"Kitty!" I raise my hand in the air so he can see me, and Cat's face lights up as he finds me in the crowd. "Ready to go to the Farmer's Market?" I ask, once we get through the crowd. "I don't know if I'm excited about picking vegetables, Princess. But I'm very happy to hang out with you." "Oh, your making me blush!" I tell him playfully. "And vegetables are only part of the dish. If your cool with it, I thought we could make a chicken pot pie and a apple pie for dessert." Cat grins. "To bad we can't make a tuna pie. I love tuna." "Ugh, gross!"
It such a beautiful day, but even if it was pouring rain, as long as I'm with Cat, would feel as if the sun were shining. "How was school today?" he asks, and before I know what happening, he's reaching for my hand. "Is this alright?" he ask, lacing his fingers through mine. Now I really do blush, feeling shy as I look at up at him and nod. "School was okay. Adrien had to leave early for a photo shoot, so it was kinda lonely at lunch. Luckily, the afternoon passed quickly. How was yours?" "Oh, the usual. Take a nap, have a bath, you know the drill." "Wow, sounds like you've been working hard."
We arrive at the market, and we merge ourselves into the flow of traffic, and I take Cat around to the different stands. Before I started hanging out with Cat, I would go by myself, and I always wished for a friend to go with me. And I was right, it is more fun with a friend. We gather our supplies, stopping for coffee at a small booth. "Princess, mind if I check out another booth for a moment? I'll be right back."
I nod, relaxing in my chair, feeling the crisp almost autumn air on my cheeks. I love this time of year. Cat comes back with a bouquet of sunflowers. "Oh, Kitty, there lovely!" "There not as lovely as you, love, but they are beautiful." The breath catches in my throat at the new nickname. Cat suddenly looks embarrassed and starts stammering. "I'm sorry, Marinette, I should have-" I lay a gentle hand on his leather glove, keeping my voice soft. "I love that. But you better keep calling me Princess!"
Coffee consumed, we head back home and Cat washes the vegetables as I ready the counter. "How good are you with a knife?" I ask. "Pretty good, though I'm much better with a baton." "No, I just need you to chop veggies! Here, like this!" I cut one of the carrots slowly, but showing him the size I need. "I'll be making and rolling the pie dough, but I'll be right here."
"So, what do you like better, sewing or cooking?" Cat asks, glancing up at me from his station. Its a good question, and I take a moment to think. "There so different, but I like both, because you get to show off your skills, and having a home-cooked meal to come home to is a great feeling." Cat stops chopping, a sad look on his face. "I don't know when I got a home-cooked meal. Mother used to do all the cooking before she…." Cat wipes something from his cheek, and I know its not from a onion. Abandoning my pie crust for a moment, I walk over and give him a hug. "This can be your home, if you want to be. Sure, you won't be living here, but what I found over the years, is home isn't a building , its the people who make it."
Cat rests his forehead against mine. "I think your becoming my home, Princess." I lift my hand to his cheek, and close my eyes. "Me too, Kitty." "Marinette?" I open my eyes to see those beautiful green eyes that pull me in like a magnet, staring deeply into mine. "May I kiss you?" I nod, my heart thudding in my chest, but as Cat's warm soft lips meet mine, my heart quiets and bursts open like a bud. When we break apart, Cat is smiling. "Thank you, Marinette."
We resume our chores and I teach him how to brown a chicken and we both divide the apple chopping so it won't take as long.
Cat is setting the table, now graced with the beautiful flowers when Mama and Papa come in. "Marinette, Cat, did you do all this?" "Surprise! We cooked you dinner!" Mama's face is beaming, and Papa's mustache is trembling. "Mr. Dupain, Mrs. Cheng, this is my first time cooking a dinner. Marinette was a great teacher and you should be very proud of her." "Oh, my dears," Mama holds her arms out for a hug. "I'm so proud of both of you."
I love our family hug, and then we get down to the business of eating dinner. I don't mind that the focus is mostly on Cat tonight, after all, he's the one who needs family time, not me. "Marinette?" I look up from my slice of pie. "We invited Grandma and Grandpa for game night tomorrow. Do you think Cat would like to join as well?" "How about you ask him." "Oh, I would love to come. I should warn you though, I can be quite competitive." I laugh. "So are Papa and Grandpa, though Grandpa likes the old-fashioned way of doing this." "Cat Noir, I would be honored if you would join the boys team."
"Tom!" Mama scolds, "its not about winning or losing, its about having fun." "Yes, dear." I nudge Cat's knee, whispering, "see, you should be taking notes." Cat's breath tickles my ear. "What, am I supposed to call you "dear" now too? Your list of nicknames is growing, Princess."
As I help Mama clean up the dishes, Papa and Cat have a lively video game session in the living room. "Your so much happier now that you and Cat are hanging out." "I'm not alone anymore," I tell her. As soon as the words leave my mouth, Cat looks over at me, and I know he feels the same way.
Even if we've been together most of the afternoon, its hard to say goodbye. Cat gives a kiss, asking me if he can walk me to school. "I'll be here."
I sigh as he leaves, and sit down next to Papa. "Your dating a fine young man, Marinette, and he's a keeper." I nod, deep in thought. Still, I wish I knew who was under the black mask. Even if he's been patient about it, I'm sure Cat feels the same about me as Ladybug. Does that mean, its time to reveal? The minute I think it, my heart thuds in my chest, and I have to take a deep breath. "Marinette, your pale. Everything okay?" I nod, painting a smile on my face.
"I'm just tired, so I think I'll turn in." Once in bed, I stare at the pictures of Cat and Adrien side by side for a long time. Similar, and yet so different, and when I dream, I dream of both of them.
Cat Noir was restless, so after many hours of tossing and turning, he quietly leaped out the window into the night, finding a quiet rooftop to think. He couldn't keep Marinette off his mind, and how whole his heart felt when they were together.
He was excited to meet more of her family too, and when was the last time he had played games with anyone? Cat sighed, looking up at the moon. Tomorrow would come soon enough, but if he wanted to be sharp for the games, he really should get some sleep.
Both Cat and Marinette slept deeply, unaware they were on each other's minds. Tomorrow was a another school day, another day where Marinette had to wait to see Cat. But little did she know it would be a fun school day, thanks to a certain Adrien Agreste.
Marinette sighed in her sleep, her fingers touching her lips, where she had kissed Cat Noir. The more she hung out with her partner, she was finding there was more to him then this jokes and puns. Cat had a sensitive side too, that she was just discovering.
But she was discovering more about herself too, and opening up more and more to her best friend.
