Episode 278: The Bicker the Better
Several days passed since meeting up with Professor Oak, so Sora, Kairi, Brendan, May, Max, Lisia, Pikachu, and Angel made a stop to a Pokémon Center to rest for the night. Sora and Kairi exchanged Camerupt, Hariyama, Lombre, Meditite, Corphish, Volbeat, Illumise, Kecleon, Delcatty, Masquerain, Milotic, and the Kirlia for Bagon, Aron, Spheal, Beldum, Anorith, Chingling, Lileep, Mawile Gulpin, Baltoy, and the Snorunt over to them. Sora and Kairi started to train them from the afternoon and right to the night.
"That will be enough for the night, everyone. You're all improving nicely," Kairi said. Kairi's Pokémon all beamed as they smiled. Chingling then started to evolve, much to their surprise. Sora and his Pokémon caught a glimpse of the evolution in progress. Chingling has now become a small, round Pokémon with a mainly bluish-white body shaped like a fūrin wind chime. She has beady, yellow eyes and three stubby limbs. Her body has a horizontal amaranth-colored pattern. Underneath her body extends a long, tag-like tail that has amaranth patterning at the bottom. A yellow, globular growth, referred to as a suction cup or a sucker, is connected to the top of her body.
"Chime!" The newly evolved Pokémon sang.
"Wow, so cool!" Sora said.
"Pika, Pika," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"But what is it?" Sora asked.
"Let's see what the Pokédex has to say about her," Kairi said, taking out her Rotom Phone and scanned her.
Chimecho, the Wind Chime Pokémon
The evolved form of Chingling
Type: Psychic
Chimecho makes its cries echo inside its hollow body. When this Pokémon becomes enraged, its cries result in ultrasonic waves that have the power to knock foes flying.
"Chime!" Chimecho sang.
"So you're name's Chimecho. You're really cute," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Chimecho, Chime," Chimecho said. Kairi ends up hugging her newly evolved Chimecho.
Sora smiled happily for his girlfriend. He loved seeing how close she and her Pokemon get with each other.
On the very next morning, Sora, Kairi, Brendan, Max, Lisia, Pikachu, and Angel stepped out and stretched their arms.
"Man, that breakfast sure hits the spot," Brendan said.
"It sure has!" Max agreed.
"Now that we've eaten and we've rested, we can get the show on the road!" Sora said.
"Yeah!" Kairi, Brendan, Lisia, and Max all said, agreeing with Sora.
"Pika!" Pikachu exclaimed.
"Eevee!" Angel said.
"What's the matter, Angel?" Kairi asked. Lisia gasped when she realized May was still inside.
"May's still inside!" Lisia exclaimed. Brendan groaned as he went inside.
"I'll go get her!" Brendan said, running back inside.
May was inside the room the group were staying in when she was packing up. She was humming as she placed everything in her fanny pack.
"There, all finished," May said. Brendan came in the room.
"May, what are you doing?" Brendan asked. May turned to see him. "You are so slow! We got up to make a clear start and you're slowing us down!" He started to push her to make her move.
"Hey," May said, stopping in front of a mirror. He fell on the ground. She adjusts her bandana. "Okay, good. I'm ready to go now." Brendan gets up and he growled in anger.
"Come on! What are you doing?" Brendan asked as he yelled.
"Hey, when there's a mirror around, you need to stop and look," May said.
"I don't!" Brendan argued.
"What? You never check your clothes or your hair?" May asked.
"No way!" Brendan said. May gasped in shock.
"Unbelievable," May said.
"Excuse me, I'm not a girl in case you forgot, May!" Brendan snapped at her.
"You're so yesterday. Men also has some fashion sense these days. I mean, at least what Sora is wearing is cool," May said. Brendan's face was getting redder as he grew even more angrier.
"FINE, I GET IT! CAN WE GET GOING NOW?!" Brendan yelled at the top of his lungs. May was getting angered by how Brendan just yelled in her face.
"Hey, you didn't have to raise your voice at me!" May argued.
"I wouldn't need to raise my voice if you would just move it like we were supposed to!" Brendan argued.
"Well, excuse me for looking in the mirror!" May snapped at Brendan. Sora and Pikachu came in the Pokémon Center.
