Chapter Three: Republic's Rejects!
(Notes: I do not own the song! The songs are basically used for cover music in the story. Enjoy!)
Over a week had passed since they had started. It was now a Saturday. Celeste was outside sitting on the ground. Under a tree on a blanket. Korra was laying down next to her. Humming softly as she finished her homework and placed her things back into her bag. Opal and Bolin were out on a date. Haur was spamming Celeste's phone.
"Ugh. I thought he would take the hint." Celeste frowned. It was technically her fault for not replying to his messages.
"Just tell him." Korra asked. Ever since the date, they were dating. Celeste however didn't feel any attraction to him.
"What about you and Mako?" Celeste asked.
"He is dating Asami." Korra sighed and rolled over onto her stomach.
"Wait. Already?! That was fast." Celeste frowned.
"It's okay. I like women instead." Korra spoke. Celeste blushed at this. So, can women like women? "You okay?" Korra raised a brow.
"Yeah. I just. Yeah." Celeste stumbled on her words. Korra rolled again and Celeste laughed lightly at her friend.
"What's wrong?" She asked as Korra groaned dramatically.
"I like someone but they are taken." Korra spoke.
"Oh? Who is it?" Celeste smirked while sitting up a bit.
"Don't judge me but it's a woman." Korra frowned as she sat up.
"I'm not judging you at all. I didn't know liking the same sex was okay. My mom raised me against it but I can't help it. I often find myself staring at some beautiful women." Celeste spoke. She then blushed. Why were the Beifong women so beautiful? Huffing a little before looking away. "Well, who is it?" Celeste asked again as Korra smiled.
"It's Asami." Korra whispered as Celeste gasped.
"I knew! She's really pretty." Celeste smiled. She was totally down for her two friends to get together.
"She's with Mako though! She's happy." Korra frowned and then Celeste frowned.
"Well. I guess all I can say is that; let her be. Be there for her when she needs someone." Celeste spoke. "Hey I forgot my sketchbook in the classroom. I'll meet you all at the diner." Celeste stood up and took her leave.
She was humming softly. It seemed like it was her favorite thing to do now. She made her way to the classroom and peeked inside. There was no one inside. She entered the classroom. She found her book by her seat and smiled. She grabbed it and turned around in time to see something she did not expect. Hearing the door shut as Celeste stood frigid. She could not move from the spot. Her face fell deep red as her mouth was opened slightly. There was her professor Su pushed against the wall. Soft moaning was heard from her as she opened her eyes.
"Shit! Stop!" Su spoke. Celeste was silent as she saw Kuvira turn around. Anger was now filling her face.
"My dear. We should talk." Su spoke as she walked over to Celeste. She reached out to touch her shoulder. Celeste shook her head and stepped back. She dashed out of the classroom. Slamming the door behind her. She made a mad dash down the hallway. Hearing someone shout her name. A hand grabbed her as she was spun around and pushed against the wall.
"Hey baby. I don't like being ignored. Come on now. Give me some sugar." Haur spoke as Celeste grunted.
"Stop. Let me go!" Celeste shouted.
"You are being a selfish brat you know!" Haur snapped as he pinned her against the wall and started pushing his hand up under her shirt.
"Please stop." Celeste whimpered lightly Struggling against him. Next thing she knew, Haur was pulled off her and flung across the hall. Hearing him skid against the floor.
"I believe she said stop!" Professor's Lin's voice came. Celeste had never felt more relieved in her life as of right now.
"This is between me and my girlfriend. Butt out!" Haur shouted as he stood up and fixed his clothes.
"Girlfriend?" Lin asked as she crossed her arms and raised a brow while looking at Celeste.
"No. We're through." Celeste crossed her arms while glaring at him.
"As the chief of police, I am ordering you to stay away from her." Lin snapped as Haur rolled his eyes before storming off.
"Are you alright?" Professor Lin's voice was full of concern. She nodded her head.
"Thank you professor." Celeste spoke lightly.
"Don't mention it." Lin spoke as Celeste began to walk away.
"There you are!" Su's voice came from behind her. Celeste froze in her tracks. "Young lady, I require a word with you." Su demanded. Celeste turned around and saw her other professor looking at her.
"I saw nothing! I heard nothing! I need to go." Celeste started as Lin grabbed her shoulder to stop her. The next thing she knew, Lin had dragged her into an empty classroom.
"What's going on?" Lin snapped with her arms crossed again.
"She saw us, Lin." Su spoke as Lin pinched the nose of her bridge.
"Well, with you two going about it so carelessly, someone was bound to catch you!" Lin snapped. Celeste jumped at the harsh tone.
