"Oh, she is so precious," said a brown haired female.
It was June 30th, and the hospital's reception's area had a very rushed female visitor. In her arms, she was carrying a roughly one-year-old boy in her arms. Said baby boy had tuffs of black hair and was looking around the reception area with his wide blue eyes while the female, his mother, was asking where another female patient of theirs was. The female and the baby boy were directed towards another floor by a nurse. Thanking said nurse, the female, armed with her son, quickly rushed towards the floor in a very speedy way before making it into one of the hospital rooms. There, the mother and son found a dark violet haired female sitting in a hospital bed, her arms fully wrapped around a baby and its blanket. The brown haired female quietly went over to the hospital bed to look at the newborn before speaking up about the newborn. "Nodoka-chan," exclaimed the female patient, "I'm surprise that you came, and is that little Ranma-kun in your arms?"
"Un," nodded the now known Nodoka, "I wouldn't let this opportunity to introduce Ranma-chan to his new playmate. Maybe his new fiancée?"
"Now, Nodoka," said the patient, "You think that Genma would let you assign Ranma a fiancée of all things?"
"He's going to take Ranma-chan away from me so that he could train our son to be the best martial artist out there, Ikuko-chan," said a sad Nodoka, "I am not going to let him decide Ranma's future wife, too! I want him to marry for love, but if it will protect him from future decisions my husband makes, my precious son will have a wife in your precious daughter instead of being with someone else who won't love him, personality and all."
The now known Ikuko looked at her childhood friend in surprise. She knew that Nodoka was having some troubles with her husband, Genma, but for Genma to take Ranma away from his mother? She felt that Genma took Nodoka's love and support for granted. She even was at her wedding and warned her about how Genma would make her unhappy one day. However, her friend never heeded that warning, and now Nodoka is pushing for a marriage contract between Ranma and her newborn daughter just so that Ranma may have a happy marriage than she has. Ikuko looked at the doorway to see that her husband, Kenji, was staring wide eyed at Nodoka as well. She could tell that he just came back from grabbing coffee to stay awake after a gruesome labor. "Are you sure you want to decide Ranma's wife like this, Nodoka-san," questioned Kenji as he stepped into the doorway.
"Kenji-san," said Nodoka.
"I am not really objecting, yet how do you know if Ranma and our daughter will get along with one another," questioned Kenji, "You said so yourself that Genma would be taking Ranma away soon."
"I'll… I'll convince Genma to wait a few years so that Ranma and your daughter will get to know one another," said Nodoka, "Onegai (Please). I feel as though I need to do this, for Ranma's future peace of mind."
"Nodoka-chan," said Ikuko with tears in her eyes.
She could tell Nodoka felt desperate and looked at her husband. Of course, they would want their precious daughter to know love, but if their friend really wants to consider this with them… Kenji sighed as he thought long and hard about Nodoka's proposal. When he learned that he had a daughter, Kenji was over the moon, but also feeling the over protectiveness that no boys would be good for his precious first born. Kenji also felt that his daughter would also have an unhappy future ahead of her, but was this the only choice they had to assure themselves as parents that their children married for love? A marriage proposal? Finally thinking on it, Kenji sighed outwardly. "Let's let the two children get to know one another," said Kenji, "If they like each other and Genma waits to take Ranma training when he is four years old, then I will agree to this proposal."
"Ken-kun," questioned Ikuko.
"I feel like the two will need each other IF they can get along, that is," said Kenji.
"If you are sure, koishī (dear)," said Ikuko.
"A-Arigatō," said Nodoka who was holding back tears.
Ranma, on his part, squirmed in his mother's arms as his curious blue eyes tried to look at what Ikuko was holding. He could see that whatever it was, it was squirming within the blanket just as much. With his little arms and hands, he tried to reach over to where the blanket was so that he can see what or who was in the blanket. Nodoka, Kenji, and Ikuko were surprised by what Ranma was doing before laughing softly. Ikuko could also feel her daughter squirming in her arms. When Nodoka brought Ranma closer to Ikuko, Ikuko lifted a part of the pink blanket away from the newborn's face. Blue eyes clashed with blue at that moment. "Ranma, son," said Nodoka as she noticed a tuff of golden blonde hair on the daughter's head, "Meet your new playmate and maybe future wife…"
"Usagi," said Kenji softly.
"Tsukino Usagi," said Ikuko with a smile.
- Sixteen Years Later –
"Akane," said Nodoka hesitatingly, "You're Ranma's fiancée, ne?"
