Chapter 3

Izuku wakes up about an hour before Bakugo the next morning. Instead of waking his friend, he quietly slips out of bed and goes about his usual morning routine. About halfway through his run, Bakugo texts him. A quick reply of a sunrise emoji and a running man emoji is enough to satisfy his friend's curiosity as he sends a thumbs up emoji seconds later. He takes a shorter route back than he usually does, passing his apartment on the way. He contemplates for a moment going and talking to his mom before continuing back to Bakugo's house, but he's still too upset.

It doesn't take him long to get ready for school once he returns to his friend's house. After a quick shower and change of clothes, he joins Bakugo and his mother for breakfast, his father having already left for work. Mitsuki checks their homework as the boys eat. She asks if Izuku's called his mom since he arrived last night. When he says that he hasn't, she offers to call for him just to let her know that he's okay.

"Have a nice day, boys," she calls after them as they start down the path to school.

Her son only waves in response. Izuku turns around and waves, calling back, "Thank you, Auntie Mitsuki. Have a good day."

As usual, they meet up with a few other students from their class about halfway to school. They're all chatting about their results. Even Todoroki has something to say for once. Only Bakugo seems to notice how quiet Izuku is, but he doesn't point it out. When they're a block away from the gates, Izuku decides to text All Might. He asks if they can talk after class. The reply of "Meet me for lunch. We can talk then." doesn't come until a few minutes before class starts.

"Good morning, class," Aizawa greets. "The bell has rung. You should all be in your seats." As Denki and Ashido rush to their seats, their teacher writes the topic for today's heroics lecture on the board. "A few announcements before All Might comes in for the lecture. Mineta, stop planting cameras in the girl's locker room. Administration doesn't know it was you, but if it happens one more time, I'm telling them. Midnight has asked me to remind you all that the deadline for submitting applications for support items in the upcoming sports festival is this Wednesday. Unlike last year, she will not be taking any late applications. Apparently, she got in trouble for that. Finally, parent teacher conferences are Monday. Please remind your parents or guardians." He looks up from the paper he was reading announcements from. "Any questions?"

"No, Sensei."

Nodding, he waves in All Might. "Behave. I'm taking a nap."

As he disappears under the desk, All Might gestures to the board. "Shape-shifters and how to identify them," he loudly announces. "Please open your books to chapter five and we'll get started."

Despite how insightful the lesson was, Izuku couldn't bring himself to pay attention. He was nervous to talk to his mentor about his DNA results. What should he ask about first? All for One or Nana? Should he even mention that Tomura Shigaraki is apparently his cousin? So many questions swam through the teen's head. When he thinks he's figured out what to ask, more questions pop up out of nowhere. By the time the lecture's over, he has more questions and no notes.

As Present Mic trades places with All Might for their English lesson, Izuku feels a wad of paper hit the back of his head. Picking it up, he sees that it's notes from the previous lesson. Then his phone buzzes. "Pay attention, Deku! I'm not taking double notes for English!" and an explosion emoji pop up on his screen. He sends a quick "Thank you, Kacchan." before discreetly slipping his phone back in his pocket and taking out his English notebook.
