Seth was pacing in front of Mindy's car. She had made him promise not to get there until a few hours had passed so she would be sure Finn would be gone. He knew the plan and he trusted she had taken all the steps necessary but it still didn't make it any easier. He ran all the memories through his head. The good and the bad ones. He returned to that day two months ago where she had told him about the plan of getting her pregnant.
"You said you needed me to get you something," he said.
"Abortion pills," she said. "They got eyes on me but not you. I need you to get them for me."
"That's your plan?" He asked.
"Think about it, Seth," she said. "I'll lose control once I enter the house. If I take those pills right before, it's out of my hands. The house won't know anything and it won't be able to stop it. At least I hope not."
"It's not a bulletproof plan," he said.
"You got a better idea?" She asked. "Because if I'm not pregnant next month, Braun is gonna rape me until I become pregnant, and they're gonna throw me into that house the same day they see a positive pregnancy test. This is the only way I can be one step ahead. So are you with me or not?"
He took her hands and squeezed them.
"I'm with you all the way," he said.
He didn't know what to expect. He knew hours would pass from she took those pills until things started happening. He was still feeling uneasy seeing how it was closing in on noon and there was still no sign of her. He was determined to wait for days if he had to.
"Come on," he said lowly. "Spit her out, fucking house. She's not yours. Give her back to me."
He heard cars approaching and dove down next to her car to stay invisible. Men jumped out of the cars and ran towards the house.
"Mindy!" Finn screamed. "Where the fuck are you?"
Seth stayed hidden while keeping an eye on the open front door. A few minutes passed and then Finn came out first, dragging Mindy by the arm. She was naked, and dried blood was on her thighs. Her plan had worked. Finn pushed her and she landed on the grass. He turned to his men again and pointed.
"Get back inside!" He ordered. "We need to gravel at their hooves and beg for forgiveness. We caused this. We should have known better. We knew she was putting up more of a fight than any of her ancestors. We need them to stay on our good side or we'll go up in flames. Let's cut a new deal with them to start over with a new bloodline."
They all moved back inside. Seth left his hiding place and ran to Mindy. She seemed far gone despite having her eyes open and being awake. The house had worked fast and it scared him. He picked her up and carried her back to her car. He placed her on the back seat and got into the driver's seat. She had left the keys in the ignition as promised.
"Seth?" She mumbled.
"Oh, thank fuck," he sighed in relief. "I'm right here, Mindy. I'm taking you home."
"What happened?" She asked.
"Your plan worked," he said. "Don't worry. We're leaving. I'm gonna..."
He stopped talking and stared at the house as flames suddenly spread all around it. He heard screams coming from the men inside. He was not staying to watch what might happen next. He turned the key, backed out of the spot, and floored it away from there. He drove back to his place and carried her inside. She had come more to and was now aware what was happening. He helped her to the bathroom and into the shower so he could clean the blood off her.
"Damn it!" He growled.
"I'm okay," she whispered.
"I could have lost you. What we did was insane," he said.
"I'm okay," she tried again.
"And how the fuck did it go up in flames? What the fuck happened in there?" He asked.
"Seth!" She raised her voice.
He looked up at her and relaxed at the sight of her beautiful eyes.
"I'm okay, Seth," she said. "You came for me."
"Of course I came for you. I love you," he said.
"I love you too," she said.
He gently kissed her and then finished cleaning her. He helped her dry and wrapped her in a bath robe. They went into the bedroom so she could lie down on the soft bed. He lied down next to her and turned on the news on the tv. There was footage of the house. The fire had been put out. It hadn't burned down to the ground. Behind the reporter, body bags were being carried out.
"This is Cathy Kelley with the latest news. As you can see behind me, police is currently working with carrying out the bodies. Several men were found murdered in the house. It's a slaughterhouse. Apparently a lot of religious items have been found too. We have chief Roman Reigns with us right now. Anything you can tell the viewers at home?" She asked.
"I'm not sure what's been going on inside that house. There's a lot of symbols and relics we haven't seen before so we need some experts looking at that. My best guess is that we're dealing with a cult who sacrificed humans, although I wonder what human could have done what was done to those men. It doesn't look natural but unfortunately we've seen before just how twisted, cruel and creative some people can be," he said. "That's all I can tell you for now, Cathy. I need to get back to work."
"Thank you," she looked at the camera. "Back to you guys in the studio."
Seth looked at Mindy. For a few seconds they both looked confused and then they started smiling at the same time when it finally sank in.
"They're all dead?" She asked.
"They're all fucking dead!" He laughed. "You're free, babe."
"The demons didn't like that one bit," she said.
"Fuck! I forgot that's what we're dealing with. Do you think they'll come for you?" He asked.
"I doubt it. They allowed me to leave. They would have pulled me apart while I was inside that house if they were angry with me. From what I could get out of that book, they like being challenged. I outplayed them as the first one in that house. They admire that. They got their revenge on those they saw as the real failures," she said.
"Do you remember anything?" He asked.
"Not a thing other than the front door closing," she said. "It's okay, Seth. I don't want to know what was inside that house. I made it out. I'm safe."
He pressed his lips against hers in a kiss. She ran her fingers through his hair and whimpered.
"Careful. I'm still in pain," she said.
"Sorry," he laughed. "I'm just so happy I got you back."
"I promised you I would come back. I don't ever break a promise," she said.
She smiled at him and yawned. He chuckled and placed a kiss on the tip of her nose.
"Sleep," he said.
"Don't leave me," she said.
"I'll be right here when you wake up. And then I'll order whatever you want to eat. I'm gonna take care of you, babe. Now and forever," he said. "That's a promise, and I don't ever break a promise either."
