped.

"Wait. Seriously!?" He said incredule.

"I know I can't stop you, and I've seen Raditz play with Vegeta so I know he'll want to do it so I can't win. Besides, it's not like I'm completely agains fighting it's just that I worry. Anyway, yes you have my permission to tell Raditz about the tournament" Finished Gine. Immediately Bardock sat up, clasped his hands in a pleading gesture and bowed down.

"Thanks to! I promise you won't regret it" Bardock thanked.

"Yeah yeah, now go tell Raditz hurry" Said Gine, but before Bardock left she remembered something.

"Oh Bardock! I need to tell you something" Said Gine quickly before Bardock left. Bardock turned around suspiciously to face Gine.

"What?" Bardock asked, thinking that Gine was having second thoughts.

"It's about Tora. He came back two hours ago"

"Did he?" Bardock said in a genuine question. He didn't remember seeing Tora leave so soon.

"Yes. And he's just sat there looking at his porch. I think something's wrong. You should go check on him" Said Gine with her emblematic sympathy for others. Bardock wanted to complain but he figured he shouldn't make Gine mad. She thanked her again and left to find Tora. As usual, Gine was right. Tora was just sitting there looking at his house, staring at it. But at the same time, not really staring at it.

"Heya" Bardock said. Tora turned around and looked as if Bardock had interrupted a very profound thought.

"Hey" Said Tora. Immediately Bardock noticed his tone

"Why so dark and gloomy" He asked.

"Hmph. Why do you care. You only came to check on me because someone told you right? Probably Gine" He guessed. Though Tora was being very moody, Bardock couldn't help but smile. He always seemed to read his mind.

"Come ooon, tell me" He sat down next to him. Tora faced the other direction but he did look as if he was about to cave in.

"Cooome oooooooooo-"

"If I tell you will you leave me alone" Said Tora. Bardock smiled.

"Definitely" Bardock reassured. Tora stood up. Bardock couldn't help but think his ability to annoy Tora felt like a superpower.

"Let's go somewhere that's more quiet" Tora basically demanded. Somewhere more quiet for saiyans meant somewhere they could fight. Bardock smiled once again letting the scar on his face stretch.

"What are we waiting for?" Asked Bardock with a huge grin on his face. With that they flew away. The terrain was comfortable. Flat with not many rocks around. A desert designed to fight the saiyans always liked saying.

"Well are you going to tell me now?" Asked Bardock as they landed. Tora's face looked really angry now instead of depressed.

"Well Bardock for instance, I'm mad at you!" Said Tora really angry. Bardock was confused, since he didn't know what he did to deserve Tora's rage.

"What do you mean?" Asked Bardock, no longer grinning.

Tora looked more furious now "The aliens on the last planet we visited on the last mission we just had. Who defeated them?" Said Tora as an accusation. Though Bardock didn't understand how that question was accusing him

"Us. The Bardock elite force" Answered Bardock.

"You really don't remember do you?" Responded Tora.

"What should I remember?" Asked Bardock, not quite knowing what Tora was referring to.

"The Bardock elite force didn't defeat them, YOU DID!" Accused Tora "Everybody on our squad was on the ground, defeated. Helpless. There were like hundreds of them with high power level. And then YOU started to kill everyone and everything. You were like a monster. You decimated everyone down to the last one. When I tried to read your power level, my scouter broke. My scouter can read up to 13,000 so you better start talking" Finished Tora. Bardock's face darkened

"I don't know what you're talking about" He said while looking at the ground.

"Fine, have it your way. I'm just mad because you didn't tell me you had such power. The only way to know is by fighting you" Tora took on a fighting stance "You better come at me to kill" He finished. Bardock realized he had no other choice. Besides, he had been itching to fight Tora 1 on 1. Now was the perfect opportunity.

"I'll take off my scouter. One thing I learned is that It's not always right" Said Tora. He threw his scouter far away but still visible. Bardock did the same thing. They took on their fighting stance. Bardock just crouched down a bit and balled up his hands into fists. Tora stood sideways, with his hands balled up into fists like Bardock. They stood there for a few seconds, seizing each other up. Then Tora charged.

