9. Article IV - Galactic Republic Military

Article IV

Section I

The Military of the Galactic Republic shall be divided into three branches: the Armed Forces, Naval Forces, and Special Forces. Below the Supreme Chancellor, the Armed Forces shall be directed by the High General of Armed Forces; the Naval Forces shall be directed by the High Admiral; the Special Forces shall be directed by the Special Forces Secretary.

Each member of the Military of the Galactic Republic shall be loyal to this Galactic Constitution, to uphold the rule of law, preserve stability and peace among member star systems, and serve and protect the citizens of the Galactic Republic.

The branches of the military and subsidiary departments and agencies shall be fully independent from any one branch of the Government of the Galactic Republic. No member of government in public service, elected or unelected, shall be eligible to serve any position in the military of the Galactic Republic whilst simultaneously holding said government office.

All member star systems shall contribute for continued and expanded peace among non-member star systems, and shall consult one another when the political, economic, territorial or other integrity of their Republic legitimacy is threatened.

Section II

The military of the Galactic Republic shall not occupy or seize private property on any member star system.

The military shall serve at the behest of the Supreme Chancellor with the advice and consent of the Galactic Senate.

The facilitation of military movement, financial management, and other modes of function shall be delegated to the Department of Galactic Defense, to be directed by the Secretary of Galactic Defense. The Secretary of Galactic Defense is to be appointed by the Senate with a simple majority vote.

Section III

Member star systems may maintain current standing militaries upon joining the Galactic Republic and act independently with respect to direction and procedure by the Department of Galactic Defense of the Galactic Republic.

Member star system militaries may not function in any form of contradiction or against the Department of Galactic Defense of the Galactic Republic.

Member star system militaries may not engage in hostile activities against one another or shall face immediate expulsion from the Galactic Republic.

All military forces underneath the banner of the Galactic Republic shall be sworn to uphold this Galactic Constitution, to preserve stability, maintain peace among member star systems, and serve and protect all citizens of the Galactic Republic.

Section IV

An attack on any member star system or star sector is an attack on the Government of the Galactic Republic, and if such an attack occurs, member star systems shall be obligated to assist in economic, political, or military efforts to restore peace in the selected region and/or location under threat.