"What's all the yelling?" Sora asked. He saw Brendan and May were bickering back and forth. Sora stepped in while they were arguing. "Break it up, you two!" Sora separated the both of them. "I don't know what this is about, but you two need to cool your heads." They glared right at Sora and then at each other.
"Sure. I'm sure my head isn't in such a rush to cool down like a certain someone's!" May hissed.
"Well, maybe it wouldn't need to be in a rush if your head wouldn't be slower than a Trapinch!" Brendan hissed right back. Lighting shot between the two of them. Sora almost flinched when he saw a Groudon and a Kyogre go at each other's throats.
"Hmph!" Brendan and May huffed and turned from each other, crossing their arms. Sora didn't know what was going on.
"Okay," Sora said.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
Brendan and May rejoined the group, but they were giving each other the silent treatment, but they still spoke to themselves.
"Incredible. Raising your voice to just because she's looking in the mirror?" May huffed.
"Talk about nerve. Standing around, gazing yourself like a vain Roselia while we're all waiting," Brendan said. May stopped and glared right at him.
"What did you just say?" May barked at Brendan.
"Did you hear me or do you need a q-tip to clean out those ears?!" Brendan barked back.
"Here we go again," Sora sighed.
"Stop me if I'm repeating myself, but is it only me or those two have been fighting all day?" Max asked.
"It's not just you, Max. They've been like this all day," Kairi said.
"To think, they both woke up, feeling like they're in a good mood," Lisia said.
"They're just having a lover's quarrel. I'm sure they'll get tired of arguing with each other soon enough," Kairi said.
"Well, I hope they kiss and make up soon, because if this keeps up, their argument could be so loud, even a Loudred's ears would bleed," Sora said.
"I hate you, Brendan Birch!" May yelled.
"I hate you, too!" Brendan yelled back.
"Excuse us, you two lovebirds!" Two voices said in unison. The voices belonged to a man and a woman. Brendan and May turned to see a young couple. The young man is dressed as a soldier and he had teal hair and indigo eyes and the young woman had blonde hair tied in curls and has blue-green eyes, she wore a pink dress with dark pink ribbons on the dress and on another ribbon on the back of her hair. With the young couple is a Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Volbeat, Illumise, Gardevoir, and a sixth Pokémon.
It is a white, bipedal, bishōnen-like Pokémon. Its lower body consists of rounded hips with strong legs. It has a thin green torso with sharp, red horns sticking out of its chest and back. Its arms resemble tonfas with extendable, blade-like elbows. Its head resembles a gladiator's helmet with a white face, red eyes, and a teal head crest. It has spikes on the sides of its face. This Pokémon is known as Gallade.
The man introduced first, "Oscar is the name."
"I'm Andie and love is the game," she finished with a rhyme.
"Hey, who's that Pokémon?" Sora asked, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Gallade, the Blade Pokémon
The evolved form of a male Kirlia
Type: Psychic/Fighting
Gallade fights by using its arms like they were both swords. Because of this, it has earned the reputation of being a master of courtesy and swordsmanship.
"Wow, so cool. So that's what my Kirlia will evolve into," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Seeing how much in love, you two appear to be-" Oscar paused.
"We thought we'd offer you two a challenge," Andie said.
"Us? In love?" Brendan and May asked in unison. Brendan and May turned away from each other, still angered.
"Oh, I love her like an Onix loves water!" Brendan said.
"I would rather kiss a Grimer!" May said.
"Hmm, hmm, hmm! That's what young lovebirds always say," Oscar said.
"And fighting's the first sign of love," Andie said.
"And it's pretty obvious that you two are in the middle of a fight, right?" Oscar asked.
"That means-" Andie started.
"You two are in love!" Oscar and Andie said in unison, taking each other by the hand.
"I don't think so!" Brendan and May said in unison.
"Told you! You answered together!" Oscar and Andie said doing a different pose. Brendan and May blushed. They huffed and turned away from each other.
"Oh, boy. It looks like they can see through them like a clear water bottle," Sora said.
"You've said it," Kairi agreed.
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"Vee," Angel said.
"Shall we?" Oscar asked.
"Yes, it's a good time," Andie said.
"Now! We challenge you to a battle!" Andie and Oscar said in unison.
"You mean, a Pokémon battle?" Brendan asked.
