It has been a week since the incident and the last time Law has seen Kasey. The young girl was still on the submarine, Law just didn't know where. You would think a crew of twenty-one people including himself would be able to find one girl in a submarine, but no. It was like the saying goes, "you can't find someone who doesn't want to be found". It was as if the girl's entire presence disappeared from the ship all together with the only thing telling them otherwise was some of their food rations in the pantry, slowly decreasing day by day. She was eating something at least. It wasn't as much as Law would like but at least she wasn't completely starving herself.
Recently they sailed into the Grand Line and Law's plans were getting closer into being set in motion. At the moment the Captain was sitting at the desk in his room. Law sighed to himself as he flipped through one of his many medical books. Even though he has read the book over a thousand times as he had the book in his possession over a couple of years, it brought him a sense of comfort in a way. He was using reading as an attempt to distract his thoughts filled with worry and concern regarding the girl but his attempts proved to be futile.
He didn't think finding out the girl was a Devil Fruit User was such a big deal but as he looked deeper into it he also found out the girl was known as "The Tanuki", the unknown person with a bounty over a $1,150,000,000. There were rumors they were working with the Revolutionary Army, not that anyone could prove such a thing. He never would have thought he would ever come into contact with the Tanuki in his lifetime nor did he think they would end up being this small girl. With this in mind he now knew the girl was capable of looking out for herself as not many people possessed such a high bounty.
Sitting up from his chair, he headed over to his doctor's room where he would perform regular checkups on his crewmates as he was the crew's doctor/surgeon. Speaking of checkups he was going to need to perform one on their newest passenger. The problem was getting her to agree with the checkup. Not like she had a choice in the matter anyways. Just because he had trouble tolerating her didn't mean he wanted her to get sick or even worse die. He would be a terrible doctor if he let that happen. Law had taken the doctor's oath for a reason and that reason was to save people's lives. Even if he didn't like the people he was treating half of the time. When he opened the door he saw the exact girl he was looking for. Kasey was kneeling on the floor looking through the folders containing the crew's medical information. This girl was just too curious for her own good. He just didn't know if that's a bad thing or a good thing at the moment.
"What are you doing here, Kasey-ya?" He asked, startling the girl. She was so deep in her thoughts that she didn't hear him enter the room.
Kasey quickly stood up, holding her little black book with one hand and pointed at him with the other. "I'm trying to figure out your plans."
He raised an eyebrow as he walked slowly towards her. He couldn't believe she was still focused on that, you would think she would get tired of it by now. "Tell me, do you hate pirates by any chance, Kasey-ya?" He calmly asked.
"Pirates are nothing but scum of the earth." She spat out through clenched teeth.
He couldn't blame her for her hatred of pirates. Growing up with a group of pirates he had witnessed how cruel they could truly be. "Not all pirates are bad. I'm sure you have met some good ones out there, Kasey-Ya." He was now standing at least two feet away from her.
"Out of hundreds, I have only known five good ones." She glared up at him as she backed away. He was too close for her comfort. Close enough that she could easily smell the scents of vanilla and chamomile off of him. But instead of the scent calming her, it only fueled her fight or flight instincts even more. She couldn't decide if she wanted to fight him or flee from him at this very moment.
"So do you hate me for being a pirate then, Kasey-Ya?" Standing in close proximity to the girl, he noticed that Kasey only reached about two inches above his elbows. He also noticed that even underneath her baggy hoodie she had lost some weight probably due to her avoidance of the crew for over a week.
The girl shook her head. "I don't know. What does this have to do with anything? We're already sailing in the Grand Line aren't we? So why should my feelings on the subject matter to you? Last time I checked pirates didn't care about anyone else's feelings but their own, so quit pretending that you do!" Her speech was rushed, only shouting the last bit.
Law closed whatever was left of the gap between them as leaned forward and slammed both his hands on the wall, each one on either side of her head. "I'm not like the other pirates you've met!" He shouted back at her. "When will you realize that I'm not anything like them? When will you realize you need to quit whatever it is you're trying to accomplish here while you're ahead?!"
"Once I start something I intend to finish it no matter what it takes." Kasey growled as she coated her right hand in Armament Haki and punched Law right in the gut, causing him to take his hands off the wall to hold his stomach. Law, thankfully was able to coat his stomach in Haki just in time but it didn't completely stop the pain that soon followed after. "If the reason you're here is to tell me to quit then we're done here."
Kasey walked away and made it to the door. But Law apparently had other plans for the girl. "Room, shambles." Using his devil fruit abilities, Law switched Kasey's position so she was now standing back in front of him. He wasn't about to let her get away from him that easily. Knowing his luck it would probably take another week before any of them could find her again.
"You know your Devil Fruit is really starting to piss me off." Kasey lounged right at him, aiming a clawed hand for his face but was blocked by Law's sword Kikoku to which she backflipped off of. "Multiple." With that five girls all looking exactly like Kasey appeared out of thin air.
The fight continued on for the next half hour. Kasey would attack straight on only for Law to dodge or block her attacks using his sword. Normally she was a better fighter than this but she wasn't in the right state of mind, right now she was only reacting on pure instinct. To her it seemed like the only option was for her fight as if her life depended on it. If only she had one of her weapons on her, instead she ended up leaving them in her bag, which she soon began to realize how stupid it was for her to do that.
Law was growing bored of the constant dodging and blocking attack after attack. Even with the clones, it didn't change the outcome. This fight was getting pointless as the only thing that would come out of it was the increase of injuries Kasey was receiving. The girl could barely stand on her own two feet as she was swaying side to side. Her body was littered in bruises and cuts due to constantly crashing into things. Because of this, his once clean and neat room ended up looking like a giant storm passed through it.