"A-Ah," nodded a navy-blue haired female, Tendō Akane.
After sixteen years, Nodoka found where Genma had taken Ranma. She knew that the so-called seppuku (disembowelment) agreement was probably why Genma had not let Ranma come back into her life, but she had thought Genma had more sense than that. Ranma was only three years old and didn't know any better when Genma inked Ranma's little hands to place on the contract shared by the two. She would not subjugate Ranma to that ridiculous agreement, but she also was hoping that Ranma came back to her to reconnect with his true fiancée… his best friend… Tsukino Usagi. She knew that when they were younger, Ranma confided in Nodoka about his little crush. She wanted that crush to cultivate once more, thus finding Ranma and Genma. She was glad her search was over, but frowned when the Tendō household told her that this navy-blue haired female… this Akane… was Ranma's fiancée. She looked around the table to see Akane's bored dark brown haired sister, Nabiki, Akane's gentle dark brown haired sister, Kasumi, Akane's so-called cousin, Ranko, Akane's father, Sōun, and Ranko's so-called panda pet, who was really the cursed Saotome Genma, before turning her eyes back to Akane. "You do know the agreement between you and Ranma is not legal," said Nodoka nervously.
"Eh," questioned Nabiki, "What do you mean?"
"Genma and I have a contract with one another," said Nodoka.
"You are talking about the seppuku, ne," questioned Sōun with a nervous laugh.
"Īe," said Nodoka who looked down, "Genma-kun also signed a contract between him and me, stating that Ranma will never have any engagements due to him already promised to another of my choosing."
"NANI (WHAT)," shouted everyone incredulously.
"Hai," said Nodoka as she pulled two papers out, "Long before Genma-kun took my darling Ranma away, Ranma was already engaged to be married to my childhood friend's daughter. They were the best of friends before Ranma was taken for his training. She even gave me her latest letter to Ranma to read as well."
"Usa-chan," murmured Ranko.
"Saotome-san," said Sōun with a nervous smile, "Genma already promised our two schools would be united through this engagement between Akane-chan and Ranma-kun."
"Do you have any paperwork that shows that this agreement was before I engaged to Ranma," questioned Nodoka before lying through her teeth, "Because I have paperwork AND copies of the engagement I made between Ranma and my friend's daughter when they met at the hospital when said daughter was just born."
"Hontō (Really)," questioned Sōun.
"Hai," said Nodoka who held up a folder paper in front of the group before putting it away.
"So, if you find Ranma," questioned Nabiki, "Would you be bringing him back to this fiancée?"
"Of course," said Nodoka, "Besides, I know for a fact that his fiancée has been waiting for his return like a good girl she is."
Ranko, who was actually Ranma in girl-curse form due to his father's so-called training at magical cursed springs in China, winced inwardly. She remembered her dear best friend, Tsukino Usagi. How could she not when she was traveling with her father as a boy, she would receive letters from said best friend. Genma couldn't even throw the letters away because of his fear of Nodoka and Ikuko's temperament. Oh, how Ranko/Ranma wanted to strangle this so-called Chiba Mamoru for making her/his dear childhood friend cry. She also remembered two years ago in receiving a letter about how Usagi was also a heroine named Sailor Moon. Looking stuff about her in newspapers and online was harder when you were traveling around China before returning to Japan. She just never knew that Usagi was actually his fiancée, as per his mother's wishes. "What about the seppuku if he doesn't show that he's a manly man," questioned Akane.
"That," questioned Nodoka who pulled out ANOTHER folded paper, "I knew my husband was a little bit of a baka (idiot), demo (but) he didn't read the paper."
"Huh," questioned everyone, including Ranko.
"Just see for yourself," said Nodoka who opened the folded paper fully for them to read.
The Tendō family, Ranko, and the panda all looked at the paper. The panda looked ready to faint as he saw what the paper was: the agreement between him, as Genma, and Nodoka. They all read the paper before they sweat-dropped. The paper was a statement that Genma would bring Ranma back to his mother to be properly prepared for his engagement to his fiancée. Ranko twitched an eye as she read the paper incredulously. After being scared by Nodoka stating what Genma vowed to do if his training was a failure, Ranko was scared in turning back into a proper boy and talk with his mother. Everyone turned their eyes to one another when they finally realized just why Nodoka was tracking down Ranma. "So, no seppuku," questioned Ranko with a twitch.