"Yes, but not just any old Pokémon battle," Oscar said.
"A battle that tests the true love of any couple! It's a..." Andie paused so she could finish it with Oscar.
"Pokémon tag battle!" Oscar and Andie said in unison.
"A Pokémon tag battle, huh? Sounds like a lot of fun! And it could be just the practice I need for my next Gym battle. May, you wanna give it a try?" Brendan asked.
"I guess so. I don't know any of that 'test your love' stuff, but why not? I got a Conest coming up, too," May said.
"We will now explain to you the tag battle rules!" Oscar said.
"They are very simple. Each Trainer will be using one or two Pokémon, making up the total of four for each Trainer," Andie said. "But each one of us will be using one."
"And so, just as you have to in love, you must rely on your partner and work together," Oscar said.
"Finally, whichever couple ultimately renders each of their opponents unable to battle, wins!" Andie concluded.
"She was right, those are simple," Kairi said.
"I was thinking the same thing," Sora said. "And I have a feeling it could any one of those." He points to their Pokémon.
"Male and female counterparts are all in the range for couples," Kairi said as Sora nodded with agreement.
"So let's put our love to the test," Oscar said.
"And may the couple with the strongest bonds of love win," Andie said.
"With the love you and I share, we're always winners," Oscar said.
"Oscar," Andie lovingly said.
"My dear Andie," Oscar lovingly said back.
Brendan, May, Oscar, and Andie got into position for their battle.
"We're ready whenever you are," Brendan said.
"Nidoking, if you would do the honors," Oscar said. Nidoking nodded and stepped in.
"A Nidoking, huh?" Brendan asked, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned him.
Nidoking, the Drill Pokémon
The evolved form of Nidorino
Type: Poison/Ground
Nidoking swings its large tail about to create distance, then charges in with the full force of its body behind it.
"Dear Nidoqueen, if you please," Andie said. Nidoqueen nodded and stepped in as well. May took out her Rotom Phone as well.
"How cool is this?" May asked.
Nidoqueen, the Drill Pokémon
The evolved form of Nidorina
Type: Poison/Ground
Nidoqueen has thick skin covering its entire body, protecting it from whatever techniques are used against it.
"I figured they were going to use Nidoking and Nidoqueen at the same time," Sora said.
"And I know they would use Volbeat and Illumise together, and the same can be said for Gardevoir and Gallade since they go together.
"Okay, they're both Ground-type Pokémon, so I know just the one!" Brendan said, taking out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Corphish!" His Pokéball opened and a Corphish came right out. He turned to May. "Your turn, May."
"Let's see, I could use Torchic, then I could use Beautifly, then again, I could use Swablu, or I could use Skitty since she's a good choice, too," May said. Brendan was becoming annoyed by May's indecisiveness.
"May, how about you make your choice before I start getting wrinkles!" Brendan barked at her. May became irritated by Brendan's attitude.
"I would like to make the right choice if you don't mind!" May snapped at Brendan.
The battle hasn't even started yet, and they can already see it's starting to get ugly.
"Oh, boy, here they go again," Max sighed.
"You said it," Lisia said.
May has finally made up her mind. She took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Skitty!" May called out. Her Skitty came out to battle right beside Corphish. Oscar and Andie looked right at their Pokémon.
"Okay," Oscar said.
"We'll see if you made the right choices," Andie said.
"You'll see! Corphish! Use Bubble Beam!" Brendan ordered.
"Skitty! Use Assist!" May ordered.
Max was shocked to hear his sister using Assist earlier.
"Assist already?" Max asked.
"I didn't expect this," Kairi said.
Skitty's Assist came out as Ember. They knew it was a move Torchic knew. The two attacks were coming at Nidoking, but they collided into each other instead. Corphish was annoyed by how that Ember unintentionally interrupted its attack.
"Hey, what's the idea?!" - Corphish subtitle. Skitty turned to the Ruffian Pokémon with Assist still active and hits Corphish with it. "Hey, you did that on purpose!" - Corphish subtitle. Skitty just brushed it off. Brendan became a little more angry by what happened.
"Just what kind of move was that?" Brendan asked in an accusing manner.
"Look, bub! It's your Corphish that was getting in the way!" May argued.
"Nidoking!" Oscar called out.
"Dear Nidoqueen!" Andie said.
