Chapter 1: An Unfamiliar Place
Huntington, New York-Sun; September 25-Morning
Misery. That is all that 20 year old Audrey has been feeling for a while now. She really hates her job at Bean Bros Cafe as a part of her wish that she would've just stuck with NYU and be with her friends and most especially her best friend, Ingrid. But here she was about to resume another day of her normal miserable life.
So of course, she woke up and did her daily routine. She got dressed into her work uniform, washed her face and had a simple breakfast prepared for her by her mom who had to leave extra early today for her job at Long Island Jewish Medical Center located in Queens. Her father also had to leave early for his job as a police officer. So that just left Audrey here home alone with just her simple breakfast consisting of just a waffle and some hot coffee on the side.
After breakfast, Audrey grabbed the keys to her Nissan pathfinder as she left her two story house and headed over to her car in the parking lot.
God I hate my job. Audrey thought.
Huntington, New York-Sun; September 25-Morning
Audrey was just now driving to her workplace in which she works and while still half asleep. Right when Audrey reached the intersection that she was supposed to make a right at in order to reach the coffee shop in which she worked at, the light was about to turn red as all the other drivers around Audrey were beginning to slow down. But not Audrey as since she was still half asleep, she did not slow down even in the slightest. Then suddenly, as Audrey made a right turn on the intersection, a mail truck came out of nowhere and rammed right into the unsuspecting twenty year old's car causing everything to go black.
Somewhere-???-???
Seteth and his younger sister, Flayn were both just inside the Holy Mausoleum, mourning over a few deceased nabateans whom they both knew very well until the Red Canyon Tragedy occurred which killed them. Rhea did not come as she was too busy preparing for the busy year ahead of her as imperial year 1179 was nearing its end and imperial year 1180 was just about to begin. So instead Seteth and Flayn went on their own.
While mourning over one particular tombstone. The two nabateans both looked over to see a lot of light then suddenly a huge hunk of metal emerged from the light. By the looks of things, the object appeared to resemble a horseless wagon, what with the wheels but it was metallic and it was moving very fast before it eventually slowed to a stop only a few seconds before crashing into a wall.
"Brother what is-." "Stay back Flayn" Seteth said as he unsheathed his dagger and began to slowly approach the strange object. "Alright! Come out of there and explain to me what you think you are doing!" Seteth warned. "You are in a restricted area! Get out of the vehicle immediately!" Seteth shouted as he continued slowly approaching the vehicle.
Once he reached its driver's side, he peered in to see an unconscious woman who looked like she was in her early twenties. "What the-." "Brother, what is it!?" Flayn asked. "Just stay there Flayn" Seteth said as he tried to open up the car door but to no avail. So he resorted to more extreme measures, he with all his strength, punched a hole through the car window, shattering it upon impact.
Then he pulled the limp body out of the car as luckily the body was small enough to fit through the car window. He then placed the body against a nearby wall then he checked for pulse as much to his surprise, there was still a pulse. So Seteth ultimately decided that he would just wait there until the person would wake up. "Brother! Who is that?" Flayn asked as she ran over to Seteth and observed the body. "I don't know Flayn. But I suggest that we should just stay here until she wakes up so that we can figure out if she is a friend or a foe" Seteth replied.
Holy Mausoleum-Sat; Pegasus Moon 23-Midday
Ooooh… fuck me. Why does my head hurt like hell right now? Audrey thought as she woke up blurry eyed.
She looked around her as she saw her car to her left. But she did not recognize the room that she was in as there was a huge ceiling and other than that, there wasn't really much else that Audrey could see. But she did hear a set of unfamiliar voices come from in front of her as she looked over to see two figures standing in front of her who both appeared to be conversing about something that she did not know about.
Once her vision got cleared up, she got a better look at the two people who were standing right in front of her. The person to the right appeared to be a man and he had green hair and a short green beard. He also wore a dark blue outfit. Next, the person to the left appeared to be a girl and she had long green hair and wore a black dress with fluffy sleeves. Audrey was very confused by the appearance by the two people in front of her as for one, their hair did not look dyed as in fast it looked very natural and two, they both appear to be wearing medieval clothing.
Who are these people? Historical reenactors or something? Audrey thought.
"Can someone please tell me where the hell I am?" Audrey blurted out, causing the two people in front of her to immediately stop their conversation as they both turned to face Audrey. "Ah I see that you are awake" the green haired man said before unsheathing his dagger and pointing its tip at Audrey, causing the twenty year old's face to pale and then causing the person herself to nervously gulp before putting her hands up. "Tell me intruder" the green haired man began with a biting authority to his voice. "State your name, your business, who you are and where you come from. And if you lie or try to escape then I will not hesitate to end your life so explain right now" the green haired man finished. "But can you please just tell me where I am?" Audrey asked.