"Īe," said Nodoka, "I'm the sensible one between Genma and I. If it was really a seppuku agreement, I wouldn't make Ranma go through with it. He was three when Genma made him agree with his handprint. My darling Ranma probably didn't understand what he was agreeing to."
"Then," said Nabiki, "You came all this way to get Ranma to meet his real fiancée?"
"Well, more of the two reuniting with each other," said Nodoka before murmuring, "After everything Usagi-chan went through, she needs it."
Ranko perked up when she heard what Nodoka murmured while the others contemplated what Nodoka said out loud. She knew that Usagi was having a bad time, with new enemies popping up and the arrogance of the so-called reincarnated prince of hers. She felt like she wouldn't stand a chance against the reincarnated prince, yet the letters Usagi sent to her told a different story. She knew that Usagi missed Ranma just as much, but Ranko also knew that he, as Ranma, too sent letters back to Usagi about his supposed fiancées and the chaos he's gotten into at Nerima. She wonders if this latest letter explains the engagement the both are in and what Usagi's thoughts were on it. "Ano (Um)," said Ranko.
"Hm," hummed Nodoka who turned to the red-haired girl.
"I… I lied about my n-name," said Ranko nervously.
"Oh," questioned Nodoka who was ignorant on the stares that she and Ranko were having.
"I-I have a c-curse," said Ranko, "From J-Jusenkyō in C-China."
"The last known place my Ranma was," murmured Nodoka.
"W-While training, I fell into an s-spring," said Ranko, "The guide said that it was a cursed spring. Whoever fell in would get turned i-into w-whatever that spring is c-called. P-Pops fell into drowned panda."
"Pops," questioned Nodoka to herself.
"I-I fell into spring of drowned g-girl," said Ranko.
"D-Demo, you are a girl now," questioned a confused Nodoka.
"I… uh… am in my c-cursed form," said Ranko nervously, "Cold water turns m-me into this. H-Hot water turns me back."
Nodoka was still confused on what was going on as she saw Ranko was being very nervous. She looked around to see the household holding their breaths in anticipation, Kasumi's hand over her mouth. She knew that whatever Ranko was saying was significant to her son, but if it was true, then Genma had a LOT of things to be prepared for, especially the wrath between TWO mothers. Genma, as a panda, gulped in nervousness. He could feel that he was in BIG trouble but couldn't stop Ranko in time as Ranko grabbed the tea that was in front of her and poured it over her head. Magically, Nodoka watched as HER son appeared right before her eyes. Long red haired that was tied into a braid was now black while blue eyes had no eye-shadow on. Nervously clutching HIS red Chinese shirt, Ranko, now Ranma, looked at his mother in trepidation. "R-Ranma," questioned Nodoka.
"H-Hai (Y-Yes), kāsan (mother)," said Ranma.
"Oh, darling," said Nodoka, "Just look at you! All strong and handsome! Usagi won't know what hit her!"
"M-Ma," stuttered Ranma as his face turned flush, "A-Anyways, you don't mind? About the curse, I mean."
"Īe," said Nodoka ,"I'm sure Genma-kun dragged you into all sorts of trouble."
"You have no idea," muttered everyone, besides Genma.
"Also," said Nodoka, "I'm sure you know Usagi's secret. I bet she has a solution as well."
Ranma nodded his head. He had guessed that his mom knew that Usagi was a heroine in her own right. However, he was still worried about his other two so-called fiancées once they learn about Usagi. He knew that with one of them, it was voided now, but the other? How was he going to explain about a certain Amazonian girl who follows different rules than that of Japan? Nodoka could feel his nervousness but just patted the back of his hands. "We'll talk later, yes," questioned Nodoka.
"O-Okay," said Ranma who ignored the Tendō daughters who had were curious about this Usagi girl.
"And as for you," said Nodoka who turned towards the panda who was inching AWAY from his wife, "Just where do you think you are going? GE-N-MA?"
- That Night: Ranma –
Ranma couldn't sleep. His mother was here and knows about his water curse. Of course, he was relieved that Nodoka wasn't holding Genma's vow over his head since he was young and didn't know any better. Better yet, Nodoka tracked down one of his fiancées', Kuonji Ukyō, and explained that their engagement was voided as well. Nodoka even held out Genma's agreement to NEVER engage Ranma to any girls because he already HAS a fiancée, and speaking about that fiancée, Ranma knew that he should open his latest letter from her. Quietly getting the letter and not waking his parents up, Ranma opened the letter and started to read…
Dear Ranma,
How are you? I hope that you are doing well in your training. I know that you feel stagnant, but it's better than fighting the things I fight, ne?
