I haven't updated in a while...but I guess I'll just finish posting this fic :)) enjoy! apologies for the wait!
Yamaguchi jolted awake the next morning at the sound of his phone buzzing the next morning. When had he fallen asleep? He slowly sat up, fumbling for his phone in his pocket.
Daichi: Is everything alright?
He stared at the message debating whether he should respond or not. His neck and back hurt from sleeping in the hard hospital chair all night. He was exhausted. He rubbed his eyes, trying to unblur his vision, and looked up, relieved to see that Tsukishima's pulse was still steady.
Yamaguchi: I don't know…I haven't gotten any information from the doctors yet on his initial condition but he's alive. I stayed by his side the whole night- my body is so tired, i'm so stressed.
Daichi: Oh my god I'm so glad he's alive, I'll tell everyone right away. Is it okay for us to visit? Get some rest! Do you need anything?
Yamaguchi: I'm not sure, I can't even think straight right now
Yamaguchi: I'm not even sure if I'm supposed to be here. The nurse was so nice.
Daichi: I can talk to Suga about details, do you need a ride?
Yamaguchi: I drove here, it's alright, thanks though :)
Daichi: Of course! If you need anything just let me or anyone know. Tsukishima is being taken care of by the doctors, but you need to get some rest.
Yamaguchi: yeah, yeah, of course. Haha XD
Yamaguchi smiled, relaxing a little. Daichi acted so much like a dad sometimes. He set his phone down, turning towards Tsukishima. He didn't know what to do. Leave? Stay? Maybe he should ask for help. He didn't really want to leave Tsukishima's side. He knows that the doctors are there to help him but the idea of leaving him felt almost impossible. He got up from the chair and walked to the door, he hesitated before grabbing the cold metal door knob. What would become of him if he left? What if Tsukishima died- He clenched his eyes shut screaming at the thoughts to go away and slowly turned the doorknob. He jumped a little, finding a couple doctors to be standing on the other side.
"What are you doing here?" The taller doctor asked. She was older, maybe in her fifties, and carried a clipboard full of notes. Her accomplice was shorter but no less intimidating. He seemed to be younger, maybe around Coach Ukai's age.
"I- oh, I'm sorry." He replied hastily. "My friend is in there, he's my best friend. I just- I heard what happened to him and I came right to the hospital… only to fall asleep in that chair and-"
"It's okay, don't worry. Nurse Miki let you in right? She's so nice," The taller doctor chuckled. Yamaguchi's muscles relaxed. He left a little while later, with much second thoughts, and went to find his car. Floods of texts and calls spammed his phone from worried friends and peers. He didn't have the energy to respond to any of them at the moment and just silenced his phone. The drive home went quicker than the panicked drive the night before, but he felt that his worried thoughts and anxious body language distracted him while driving. He drove slowly and tried to focus on his surroundings so that what happened to Tsukishima didn't happen to him. He pulled into his driveway, walking up to the porch. He turned the doorknob to his house, opening it slowly.
"Tadashi!" his mom ran up to him, embracing him in a hug. "Tadashi, Tadashi! Where were you? I woke up and you were gone. I was so worried, oh my god Tadashi, are you okay? Where were you?!"
"I'm okay, mom, I'm okay," he said, hugging his mom tightly. "I was at the hospital." his voice shook.
"The hospital?!" she held his face, as if to check him for injuries.
"N-not for me," he took a deep breath, "for Tsukishima."
"Kei? What's wrong with him, is he okay?" his mom asked, she looked at him worriedly, she knew how close the two boys were.
"H-he got into a car crash," his hands shook but he tried to hide it. "I'm sorry, I'm so tired. I'm going to go to my room now."
He got up and walked into the house, trying to keep his composure.
"Tadashi…"