"Show us the love with a Dynamic Punch!" Oscar and Andie ordered. Nidoking and Nidoqueen lands a Dynamic Punch on both of their opponents. Nidoking punched Corphish while Nidoqueen punched Skitty.
"Use Bubble Beam again, Corphish!" Brendan ordered.
"Slitty! Use Blizzard!" May ordered.
Corphish gets in front of Skitty, but the Kitten Pokemon fired Blizzard, freezing Corphish in place.
"That was not supposed to happen," Sora said.
"You've said it. That's a move that's never been seen before," Kairi said.
"Quick, Skitty! Assist! Melt all of that ice!" May ordered. Skitty used Assist, but it came out as Strong Shot and surrounded the frozen Corphish. "No, I wanted Torchic's Ember, but Beautifly's String Shot!"
"May should have known Assist isn't all that reliable," Kairi said.
"You're right. Skitty doesn't control what comes out," Sora said.
Skitty tried Assist again, but this time, it came out as Silver Wind. It carved into an ice sculpture shaped like Corphish. Stars forms in Oscar and Andie's eyes.
"It's gorgeous!" Oscar exclaimed.
"They're so sure that we're going to win, they've presented us with an ice sculpture!" Andie also exclaimed. Brendan made some crying sounds.
"Skitty! Use Assist, once again!" May ordered. Skitty used Assist again, and it is unleashed as Ember. It melts the ice, but it angered Corphish, so the Ruffian Pokémon chases the Kitten Pokémon around. "Brendan, do something! Skitty's its partner, you know!"
"Well, I'm not the one who thought a good idea to freeze-dry their partner!" Brendan snapped at her.
"YOUR CORPHISH GOT IN THE WAY OF MY SKITTY'S BLIZZARD!" May yelled.
"NO, YOUR SKITTY JUST HAS LOUSY AIM!" Brendan yelled back. Sora and Kairi just sighed as they hung their heads as Max and Lisia just shrugged their shoulders.
"Oh, dear. It seems those two has a long way to go before their love even comes close to ours," Oscar said.
"You're right. There's no point in continuing this," Andie said.
"I'm with you, my love," Oscar said.
"Off we go then," Andie said.
"Nidoking!" Ocsar called out.
"Nidoqueen!" Andie called out.
"Show us the love your Submission!" Oscar and Andie ordered. Nidoking and Nidoqueen grabbed each by the feet and rolled towards their opponents.
"Wow, I've never seen Submission used like that as a combination," Max said.
"Me neither. Those two could be great Coordinators," Lisia said.
"Corpshish, dodge it!" Brendan called out.
"Skitty, get out of there!" May shouted.
Unfortunately, Corphish and Skitty couldn't hear them, because Corphish was too busy chasing around Skitty. The two Pokémon saw their opponents rolling toward them, and came too fast to dodge, knocking them both out. Brendan and May have lost the match.
"Corphsih!" Brendan exclaimed.
"Skitty!" May gasped.
"Those two are tough," Sora said.
"Yeah, they are," Kairi agreed.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"Now, don't think we haven't noticed you two," Andie said as she and Oscar sets their attention on Sora and Kairi, making them flinch.
"We can tell you two are in love, so we would love to challenge you to a tag battle as well," Oscar said.
"What do you think, Kairi? Shall we accept their challenge?" Sora asked his girlfriend.
"We might as well, Sora. They made the challenge," Kairi said. "I mean, it might help to get May and Brendan remember that we're on the same team."
"This is all your fault!" Brendan accused. "It wouldn't have happened if you weren't in the way!"
"Me? You were in the way, not me!" May argued back.
"Break it up," Sora said, breaking them up. "Think you two can watch us and see how we together?"
"Fine," Brendan and May as they huffed.
"Same rules as the last time?" Kairi asked.
"Of course," Andie said.
"Now we shall use a different Pokémon," Oscar said. "Volbeat, if you please."
"Volbeat," Volbeat said, flying in.
"Illumise, it's time for your love to bloom," Andie said.
"Mise," Illumise said.
The two firefly Pokémon were ready to battle. Sora and Kairi didn't need much convincing since they knew which one they'll be sending out.
"Pikachu, you're in," Sora said.
"Chu," Pikachu said.