"She'll tell everyone. She's an Alstair!" Kuvira was glaring at her. Celeste was now red faced again. All eyes were on her. Celeste had gulped.
"I said I saw nothing." She spoke again.
"I don't believe you." Kuvira snapped.
"Well maybe you should learn to trust me." Celeste crossed her arms this time. "Besides, you two are really cute." She added as Su blushed at this. Lin huffed and rolled her eyes. Kuvira however was flustered at this.
"Fine. I trust you. Don't make me regret it!" Kuvira spoke in a harsh tone.
"Sounds like the start of a beautiful friendship." It was Celeste's turn to huff.
"I hope you don't think any less of me or anyone else in this room." Su spoke finally.
"Of course not. You're still one of my favorite professors." Celeste smiled sweetly at Su who smiled back.
"Well, now this is over and done with. Celeste, let me know if he bothers you again." Lin spoke before leaving. Kuvira raised a brow at her.
"Someone bothering you?"
"Like you care?" Celeste raised a brow at her.
"No one is allowed to give you a hard time but me." Kuvira added.
"Awe! You do care!" Celeste teased Kuvira who rolled her eyes.
"I'll call you later." Kuvira spoke to Su before leaving. She was alone with her professor now.
"I appreciate you keeping this quiet." Su spoke as Celeste nodded her head. "So. I am your favorite professor huh?" Su smiled as Celeste returned the smile with a nod.
"Well, I guess that is a good thing that came out of this." Su smiled and pulled Celeste into a hug.
"Well, I uh." Celeste was blushing now. "I gotta go. I told my friends I would meet up with them." Celeste spoke as Su nodded her head.
She had finally left. That was the most awkward situation she had ever been in.
"So. Who was bothering you?" Kuvira's voice made her jump.
"Um. Someone who is an ex now." Celeste spoke.
"So, you had a girlfriend?" Kuvira raised a brow.
"No. Ex boyfriend." Celeste spoke while seeing that Kuvira was walking with her. Seemed like she would be joining.
"Oh. I guess I got the wrong vibe about you." She spoke as Celeste looked at her.
"What do you mean?"
"I thought you liked women." Kuvira shrugged.
"I do." Celeste spoke and she could have sworn she saw Kuvira smirk from the corner of her eyes.
"Like anyone? Professors included." Kuvira asked.
"Um. I had a crush on one but turns out, she's taken." Celeste laughed nervously.
"If you're talking about Su, she's poly. I'm her only girlfriend." Kuvira spoke. Celeste blushed. There was so much going through her head right now! So not only was same sex relationships okay, poly relationships as well?
"It doesn't matter anyways. I should probably go and apologize to Haur. My mother liked him." Celeste sighed. She felt her body pushed against the wall as Kuvira was glaring at her.
"If he lays a hand on you, I will crack his skull and make him wish he never met you." Kuvira warned her.
"I don't understand." Celeste frowned.
"Don't do something you don't like. Besides, I never liked him. Bad vibes. Plus, why not get a girlfriend?" Kuvira asked as she let Celeste go.
"My family is against it." Celeste spoke as they walked down the street towards the diner.
"You know. I think we got off the wrong foot." Kuvira sighed. Celeste raised her brow again at Kuvira.
"You're nothing like I've heard. I thought all Alstairs' were the same."
"Well, you guessed wrong." Celeste chuckled a little.
"Celeste, will you forgive me? I would like to try and be your friend." Kuvira spoke.
"Yeah. I forgive you. I actually really wanted to be your friend." Celeste blushed a little and looked away. Hoping her new friend didn't catch it.
"So, I have an idea. Let's keep the charade up in front of the others." Kuvira smirked as Celeste nodded. It was evil but she liked the idea. Chuckling lightly at the idea.
"Hey you two finally showed up!" Opal spoke with a smile. "You two getting alone?" Opal asked while giving them a confused look.
"As if!" Celeste scoffed and Kuvira rolled her eyes. They sat down opposite of each other at the table. Asami was between Mako and Korra. Celeste could see her friend Korra have a slight blush.
"Hey, there's an open mic tonight in the club! Celeste, you should sing for us!" Bolin piped up.
"No way! Last thing I need is Beifong giving me a hard time." Celeste spoke while crossing her arms. She had ordered a green tea to drink.
"I bet you suck anyways." Kuvira snapped back. Celeste could see that tiny grin that Kuvira had at the corner of her mouth.
"Come on Celeste. Please!" Opal begged as Celeste sighed and nodded her head.