As for me, I… I could have been well. There was a major battle after the Queen Nehelenia incident…
There, the letter went into a long information dump on Ranma while he spotted some tears at the end that paragraph. Ranma felt for Usagi as she explained her pain and how she almost died… again… by a great evil. He was sure that he could have jumped over roof tops to find Usagi and fight alongside her and comfort her, reminding her that she wasn't alone. However, he knew that Usagi would be very worried about him during those fights, him probably turning into a… phage. As he cursed inwardly for not being able to fight alongside Usagi, he finally came upon what she thought about their engagement.
Nodoka-obasan explained about the engagement. Truthfully, I was a little mad at our parents. I mean, you are my best friend in the entire world! There's also the fact that we haven't seen each other since we were four to five years old.
I am also a bit nervous. We haven't seen each other in a long time. I mean, I am sure you grew up handsome, but for me? You know in my previous letters how others perceive me as. I'm also not that great at fighting. No training whatsoever, remember?
Yet, I am also… glad…
Ranma couldn't help but think about the cute, blonde-haired girl that he used to play with. He was sure her eyes were even more crystal blue if they met again after all these years. As for those criticizing his best friend… he hoped that with him, he could help her self-confidence. He, however, cringed when he got to the no training part. He was still mad at that c-cat for getting his best friend into danger, and hopefully, Usagi can also cure him of his cat scare. Though, reading how she was glad that she was going to be engaged to him, of all people, he was nervous. He wasn't good at talking to girls, but he could try to tone down his snark. He really wants this engagement to be better than with Akane's, or with Ukyō's, or even with the Amazonian, Shampoo. "I guess we'll see, huh, Usa," said Ranma quietly, "I hope I can make you happy."
- Days Later: Jūban –
To his annoyance, everyone found out about his newest fiancée. It was due to his rival and somewhat friend, Hibiki Ryōga, who announced it in a flash of martial arts fighting and yelling it out loud where anyone could hear. Now, he had Ukyō, Ryōga, and the Tendō's following his family and he towards the Tsukino household. He was also sure that Shampoo and Mousse were around the neighborhood as well. They weren't that far away to hear loud sounds coming from the park before something or someone hit the wall towards their right. Seeing the person slumped down with cuts along perfect skin, Ranma finally had his first glimpse of his best friend… in her Sailor Moon outfit. "Sailor Moon," exclaimed Nodoka as she tried to help the heroine.
"B-Ba," started the girl.
"No talking," said a gentle Nodoka.
"Y-You shouldn't be here," said the girl, "I-It's d-dangerous right now."
"Who are you," questioned Akane, "And why are you in that perverted outfit?!"
The girl, however, ignored Akane's question as Nodoka helped her stand unsteadily. The girl grimaced as she looked herself over before bowing towards Nodoka in thanks. Feeling that her other fellow comrades needed her, the girl darted back towards the loud and dangerous sounds before Nodoka could stop her. Seeing his fiancée battered but still running into danger, Ranma growled slightly to himself before darting towards the fight. He was NOT going to let his fiancée… his best friend… fight as injured as she is. He, however, didn't feel the judgment looks the others, besides Nodoka, was showing towards Ranma. "That Ranma," sighed Akane loudly, "He's just a hentai (pervert) if he's chasing after a girl in a very short skirt."
"I'm sure Ranma has a good reason for it," said Kasumi.
"Yeah, right," muttered Akane angrily.
"Hey," said Ukyō, "Where did Ryōga go?"
As everyone was contemplating what to do (go to the Tsukino household, wait for Ranma, or find Ryōga). Ranma finally arrived at the battle to see a very ugly looking monster that nine Sailor Senshi were trying to fight against. He also felt his sometimes friend and rival stop right next to him, his eyes wide at what he was looking at. He was also clutching his umbrella when he saw how injured the rest of the girls were. He, however, was surprised when Ranma just ran quickly and grabbed the same injured girl they saw before jumping into a tree, placing the girl on the branch before launching a Mōko Takabisha (Pride of the Fierce Tiger) ki (energy blast). He was also surprised to see a silver-white ki sent towards the monster and destroying it. "Arigatō for your help," said the mysterious girl earnestly.
"Will you be alright," questioned Ranma.
"Un," nodded the girl, "My fellow Senshi and I will be just fine."
"If you say so," said Ranma hesitantly before going back where he came from and literally dragged Ryōga away, "Come on, P-chan. Don't want to get lost, do ya?"
