Takes place when the Eppes were kids…

12-Year-Old Don rushed when he saw Charlie being surrounded by several rather scary looking bullies ganging up on his little brother. He was especially concerned since he saw who was leading the group.

Roger Calden, a rough-around the edges 15-year-old who had just returned from juvie and one of the scariest people he had ever seen and he didn't want to know what he was planning for Charlie.

"Stop! What's going on?" Don demanded as he ran in front of Charlie and began to stare down the bigger boy ahead of him, not knowing what the scary guy would even do to him.

"Stay out of the way, the little runt just called me an idiot!" Roger yelled in a rage that Don had never even seen before

"No I didn't!" Charlie spoke up, "I just asked what you knew about Algebra and you tried taking a swing at me."

This angered Roger even more and attempted to take a swing when Don kicked him hard below the belt, causing the guy to moan in pain before taking Don's top shirt and prepared to hit a younger boy when a different voice spoke up

"What is going on here?" Principal George Lorenz said, though he knew the answer to that.

Roger had a look that Don didn't recognize but he supposed he knew that he was in trouble, but with who?

"Nothing!" Roger lied

"Really? Because it looks like you were about to beat up two more kids, as Jimmy Benson had just gone to the hospital thanks to your little work." The principal cooly said with his hands on his hips.

This shut up Roger, who was then hauled by Lorenz to the office while one of the teachers checked on the Eppes brothers before calling their parents to let them know of the situation.

Roger was expelled after that and was sent to Juvie for a while before being released to his parents, and then the Caldens promptly moved and the Eppes didn't hear anything about them for many years.

Roger came to Don's attention during a case, as he was one of the runners for a drug kingpin, and was soon sent to prison for three murders and racketeering. That was the last time either brother ever ran into him.
