Elizabeth read the letter over again and sighed. Dear Georgiana was indeed the most charming girl and the dearest friend. That she should have heard the sordid tale of Lydia and Wickham and still believed Elizabeth worthy of her attention was quite remarkable, but who better to be understanding than she?
To think that she should beg forgiveness for Mr Darcy, who had done so much to assist the Bennet family as a whole. Perhaps this was a part of the story that had been kept from her? Elizabeth was sure she would never be tempted to ask. As if she might ever have the opportunity.
Oh, what Elizabeth would give for a chance to see Mr Darcy again, to thank him, to apologise, to tell him all she truly felt, but it was not to be. It seemed quite impossible, completely untenable, until all at once she heard her sister calling. It seemed Mr Bingley was approaching, and with him, of all people, Mr Darcy!
Glancing back to the letter in her hand, Elizabeth smiled. Perhaps Georgiana had more sway with her brother than one might expect. Perhaps she owed her great thanks. Perhaps there was hope after all.