"Stop calling me that," yelled out Ryōga, "And will you explain what just happened?!"
"Welcome to Jūban," said Ranma with fake enthusiasm.
- At The Tsukino Household –
"Hajimemashite (How do you do)," said Usagi who bowed at the group, "Watashi ha Tsukino Usagi desu (I am Tsukino Usagi). Dozo yoroshiku (Nice to meet you)."
Moments after Ranma and Ryōga met back with the group, they were already inside and introducing themselves to Ikuko and Kenji Tsukino. Ranma rubbed the back of his head as he stared at two people who were like family to him before his dad dragged him away. Kenji greeted Ranma happily with Ikuko smiling next to him. It was Usagi who actually took his breath away. Sure, he saw her briefly as her alter ego, but he didn't really get a good look at her. Gone with the baby fat, Usagi's golden blonde hair was tied up into two hearts on each side, blonde hair turning lighter by the day. Her bright crystal blue eyes also had a hint of silver mixed in before her eyes went towards the floor as she bowed. "So, you're the new fiancée," said Nabiki.
"She's so pretty," grumbled Ukyō in jealousy.
"No woman pretty than Shampoo," grumbled Shampoo with her arms crossed.
"Oh my," said Kasumi, "What happened to your legs?"
"Ah," said Usagi nervously, "Ēto (Um)…"
"That's just clumsy Usagi for you," said Usagi's little brother, Shingo, "She's always tripping and falling down for no reason."
Usagi glowered at Shingo for that, but everyone else was surprised to see Ranma glaring at Shingo too. He knew that the wounds were from before… from that Youma monster Usagi always talked about in her letters. He wasn't going to let this little brat call his fiancée names, especially when he already knows that Usagi has low self-esteem. With that thought, Ranma told off Shingo in front of everyone. That made everyone, besides the two mothers who were gushing at Ranma's chivalry and Usagi who was smiling gently at him, to blink in surprise. "That's my son," said a proud Nodoka.
"I can see that we chose right that Ranma is perfect for Usagi," said an approving Ikuko.
"About that," said Sōun, "Ranma has been engaged to my Akane for a while."
"Do you have proof," questioned Kenji.
"That's what Saotome-san asked tōsan as well," muttered Akane.
"I… I do not," said a miserable Sōun as he whined out, "Demo, Genma promised his son would marry so that our dojos would combine into one!"
"Gomen," said Ikuko, "Demo we also know Genma. That's why we had a contract that Genma signed stating that Ranma would never be engaged to ANY other girl besides our daughter."
As the adults discussed this, the rest of the teens realized that Ranma and Usagi disappeared. Akane was glowing in hidden jealousy before huffing out in anger. The other fiancées were also glowering in jealousy, but knew to probably take their anger out on Genma. As for Ryōga and Mousse, the two were imagining that the girl of their dreams would finally be with them since Ranma was metaphorically gone. Ranma and Usagi, however, were upstairs before going onto Usagi's balcony. There, Ranma held Usagi bridal style before hopping up onto the roof. "I miss you… Ma-kun," said Usagi with a smile.
"I… I miss you too, Gi-chan," said Ranma before lying on top of the roof, "I can't believe that we were engaged when were babies."
"I think Nodoka-oba (aunt) said that you wanted to marry me at age three," teased Usagi.
"T-That's," started a blushing Ranma, "Anyways! Are you glad you are engaged to me?"
"If you received my letter," said Usagi, "Then you would know that you are a better person to be engaged to than a guy who is like ten years older than me."
"That Mamoru guy still bothering you," questioned a worried Ranma.
"Not more than usual," said Usagi with a shrug, "He's been a complete useless fighter. I mean, your attack was much better than his by a long shot."
"Well," said Ranma as he scratched his cheek lightly, "Couldn't let my fiancée be hurt and all."
Usagi smiled at Ranma softly as her cheeks became a red hue. Of course, she would also remember her little crush on Ranma as a girl, but looking at Ranma now? Her heart was fluttering as she got a good look at him. He really did turn out handsome from that cute boy Usagi knew long ago. For once, Usagi was going to be a bit daring as she lied down next to Ranma and rapped her arms around his body. Ranma, on his part, stared at Usagi in surprise before wrapping an arm around her waist, holding her securely so she wouldn't fall off the roof. "I'm glad you are here, Ranma," said Usagi.
"Glad to be back," said Ranma, "A-And, uh… with you again too."
'My bunny,' thought Ranma unconsciously, 'I'm never going to leave you alone again.'
