Chapter 2
Part 2 - Hecate and Dimity
Hecate headed to the potions lab and nearly died of shock as the lab was not how it should be. The room still had the girls seated in a slight horseshoe shape each adorned with a cauldron and the perimeter had many ingredients adorning the walls. The problem was that the lab looked like Josephs technicoloured dream coat. What has happened to my poor lab. Why is it so colourful and not a speck of black anywhere, I am literally in a nightmare. Hecate was actually struggling to see she wasn't used to seeing so many bright colours and her eyes were struggling with the brightness.
Dimity wasn't teaching until the afternoon; she made her way to the potion's lab, and she was rather shocked. This isn't Hecate's lab, looks like someone exploded a rainbow. She looked at Hecate's disgusted look and noticed she was struggling with the brightness.
"Do you want anything for your eyes?"
"They will adjust soon enough, Thank you though".
"Hecate, your desk is there" Dimity stated as Hecate was about to walk into it.
"It should be at the front, where I don't walk into it" Hecate stated as she moved the desk to its rightful place. She looked at Dimity "Where the hell are we?".
Dimity had no idea, the school seemed different, and she didn't like it one bit.
"Can't believe you're wearing lilac".
"I can't believe the students hate you, do you reckon we could go on strike?"
"I am debating it, I have never had a student state I am harsh".
"That's my thing that, makes me feel good, knowing I annoy them".
Both women stood there laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation.
"What are you getting them to brew?"
"I have no idea" Hecate stated as she went over to her desk and opened her top draw. "My lesson plan isn't here, it's always here, I definitely don't know what I am teaching". She looked in the other two draws and couldn't see anything that states what they are doing or have done so far this year. "There is literally nothing to go on, this isn't right, where are we?".
"Definitely Cackle's, that's all I know".
Dimity left to go to her room. Hecate's class had just started, and she had her class naming different ingredients to see if the class knew what some of them were, it was the simplest type of lesson she could come up with on the spot. The class was rather good yet Hecate being Hecate was able to nit pick and see their faults. Hecate had been her usual self, harsh.
"You have changed, what have we done? Up until this morning you were nice" a brunette student asked.
"Your knowledge on ingredients needs work it is not to standard, Your, homework will consist of you of you going into detail on certain ingredients which I will give you, all. five. Must. Be. In. detail. Do I make myself clear?" The entire class nodded. "I want you to explain, the properties of each ingredient, where they are found, what potions they are used in and what potions not to use them in.
Hecate had flicked her wrist and up in the air was the student's names with the five ingredients next to them.
"Tell me she's joking; she can't be serious?" a ginger haired student stated.
"When do you want this handed in?" the ginger haired twin asked.
"End of the week".
The students were stunned, it was a lot of work and they only had three days to do it in as well as the other homework they had.
Dimity's first class that afternoon was shocked to find Miss Drill was rather pleasant, she had complimented many of them and gave them hints and helped them with their grip.
"Miss?"
"Yes Chloe".
"Are you feeling, OK?"
"I am feeling fine, thank you, are you?" Dimity smiled as she always did when she threw a question back when it wasn't needed. Chloe had nodded whilst looking at her teacher in confusion as had the rest of the class. "Everybody touchdown". She looked at the classes faces they clearly had no idea what touchdown meant. "Touch down means come down and dismount". The class did as they were told.
"OK, I am just as confused as you are, now, I am usually the same as I have been today, why do you all look at me with fear?" she queried.
No-one dared speak, they thought it was a trick question, yet Dimity was being genuine.
"I won't bite, I swear" Dimity held her hands up as if to surrender.
"It's just your normally really harsh, no one can do anything right, some refuse to turn up to class and your voice is never this soft and light, it's usually like a whiplash" Katie stated, she was a blonde dwarf. You usually go on my birth defect and how it's hilarious to you.
"It's almost like our prayers have been answered, we don't know what you have done with her, but please don't bring her back" Chloe said quietly yet everyone heard and they nodded.
"What's Miss Hardbroom normally like to you lot?"
"She's normally really nice, but we get the feeling she's slightly to nice and she has a thing with pastel colours, its quite a distraction in the lab".
"What if I told you the Miss Hardbroom that woke up this morning hates pastel and is rather harsh but fair. She wants the best for her students. She's like the other version of me you were talking about yet toned down". Dimity explained.
"Where did you two come from?".
"We would like to know where we are, in order to answer that question" Dimity responded. "Might I add, no-one's flying was bad today, you were all in control and I would just like to see you all breathe a bit more, I am not used to having students that don't feel that they can breathe in my class".
That evening Hecate met Dimity in the library, hoping they could find something that would explain what was going on. The library as it turned out was useless. "How do we have a school of magic and not one sentence on this kind of thing. How did your classes go?" Hecate asked Dimity.
"Rather well, considering that apparently I am normally worse than you are, I gave the students quite a shock".
"Worse than me? That isn't even being strict that's just evil".
"Joy" Miss Gullet's could be heard in the doorway. Hecate's eyes narrowed. She turned to face Gullet.
"It's. Hecate. Not. Joy" she stated with impatience.
"I am not playing your games on this one, since when do hang around with her" Miss Gullet stated rather dryly as she gestured with her head to Dimity.