"Angel, you ready to go?" Kairi asked.
"Vee," Angel said.
"Okay, go in," Sora and Kairi said as their partners stepped in to battle each other.
"Volbeat!" Oscar called out.
"Sweet Illumise!" Andie also called out.
"Show us the love with a Silver Wind!" Oscar and Andie ordered. Volbeat and Illumise flapped their wings and sent out a Silver Wind right at the Pokémon couple.
"Quick Attack!" Sora and Kairi ordered. Pikachu and Angel managed to dodge the Firefly Pokémon's Silver Wind just before they were hit.
"Okay, Pikachu, use Electro Ball!" Sora ordered.
"Angel! Use Swift!" Kairi ordered.
Pikachu formed a ball of electricity and sent it right at Volbeat and Illumise. Stars orbits around it and it struck Volbeat.
"Nice one!" Sora said.
"Thanks, Sora. You weren't too bad yourself," Kairi said.
"Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt!" Sora ordered. Pikachu fired a Thunderbolt and it struck Volbeat on the mark.
"Angel! Use Headbutt!" Kairi ordered. Angel rams her head against Illumise.
"Share the love with a Thunderbolt!" Oscar and Andie ordered. Volbeat and Illumise unleashed a Thunderbolt right at the Pokémon couple.
"Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt to block!" Sora ordered. Pikachu used Thunderbolt to block. Sora turned to Kairi.
"Your turn," Sora said.
"Okay. Angel! Use Swift!" Kairi ordered. Angel fired Swift. The stars struck the Firefly Pokémon when they made contact.
"Use Iron Tail!" Sora and Kairi ordered. Pikachu and Angel came at their opponents and lands a hit on the both of them.
"Use Thunferbolt!" Sora ordered.
"Swift!" Kairi ordered.
Pikachu and Angel unleashed their attacks and overwhelmed their opponents and results in a double knockout in Sora and Kairi's favor.
"Way to go!" Sora and Kairi cheered. Sora and Kairi hugged each other. Brendan and May were awestruck by how they worked together. They looked at each other again and huffed, still angry at each other. Oscar and Andie sighed to themselves.
"Well, it would seem that love was on their side on this battle," Oscar said.
"Indeed, but nothing will ever change the love I have for you, my love," Andie said.
"Dear Andie," Oscar said.
"Oscar," Andie said.
They both share a passionate kiss with one another before turning to the group.
"Farewell, happy couples!" Oscar and Andie said in unison. They started to run hand-in-hand along with Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Gallade, Gardevoir, Volbeat, and Illumise. "We must be on our way!"
"Thanks a lot!" Sora and Kairi said in unison.
"WE"RE NOT A COUPLE! AND WE'RE NOT HAPPY EITHER!" Brendan and May yelled after them.
Later, Brendan and May were still fuming over their loss. What they thought would help them work together didn't work.
"That was the worst battle of my life," Brendan said.
"Yeah, you were pretty pathetic alright," May said.
"Excuse me?!" Brendan exclaimed. "You're the one who lost it for us, because you stink at it!"
"Care to repeat that statement?" May dared him.
"Sure. You stink at battles. There, I've said it!" Brendan said.
"Hey, I was actually holding my own, and you go and blow it for us!" May snapped at him.
"Oh, please! You couldn't your battle your way out a wet paper bag," Brendan argued.
"You think you're an expert just because your dad's a researcher? Well, you might as well just wake up and smell the coffee!" May argued.
"At least my dad taught me about Pokémon, unlike yours!" Brendan argued.
"You mean the same dad you whooped you in the first battle you ever had all because you didn't have a plan of attack? And you said I stink at battling," May sscoffed.
"At least I improved!" Brendan exclaimed.
"Improved with what? It wouldn't be age. That is literally the lamest excuse in the book," May said.
"You wanna talk about a lame excuse? I'll be glad to share! The reason I started to training Pokémon and earning Gym Badges was because I actually liked Pokémon when I was a little kid, unlike you! You didn't even like them at first and you used that as an excuse just to go and see the world! That right there is the lamest excuse in the book! And I hereby crown you the title of 'Queen of Lame'!" Brendan said. May just gasped when he just blurted it out right to her face. Sora, Kairi, Lisia, Max, Pikachu, and Angel were just as shocked as May. Her eyes just bursts in tears.