"Yeah!" Bolin fist punched the air. "Oh! We have a match tomorrow! You all should come!" Bolin added. Celeste's eyes went wide as she nodded.
"Yes! I would love to see what this pro-bending is about!" She spoke.
"Can I get you guys anything else?" A wait came up. Celeste had ordered some food finally. She was starving. She ordered a pot of spicy noodles.
"You know that serves a lot of people right?" The waitress asked as Celeste motioned to everyone at the table. "Right. Coming right up!"
"Aww, thank you Celeste!" Opal smiled as Asami kissed Mako's cheek. She could see Korra looking away. Celeste took a sip of her tea as her eyes caught Kuvira's and smirked.
"So. Where is Haur? I thought he was joining?" Mako asked as Celeste spit her tea out to the side.
"He isn't going to be joining us." Celeste spoke softly.
"Why not?" Mako asked with a raised brow. "I was starting to like the guy."
"Let's just say he isn't allowed around Celeste anymore." Kuvira crossed her. They all gasped and some had confused or questioning looks.
"Anyways, let's eat!" Celeste spoke as the food arrived with plates. They ate in silence as Celeste kept drinking her tea and had gotten water. Her mouth was burning but she was loving it!
"Oh. That was good. Thank you, Celeste." Asami spoke softly as everyone nodded.
"No problem. Just don't tease me when I'm singing." Celeste spoke.
"No promises!" Korra teased.
"Korra!" Celeste gasped and nudged Korra before she nudged her friend. They all got up as she paid.
"Come on! I know the best club in the City! Everyone goes there. Even our professors!" Opal piped up while taking Bolin's hand and led the way. Celeste caught Kuvira's eye and smirked before following.
They had arrived at a rather large building. You could hear the music vibrating on the ground. Celeste double checked to make sure she had her I.D on her as they entered. Her eyes started to water at the flashing lights everywhere. Neon colors as well. The dance floor was changing colors as well.
"Holy wow." Celeste spoke as she felt someone nudge her forward. Kuvira walked past her smirking.
"Let's get a table!" Mako shouted over the music. They all nodded as they picked one in the corner. Celeste was busy looking around. Kuvira came back and handed everyone a drink.
"What's this?" Celeste asked while raising a brow.
"Just call it liquid courage." Kuvira smirked as Celeste downed it. Coughing as it stung her throat. Hearing a howl of laughter as Kuvira was laughing at her. Celeste stood up and walked over to the DJ and spoke to him. He nodded at her and held up five fingers. She walked back over and sat back down humming.
"So, what's happening?" Bolin asked as they all were chattering away.
"Alright ladies and gentlemen. We got ourselves a singer tonight!" A man's voice shouted. Celeste had already found herself on the stage. Hearing some cheering as she saw her friends already up front near her. She was glad they were here to support her. She took a deep breath as the music started. So did she.
You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing's gonna hurt you the way that words do
When they settle 'neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you
I just wanna see you
I wanna see you be brave
Everybody's been there, everybody's been stared down
By the enemy
Fallen for the fear and done some disappearing
Bow down to the mighty
But don't run, stop holding your tongue
Maybe there's a way out of the cage where you live
Maybe one of these days you can let the light in
Show me how big your brave is
Celeste was looking around the crowd as she hit the notes perfectly. She loved this song as she sang it. Bringing back memories when she would speak up against her mother and father. She saw some familiar faces in the crowd. She smiled and waved at them. She saw Korra and Opal lip syncing with her. It seemed her friends were really enjoying the music. This made her heart flutter. Looking around again and saw two familiar faces. The Beifong professors. She blushed as Su was smiling at her. Lin had no reaction. At least she didn't have any negative looks going on. Then she saw Lin raise a glass to her before she looked away quickly. Her heart was pounding against her chest. She could feel the music taking control of her again as the words came out smoothly from her throat.
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
Innocence, your history of silence
Won't do you any good
Did you think it would?
Let your words be anything but empty
Why don't you tell them the truth?
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
I just wanna see you (6x)
I wanna see you be brave (3x)
I just wanna see you
I just wanna see youSay what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave
The music had taken over as she had finished. Not knowing how the crowd was going to react. She felt her face red upon her cheeks. Her friends were shouting and cheering her on as the rest of the club.
"My my what a voice! That was beautifully done! Thank you!" The man spoke as he took the mic. Celeste had bowed to the crowd before hoping off towards her friends who were all hugging her now. Leading the way back to the table.
"That was amazing Celeste!" Korra shouted while shaking Celeste from her shoulders.
