"I am sure I shall make a fool of myself."
"But why would you think so?" Elizabeth asked Georgiana. "You are so accomplished and everything charming and polite, not to mention that the very event is held in your honour. All are here for you alone."
"And that is what distresses me so," her sister-in-law admitted. "I do not like to be centre of attention. Oh, Lizzie, I am so afraid."
"Georgiana, please, do not upset yourself. Come now, be calm, and remember, we are Darcy women. We have no need for fear or worry. Dearest, please believe me. You are as dear to me now as any of my natural sisters and I would never allow anything untoward to befall you. I know your brother will make you the very same vow."
"Indeed I shall," said Mr Darcy himself, appearing behind them. "Now, may I have the honour of escorting the two loveliest women in the country?" He offered each of them, and both eagerly accepted.
Darcy looked to his wife then, wearing a smile that told her all she needed to know of his true love and eternal gratitude, before they stepped into the ballroom to polite applause.