"You big jerk!" May said as she ran off crying.
"May, wait a minute!" Lisia said, going after her.
"May, come back!" Kairi said, also going after her.
"Eevee!" Angel added.
"I HATE YOU! I REALLY HATE YOU, BRENDAN!" May screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Yeah, go on and cry! Cry just like the crybaby you always were!" Brendan shouted.
"Alright, that's enough!" Sora said, finally having enough and putting his foot down. Brendan just looked right at Sora. He saw a stern face looking right back at him. "What you just said to May was totally uncalled for!"
"It's not my fault that she slowed us down in the first place!" Brendan argued.
"Just like it was her fault when Oscar and Andie won that battle," Sora said.
"Hey, I would have won it if May just did everything right!" Brendan said.
"Oh, it's 'I' and not 'we', isn't it? Well, May was right about one thing; that comment you made about lame excuses made you said to her face is something a jerk would say!" Sora said.
"So you're taking her side over mine?! Some friend you are!" Brendan said.
"Friends can have disagreements, and friends forgive each other when one of them is being stubborn over the silliest things," Sora said.
"You're saying I should forgive her? Why should I?" Brendan asked.
"Because that's what friends do, like I just said," Sora said. "I mean, you knew May when you were little kids, right?"
"Yeah," Brendan said. "But big deal. It's not like you and Kairi don't fight over stuff!"
"No, we've never argued about anything," Sora said. Brendan was shocked when he just looked at him. Max was just as surprised.
"Seriously? You mean to tell me that you two never fought about anything for long as you've known each other?" Brendan asked.
"No," Sora said.
"Not even one?" Brendan asked.
"Not even one. We never had anything to argue about. I mean, what is there to argue about? Not even after when that happened," Sora said.
"When what happened? What are you talking about?" Brendan asked.
"You remember when we went to Hollow Bastion?" Sora asked.
"Yeah, when we were looking for Ansem's study. What does that have to do with anything?" Brendan asked.
"Everything," Sora answered. As you know, me, Kairi, Riku, Naminé, Karen, Ven, Aqua, Terra, Leaf, Ash, and the Moron Trio were in Hollow Bastion and we fought a kid wearing a mask, and it wasn't Vanitas. It was someone else." Sora took in a deep breath. He was moving in to kill Kairi, so I took the blow that was meant for her and I..." Sora paused when he still remembered that Keyblade in his chest. "I sacrificed myself to save her." Brendan and Max were both shocked to hear it. "Kairi defeated that masked kid when that happened."
"No way," Max could only say.
"Sora. I never knew that," Brendan said.
"After that, I turned into a Heartless. Just when I was starting to forget, I was still holding on and Kairi ended up saving me and changed me back to human before the darkness could swallow me completely," Sora said. Sora turned to Brendan who was still shocked about what happened to him. "Kairi was afraid that she would lose me again, from when we traveled through different worlds and stopped Ganondorf right up to when we were traveling in the Johto region."
"Why are you telling me this?" Brendan asked.
"Because I know you would do the same thing for May, just as Ethan would for Kris, and Riku for Naminé," Sora said. Brendan didn't have the strength to retort when he realized that he was right. And he also realized he was wrong to yell at May over the smallest thing like her looking in the mirror and turning it into an argument. Brendan knew that he and May were both to blame because the argument was distracting them, and Sora and Kairi only won against Andie and Oscar because they worked together when he and May should have. And if he felt bad, he was about to feel even worst than bad, because he used the dislike May used to have toward Pokémon as a weapon, and made her cry; he really couldn't blame her
"You're right, Sora. I shouldn't have said that to her face," Brendan said.
"Let's go find her just so you can make up," Sora said. Brendan agreed as he, Sora, Max, and Pikachu went to join the girls in the search.
Speaking of the girls, Kairi, Lisia, and Angel found May crying up against a tree over his comment.
"May, there you are," Kairi said.
"Thank goodness we found you," Lisia said.
"Stupid Brendan," May cried. "How dare he say all that to me."
"May, come on, we gotta talk about this," Kairi said. May pulled away and they saw how puffy they were. They knew it was from all the crying she was doing, and it was very hard to blame her. Kairi took out a handkerchief. "Here, dry your eyes." May took it and dried the tears off her face.