"Calm down avatar or you're gonna break her." Kuvira spoke. She gave Celeste a nod of approval. She blushed and hid it by taking another drink.
"You guys! We should start a band!" Bolin gasped as Celeste rolled her eyes. "No, think about it! We have a singer already! I could play the drums!" Bolin got all excited. Celeste still wasn't sure about it.
"Fine, only if I get to do the guitar!" Korra smiled.
"No avatar. Unlike you, I actually know how to play it." Kuvira crossed her arms.
"I thought you didn't like Celeste?" Opal asked, raising a brow.
"I don't but I don't want to miss the chance." Kuvira added.
"Fine. I'll play the bass. I'm good at it anyways." Korra shrugged.
"We got our band! Now we need a name!" Bolin spoke while thinking.
"What about The Republic's Rejects?" Opal suggested.
"That's actually not bad, Opal." Kuvira smirked.
"Oh I get it! We are like the city's rejects." Bolin beamed. Celeste facepalm so hard, she was sure it left a mark. They all laughed as Celeste took another drink. It was hitting her now. She got up and went to the dance floor in the middle of the crowd. Kuvira had followed her.
"Wanna dance?" Kuvira smirked. Celeste raised a brow before nodding. It felt weird. Dancing with her rival. It seemed they were taking turns showing off their moves. Kuvira was good. Really good. She was just as good and wanted to prove it. The crowd was so close together, it was hard to tell who was who. She couldn't take her eyes off of Kuvira. The sharp lines of her jaw. Her sharp fern green eyes and that smirk from the curve of her lip. Celeste caught herself staring before looking to the side. Letting the music take over as she closed her eyes and swayed her hips. Looking back at her new friend and blushed. Su was standing right behind her. Getting very handsy. Watching Su slowly move her hands up Kuvira's body as her friend had her eyes closed and her hands above her head, slowly tangling them in their professor's hair. Celeste couldn't help but stare at the event in front of her. Su was kissing Kuvira's neck and it made her blush. Something in her stomach came alive. Clawing at her sides. It felt like a fire was ignited in her stomach. It seemed no one was even noticing this but her! She felt hands on her hips as she quickly turned around. It was Haur. He was smirking at her as he pulled Celeste close. Holding onto her hips tightly as she was squirming.
"Stop! Let me go!" Celeste shouted. It seemed to have caught Kuvira and Su's attention as Kuvira tried to pry Celeste out of his grip. The next thing she knew, cables were shot out of nowhere, wrapped around her waist and then she felt the air knocked out of her as she was pulled away.
Lin had pulled her out of the situation. They were now standing outside in the cool air.
"T..thank you professor." Celeste spoke as her head was spinning.
"Don't mention it." Professor Lin spoke as she nodded at Celeste.
"Hey! What happened?" Korra asked as she found them outside.
"I'm going to have to report harassment. Come by my office tomorrow on campus." Lin spoke before taking her leave as Su followed. Kuvira ran outside and saw.
"What happened?" She asked.
"Haur showed up." Was all Celeste could say as the others came outside to find them.
"I swear! I will break his fingers and make him eat them!" Kuvira growled. Celeste raised a brow at her new friend.
"Sheesh Kuvira. Always so harsh." Opal spoke as she laughed. "Come on. We need to head back to campus and call it a night." The youngest Beifong spoke as they all nodded. Korra had her arm linked with Celeste to make sure nothing else was going to happen. They had made it back to their building. Celeste had given everyone a hug goodnight. Celeste and Korra had finally laid down on their beds.
"I'm moving out." Korra spoke.
"Way to drop the bomb!" Celeste spoke while sitting up.
"I'm sorry. I know it hasn't been long but I wanted to let you know. I hate the dorms. It sucks not being able to get food whenever I want." Korra added.
"That's why you're moving out? Because of food?" Celeste scoffed before laughing.
"Well, also because Mako asked me if I wanted to be his roommate. I said sure. I know Bolin and Opal are living together and Asami is in that mansion. I just wanted to let you know." Korra spoked as Celeste smiled.
"If that is what you want, I support you of course." Celeste smiled as Korra hopped over and hugged her.
"You are an amazing friend Celeste. Really. I'm glad we met." Korra spoke.
"Don't get all mushy on me now!" Celeste chuckled as Korra crawled into her bed and turned off the light. Celeste smiled while curing up in bed. The events returned to her mind from earlier. She had fun. Despite the fact of Haur showing up and then Lin saving her. Again. She blushed at the sight of Lin's eyes invading her mind and then the scene with Kuvira and Su dancing. Maybe she should try out for the dance team after all.