"We aren't playing games, something is going on and we are going to fix it, if you don't mind, I am rather busy" Hecate's eyes had flashed at Gullets hatred of Dimity. Hecate and Dimity were best friends and have been for years, yes, they were very different, however they understood each other.
"Since when do you speak to me like that, what did I do?" Miss Gullet asked in a hurt tone.
"We have never gotten along unless we have had to" Hecate stated like Gullet was being thick.
"We have been going out for the past three years, try again" Miss Drills voice was getting harsh.
Then it clicked.
"Dimity" Hecate looked at Dimity quickly who looked at her back. "Are we on the same page?"
In unison they both stated the exact same thing "Alternate Universe".
"How the hell do we get back?" Dimity asked quietly.
"I don't know" Hecate replied in a scared tone.
"You two can't be serious?" Miss Gullet asked.
"Put it this way, Joy, I take it likes pastel colours and rainbows as well being super nice, wake up call that isn't me. Joy, I take it is the one who you have been in a relationship with hence the pictures on her desk in her room. I am not in a relationship, haven't been in a very long time, I am not Joy, and we don't get along at all".
Miss Gullet looked at Dimity.
"Your Dimity, is nasty almost evil isn't she, hates everyone. The students are scared of her, some refuse to turn up to class, bats, knows why she's teaching. I am generally an approachable one, I like my students to feel safe in my presence. The students I teach can come to me when they feel there is no-one else, they can turn to".
The seriousness of the situation had sunk in. "Let's get you Joy back, and us home" Hecate stated.
Chapter 2
Part 2 – Joy and Dimity
Joy walked into the potions lab and didn't recognise it, she stood there for a good ten minutes, staring in stunned silence at the lab, it was very witchy and surprisingly she liked it. The room had dimmed light to it, yet everything was still see able, she walked around the lab and noticed an array of potions lining the walls and the different styles of the vials and potion jars, she had never liked the subject as much ass someone who strategically put the vials with potions. The more lethal the potion the smaller the vial. She also noticed the cauldrons on the desks and had a look, they all contained the vanishing potion each had a transparent covering over them, each one brewed correctly. She walked around the desk and opened the draws and noticed a binder, she opened the binder and to her amazement was a load of lesson plans, each one well written out, it even had the names of the students who would likely brew it correctly and those that were least likely to do so. She flicked through to today's date and found she had fourth years first, and they were looking at the binding potion. I really need to start doing lesson plans.
As her first class walked in she noticed they looked rather confused still with her plait.
"Take your seats and we will see if everyone is here" Joy said. She watched as the students took their seats and then took a good look around. I don't know any of these students, what is going on?
"OK so today we are looking at the binding potion, does anyone want to take a guess at what it might be used for?"
A blonde student raised her hand "A rope as in binding someone for emergencies?"
"Very good anyone else?"
"Tongue tie to stop someone speaking?" A nervous student asked.
"If diluted, yes".
The class was beyond nervous, Miss Hardbroom was acting very strange, she had even been helping the students in a manner very different to normal she would explain where they are going wrong instead of being silent and moving their hands for them if needed. They had noticed that their teacher was smiling a lot and even laughed a few times.
The bell rang to signal the end of class.
"OK, everyone, there is no homework today, you all did really well".
Dimity stood in front of her first class was rather taken aback, she didn't know these students, it was strange. This wasn't right and Dimity was getting slightly confused and she hated being confused.
"Mount your brooms, up in the air and we shall see what your standard of flying is today" she seethed.
The students looked shocked at the bluntness of Miss Drill and the tone of voice she used. They also didn't like her facial expression it looked like someone was going to die.
It took a matter 0.02 seconds to start screaming at her students nothing they did was good enough; the students were getting frustrated and felt useless.
"Not like that, lean forward, who has been teaching you lot, a goat?" Dimity shouted.
One of the students only got ten minutes into the session and ended up flying of as she couldn't take it, unfortunately for Dimity this student was a sixth year and the head girl, she flew straight to Miss Cackle's window and knocked three times. Miss Cackle opened her window within seconds, looking very confused. She noticed her head girl looked really stressed.
"What is going on Alexis?"
"That is what the class would like to know".
"Come in and we will watch the lesson and see what's going on".
Alexis flew through the headmistress's office window and dismounted.
"I don't like to intrude or make a fuss but what has happened to Miss Drill?"
"Even we, meaning the faculty and I, are just as confused as you. We have a theory however proving it is going to be very difficult".
Miss Cackle and Alexis walked to the green where flying was taking place and Miss Cackle was mortified at the way the students were being spoken to.
"Miss Drill, my office now" Miss Cackle seethed. "Everyone else come down and dismount please, class is over" she made sure to speak to the students nicely and with a gentle knowing smile.
The class watched as the teachers walked to miss Cackles office.
"What just happened, that isn't Miss Drill, she might look like her but that isn't her?".
"Has she got an evil twin?".
"She was ridiculously harsh".
"Do you reckon someone had stupidly used a personality changing potion on her?"
The class was full of questions.
"Tory are you ok?" Alexis asked one of her classmates who looked on the brink of tears.
"Ye I'm fine" Tory replied though she wasn't, she wanted to look like her teacher hadn't bothered her.
