Chapter 1 – The shock
Part 1 - Hecate and Dimity
Hecate Hardbroom opened her eyes she had slept well that night however she jumped out of her skin with a panicked expression on her face, her eyes wide and darting around. Her room last time she noticed was black with a dark blue bedspread and the furniture was mahogany. The room she was currently in was the same shape as hers, all the furniture was in the same places however the walls were lilac, and her bedding was a bright Yellow. She got out of the bed and opened the oak wardrobe and was mortified to find her usual gorgeous black and blue dress with its standing collar and floor length was currently blue and lilac, the standing collar was gone, and the dress was knee length. The intricate detail on the dress was the same. Hecate was freaking out she decided to look around the room and she went to the oak desk and found some pictures of her and Miss Gullet. She was very confused. She stayed in her room not sure how to take it in. I am literally in a nightmare, Yellow and lilac are dreadful colours.
Dimity Drill opened her eyes a few hours after Hecate had and she was also startled as she woke up her usual walls that were pale blue are now black and brown. All her flying trophies are still there luckily. Why does my room look and feel so strange. She walked up to her desk and noticed there were many papers on her desk which at a closer look was her student's homework though her marking was very harsh and definitely in her handwriting. What is going on?
Both women went to breakfast and Hecate had managed to alter the dress so that it at least touched the floor and she had also turned the ghastly heels she had found into flats, wishing she had her gothic boots with her. They both saw each other and gave each other strange looks they were wordlessly communicating through their facial expressions. They were about to sit next to each other to find out what was going on.
"Joy, I am sat here why are about to sit with Dimity?
Hecate turned around at the name Joy, it was a name she never used she had always hated it and found that Miss Gullet had spoken to her. Hecate looked very confused as she and Gullet had never been friends, never.
Dimity had heard Gullet and thought the same thing as Hecate and noticed Hecate's confusion, she too had never known the women to get along very well. What in the name of bats is going on, does she realise she is talking to Hecate?
Hecate and Dimity looked at each other with the most confused expressions.
"Why are you hesitating to sit with me, is something going on between you two?" Miss Gullet asked in a confrontational voice, which was riddled in jealousy.
"I am going for a walk" Hecate stated as she headed out the hall, unfortunately the nightmare situation was about to get worse.
"Miss Hardbroom, thank you for the help yesterday" one of the students stated.
A ginger haired girl walked up to her "Do you need any help prepping the lab this morning?" she asked.
"What is going on? I am more than capable of prepping the lab myself, thank you very much" Hecate responded stiffly. The entire faculty was confused, Joy never acted in this manner she was liked by all the students, the only staff member that this did not confuse was Dimity as this was her best friend's normal approach to things.
"I am not turning up to flying today, she can throw me in as many detentions as she likes" a student stated a tad too loudly, near Hecate. Dimity had heard and turned to look at the student's conversation.
"You'll end up in serious bother" the girl's friend replied.
"What is she gonna do, she hates me anyway? She was so harsh the other day even my broom said no". The girl stated with anger.
"Who are you talking about" Hecate asked.
"Miss drill, obviously, couldn't possibly be anyone else could it".
"Miss Drill?"
"Yep".
"That Miss Drill?" Hecate said flabbergasted as she pointed at Dimity.
"There is only one Miss Drill".
"OK, OK, I am very confused, let's have some feedback, why is some of you acting like I am approachable" Hecate shouted across the hall. Very quickly losing patience.
"You are usually nice to everyone except Miss Drill".
"You two normally hate each other".
"You have time for everyone".
"What about Miss Drill?" Hecate asked, she almost didn't want to ask as Dimity was the kindest person she knew and didn't want to upset her.
"Where do we start".
"She hates everyone".
"Nothing is ever good enough".
"Screams at us and calls us everything under the sun".
"Are you all sure you're talking about us two" Hecate stated as gestured to both of them. All the students including the staff had nodded, they were confused as to why Joy was acting out of the ordinary.
"What have we mysteriously had, a personality swap?" Hecate asked Dimity.
"I have no idea; it sounds like it and since when have we hated each other?" Dimity queried.

Part 2 - Joy and Dimity
Joy woke up and was surprised that her room was now black with a dark blue bed spread, it looked like her room though the oak furniture was now mahogany. Not a bad choice in wood. She looked around and saw the wardrobe, she opened it hoping to find her lilac and blue dress that stopped at her knees. She was mortified to find the dress in front of her was black and blue the detail was the same however to her horror there was a standing collar, and it was floor length. I am not wearing that, its ghastly and very gothic. She looked around the room and to her horror there was no flats or heels there were however a pair of gothic boots. What are those, what are we doing today playing dress up? She looked at the other clothes available and she didn't like any of them the nicest one was the gothic one. She ended up putting it on and was very surprised that the fit was very flattering, and the boots surprisingly were rather comfortable. Joy being Joy was always one to just go with the flow and have a good laugh regardless as to whether she looked ridiculous as long as it was appropriate.
On the other side of the school Dimity had also arisen she was rather irritated. What the hell is this, powder blue, I am not having this no one dares to mess with my stuff. Joy is going to get my wrath. She noticed the trophies were still there. However, she got the feeling the room wasn't hers, yet it was definitely her room. The room was neat and tidy though there seemed to be a relaxed atmosphere to it.
Both of them went to breakfast and Joy walked in and found to her amazement no-one was looking at her in a weird way regarding her clothing, but she got the feeling something was wrong, she had put her hair into a long plait and some of the students were muttering about it. It's a hair style what is with the muttering? She tried to smile it off, yet the students looked very apprehensive.
