"Come on," Tony said, standing outside of the car, waiting impatiently for his partner.
His partner who was currently refusing to get out of the car. She didn't even say anything to him, she just shook her head.
"If you think that I am getting out of this warm car to be out in the cold then you are extremely mistaken," she informed him.
"Considering the whole point of us being here kind of hinges on us both being out of the car, that means that you have to, I don't know, get out of the car."
"And I told you that I do not want to get out of the car."
"You have to get out of the car so we can get on the beach."
"Technically you could drive onto it," Ziva pointed out.
Tony had to admit that although this was frustrating it was also kind of funny, mainly because throughout this argument Ziva's voice was muffled by the glass making it sound all distorted and weird. Yes, he was easily amused. Which helped when you had a ninja glare at you.
"It's not even that cold," he told her, looking around.
Sure, it was a bit breezy but they were by the sea so of course it was breezy. It wasn't raining, which was a plus. Being at the beach when it rained was just depressing.
"Tony, it is Autumn. Of course, it is cold."
"Winter is cold. Not autumn. Autumn's just... fresh."
"It is not fresh. It is windy."
"Which is fresh. Come on. It's good for the lungs."
"Probably not yours," she pointed out.
He rolled his eyes at her.
"It's not cold enough even for my lungs." This is actually good for him. Dr Pitt had actually told him so. Something about good, clean, salty air helping them or something.
"I am staying here, in the heat," she said stubbornly. "You go to the beach."
"As tempting as that is-"
"Then go."
Oh, he was tempted. Very tempted. But that would defeat the whole purpose of bringing her to a beach. Which was the whole point of this. He even pointed this out but Ziva remained unimpressed.
"Then it should be my decision," she replied. "And I do not want to go today. It is too cold."
Okay, now she was just being dramatic. She had been here for one winter already and it was definitely colder than Autumn then.
"It'll be fun," he coaxed. "You know it will be fun. You enjoyed the last time."
"The last time it was not so cold."
"You do realise that you're acting like a child," he tried.
Ziva hated being called childish. Even more so than the normal adult. She had such a visceral reaction to it that Tony didn't even try to find out why. It wouldn't get him anywhere except possibly the hospital so that was something he actually left well enough alone for a change. Not that it stopped him from using this to his advantage of he had to.
But, sure enough, she sent him a terrifying glare.
"I am not acting like a child; I am acting sensibly."
"Of course, you are."
"I am!"
Getting fed up, he yanked her door open. The indignant squawk he got was incredibly amusing but he couldn't focus on that right now.
"Look, now there's no heat. You have to get out."
Grumbling and glaring at him in a way that briefly terrified him, she did just that.
"Just breath in that nice, sea air!"
Tony decided to demonstrated by doing just that in an extremely exaggerated way. Only to inhale some sand or something and start coughing wildly. Of course, this made Ziva laugh at him. Which he was going to use to his full advantage.
"I saw you smile!" He crowed. "You are having fun."
She crossed her arms. "I am not."
"You are!"
"I'm not!"
"I know you; you're having fun and you can't deny it."
She just huffed at that which Tony took to mean that he had won. Deciding that he didn't need anything else, he let himself smile and just stand there.
Or, rather, he did until Ziva started walking away from him!
"Hey!"
Then he realised that she wasn't walking towards the car but rather along the beach.
"If we have to be here, I am not going to stand around and freeze to death," she called over her shoulder.
He ran to catch up with her.
"You're the one wearing a jumper!"
It was a very nice one, she looked good in that dusky pink.
"Because it is cold!"
"It isn't!"
He had caught up with her now and tugged at her elbow so she wouldn't be walking at that fast a pace.
"Come on, you need to slow down. Appreciate the scenery around you."
"What scenery? We are on a beach. There is sand and there is water."
Tony looked around, hoping for inspiration. There really wasn't much to speak of on this beach. Which, admittedly, was a mistake on his part. There weren't even many shops along the sea front, it was literally just a patch of sand surround by rocks. A lot of rocks, actually. He just hoped that Ziva didn't get it into her head to climb them because he was not in the mood to risk life and limb today. They were off work so that would be very unnecessary.
"The waves look pretty cool," he tried.
Because they did, crashing into the sand. He always liked watching the waves. Especially the big ones. They were cool. They always reminded him of the cool surfing tricks he saw in movies. He'd always wanted to try them, never got the chance to though.
"I am not going near the water," she said instantly.
"I didn't say we were. We aren't dressed for it."
"We aren't dressed for the cold either," she said darkly.
"I'd hate to see what your wear to the beach in winter."
"We are not going to the beach in winter!"
