At Thorndyke Mansion living room.
"We now go live to the office of the President." Scarlet said.
"My fellow citizens, I have sad news to bring you this morning." the president said on TV and showed a sleeping Cream, Vanilla, and Amy. "Many months ago, a connection was established between Sonic's world and our own." he said and showed Tails and Chuck at work in the lab, a meditating Tanaka and Ella in the kitchen. "Now regrettably, our connection must be severed forever."
Chris wasn't in bed but standing by the pool outside. Sonic ran by and stopped on the other side of the pool causing a few leaves to blow around and the pool to ripple.
"Morning, Chris!" Sonic said.
"Good morning, Sonic." Chris said.
"How's it goin', guy?"
"Okay."
"We can go for a run later if you want to."
"Sure." Chris said and they stood there in silence as a leaf landed in the pool.
"Unfortunately, this is the last day we'll spend with Sonic and her friends. Tonight they must return to their own world." the president narrated.
In the dining room Nelson, Lindsey, Chris, Amy, Cream, Cheese, and Vanilla were eating.
"Personally, I don't see why it's such a problem if time suddenly comes to a stop. If I don't get any older, I won't get any wrinkles." Amy said.
"But Amy, don't you think you would get bored if you were forced to live the same day over and over again forever and ever?" Vanilla asked.
"And if you don't get any older, you'll never get birthday presents." Cream said as Ella and Tanaka entered.
"I didn't think of that." Amy said.
"I have school. See you later." Chris said then got up and left.
"Enjoy yourself." Tanaka he said and bowed.
"Bye! Have a good time!" Nelson said.
"Take care, sweetie." Lindsey said.
At Chuck's lab Tails and Chuck were building something.
"No good." Chuck said.
"I wonder what we're doing wrong?" Tails said.
"On behalf of all our citizens, I extend our best wished to Sonic and her friends." the president said on TV and cleared his throat. "As you make the journey back to your home world, please remember that this world will never forget your acts of courage and heroism."
Meanwhile the TV was turned off by Card Passer, head of C.L.I.P. He kicked his feet up on the desk.
"What a blowhard! That mealy-mouthed gutless wonder should've done something to get rid of those freeloaders a long time ago. Why build an expensive machine to get rid of 'em when a couple of well-aimed missiles could do the trick?" he said when his phone rang, and he answered it. "Passer here." he said on the phone.
"Commander, we think Eggman is up to something." agent said over the phone.
At Eggman's base there was a agent hiding just out of sight of Eggman, who was sitting in front of a console.
"What's he doing?" Card Passer asked over the phone.
"He's working on something suspicious. What should we do?" Agent said on the phone.
Eggman was busy working on an electronic device.
Back in Card's office.
"Don't let Eggman out of your sight. Watch him like a hawk. I want to know his every move, and report to me directly! Is that clear?" Card Passer said on the phone.
"Yes, sir." Agent said over the phone.
Then Card Passer hung up.
"Eggman's obviously planning to make one last sneak attack before he takes a hike. He thinks he can catch us with our guard down. We had a chance to get rid of Eggman once, but the President went wobbly. He was too scared civilians might get hurt!" he said.
At Area 99 several Hot Shots took off.
At Card Passer's office.
"Well, I'm gonna finish off that freaky fanatic once and for all, and no lily-livered politician's gonna stop me!" he said.
At Chris' school.
"I wish Sonic and the others didn't have to go back." Frances said.
"On TV, they said time's gonna stop if they don't go home." Danny said.
"I know it's important and all... but... it's gonna be lonesome. I don't want things to go back to the way they were before Sonic came." Helen said.
"From the first time we met, it seemed that Sonic and I were meant to be friends." Chris said to himself. "Right from the start. We always looked out for each other. Now what if Sonic gets in trouble and I'm not there to help her?"
They heard the noise of engines outside and looked outside and saw hundreds of GUN robots flying into the city.
