AN: Hello, everyone, it's StarlitDuck. This is a very special story right here for two very important reasons. One, it is based on a request from another Fanfiction user, JBlaser. I really appreciate them sharing their ideas with me, so thank you JBlaser :)
Secondly...this is my first ever crossover! While this definitely won't be the last crossover I've ever written, I am happy that I am getting the opportunity to write this one.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this story, as I am really excited about it.
Chapter 1 Cut Off
The Koopalings sat at the long table in the dining hall. Sunlight filtered in through the tall windows, brightening up the room. Larry was sitting at the head of the table, as he so often did when Bowser was absent. His palms were situated on the surface so that his hands laid flat. He grinned as his brothers; Iggy, Roy, Lemmy, Ludwig, and Morton, listened to him tell tall tales.
"And so, there she stood. Her blonde hair was flowing in the wind, her purple eyes stared right at me. My heart stopped. I could taste the moment; literally, it tasted so good! And then...she leaned forward and gave me a kiss. She said I was the most handsome koopa she had ever seen." Larry smirked and crossed his arms, his sky blue mohawk making him look taller than he actually was as he stood up. "True story."
Ludwig snickered as he pushed a lock of his bushy blue hair out of his eyes. "In an alternate reality, maybe," he muttered in a way that wasn't silent in the least.
Roy laughed as Larry's face fell. "Wouldn't that be awesome! If you could go to an alternate reality and meet a bunch of pretty girls? You could have a multidimensional pillow fight!"
Iggy adjusted his glasses and grinned at his bald, burly brother. "Actually, that could very well be possible! We already know that alternate dimensions exist, as we have already had an encounter with one! Perhaps, if we could get Mario and Luigi to hand over the interdimensional ray gun that they obtained, we could go dimension hopping!"
Lemmy's eyes grew wide. "That would be so fun!" He gasped. "Wait! How cool would it be if we could have a Mario Kart race on a track that flies through the dimensions!"
Larry's jaw dropped. "That. Would. Be. Awesome! We need to make that happen, like right now!"
As the boys continued on with their conversation, Wendy stayed silent. She was sitting at a chair directly in front of the window, so the rays zoomed down onto her bald, golden head and rosy pink shell. She barely paid any attention to her brothers; not because she didn't care for them, but because her eyes were glued to her phone. She typed into the text box just as she took a bite of french toast drenched in golden syrup. She hit the send button and waited for a response. Her smile captured the attention of her younger brother Morton, who was sitting right next to her.
"What are you so happy about?" asked the dark skinned Koopaling.
Wendy shrugged. "Just having a good day, that's all." Her phone chimed, causing her to reach out and pick it up. She gasped out loud and typed into the text box again.
Morton snickered. "Wow. You attach a lot of emotion to a rectangular box."
Wendy squinted as she continued with typing. Once she hit the send button again, she put the phone down, scrunched up her nose, and turned toward Morton. "It's not the phone dummy; it's my friend."
"Even still, you've spent a lot of time on that thing." He picked it up and turned it on.
"Hey!" Wendy exclaimed. Her shout had no effect on him, as he continued to scroll through the messages she had sent to her friend. He snickered once he saw one of them.
"'I bet that you are the most beautiful girl in the world'... wow, flirt much, do they?"
Wendy's eyebrows scrunched up. "Morty, they're a girl!"
Morton's eyes grew wide as he stared at Wendy. "Really?" He stood up on his chair and held the phone high above his head. "Guys, Wendy is getting flirty texts from a girl!"
The Koopalings fell silent immediately. Larry jumped up out of his chair and grinned. "Really?"
"Really," Morton responded.
"Oh, that's even better than an interdimensional Mario Kart race!" Roy exclaimed. He laughed. "I can already imagine the pillow fights Wendy will have with her new girlfriend!"
Wendy turned crimson. "No, it's not like that!"
"Hey, don't worry about it so much, Wendy. We'll love you no matter who you're going out with!" Iggy said.
Ludwig stuffed some french toast into his mouth. "I bet her girlfriend would love her even more." He pointed his fork at Wendy. "If you two get married, you're gonna have to have her wear the tux. We wouldn't want you to miss out on wearing a dress."
Wendy's face flushed. "Stop," she squealed. She snatched the phone away from Morton. "Cindy and I are just friends."
"Oh," Larry said as his face fell. "Well, that's not nearly as exciting."
"I know, right? I was really looking forward to filming some pillow fights," Roy said as he put on a pouty face.
Iggy snuck him a glance. "What is with you and pillow fights this morning?"
Roy shrugged. "I dunno. Is it a crime to like them?"
Wendy sharply exhaled and glanced down at her phone just as it chimed. "Cindy is just an online friend; nothing more, nothing less."
Morton glanced over her shoulder. His brow furrowed as he looked at what Cindy and Wendy were typing to each other. "I don't know, Wen, it seems that Cindy is into you."
Wendy looked over at Morton with a wrinkled forehead. "She is not!"
Ludwig telekinetically snatched the phone out of Wendy's hands and brought it over. He scrolled through the messages, his brow furrowing as he did so.
"Uh, Wendy, friends don't normally end off most of their messages with 'I love you.'"
Wendy sharply exhaled. "Sure they do! We tell each other we love each other all the time!"
"Well, yeah, but we're siblings," said Larry. "It means something completely different when a total stranger on the Internet says it to you."
Ludwig telekinetically allowed the phone to float over to Wendy. "Why don't you double check Cindy's intentions by telling her how you feel?"
"Fine," Wendy said. She plucked the phone out of the air and typed into the textbox.
Hey, Cindy, you know that we are just friends, right?
She got a response from Cindy in less than a minute.
Yeah. Just friends ;)
Wendy felt a lump accumulate in her throat. That emoticon did not look right next to that message. So, she typed out another one.
No, I mean we really are just friends. I have no intention of going on a date with you.
Five minutes passed. Wendy waited, the silence of the room beating down on her like the rays of the sun outside the window. Just as the sun was covered up by a cloud, Wendy got her response.
Oh. Wendy would have left it at that if it weren't for the fact that Cindy sent her another message within less than a second. I don't want to talk to you anymore.
Wendy's heart leapt into her throat. She frantically typed into the textbox.
Why not?
Because. You made me believe you were into me when you aren't. You lied to me and manipulated me. I don't want to talk with someone who does that.
Wendy stared down at the message, her eyes wide. The other Koopalings stared at her, silent as a morgue. Finally, Morton spoke up.
"Wendy?"
Wendy grasped her phone as her heart pounded against her chest. She couldn't move, couldn't speak, couldn't breathe. For a solid minute, it seemed that time had stopped for her.
And then came the tears.
"Wendy, what happened?" asked Roy.
Wendy shook her head. She stared down at the message. It seemed so unreal. This couldn't be happening. She wanted to curl up into a little ball and just wither away.
"Excuse me," she said, tasting the tears on her lips. With that, she made her way out of the room, crying all the while.