"Do you seriously not know where you are!? Do you really expect me to believe such a lie coming from a fiend like you? You clearly know where you are" the green haired man replied as he pressed the dagger's pointy tip against Audrey's throat now. "Brother!" The younger girl who Audrey just found out is the older man's little sister, piped up. "Is this really necessary? I mean what if she is telling the truth" the girl added as she turned to face Audrey. "If you really want to know then you are inside the Holy Mausoleum. Located underneath Garreg Mach" the girl said.
Huh!? Garreg Mach? Holy Mausoleum? What the hell are these people talking about? I mean even though I never really did that good in history class back in high school. I at least know that never in Earth's history has there ever been a place called Garreg Mach. Audrey thought.
To Audrey she realized that could only mean one thing… for whatever reason the impact with the mail truck may have sent her to this messed up alternate reality medieval version of Earth where the people here have green hair. She knew that it was a disturbing thought but to her it just felt like the most likely scenario right now.
"Alright, now that you know where you are. If you want to keep your life then you will state to me what your name is, what your business here is and whichever land you hail from. Otherwise I will not hesitate to end your life" the man warned. "My name is Audrey, Audrey Dustin Archer. I-I was just driving to work until a mail truck came out of nowhere and rammed into me, I'm guessing that the impact sent me here. I am twenty years old and I work at a cafe. Finally-" Audrey immediately cut herself off about what she was able to say.
She thought her next words carefully even though she wanted to tell these guys that she came from another world but she knew that would sound crazy so she decided not to. "I come from a faraway land, a land that you never heard of" Audrey finished. "What is the name of this land?" The man asked. "This land is called Long Island and it is located far, far away" Audrey replied. "Do you really expect me to believe what you just told me!? For one, what is a mail truck and for two, I am unaware of warp magic that is capable of transporting individuals great distances" the man replied. "Brother! What if she is telling the truth? I mean her shirt reads the word, 'Bean Bros Cafe' on it and that vehicle she was driving did seem very strange as that all proves that she is most likely a foreigner" the girl replied. "Hm…" the man just simply muttered as he looked Audrey up and down before looking her car up and down as well. "Well… even if she is a foreigner," the man begins. "How does she speak Fodlanese?" The man finished. "What is this Fodlanese you guys are talking about?" Audrey asked. "It is the name of the language we are speaking as we are in Fodlan after all" the man answered.
Fodlan? That is certainly a name of a country or continent that I don't recognize but hey medieval fantasy world after all. Audrey thought.
"Um.. I don't know what you are talking about. I mean I along with everyone else back home have been speaking this language our whole lives. Hell, where I come from, This language is known as English" Audrey replied. "English? What a very interesting language considering how similar it is to Fodlanese" the man replied.
"Look, that is all that I have to tell you now. Can you please let me go?" Audrey asked. "Even though I believe your story. I just do not trust you so this is the part in which you die" the man said before he pulled his dagger away before plunging it towards Audrey's throat.
Shit, after all of that. I am going to get the knife? Audrey thought.
"Stop!" The girl cried out, her voice ringing throughout the Holy Mausoleum. The man's dagger was now only a few centimeters away from coming in contact with Audrey's throat. "I think I have a proposition that doesn't involve Audrey being killed" the girl said as Audrey and the man both gave her curious looks. "Audrey can work for the monastery. I mean you have always complained about the monastery being so understaffed haven't you, brother?" The girl asked. "Hmmm… well I am guessing that this is a reasonable proposition" the man said as he turned back to face Audrey. "Alright Audrey, consider yourself lucky as to how my merciful sister over here spared you from death. Now I'll let you live as long as you work for the monastery which we will go into more detail with over in my office. But if you decline this offer then I will just kill you" the man said. "So what would it be, the job or your life?" The man asked.
"Not the knife," Audrey pleaded. "I will choose the monastery," she added.
"Okay well then, welcome aboard Audrey" the man said, extending his hand to help Audrey get back on her feet as she hesitantly accepted it. "Suppose that now won't be a better time for my sister and I to introduce ourselves. My name is Seteth and I am the holy chamberlin to the archbishop. I am also the headmaster of the Officers Academy here at Garreg Mach" Seteth introduced himself. "And this here," Seteth began, gesturing towards his younger sister. "Is my little sister, Flayn" Seteth introduced Flayn to Audrey.
"Well now, since introductions are out of the way, I reckon that we should begin leaving this place," Seteth said. "But what about my car?" Audrey asked. Seteth then faced Audrey's car then faced Audrey herself. "So that is what it is called. Well… I reckon that we destroy it to rid any evidence that you were ever down here but it looks like that it would be pretty hard to destroy so I will come back down here on my own time to rid it" Seteth replied before he and Flayn both began heading towards the nearby staircase as Audrey followed suit.