In Station Square Scarlet and her crew were setting up their van when they saw the GUN robots.
"What the heck are those things?" people said.
In Card Passer's office.
"Open fire." Card Passer said.
Outside Station Square the GUN robots open fire and completely demolish Eggman's base.
The three were thrown from the base.
"I wonder why our radar systems didn't detect that fleet." Eggman said.
"Unfortunately..." Bocoe said.
"...we unplugged the radar. We wanted to watch TV." Decoe said.
"This base needs more electrical outlets."
Outside Station Square the three looked up in terror.
At the White House.
"I want to know who ordered this attack!" the president said when the door opened and several government agents stood there.
"The President's office is secure, Colonel." agent said on the radio.
Meanwhile the news crew was set up outside. Several government agents approached them as well.
"They know something..." Scarlet said then put her microphone to the mouth of one of the agents. "Why can't we get through to the President's office? Has something happened to him?"
There was no answer and after seeing other agents as well, she became worried.
On the docks the GUN robots continued their flight.
Outside Station Square Sonic spun in, and stopped in front of Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe. There were smoke and explosions everywhere.
"They're not fightin' fair, Buttnik. They got you totally outnumbered." Sonic said.
"They may have me totally surrounded with thousands of attack craft, but I possess the one weapon that can easily defeat them all, which is my super-superior brain!" Eggman said and lasers struck where Sonic was standing.
"Aahh!" Eggman, Bocoe and Decoe said but he dodged in the nick of time, and returned to his original spot.
"It doesn't take a real big brain to see you're in trouble. You should leave." Sonic said.
"Dr. Eggman never admits defeat, especially when he loses." Bocoe said.
Then they screamed as a missile streaks toward them and Sonic caught it.
Then she threw it at one of the GUN robots, destroying it.
"You will probably kick me in the compressors for saying this, but I think you should listen to Sonic. This situation is hopeless!" Decoe said.
"Even an evil egomaniac needs to be realistic sometimes." Bocoe said.
"No way. I'm gonna stay right here and hold my ground 'til there is no ground left to hold!" Eggman said.
"I'll stop those robots for ya, but first, you have to leave." Sonic said.
"Forget it, hedgehog!"
Sonic leapt out of the way as more explosions rock the area.
"I'm givin' you one last chance, Eggman."
"Never mind Dr. Eggman." Bocoe said.
"Just save us! Pretty please?" Decoe said and Sonic spun and bounced from robot to robot, destroying them.
In an alley.
"This is Chalkboard Charlie. All clear here. Do you read me? Over." Mr. Stwart said on the radio.
The GUN Commander was stationed in the woods outside of Station Square, and Topaz was on top of a building.
"This is Topaz. I copy." she said on the radio.
Sonic was seen destroying the robots.
"Incredible! Sonic is Dr. Eggman's arch-enemy, yet now she's coming to Eggman's rescue!" Scarlet said.
In Card Passer's office.
"I knew that hedgehog was a traitor! Sonic and her flicky Freedom Movement's corrupting the whole country and turnin' everybody into peaceniks! When dangerous pests infest your home, there's only one sure way to get rid of 'em - and that's exterminate 'em!" Card Passer said.
At the White House Rouge was crawling through the air ducts then climbed out and landed in the hallway. Suddenly the wall was punched down.
Standing there was Knuckles, donning his Shovel Claws.
"You're taking your breaking-and-entering business way too literally." she said.
"How'd you get here?" he asked then Rouge's radio crackled to life.
"Rouge, come in. What's happening in there?" Topaz asked over the radio.
"Relax, Topaz. I ran into Knuckles. I'll let him tag along if he promises to be a good boy." Rouge said on the radio.
Knuckles was shocked.
"Rouge, some renegade agents are holding the President in his office. He's in danger. You two have to slip in there and free him fast!"
"Roger."
"Good luck, Rouge."
Then Rouge hung up.
