Chapter 9

When we're relaxing at the beach provided by FS Resort, we notice that the things that we rented are carried off by something lurking in the sand. We try to find out what it is, so we lure it with food, but Team Rocket ruins our big plan and they fall into our trap instead. The mysterious creature sends out flying and we take the opportunity to find out what it is, and in the end, it is actually a Corphish. I decide to capture this Corphish and after it succeeds, I can see how strong it is since when I ask to shake hands, he just shakes too hard and sends me flying into the ocean...

Corphish: The Ruffian Pokemon: Water Type. Corphish were originally foreign Pokémon that were imported as pets. They eventually turned up in the wild. This Pokémon is very hardy and has greatly increased its population.

Then we also decided to do some surfing on the water because Mark's insistence, and when we are surfing, we also befriend some Wailmers. Both Mark and I capture them in the end.

Wailmer: The Ball Whale Pokemon: Water Type. Wailmer can store water inside its body to transform itself into a ball for bouncing on the ground. By filling itself up with more water, this Pokémon can elevate the height of its bounces.

When we are walking around the river, we arrive at a waterfall. Max says, "I don't think even a Magikarp can climb that waterfall..."

"But that is just the place where we can find some unknown Pokemon." Alice says.

"Hold on, guys! I think I have an idea." I say as we use Psychic to levitate us to the top of the waterfall. Minami says, "Good thinking, brother."

"So this is what the top of the waterfall looks like..." Mark says.

"The water moves gently here, and it seems to get a little foggy and muddy here." Alice says as we continue moving. And much to our surprise, we find a lot of baby Mudkip in front of us.

"After what happened back at Route 101, I'm not so thrilled..." May says.

"But we only need it to complete the Hoenn Starters in our team." Alice says. "Considering that they are rare to find and their habitats are unknown."

But just then, a bigger Mudkip appears out of the bushes and tries to keep May away from capturing the Mudkip. "I guess I'm not so thrilled..."

Just then, one of the baby Mudkip falls into the lake and is washed away by the current. Max says, "That leads out of the main river!"

"Lotad! I choose you!" I throw my Pokeball and send out the Lotad, and it jumps into the river to save the Mudkip. But Lotad is also washed away by the current and I yell, "Lotad!"

It is then the bigger Mudkip swims toward them and saves the two Pokemon. "Amazing..."

After they are back at the shore, I say, "That was a close one, thanks."

But the bigger Mudkip leaps back with an angry look. "It's okay, no need to be afraid of us. I know you're only trying to protect the babies when you used Water Gun in May, right?"

Just when the others arrive, the Mudkip runs away sacred. Alice asks, "Ash! Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." I turn to Lotad. "You're great, Lotad."

Then Mark picks the little Mudkip and asks, "How are you, little fella?"

But it is then a man with a Mudkip's fin-like hairstyle approaches us, he says, "If you actually think you're going to steal these Mudkip that I worked so hard to raise, think twice!"

Minami says, "Wait, we never do that!"

"We're just trying to help out this baby Mudkip, that's all!" Max says.

Then the man apologized to us and we introduced ourselves, he called him Swampy or Old Man Swamp. He demands how we trespass through the entrance, and after we explain that we climb up the waterfall, he is shocked.

He brings us to his home, and he reveals some Mudkip Eggs that he is raising to be Starter Pokemon for trainers starting their journeys in the Hoenn Region. And we also get to watch how the Mudkip babies hatch. Then we decided to ask about the bigger Mudkip.

"I think maybe it is too old and boisterous for a new trainer." The Old Man Swamp says to us, and we frown a little.

Before we can talk more, we notice a commotion and Swampy has to leave. Before we leave, we find the same old Mudkip approaching me. I ask if he wants to help us, but he runs in a different direction, so I chase after him.

"Mudkip, there you are, I like to be your friend, if you want me." I say, but he is still not trying to trust me. I try to share some food until we notice a large water flow in front of us.

"What's that?" I ask, and Mudkip tells me that the other babies are in trouble. I say, "Steelix! I choose you!"

I send out the Pokemon and I say, "Quick! Use your body to stop the water!"

Steelix nods as it does so, I also have Lotad to save the baby Mudkip. Pikachu and I also jump into the river to save the other Mudkip. Then we notice two more stranding on the rock, and the bigger Mudkip decides to save them.

"Good job, Mudkip." I say as I send back Steelix. Then we have to find shelter on higher ground, but we notice we miss one and the Mudkip is trying to save it.

"Hang in there!" I yell as we notice the Mudkip is heading to the waterfall.

"Mudkip! No!" Then the Mudkip is hanging on the rock at the waterfall. It is then the others arrive. Max says, "I don't think the Mudkip can hang much longer!"

Mark turns to me and says, "Brother."

"I know." Then we use our Psychic to bring Mudkip back on shore. The Mudkip are surprised, but they are happy to be safe. But our happiness is shortened because Team Rocket arrives with their mecha, and they get a lot of Mudkip in their cages.