"Room: shambles." Kikoku clanged as it landed on the ground and he had a thrashing Kasey in his hand. Not wasting any second, he quickly pinned Kasey to the ground. He held the girl's wrists together right above her head as he rested his kneeled legs on each side of her thighs.
"Let me go!" The pinkette screamed as thrashed around in his grip. She continued to do so, even when her attempts were proving to be useless.
"Kasey-Ya you need to calm down right now." He ordered in a stern voice. The same voice he only ever used when it regarded the well-being of one of his crewmates. "You're only going to get yourself hurt."
"Fuck you. You don't know what I need." She screamed back, not stopping her struggling. "Get your hands off of me!"
The way Kasey screamed the last bit, Law could tell her breathing was picking up speed as if she was having trouble breathing, and it wasn't due to her panting either. The girl was experiencing a panic attack and a major one at that. Shit, no wonder the girl was acting the way she was, fighting as if she was a trapped animal. It was because she was in complete panic mode, meaning right now she viewed him as the threat.
"Kasey-Ya you have to listen to me. You have to focus on your breathing." He ordered a little louder. But the girl ignored his orders, only shouting "You're not the boss of me!" and "I won't let you steal my heart!" as she used whatever strength she had left and began to slam both his and her hands onto the ground repeatedly. It left Law no choice but to get a little more forceful if he wanted her to listen to him.
"Kasey-Ya stop it!" He shouted in her face as he slammed both their wrists down. The girl stopped her thrashing and looked at him with wide, glossed over eyes and trembling lips. Kasey shook under his grip as she let out a small whimper as she hyperventilated. Law moved his head back so he wasn't right in the girl's face. "Are you willing to listen to me now?" He asked in a softer tone, only getting a nod in response.
"You're having a panic attack. I need you to focus on your breathing or else you're going to make yourself pass out, okay" He made sure to speak in a soft and gentle tone in order to make sure the girl doesn't panic even more. "Watch me, breathe in." He breathed in. "And out" and let it out. "Can you do that for me Kasey-Ya?"
"In." She breathed in. "Out" Then she let it out. "Good job. Just keep doing it exactly like that Kasey-Ya. You're doing great." They did that together for a couple times until they got her breathing under control. As they did this, he gently grabbed one of her hands and placed it over her heart. He could feel Kasey's heartbeat beat rapidly through her chest. "See, I didn't take your heart. It's still there right where it's supposed to be. No one is going to hurt you Kasey-Ya, you're safe now."
The two of them just laid there for a while, staring right into each other's eyes. Neither one saying anything as the two of them just laid there in total silence.
Law was the one to break the silence first. "I'm going to let you go now. But only if you promise me you're not going to jump up and start attacking me again. Are we clear?" Getting a quick nod in response, he slowly got off of the girl.
Kasey sat up, wincing once her hands touched the floor as they were covered in multiple bruises, knuckles were split open as they bled. She cradled them to her chest, trying her best to ignore the stinging sensation as her hands pressed onto the freshly made wounds.
" 'M sorry." She sniffled, looking down at the floor. She really didn't mean for things to turn out like they did. She just panicked and completely lost control, letting her emotions overwhelm her. She hasn't had a panic attack that bad in a long time. The last one being only four years ago when she thought she saw her mother during one of her missions only for it to be a random person who just happened to look identical to her mother. "I d-didn't mean to, I swear." She could feel her breathing begin to speed up.
Kasey jumped when a hand touched the top of her head, but immediately relaxed as fingers gently combed through her hair. She looked up into Law's golden eyes as he knelt down in front of her. "It's okay Kasey-Ya. I know you didn't mean to. In fact I'm sorry too."
She tilted her head to the side, blinking the rest of her tears away. "Why are you sorry? I was the one who went ballistic and attacked you."
Law only shook his head. "You had a panic attack, these things happen. I should've noticed you were panicking sooner and not have let the situation end the way that it did. Therefore I hold partial responsibility as I was the one who made you panic like that."
"It's not your fault." She sniffled as she rubbed her eyes. "Did you mean it?"
"Mean what?" Law asked through pursed lips.
"What you said earlier when you said that I was safe and that you weren't going to hurt me. Did you mean it? Cause if you're just lying to me than-"
Kasey was cut off by Law. "Of course I meant every word I said. I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it. As long as you're on this submarine I swear you will not be hurt in any way nor do you have to fear being turned to the Marines. You are completely safe here Kasey-Ya."
"Emari."
"What?"
She didn't know why but she could tell he was being sincere and would keep his word. What else did she have to lose? Kasey took a deep breath in and let it out before she continued speaking. "My real name is Kasai D. Emari. I just prefer to go by Kasey for the time being."
"It's okay Kasey-Ya. I respect your wishes. You don't owe me an explanation."
Kasey nodded her head with a small smile. "Thank you Law."
Law gave a closed smile back, he would just have to give her that checkup tomorrow. "You're welcome. Now let's get your hands looked at."
Things got even more interesting due to the girl's arrival. Law thought to himself as he sat on a chair as he watched her sleeping form on his bed. It was the girl's request to sleep on his bed and if anyone asked he would say he gave up on trying to get the girl out of his room. While the truth he was starting not to mind the girl's company. For some reason he wanted to help the girl fight whatever demons she was facing but deep down he knew he would have to say goodbye as they were approaching a Island soon to stock up on supplies. He would've asked her to join his crew but Kasey said so herself that she hated pirates but that doesn't mean they couldn't enjoy each other's company a little while longer.