"Who needs luck when you have talent and beauty?" she said.
Outside Station Square the Hot Shots launch missiles at the area.
Sonic had a difficult time destroying the robots and protecting Eggman at the same time. Missile will explode behind Eggman, Decoe, and Bocoe as they ran inside their shelter. As she destroyed more robots, the three villains piled inside a cockpit.
"Time for a merger." Eggman said.
"Affirmative!" Decoe said.
Eggman pushed a button, and their hut rose into the air revealing they were in part of the old Egg Fort II. Parts of the Egg Fort and Egg Carrier also rose into the air.
"Merge now!" he said.
"Roger!" Bocoe said.
Then the three sections combine to make a giant warship.
"Behold my super fortress, the greatest fighting machine ever invented, the Grand Egg Imperial!"
"We could save ourselves a lot of time and trouble if we abandoned ship now." Decoe said.
"Right." Bocoe said.
"Pipe down! We have enough firepower to send those robots down in flames. Blast them with the laser cannons!" Eggman said.
"Roger!" Decoe and Bocoe said.
The Grand Egg Imperial fired many lasers which made short work of the GUN robots.
At the White House Rouge and Knuckles knocked out the government agents holding the President at gunpoint before entering the office.
"I hope you don't mind us droppin' in." Rouge said.
"No, I don't mind at all." the president said when Topaz entered.
"Mr. President!" she said and looked at the fallen agents.
"I'm fine, thanks to them."
Topaz gave Rouge a wan smile, knowing it won't be long before she has to leave.
Outside Station Square the Grand Egg Imperial fired a freeze ray at all the remaining GUN robots, freezing them immediately and causing them to fall.
"I told you I didn't need your help, hedgehog." Eggman said and Sonic shrugged and watched it rise above the wreckage it has created. "But since you tried to save me, here's a little present for you!" he said and the Grand Egg Imperial dropped a small box into her hand and she opened it.
"What's this?" Sonic asked.
At Card's office Police officers were snapping handcuffs on Card Passer.
"We collared the commander, Mr. President. We're gonna march him off to the military police." a police officer said on the radio.
"Good work, officer. Take him away." the president said over the radio.
"Tell the President I'm not sorry. This country used to be strong, but now it's on the brink of disaster thanks to its support for Sonic! You'll see! You'll see!" Card Passer said and was escorted from the room.
Back at the White House it was now sunset.
"He's got a point. Sonic's okay, but sometimes she's a real troublemaker." Rouge said.
"I'm no Sonic fan, but it was Bu-Eggman who caused Chaos Control and sent us here. It's all his fault our worlds joined together and we got in this mess!" Knuckles said.
'I'm her best friend, not fan.' he thought.
"I guess it doesn't matter who's to blame. The important thing is to try and set things right again. We can worry about settling the score with Dr. Eggman once we make if back to our own world."
"But we have to act at once. The past isn't important. What's at stake now is our future. All of you must return to your world before time comes to a stop." the president said.
"We won't be going anywhere unless Tails and Professor Thorndyke finish their machine."
At Thorndyke Mansion Sonic, Tails, and Chuck were in the garage and Tails was holding the device Sonic was given. It was the same device Eggman was working on before his base was destroyed.
"This is the last part we need! All we have to do is put it in the machine and we're set!" Tails said.
"Let's test it out and make sure it works." Chuck said.
"Looks like we did it, Chuck!"
"With Eggman's help..." Sonic said and thought about the times he worked with her, Sonia and Manic.
At Thorndyke Mansion dark clouds covered the skies as Chris put on a suit and tie in his room.
"This is the worst day of my life. Soon, Sonic'll be gone... forever... and we'll never see each other... ever again." he said to himself.
He, Tails, and Amy headed to Chuck's car. It was set to tow the Tornado 2. Ella, Cream, Cheese, and Vanilla headed to another car. Nelson and Lindsey waved from the house as the two cars drive away.
