A/N Hey, guys. This is my second Spider-Man fanfic, but this time, I wanted to explore a new story on a new and original character. This story will focus on my original character Adam Chiang and his story on becoming Spider-Man while he balances his high school life and being a hero that New York needs. And this story will set in a different universe, but I will also add some of the characters that were already introduced from the Marvel comics. So, this is the first chapter, and let's get right to it.
I only own the original characters as well as my own plot, but the characters from the comics only belongs to Marvel, not me.
Waking up in the month of September, Adam Chiang, rubbed his brown eyes as he turned off the alarm next to him. Putting on his pair of glasses, he walks out of his bedroom to get ready for his first year at Midtown High as a freshman. Walking past his parents' bedroom, the dark brunette haired teen turned on the water as he brushed his teeth before he turned off the tap water and took off his pyjamas as he walked towards the bathtub. Closing the curtains behind him, Adam turned on the water as it platters on his dark curly brunette hair. Once he was done, he stepped out as he grabbed a towel and dried himself off. Stepping out of the bathroom, he nearly runs into his father.
"Morning, dad." he greeted.
"Morning, bud. You excited for your first day of high school?" his father, Daniel asked.
"I don't know. I mean, I already miss the middle school days." Adam replied.
Ever since graduating from middle school, Adam and his parents had moved to an apartment at the East Village so he could ride a subway train that would take him right to Midtown High. After getting dressed up and ready for his first day as a ninth grader, Adam left his apartment and went to a nearby subway station. Unbeknownst to him, a mysterious woman was secretly observing him.
"Adam Chiang, you are a mysterious kid. And I sense something truly special about you. But you just don't know about it yet." Cassandra Webb muttered to herself.
Next to Cassandra is Julia Carpenter, who has a strawberry blonde hair, blue eyes, and is wearing a pair of glasses, as she also observes the dark brunette haired teenager running to the subway station.
"What's the plan?" asked Julia.
"We should continue observing him. But let's keep our distance for now." Cassandra replied.
The older woman and her apprentice soon left the district, having decided to find out more about the dark brunette haired teen before they can approach him. Cassandra possesses the power to look into the future of those who would become a hero, such as Peter Parker and Miles Morales, who are destined to become Spider-Man. And she had this feeling that a fourteen year old teenager like Adam Chiang would be destined to become the next Spider-Man.
Meanwhile, the Chinese teen made it to the subway station as he boarded the train and before the doors could close, a Japanese female teen, who looked around his age, quickly ran to the train just as the PA system came on and told the passengers to stand clear of the closing doors. Adam eyed her suspiciously, but he quickly drew his attention back at the map, wondering what stop he's supposed to get off at. Unsure where to get off, he brings out his phone and searched the address of Midtown High until he found the address before looking at the stop he needs to get off at.
After arriving at a designated subway stop, Adam got off the train as he walked down a set of stairs and made his way to Midtown High. Walking to the front entrance, he observes some of the students who are new and those who were returning either for their sophomore, junior, or senior year in Midtown High. Being new to the school, the dark haired teen went to physics class, having already picked up his timetable for the semester beforehand.
"Good morning. I'm Monica Warren, but please call me Ms. Warren. And I'm your physics teacher for this year."
Before the lesson could start, a Japanese female teen ran in at the last second and Adam looked up before he realized she was the same person he had seen while he was on board the subway train.
"Sorry!" the female quickly apologized.
"Nice of you to join us, Ms. Watanabe. Find your seat and we'll get started."
Moments later, Adam left the physics class and went to history class next. While he was walking, the female teen was running up behind him.
"Excuse me, do you know where history class is?" she asked.
"I'm just about to go over there. We can walk together." he replied.
"Hey, I've seen you before. You were on the subway train this morning, right?" she reminded.
"Yep, that was me." he said.
"That was rude of me. I don't your know name. I'm Rebecca Watanabe." she said as she held her hand out.
"I'm Adam. Adam Chiang." he said as he shook her hand.
Rebecca offered her sweetest smile at him, as Adam smiled back at her.
"Want to walk to history class?" he asked.
"Sure." she replied.