Dimity walked in, she was in a fowl mood and Joy had noticed.
"Don't stare at it, eat it" Dimity scolded one student "It isn't going to kill you".
Joy rolled her eyes it was just typical of Dimity to be harsh from the second she got up.
The other staff at the long table further up the hall had noticed both as they walked in and they were very shocked. This wasn't the Hecate and Dimity they knew; it was almost two very different people.
"Everything alright Hecate?" Ada Cackle the headmistress asked kindly.
"Hecate? Why are you calling me by my middle name, is this a joke? that's a good one for you. I do have a question though, actually I have a few" Joy replied.
"Are you sure you're, OK?" Algernon asked, he was the only male member of staff. "You don't seem yourself at all".
"YOU ARE TAKING THE PISS, I HAVE HAD IT THIS TIME, YOU AND YOUR PRANKS" Dimity shouted across the hall.
"I have no idea what you're talking about" Joy stated dumbfounded for she really didn't.
"My walls and clothes have changed" Dimity stated threw gritted teeth.
"Glad it's not just mine then, I thought it was a prank that Ada had set" Joy replied with confusion.
"I don't understand, your both in the same clothes that you wear regularly. What exactly has changed, although it seems you both have had a personality swop" Miss Bat asked.
"Always blaming me, ever thought that just maybe you have hated the students enough that they have started to mess with you. Did that ever occur to you" Joy stated exasperated to Dimity as Dimity had stood staring at her with hatred. "Get a grip will you".
"This is more than a personality swop, those two were best friends" Miss gullet stated.
"We have never been friends in the slightest" Dimity stated rather shocked.
The staff where very confused however Miss Bat just had a thought and was going to explain it to Ada later on encase, she was wrong. The students were also looking around shocked.
"What exactly has changed we will start with Hecate".
"Why are you using my middle name? My first name is Joy, please do use it. The walls to my room last night were lilac and my bedspread was bright yellow, I am not gothic either, not that there is anything wrong with it, I'm just not gothic".
"Your bedroom is the exact same as it's always been black walls and a dark blue bedspread. I have been calling you by the name you insist you were to be called since you were a student here, last I knew you were gothic, and you hated bright colours". Ada stated not entirely sure why her staff was being weird.
"Well, I want to know why my walls are powder blue, why does my clothes all entail blue, I like black and brown?
"Ladies, you decorated your own rooms, and you are wearing what you normally wear, I don't understand what the problem is" Ada's patience was being tested.
Joy sat down next to Miss Gullet and struck up a conversation which even Miss Gullet was confused about, they were never friends, they hardly ever spoke.
Dimity however stormed out of the hall. She refused to be around Joy as she was too upbeat and she found her to be rather annoying as the woman was prone to pranking others and being too nice to everyone, especially when they didn't deserve it. She decided to get the brooms out ready for her first class.
Once breakfast had finished Joy was walking through the hall to go to the potion's lab.
"Would anyone like to give me a hand with prep, it would be much appreciated" she asked the students in a friendly tone which is not one that anyone was used to.
"I got nothing, in term of ideas" Miss Gullet stated after watching Joy leave.
"I have a theory, though it is a wild one" Miss Bat stated.
"I will take anything at this point" Ada stated.
"Well, they are both acting extremely strange, I'm thinking they are from an alternate universe".
"That's a bit farfetched" Ada responded bluntly.
"Is it? Hecate now is stating she wants to be called Joy a name she absolutely despises, she is also stating she is not gothic which we know Hecate is, as well as preferring brighter colours which would give Hecate a complex. Hecate's hair is always in a bun that is placed with perfection using pins, it's never in a plait, not to mention she seems much kinder and never speaks to Gullet unless she has to. This one was practically a little to friendly with Gullet. Then there is Dimity that woman may look like dimity, however she is not our dimity, both those women hate each other, I have never seen dimity have a go at a student or shout at a member of staff at all never mind with venom. The look on Dimity's face was harsh and I don't fancy the student's chances with her. The chances of two members of staff of different personalities waking up and being very different to normal and not even remotely like each other either is extortionately slim". Miss bat explained in more detail.
"Do you mean like a body swop?" Miss Gullet asked.
"No, a body swop would end with Hecate having to pretend to be Dimity and vice versa, they wouldn't hate each other either, these two are very different versions of themselves, it's strange but I am betting alternate universes". Miss Bat turned to Miss Gullet "She was rather friendly to you wasn't she".
"Almost flirting, not something I thought the woman could do". Miss Gullet responded, "It also didn't seem forced".
"What if to her you're both in a relationship" Miss Bat thought.
"That makes sense as she's never like this and she kept trying to put her hand on mine as well, slightly creeped me out, I am not going to lie".
Ada and Algernon had listened to what Miss Bat and Miss Gullet were saying and it did make sense.
"Say they are, how do we get both sets back where they should be?". Algernon queried.
No-one knew, they were starting to miss their Hecate and Dimity.
"Put it this way if both of them are here then our two will hopefully be in their realm, they will think of something or find a way, its Hecate and Dimity, they are going to struggle if not". Ada stated.
"Being best friends, they will stick together at least" Miss Bat stated then looked at Miss Gullet "Unless you get in the way somehow".
"Just think how scared the students will be in both realms of them" Algernon laughed "That I would love to see".
"Let's find out" Ada said playfully, I too would like to see how today goes for both of them. Anyone for a movie night tonight? The rest of the faculty nodded.
