"I Don't Even Know You"

(Part 2)

A look of shock came across Spencer's face as he laughed nervously. He couldn't believe what he had just heard Trina say. "Trina, what do you mean you don't know me? It's me, Spencer," he said.

"Yes, I know. You're Spencer. You just told me that. But, that's all I know. I've never seen you before in my life, and I'd really like for you to go, right now!" Trina exclaimed, as a hurt and confused Spencer looked at her speechless.

"Um, Spencer, why don't you go and see if TJ has gotten a hold of the neurologist?" Joss requested calmly, in an attempt to keep Trina calm.

"Joss, I'm not just going to..." Spencer snapped, before being cut off by Joss.

"Spencer, Trina and I need to talk and you ... need ... to ... go ... get... TJ, now," Joss looked directly in Spencer's eyes. She wanted him to know that she understood his frustration and that she was on his side.

Spencer took a beat before taking another look at Trina and then Joss, before leaving.

"Joss, what's up with your friend? I mean he's gorgeous and all, but he gave off some weird vibes. He's here with you and he's acting as if he knows me. You know- really knows me," Trina said.

"Trina, you really don't recognize Spencer?" a concerned Joss asked.

"Joss, he's your friend, who you saw me just meet a few minutes ago. Why on earth should I recognize him?" a clearly confused Trina asked.

Joss took a seat by Trina's bedside and gave her best friend a calming smile. But, before she could try and explain things to her, Trina made her own declaration.

"You know Joss, I can tell that something is up with you and your friend, Spencer. And, I really want to know all about it. Just not now, ok? I'm dying to see Cam. Even though we're just starting to explore things between us, I'm really enjoying spending more time alone with him. No offense, Joss," Trina laughed. "So, even though I'm sure you've got a good story for me about your friend, I really want to see Cam now. So, be my bestie, and go get him for me."

Joss couldn't get over how Trina was beaming at the mention of Cam's name. What could it mean? What could she say to her? Luckily, she received a repreive when TJ, followed by an obviously concerned Spencer, entered the room.

"The neurologist is on his way, so before he comes in, I'd like to talk to Trina a little bit more, you two," TJ stated, as Joss and Spencer left.

"I can't believe this, Joss. I mean, what is going on? Trina and I were just in New York, having the time of our lives together, you know? We got as close as we've ever been and...and she told me that she loved me," Spencer was becoming choked up, as he tried to hold back tears. "Can you believe it? That amazing woman said that she loved me. Do you know how long I've wanted to hear that? And now...and now, she doesn't even know me. What am I supposed to do with that, Joss?" Spencer asked tearfully.

Feeling for her friend, Joss gave him an embrace, which seemed to give him permission to let his tears flow. After a few moments, they walked to the chairs nearby and sat in silence. Neither wanted to discuss what they both feared, and they didn't. They both nervously waited, after they saw another doctor go in Trina's room.

After what seemed like hours, both doctors emerged. Spencer and Joss both rushed over to them, anticipating an update.

"Well, how is she? Does she know who I am now, TJ?" an anxious Spencer asked.

"Physically, Miss Robinson is fine. The bump on her head will go down and she'll be able to leave tomorrow. We just always want to keep any head injuries overnight for observation-just as a precaution," the neurologist, Dr. Melvin, stated. Spencer and Joss nodded their understanding.

"Well, all of that sounds great, doctor. But, why does she say that she doesn't know me? She's my girlfriend and we've known each other for over two years now. We've been through a lot, so how could that be the case?" Spencer asked desperately, while a concerned Joss looked on.

Dr. Melvin deferred to TJ for that explanation. "Trina seems to be experiencing a type of post-traumatic, retrograde, transient amnesia."

"Those are a lot of terms, TJ. What do they actually mean?" Spencer asked.

"Simply put, due to the hit on her head, Trina is experiencing signs of amnesia. When I spoke to her, she seemed to think that it was 2020. Not exactly sure of the months, but definitely 2020. For now, and please note that I, we, are emphasizing for now, Trina has no memory of the last three years," TJ replied.

"The last three years? We've known each other for two," a stunned Spencer stated. "So, in her mind, I don't exist. All of the times and memories that we shared mean nothing to her.Imean nothing to her," Spencer said sadly.

Joss, realizing how overcome Spencer was, decided to take over the questioning. "Will her memory return?"

TJ and Dr. Melvin looked at each other, with Dr. Melvin taking the question. "The good thing is that Miss Robinson will likely regain her memory. However, the timing of that return could be days, weeks, or months. There isn't a set timetable. Now, based on our conversation with her, I think that if this Cam she kept going on and on about could visit with her that might be a big help," he replied.