Later at lunch time, Adam and Rebecca sat at a table across from each other, talking amongst each other before one of the kids sits on a seat that's a little far from them.
"So, what do you think of high school so far?" asked Rebecca.
"I still miss my days in middle school because I have a lot of friends there. But I guess high school's okay so far." Adam replied before asking her, "What about you?"
"It's all right for me." she replied.
"Hey, you want to hang out after school? Like, we could go somewhere." he offered.
"Like, you and me?" she asked.
"Well, it doesn't have to be since you're my only friend I've made so far." he replied as he scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"I would love to." she said as she smiled sweetly.
"Awesome. I'll see you later?" he said.
Rebecca nodded as she tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.
At the end of the first day, Adam went to meet with Rebecca at the school's front entrance, as he leaned by the staircase, waiting for her. Later, she walked out with her backpack slung on her shoulders. She smiled at him as he smiled back at her.
"Hey, you ready to go?" he asked.
"Yep. Let's go." she replied.
The two friends walked down a street to Starbucks as Adam glanced at Rebecca's brunette hair, but with coloured highlights. She then caught him glancing at her as he had failed to look away from her.
"What?" she asked playfully.
"Nothing. You look really nice today." he replied.
"Thank you." she said.
"So uh, you heard that we have a field trip coming up this month?" he asked.
"Mm-hmm. To the Empire State University, one of the best schools in NY." she replied.
"I mean, we basically just started our first year of high school and we're not close to applying for colleges yet." said Adam.
"Have you thought about what colleges you're gonna apply to when we get to our senior year of high school?" asked Rebecca.
"Anywhere that's close to home here in NYC, like Colombia, NYU, or the ESU." Adam replied before asking her, "What about you?"
"I'm thinking about going to MIT or Harvard because they're both in Massachusetts." Rebecca replied.
"I think MIT could be suited for you because they have some of the best technological and scientific geniuses on campus." he pointed out.
"I'm not really into this whole science thing, but we'll see which colleges will accept us." she said.
"Good point." he agreed.
"So, what does your parents do for profession?" she asked.
"My dad's an electrician and my mom's a nurse at a hospital." he replied before he asked her, "What about you?"
"I have a mom, who's the captain of the NYPD, but my father left us before I was born." she replied.
"You're joking. What kind of a father would leave his family right before his child is born?" he muttered.
Sometime after hanging out with Rebecca, Adam had returned to his apartment and got started on his homework assignment. While he was doing his homework, he heard a knock on the bedroom door.
"Hold on." he called as he puts down his pencil before adjusting his glasses and opened the door.
"Hey, honey." his mother, Grace greeted.
"Hey, mom." Adam replied.
"How was school today?" she asked.
"It was all right. I made a new friend today." he said.
"Is it a girl?" Grace teased.
Adam lets out a loud groan. Anytime he mentions that he made a friend, Grace would tease him if he's friends with a girl in school. Adam wasn't ready to ask a girl out on a date yet due to not having experience with relationships. He then explained to his mother that the school had arranged a field trip to the Empire State University, one of the best universities in the world next week.
After finishing his homework, Adam putted away his pencil in his pencil case and stashed his completed homework in his backpack as he went to join his parents for dinner. Adam was proud of his Chinese ethnicity since his family is from China. Later, after finishing the dinner, he went straight to bed as he decided to call it a day. Taking off his glasses and placing them on the desk, the Chinese teen turned off the lamp next to him and pulled the covers over him. And he has this feeling that next week was gonna be hectic, although what he doesn't know is that his life was about to change for him.
And that will wrap up the first chapter for now. So, what do you guys think so far? I actually thought about posting a new Spider-Man fanfic since my previous one that I published a few years ago. In the next chapter, the field trip to the Empire State University and the spider bite. If you guys are curious which style I'm exploring on, I'm writing the animation style just like how the animation team made and animated the characters from the movies Into The Spider-Verse and Across The Spider-Verse. And, I actually pictured Rebecca Watanabe being voiced by Devyn Nekoda. Also, which of the Spider-Man villains do you guys want to see in this story? Let me know in the reviews and I will see you guys in chapter two.
