Chapter 2: Siblings Suck!

The last year of Prince Hans' life has been nothing but suffering and misery for the crimes he committed in Arendelle. Ever since he tricked Princess Anna into falling in love with him, leaving her for dead, and trying to kill Queen Elsa; he has been practically living in the dungeon that he witnessed so many people get thrown into when he was growing up in his homeland of the Southern Isles. His oldest of his twelve brothers, King Anders has been making sure his life was as equivalent to a living Hell as possible. His other eleven brothers who were the other princes of his kingdom; Christian, Elias, Todd, Phillip, Lars, Erik, Leif, Noah, Oliver, Henrik, and Tobias; also did their best to make his life miserable. None of this is anything new to how things were before the events that took place last year. Growing up, Hans' parents were always busy with their royal duties that they barely gave any attention to their 13 sons. Whatever attention was given to them, Hans got the smallest amount of affection they gave or really none at all when his 12 brothers were favored more. When it was just Hans and his brothers, they abused him physically, verbally, and mentally. They often times just ignored him all together, not giving him any attention which is what Hans always wanted more than anything. When he got to know Anna during Elsa's coronation, he was being honest when he said how they barely paid any mind to him. It was because of all this pain and suffering that led him to become the devious bastard that tried to claim Arendelle for his own. He also was envious when Anna told him how good of friends she and Elsa were as kids when that wasn't the case for him and his brothers. Hans was presently taking a nap in his dungeon cell after another long day of doing terrible jobs as punishment such as cleaning up shit in the stables. Whenever he was sleeping, he often dreamt about how he almost eliminated his competition for the throne of Arendelle before Anna interfered and led to his arrest. He also often dreamed how things would be if his plan succeeded and he was now king of Arendelle. Having an entire kingdom who bowed before him and gave him respect whether they actually did or not seemed like a dream come true. When he wasn't dreaming about that, he was dreaming about all the abuse and neglect he suffered throughout his childhood here in the Southern Isles which caused him great emotional pain when he was sleeping. Hans was awakened by the large cell door creaking open and immediately saw his oldest brother, King Anders standing menacingly above him. "Sorry if I interrupted your nap. Actually, no I'm not. You're lucky you even get the chance to rest at all.", Anders said with a mocking tone. "What do you want, Anders?", Hans asked in an annoyed tone. "I wanted to come down and tell you that I've made up my mind about how much longer to keep up your punishment. I know we talked about whether or not you have been disciplined enough over the course of the last year.", Anders said. "Yeah, and?". Hans asked with anticipation as he was really hoping he would hear he had paid his dues and would no longer have to call this miserable dungeon home. "I've decided that you need more time paying for your crimes. You're going to be nice and cozy down here for at least the next couple years.", Anders said with a smirk on his face. Hans felt the tears welling up in his eyes and did his best to hold them back. "That's not fair! You can't do that!", Hans screamed in agony. "I can to! I'm the King! It doesn't matter whether you're my brother or not. The kingdom of Arendelle has been a long-time trade partner and friend of the Southern Isles for generations. Mother and father were friends with King Agnarr and Queen Iduna before they were lost at sea. What do you think our parents would say if they were still alive and they knew you tried to take over their friends' kingdom, toyed with their daughter's heart, and tried to kill the other daughter? They would be disgusted with you and curse you forever.", Anders told him rather coldly. "Please. We both know this isn't just about what happened with Arendelle. You and the other guys have always hated me and looking to make my life Hell. And our parents already were disgusted with me even though I never did anything bad up until last Summer. I know you're experiencing joy in seeing me rot down here.", Hans screamed in emotional pain. "That maybe so. But you need still need to be punished for what you did. I still hate you no matter what and always will, but your crimes will not be forgiven so easily.", Anders said. "And I'm assuming you forget the other part about what happened last Summer was that the Queen of Arendelle cast a spell over the kingdom that nearly led to it being destroyed.", Hans said. "Everyone is aware of Queen Elsa's magic at this point. And it's well-known by everyone that she stated it was all an accident and she never meant any harm. And she's the one who solved that problem, not you. Some hero you turned out to be. Just a cold-hearted scumbag who tried to kill a couple of innocent girls.", Anders said and then left the cell. Hans sat back down on his bench while in denial over hearing he would spend a couple more years of his life down in this damp dungeon. He wasn't sure who he hated more; his brothers, the Frozen family, or himself. He technically put himself here, but it was the Arendellian monarchs who stopped him from his plan succeeding. And it was his brothers who sentenced him to stay here and tormented him growing up. Hans just sat in silence for hours with countless thoughts running through his mind about whether he should try to keep the next couple years of his life being wasted down here or just suck it up and ride it out. The door opened again and saw that it was the head servant of the castle coming in with his supper. "Dinner, your Highness.", the servant said. "Thanks, Bertram. What are we having tonight?", Hans asked as the tray was placed in front of him. "Steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans, sir.", Bertram said as he took off the lid and displayed the hot food. "This is much nicer than what is normally served to me.", Hans said. "Well, Hans, I did just hear about how your sentence got extended and I thought you could use some good food like this to help ease everything.", Bertram said. Bertram if anything has always been Hans' one true friend in the kingdom. When his parents and brothers were making him feel bad, Bertram was the one person he felt comfortable talking to and confiding in. He was also the one person to really ever show him any respect in his life. "Thank you, Bertram. I really appreciate this.", Hans said with a slight smile. "Don't mention it.", Bertram turned to walk away before Hans said something more. "I'm honestly surprised that you're still treating me with respect despite what I did.", Hans said. "Well, it was a very despicable act I must say. But I know how terrible your childhood was here, so I do understand what led you to do it. Just know that I'm always here if you need anything.", the servant said. "It's just so unfair how they can just extend my sentence like this. I wish there was some way I can get them back for all the pain they have caused me.", Hans said angrily. He getting ready to eat while Bertram stood silent at the door before speaking again. "Maybe there is a way you can get back at them.", Bertram said. These words made Hans set his utensils back down and ask, "What are you talking about?". "I can't pretend I don't know the extent of all the abuse and neglect you dealt with as a child, Hans. I know your parents weren't the best and your brothers were worse and still are. I think I may know a way you can get back at them.", Bertram said. "How?", Hans asked with anticipation growing inside of him. "I know you had your fair share of magical mishaps last Summer in Arendelle and the Southern Isles has never really associated in any kind of magical element or force. But there has been talk of a sprite or a goblin or something that has been living out in the old Johansen cabin. You remember them?", Bertram asked. "Yeah. They were that old couple who lived on the outskirts of the kingdom. They died about five years ago. You're saying there's a goblin who lives there now?", Hans asked. "Yes. I'm not sure what kind of magic he dabbles in, but I've heard that creatures like those deal with all kinds of mischief that you can use to finally get back at King Anders and the others.", Bertram told him. Hans didn't know what to think, but he did desperately want to get back at his brothers and maybe even the ones who landed him in here. "I think I might be interested in finding this sprite.", Hans said. "You can maybe sneak out tomorrow when you're supposed to be cleaning the stables.", Bertram said. "I think I'll do just that. Thanks, Bertram. For everything.", Hans told him. "You're welcome, Hans. Sleep well.", Bertram said and then left the cell. Hans then went back to eating his food while looking forward to finally seeking his revenge on his brothers and maybe even the royals of Arendelle.