"Stop it! Team Rocket!" Alice says.

"This is just not right..." I say, but then I notice the muddy floor and I realize. "Oh yeah... I got it! Lotad, Mudkip! Use your Water Gun attack to soak the ground with water!"

Minami asks, "Brother, what will that do?"

"The soil is so soft, so we can make it softer so that the machine will be stuck." I say.

Then both Pokemon use Water Gun, and now the machine is sinking. "Good job! Just keep up those attacks!"

Then Pikachu and the other Mudkip save the other babies, then Pikachu uses Thunderbolt to send them flying once more. Now all the Mudkips are safe, and in the end, the two Mudkips decide to join Mark and me, so we capture them.

Mudkip: The Mud Fish Pokemon: Water Type. The fin on Mudkip's head acts as highly sensitive radar. Using this fin to sense movements of water and air, this Pokémon can determine what is taking place around it without using its eyes.

As we continue our journey, we find Professor Birch. "Professor Birch?" We ask as we greet the man, and then he also reveals that he's happy to see us.

"So how come you're here on Dewford Island?" Mark asks.

"I just want to see the wonderful Pokemon here for myself." Then he shows us the Wingull nests, and we are in awe of it.

"So tell me, guys, what are you all doing here? I would've thought that you all would already be at least somewhere near Slateport City by this time." Birch says.

"But you see, the Gym Leader is not in his gym, so we decided to train here. And May decides to focus on contests." Alice says.

Then we decided to hang out with the Professor, and when we noticed a cave, we found a door in front of us. Max tries to knock on the door and finds the door unlocked. It turns out to be a Secret Base, and we meet the owner and he has Nincada chase us out of the cave.

Then after we go to the next cave, we find the same trainer sitting on the rock and he seems depressed. "Sorry, we let ourselves into your room."

We try to introduce ourselves, and the trainer reveals his name Keanu. When we ask where his Nincada is, we learn that it is stolen. He then reveals he has been losing all the battles so he builds the secret base just so he can train. Then I decided to help with his training, but the first thing to do was to get back Nincada.

But just when we continue moving, we notice the base being destroyed, and there are some people in the red outfits inside the giant hole. Professor Birch says, "It's Team Magma."

"But what is it doing here?" Minami says.

"If we want to go through, it seems we need to beat them." I say as we battle the grunts, and they use Zubats and Numel to battle. After we defeat some, we notice a giant building in front of us. And much to our surprise, Team Magma is not the only one there, Team Aqua is also there. Team Magma is led by a chubby man while Team Aqua is led by a black-haired girl.

"Are they Tabitha and Shelly?" Minami gasps. "They used to be Devon Corps' scientists!"

"Are they the ones who stole your Nincada?" Alice asks.

"No, there are two of them and they also have a talking Meowth." Great... so it is Team Rocket who stole the Nincada.

Just then, we see them starting to have a battle, but then, they suddenly retreat, much to our surprise.

"Why do they retreat? What's going on?" Mark asks.

"It is simple, the thing that we want is not here. Though I would never have posited that mere children would prove such obstacles."

When we turn around, we see a red-haired man with glasses approaching us. He has the Team Magma symbol on his shirt, but he seems to be on another level compared to the fat guy that we saw.

The man looks at me and says, "Hmm. Though you are but a child, your eyes tell me of your fierce determination. My heart is pounding in my chest... Yes, I think I can see why my lowly Grunts could not stand one minute against you. I am called Maxie. I stand as the head of Team Magma, a noble organization whose goal is to propel humanity to even greater heights of progress and evolution."

This guy is the boss of Team Magma? No wonder I feel something with this man. He continues, "Indeed. And you are one of the young people who may shape our society's future. Considering that fact, I believe I shall educate you in the ways of the world. The land... It is the stage upon which humanity stands. The land exists so we humans might continue onward and upward, stepping into the future... For us to continue growing and evolving, humans require a grand stage upon which to stand. A land upon which we can stride forward... A land we can explore...develop...exploit... This is the basis for the growth of all human endeavors. That is why we, Team Magma, must increase the landmass of the world! Believe that this will lead to a future of eternal happiness for humanity... And consequently for all life!"

"Wh-what are you talking about..." I mutter out.

"Humph. I suppose the concept may still be too difficult for a child to comprehend. Is that the case? At least I have tried to open your mind. I will take my leave for now. I suggest you take care that you never again stand against Team Magma. I will not be so lenient next time. I implore you to remember that."

Then he just walks away, and what snaps us out of it is the voices of Team Rocket, and we find the Nincada being held. We battled them and after getting Nincada back, we had Kenau deliver the final blow to send them flying. Then we bid farewell to Kenau as we leave the cave.

"So that was the leader of Team Magma..." Alice says.

"Yeah, but no matter what the reason is, we're not going to let both Team Magma and Team Aqua get what they want." I say.
