Eight days later...

It was Saturday and Steve and Catherine were having breakfast on the second floor balcony while enjoying the sun and the beautiful view of the sea. "Why did you wake me up so early, Dad?" Caroline complained as she lay down on a sun lounger that Catherine had asked him to put there.

"To have breakfast with your family. You always leave early for school, I thought you'd like that," Steve said as he took a sip of coffee.

On the other lounger, Liz and Lyla were lying down with sunglasses on while Catherine offered them two small bowls of cereal. Catherine laughed when she saw the pose of the two girls.

"You see? Relax like your two sisters," Steve said to Caroline as he pointed at the girls.

Catherine sat down again next to Steve while on the front porch of the house someone was about to ring the doorbell.

"Who could that be at this hour?" Catherine said as she looked at Steve.

"Who's capable of arriving at someone's house at that hour and still sitting down to breakfast?" Steve pretended to be in a bad mood.

Catherine smiled and pretended to think hard, then replied, "Danny."

"Who else could it be?" Steve stood up and kissed her head. "I'll get it." He left, went downstairs and opened the front door.

"Don?" Steve saw his son with a large backpack standing on the porch.

"Hi, Dad. Sorry, did I wake you?" His tone of voice was gentle and surprised Steve.

"No, we're having breakfast upstairs. Steve reached out to take Don's backpack and invited him to breakfast. "Why didn't you call me? I would have picked you up at the airport."

Don said nothing and followed Steve to the upstairs balcony.

"Danny's gone?" Catherine asked when she saw Steve again.

"It wasn't Danny," Steve replied and Catherine saw Don coming a little shyly.

"Good morning, Catherine. "

"Morning, Don." She was surprised that he was there. "Sit down, I'll get you another cup." She went down to the kitchen and only then realized that he was without his wife.

Caroline got up and hugged her brother. "I've missed you, you idiot!"

"I don't know if I missed you," Don replied to tease his sister.

"Don, the doctor operated on my heart," Lyla told her brother. Don crouched down beside the lounger to talk to her. "I know, that's why I came to see you." Don ruffled her hair and she complained.

"Hi," Liz said shyly and Don ruffled her hair too. "Hi," he replied.

Catherine returned carrying two cups. "Make yourself at home, Don. I've brought a cup for your wife too, although I think she'll prefer to have coffee with her father and Lidia."

"She didn't come to the island," Don replied and Steve thought his countenance was sad.

We split up."

Steve realized that Don was embarrassed and didn't ask any more questions. "Have your breakfast, we'll talk later."

Don ate breakfast with his family and then reached into his large backpack and pulled out a present for Caroline. "A present for me? Thanks, brother." Caroline smiled and unwrapped the package. "Oh, new makeup! I love it!"

He then took out a package and handed it to Lyla. Liz looked at him expectantly and Catherine felt sad that her daughter was going to be disappointed, but Don reached into his bag once more and pulled out another package. "This one's for you," he said to Liz and the little girl's eyes lit up.

As Lyla quickly opened the package, Liz asked her mother for help. "A beautiful doll," Catherine smiled as she said. "Thank your brother."

Liz approached Don and hugged his feather. "Thanks, brother." Don just smiled and ruffled her hair again.

"I loved the doll too, Don. Thank you," Lyla told him and he just waved his hand in the affirmative.

Steve had thought of that day as a day of rest for the family, so he ordered lunch because he didn't want anyone to cook. After lunch he called Don to sit by the sea with him. They both sat on chairs while the sea breeze blew gently across their faces.

"Do you want to tell me what happened?" Steve asked his son.

Don sighed and stared at the sea for a few seconds. "She betrayed me," he said as he looked at his father.

Steve closed his eyes for a moment. As a father, he didn't want his son to go through that. "Are you sure, son?"

Don confirmed. "Yes, I saw it."

Steve put his hand on Don's shoulder gently. "I'm sorry, Don."

Don just nodded.

"I want you to know that you can always come home."

"I'm sharing a small apartment with a friend from college. I'm going ahead with my goal. But thanks for saying so."

Steve felt very sorry for his son. He knew what it was like to be betrayed and he knew how Don felt.

"I came not only to see Lyla, but I also came to apologize to you." Don couldn't hold back his tears. "I didn't know, but now I know how you felt about my mother. Forgive me, Dad."

Steve stood up and pulled him out of his chair for a hug. "It's going to be okay, son. There's nothing to forgive."

"Of course there is, Dad. I was mean to you."

"You'll be happy. You'll find a girl who really loves you and respects you."

"Just like you found Catherine..." Don said to his father.

"Yes, just like I found Catherine."

Don just nodded. "I need to talk to Lidia and my ex-father-in-law, and I also need to arrange my divorce. Can you help me with that?"

"Of course, son. Of course I can. But are you sure about that?"

Don raised his head and dried his tears. "Yes, I am."