"Sonic's my best friend. It's not fair." Chris said to himself.
"I think we should go and see them off, don't you?" Lindsey said.
"Sure, but Chris asked us not to come along, so we'll have to stay out of sight." Nelson said.
Chris said nothing as they drove away.
Last night, Chris and Sonic were on the balcony and Sonic was sitting at the railing.
"Hey... Sonic?" Chris said.
"Yeah, Chris?" Sonic said.
"Do you really want to go back to your world?"
"Well... I don't have a choice." she said and he turned to her. "As long as I've got place to run and explore, I'll be happy."
"That's good."
Back at Chuck's car Sonic was sitting on the wing of the Tornado 2.
At the Gateway Portal.
A giant portal had been set up in the middle of the bridge in Station Square to get Sonic and her friends' home. Knuckles was standing in front of this portal. Danny, Frances, and Helen were also there. Both cars arrived, and Amy, Cream, and Cheese hurried over to the kids.
"Goodbye, guys." Danny said.
"We'll miss you." Helen said.
"We wish you didn't have to go." Frances said.
Chris looked on, not knowing that his parents were keeping an eye on him.
"Time to see if this machine works." Chuck said and Tails nodded.
"Yeah." he said then pressed a button, and a pair of revolving light at the portal's top activate.
The portal activated, but turned off a moment later.
"We don't have enough power, Tails." Chuck said.
"What'll we do? The other Emeralds are still missing!"
"If they don't get another Emerald, they won't be able to cause Chaos Control. Sonic and the others will have to stay here!" Chris said to himself.
"You could use one of these." Sonic said.
From her perch on the Tornado 2, she held up the red Chaos Emerald she found in the mountains and rushed over then handed it to Tails.
"Great! We have enough power now!" he said.
"All right, Tails, let's power up!" Chuck said.
Everyone looked on excitedly as the Chaos Emerald was inserted into the Gateway Portal.
"Here goes." Tails said.
This time, the portal came to life, its bright light spreading across the city and blinding those close to it and all the Mobian animals were sucked into the portal.
"I guess it won't be long before we're all back home, guys." Amy said.
Then the Grand Egg Imperial was sucked into the portal.
"The pleasure was all yours!" Eggman said.
"Take care!" Bocoe said.
"It was nice attacking you!" Decoe said and the portal closed.
Amy dropped her suitcase in surprise.
"Hey! Why did it just shut off?" she asked.
"Chao!" Cheese said.
"We can still go back home, can't we?" Cream asked.
Everyone was surprised and sad at the same time.
"There was a power burnout. We don't have enough energy now to send the rest of you back." Chuck said.
At Station Square.
Person cross talked.
At the White House the President facepalms.
Back at the Gateway Portal Chris was standing by with a small smile.
"I'm not giving up yet!" Tails said and attempted to fix the problem.
Chuck was soon by his side.
"But Tails..." he said.
"If I make some adjustments, I think I can draw even more power from the machine." Tails said and Chuck nodded.
"It's worth a try."
Then Sam pulled up in his car but drove away immediately, causing Amy to blink in surprise.
"He didn't even get out of the car." she said.
At Station Square.
"Maybe it's time for me to hang it up. There's not another competitor out there like Sonic. When she steps through that gate, I'll lose the greatest challenger I ever had." Sam said and had a flashback of the time when Sonic executed a sonic boom. "Good luck, Sonic... and thanks." he said.
Back at the Gateway Portal.
"That was the fastest goodbye ever." Amy said.
"I think he just broke another world record." Ella said and Amy, and Cream shared a laugh.
Chris looked on, knowing this was the last time they will laugh together.
"Chuck, I think it's fixed." Tails said.
"Let's give it a go." Chuck said so Tails nodded and pressed the button, and the portal came back to life.