Tora was fast but Bardock was faster. He received the charge by putting his hands on Tora's shoulders and kicking him in the gut. He sent him flying to the sky. Bardock charged up a ki blast to attack but this time Tora was faster. He recovered mid-air and threw a strong ki blast with insane speed. Bardock's ki blast went from attacking Tora to defending against Tora. Both blasts met and exploded in a brilliant white light as the dust rose as a result of their impact. Bardock was unable to see through the dust, and before he realized, Tora had sneaked up behind his back. With a beam of ki, he sent him flying through rocks. Bardock plummeted into rocks, destroying them and continuing his path like a crazy missile. As soon as he recovered, Tora kicked him in the small of his back and sent Bardock flying. Tora charged in the air, but for the first time in the fight, Bardock recovered in time and met his charge. They exchanged deafening blows, each one being blocked by their opposing rival, but Tora was still faster, more energetic and definitely more motivated. Tora connected a blow to his face and feinted to hit another blow to the face. Bardock blocked his face and fell for the fake. Tora hit Bardock straight in the gut with all his might. Bardock didn't receive the blow well and took too long being stunned by the pain from the blow. Tora punched his face and Bardock hit the ground with a huge THUMP! That resonated all throughout the desert. Tora came down in a flash.

"What's this? This isn't the strength you showed in that planet Bardock. I told you to fight me with all your strength!" Raged Tora. He charged again. Another violent exchange of fists happened. Tora was landing more and more blows. Bardock was losing. He was tired. He had always thought that he was stronger than Torá but this power he had, was incredible. And Bardock was determined to keep getting stronger, just like Tora. Suddenly, he had an explosion of adrenaline and energy inside his body. He felt like he could kill 100 of those aliens in a heartbeat. Tora hit Bardock once more in the face. Bardock looked almost defeated but inside he was having a burst of energy. He let his arms fall to his knees and when Tora tried to connect another blow to the face Bardock stopped it with his hand with blinding speed. He had Tora's hand in lock. Tora couldn't get it out. And Tora made the first mistake in the whole fight. Instead of trying to get away, he tried to punch Bardock. Bardock swiftly locked his other hand too. He started to press hard against Tora's hands, crushing them in a wave of energy until some bones cracked. Tora in pain recoiled his hands and this time Bardock let go, only to hit a fatal kick to Tora's chest that sent him flying into a big rock. Tora was dazed, trying to recover but Bardock wasn't done. He came at him with blinding speed. Tora immediately responded by using both hands to attack but Bardock ducked underneath and hit Tora in his gut so hard that any non-warrior saiyan would have ended up with his organs reassembled. Bardock flew up leaving Torá clutching his stomach. Too late did he realize what Bardock was doing. Bardock summoned all his ki, all his energy into a single blast, something he didn't know he could do. He unleashed the energy beam as powerful as the sun. Tora was blasted and engulfed in a brilliant white light as he received a blast full of pure energy, creating a deafening explosion that could be heard all around the planet. The energy spread out like a powerful sun, gracing everyone within a 10,000 mile radius with a blinding light. The battle was over.

Bardock looked around for Tora. When the dust cleared, Bardock saw Tora stretched out in the ground, unable to move. He seemed in pain but Bardock didn't worry about that. Saiyans could resist even the most unimaginable pain.

"You okay" Asked Bardock. Looked at him as if to say, what do you think? Bardock looked at his hands as if he didn't quite know where all that power had come from

"Do it's true. I just wanted to confirm it but it is true. You're so powerful... but you didn't even seem to know" Tora dryly chuckled "You don't need me. You don't even need a team. You're powerful enough to invade whole planets by yourself" Said Tora. Bardock lowered down to the ground to meet Tora's gaze. He offered his hand.

"I don't care how powerful I am. You're still my comrade and my friend, I still need you" Said Bardock. Tender things like this weren't normally said by saiyans but Bardock was telling the truth. Tora noticed that. He accepted his hand.

"But given that I beat you in battle, I think it's fair that I can ask you for a favor" Tora looked at him curiously "Would you help me train my son?"