"Sorry you had to see me like that," May said. "It's all because I'm so mad at Brendan right now."
"It's understandable, May. You feel better yet?" Kairi asked.
"Yes and no. Brendan shouldn't have said that awful thing about me to my face. That was the last straw that broke the Camerupt's back," May said.
"Well, his comment was a hurtful one. I'm sure he'll apologize for it," Lisia said.
"He can apologize all he wants, because I'm not speaking to him ever again," May said.
"Come on, May. You're not going to let one silly argument get in the way of your friendship," Kairi said.
"What friendship? If he was a friend, he wouldn't have yelled at me like he did today," May said.
"Now, May, stop that. You can't be mad at him your whole life," Kairi said.
"I can try," May said. "I mean, he gets mad at me for looking in the mirror earlier and everything."
"Is that what it's all about?" Kairi asked.
"Of course it is. And he raises his voice at me. And he blames me for that loss when it was his own fault. And then he uses my past to attack me," May said.
"I agree Brendan shouldn't have said those awful things, but that thing with the mirror was only a petty argument, and you got distracted by your fight with Brendan and it caused you to lose," Kairi said.
"Easy for you to say! How many arguments have you ever had with Sora?" May asked.
"Zero," Kairi said. May was shocked to hear her say that.
"Really?" May asked.
"I know it sounds crazy, but it's actually true. Sora and I never argued or fought over anything for as long as we knew each other," Kairi said. "Especially not after what happened in Hollow Bastion."
"What happened in Hollow Bastion?" May asked.
"It was our first time there. Sora and I ended up in a fight against someone wearing a mask, and he had two Keyblades. He was about to kill me with one of them, but Sora took the hit for me, and saving my life," Kairi said. May was shocked to hear it and so was Lisia. Her hands were over her mouth. "When I saw him vanish like he did, my world instantly shattered and I used the strength I had to take him down. After that, a Heartless showed up. And it actually spoke."
"A Heartless that actually spoke?" May asked.
"Yes, and it had Sora's voice. No, it was Sora, because that Heartless spoke out Karen's name, and mine, too. That's when I knew it was him. And he then changed back to his own self again. After that, I was afraid that I would lose Sora to the darkness again. It was like that when Sora and I went to different worlds to stop Ganondorf right until after we came to the Johto region when I ended up fighting a Heartless that actually looked like Sora. I would still be a fearful wreck if it weren't for Sora snapping me out of it," Kairi said. May and Lisia were saddened by how Sora sacrificed himself for Kairi. "I know Brendan would've done that for you."
"Kairi," May could only say. She knew Kairi was right, because he would give his own heart and his life for her. She instantly regretted the argument. "Maybe I have been too harsh on him. I should apologize to him." Kairi saw the boys coming.
"And you're about to get that chance, May," Kairi said. Before May could ask what she meant, she saw the boys coming towards them. She had her eyes on Brendan. She saw he wasn't mad anymore which was to her relief. Brendan shared that relief as well. They walked up to each other.
"Hey, May," Brendan greeted.
"Hey," May greeted back.
"May, I came here to say that I'm sorry for that fight we had back there," Brendan apologized.
"I'm sorry, too," May said.
"I've been such a big jerk, and I shouldn't have said what I said to you, especially that last one. I was way out of line when I said that to you," Brendan said.
"I was out of line, too, Brendan. I'm sorry that I got mad at you when you got mad at me," May said.
"I was being impatient. And that fight we had got worse when we were biting each other's heads off when we were battling Oscar and Andie. We would have won if we worked together like Sora and Kairi did," Brendan said.
"I agree. I mean, we can't even fight the Heartless or Organization XIII if we're fighting each other," May said.
"You're right about that," Brendan agreed. "Do you forgive me?"
"I'll forgive you if you forgive me," May said.
"That's a deal," Brendan said, shaking her hand. The two of them ended up blushing. Sora and Kairi smiled as they saw that their love was getting stronger than ever. Lisia was happy for them, too. The same thing can be said for Max. Normally he would poke fun at his sister for her crush on Brendan, but he decided not to ruin it.
Brendan and May can take pride that they now had an experience of tag battling under their belts, and that the bonds of the friendship and trust between Brendan and May has strengthened. They've taken an important step to continue their journey.