Shots of Space Colony ARK, were shown. Suddenly the ARK's Eclipse Cannon activated and struck the portal, intensifying the portal's power and causing them to shield themselves from the bright light.
"That light..." Chuck said.
"It's from... Space Colony ARK!" Tails said and the portal was once again active. "Now we have all the power we need! Excellent work, Tails!"
"You did great, buddy!" Sonic said smiling.
"Thanks!" Tails said and they exchanged thumbs-ups.
Chuck started to become teary and hugged Tails.
"I'm going to miss you." he said and Tails started to cry as well.
"Yeah. Goodbye, Chuck. ...You've been a great teacher... and an excellent friend, too." he said.
Chuck's tears flowed freely and Chris watched. Helen placed flower crowns on Cream and Cheese. She, Frances, and Danny were teary.
"We made this for you, Cream. We know how much you like flowers."
"It looks great on you."
"You like it?"
Cream was teary as well.
"Thank you all! I love it! ...But not as much as I love all of you!" she said then hugged Helen, and they started bawling along with Ella crying.
"Don't cry, Ella, or you're gonna make me lose it, too." Amy said.
Ella lifted the cactus that Amy had given her.
"Don't worry. I went to the plant store and bought myself a cactus to take care of. I named it Amy, after you." she said.
"That was sweet of you, Ella. Thanks. Thanks for taking care of us." Amy said as tears sprung to her eyes too. "You and Mr. Tanaka made us feel welcome."
"It was our pleasure. I wish... you could stay longer." Tanaka said and bowed.
"Here. This might help you remember me." Ella said and handed Amy a booklet and she opened it.
"You wrote down your favorite recipes so I can make them when I'm back home. Ella...!" she said and ran to her and hugged her. "Oh Ella, what'll I do without you?!"
"I don't know!"
Chris looked on.
"In a second, Sonic will go through that gate. She'll be gone forever... but I'm not ready to say goodbye." he said to himself.
Meanwhile, Scarlet and Mr. Stewart were watching the portal from a distance.
"Looks like this story's ending... but I still haven't figured out who you really are." Scarlet said.
"You'll have to keep investigating." Mr. Steward said.
"Hurry! We can't keep the gate open long! You have to leave immediately before there's a power failure!" Chuck said.
Vanilla, Cream, and Cheese flew through the portal.
"Thank you for everything." Vanilla said.
"It was nice knowing you! Bye-bye!" Cream said.
"Chao chao!" Cheese said.
Amy was next.
"Thank you all!" she said.
Tanaka bowed as Tails flew the Tornado 2 through the portal.
"It's been a blast!" he said and he and Chuck saluted as the plane vanished into the portal.
"Goodbye, Cream... Amy... Tails. I'll never forget you." Chris said to himself.
Rouge handed Topaz a beautiful gem.
"Take this before I change my mind. When I saw that gem in the jewely store, I had to get it for you. It was a steal." she said as she pocketed the gem and started to shed her own tears. "See ya." she said, waved and let the portal take her back to Mobius.
Topaz cried openly. A teary Tanaka placed a hand on her shoulder. Then Knuckles and Sonic stepped toward the portal.
"Soon we'll be back home, Sonic... Back home and we can see them again." Knuckles said and stepped into the portal.
"Okay." Sonic said and stepped toward the portal, but stopped when Chris called her.
"Sonic." he said smiling.
"Say goodbye. You know this is the right thing to do for both our worlds." Nelson said.
"You can do it, Chris." Lindsey said so Chris stepped toward Sonic.
"Well, Sonic..." he said.
"Chris..." Sonic said.
"This is it." Chris said and they shook hands. "It's been cool. I'm glad we met." he said as his eyes started watering. "Bye, Sonic... and good luck."
Sonic released his grip and they exchanged thumbs-ups.
Then she started to walk toward the portal and Chris couldn't hold in his emotions.
So he pressed the button to stop the portal. Everyone was in utter shock and Sonic turned to him.
