Cordelia grabbed Xander's ear. "Okay, Doofus, we're gonna have us a talk. There'll be no more of this patrolling by yourself, you hear me? And we're going talk about what this Queen business means. Come on, let's go." And tugged him toward the door of the library.
Xander got a lope sided grin on his face and said. "As you wish, my Queen." And followed her out.
"Don't think I don't know what that means, I've seen Princess Bride!"
"Is he with her because of this change?" Willow asked. "Because that is a really unnatural relationship. She's so mean to him."
"She's not mean to him, Willow." Connie said.
"Didn't you hear her calling him names? And what's with the pulling on his ear?"
"Willow, listen to the tone of her voice. Doofus is an affectionate name. And her tone is definitely one of concern. She's worried he's going to get hurt trying to protect her. Until she understands the full ramifications of his change, she's going to be worried. She obviously cares deeply for him and he her. They're fine. Leave them be."
"But she's so forceful!"
"She's not overwhelming him, Willow. He obviously likes strong woman with a mind of their own. He's decided, she's the ultimate of what makes a woman perfect, as far as he's concerned."
"And I'm not strong enough or something?"
"He sees you totally differently, Willow. As a sister. That's not a knock on your strength. Plus, he's not attracted to you. You can't make someone see you the way you want them to see you. You have to accept their perception, not force your own on them."
"At least he sees you in a nice way, Willow. He's revolted by me."
"He's not the only one. Aside from Willow, everyone's revolted by you choosing Angel, not to mention having sex with him. Are you aware that makes you necrophiliac? Which is a crime, by the way. Soul or no soul, he was a walking corpse with a demon in him. Like everyone else, I am totally unable to except your choice. Oh, I get why you chose him. You have some serious deep seated issues that need to be addressed and dealt with. Which is why I've decided to take a six month sabbatical and stay here in Sunnydale. Because you need some serious help." Connie told her.
Buffy gaped at her.
"I also get why Willow supported you. It twofold. One, she was trying to be a good friend. Two, she was trying to keep you and Xander apart because she noticed his interest in you and wanted him for herself. That's selfish, Willow. I don't think Xander and Buffy would have made a good couple, but that was their choice to make, not yours."
"Why wouldn't we have made a good couple?" Buffy asked, annoyed.
"Because you would have tried to overwhelm him. You feel you're superior to him and therefore, he should be subservient. That's one of the reasons you chose Angel, because you saw him as an equal to you. Problem is, he saw himself as superior to you. You were never going to be equal in that relationship, either. You know nothing about him, not just because you didn't ask, but because he didn't share. He didn't feel the need to share himself with you."
"He loved me!"
"He desired you, there's a difference. You're too young to understand that. And I don't mean, as in your age, I mean young as in your thinking. You were a six year old with a fairy tale romance. That's not real life. You tricked yourself into thinking it was."
"I've got a few things to say to you too, Rupert Giles. My God are you blind or what? I have never understood the Watcher's attitude toward Slayers. It's as though you think they cease to be human the moment they're activated. They don't. I've often wondered if Slayers don't choose to die just to get away from you people. And there's you. Your obliviousness to what is going on in the lives of these young people is staggering. You claim to care and yet I see no evidence of it. You allowed Buffy to engage in an extremely dangerous relationship that you knew was wrong and said nothing. The damage to her mind, her sense of self, is bad and will take a great deal of time to heal. And Xander was affected by that ritual over a year ago and you, who has training and experience noticed nothing. As I understand it. Jenny didn't meet him until after it happened. She had no way of knowing anything had changed. But you knew about the ritual and potential consequences and did nothing. What if he had been possessed? It may have been too late to save him. You need to actually pay attention to what's going on around you. What else might you have missed?"