Garreg Mach Monastery-Sun; Pegasus Moon 23-Midday
Audrey could not believe what she saw as she exited from the mausoleum. Right after she realized that she exited from a white tower, she looked into the horizon as there she saw a beautiful mountain range in the distance. She then looked over as she saw a creature she never thought she would see in real life.
I know that I am definitely no longer on Earth. Audrey thought.
She saw a pegasus flying in the air. Sitting atop the animal was a woman in silver armor and wielding a lance.
She then looked over to see a monastery which just had to be one of the most breathtaking sights that Audrey had ever set her eyes on. This was even more impressive than those structures in Europe that she with her family or sometimes her friends would like to visit. "What are you doing?" Seteth interrupted as Audrey turned to face the man himself. "Oh I was just taking in my sights, see I have never seen anything like this before" Audrey replied. "Well you can sightsee later as now what we should be doing is deciding what you will be doing here now that you work here" Seteth replied as the group began to make their way across the bridge and to the monastery up ahead.
While walking, Audrey looked around as she saw many people who all looked around her age and they all wore a strange black uniform. But Audrey guessed that they were all students at the Officers Academy in which Seteth told her about. She then noticed many nuns and knights as well. The group then entered a building and they climbed up the stairs leading to a floor which from there the group entered a room.
Seteth then locked the door to the room then headed on over to his desk with Flayn sitting in a chair across from her older brother's desk. Seteth then gestured for Audrey to sit at an empty chair across from his desk which she did.
"Alright Audrey" Seteth began. "Now that we are finally here we can begin to discuss what you will be doing here. I should ask you, what skill are you most excelled in?" Seteth finished. "Well, back home I attended school and well I was studying how to become a teacher. But I only dropped out just recently because the work was just too much for me to handle. But I do indeed have some teaching experience" Audrey replied. Seteth's brow furrowed in curiosity as he put a hand on his bearded chin. "So you said that you have teaching experience?" Seteth began. "What did you teach exactly?" He once again asked. "Well I taught simple subjects such as math and writing to little kids but that was about it" Audrey replied. "But do you have any experience in fighting?" Seteth asked. "Well I was a black belt in karate but that was a very long time ago" Audrey replied. Seteth's brow furrowed in confusion.
Right, karate probably doesn't exist here. Audrey thought.
"Um it is basically a style of combat where I come from" Audrey explained. "Well then, I think that a reasonable position for you to take up during your time here will be working as an assistant professor at our Officers Academy" Seteth said.
"Wait! You are telling me that you want me to educate soldiers? But I know nothing about war tactics and that type of stuff" Audrey protested. "I assure you, there is nothing to worry about as you will be working as an assistant to one of our amazing professors," Seteth replied. "Also, since you will be working as an assistant professor. You will be going on missions with the professor and the students so we obviously need to train you in the arts of combat during your time here. So you will have to just learn through experience" Seteth added.
"So that is all for today. There will be a faculty meeting over in the meeting room tomorrow so please don't miss it as I will privately go over with you who you will be working with" Seteth said. "Also, your room number will be '019' situated near the student dormitory," Seteth added. "Oh wait! And one more thing that I almost forgot to add is to never and I mean it, never tell the archbishop that you were in the Holy Mausoleum because if you thought that I was difficult to persuade for mercy then the archbishop is a totally different matter entirely" Seteth finished before shooing Audrey away.
Once Audrey left Seteth's office, she breathed one heavy sigh of relief before beginning to process what just happened to her.
Okay… so I just got transported to a medieval society on another planet. And not just any medieval society but one with pegasi and green haired people. At this point I really will not be too surprised if I see magic, a dragon or maybe even blue haired people here in this new world. Finally, I got hired to work as an assistant professor at some military school. Audrey thought.
Well, at least I don't need a college diploma to do this teaching gig. She once again thought.

A/N: Hello everyone, I hope that you all enjoyed the first chapter to my brand new Fire Emblem Three Houses self insert fanfic. Quick thing to note, this story does indeed take place within the world of My other fanfiction, Beyond Earth which is a self insert take on the Pokemon anime. Except the Pokemon universe does not exist and the events of that fanfiction do not take place. I was originally going to have Ingrid, my protagonist from Beyond Earth, be the main protagonist of this story but I decided against it. Because I wanted to add a little more world building by having this story take place from the perspective of one of Ingrid's friends. Also, I was originally going to have Audrey work at Starbucks but I ultimately decided against it because I wanted to avoid product placement in this story. I cut out the part where Seteth tells Audrey that he will assign one of the Knights of Seiros to train the latter because I thought that it would be better for Audrey to learn combat through experience. I also included a reference to the year in which Three Houses was released here in this chapter. I hope that you are all looking forward to the next chapter as in that one, we will get to see how Audrey is adjusting to life at Garreg Mach Monastery. See you all soon and constructive criticism is always welcome!
